▲ February 2nd, 2026 Teaching was far from being a foreign concept for Charlie. He had spent a number of years in Romania as an instructor for new dragonologists, helping them get used to the dragons that called the sanctuary there home, and vice-versa. Prepping young witches and wizards for the things they would be dealing with out in the world was slightly different than he had imagined it to be, since dragonology was so hyper-focused, but after a month of teaching classes, he was starting to get a better idea of how it all worked. Obviously there were resounding choruses from the students about wanting to see a live dragon almost every class, now that they knew what he had spent the majority of his life doing. While he understood the interest in the flying reptiles, there was no way Hogwarts (or the Ministry) would ever allow him to bring a dragon onto school grounds without an army of trained dragonkeepers and magizoologists. He knew because he had been on that side of that before, and the bureaucratic aspect of it had been absolutely mind-numbing. For good reason, of course. But he was still going to ask every so often about maybe bringing in an egg that wasn’t due to hatch for a while. In the meantime, he had finally managed to coordinate a field trip of sorts for his sixth and seventh year students to the Magical Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that was in Hogsmeade. They had reached out to him when he first came on as a professor, expressing interest in sharing with his classes what the rehab and healing process was like for certain kinds of magical creatures. Charlie had been overjoyed to learn that the facility wanted to work closely with the school, since that sort of thing hadn’t even been a concept back when he was in school. Waiting for the students that had signed on to attend the trip, which was a lot more than he thought would come, considering it was optional and early in the morning, Charlie led the procession of sleepy students through an even sleepier Hogsmeade village and towards the center. The director had given him an idea of what animals were potentially well enough to view, though the class would have to go in terms because of the small viewing rooms that the researchers and caretakers typically used. The last time he had been here was over the summer, to observe a dragon egg that was thought to be hatching soon. Unfortunately he had come a day early, only to hear that it had popped out the next morning. Charlie relayed all of this information to the class as they walked towards the center. “So, any guesses on what we may be seeing today?” He pointed at the first student that put their hand up… [Even if your students aren't in CoMC, Charlie doesn't know his classes well yet. And he wouldn't care anyways if other students wanted to join in]MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

THE REALITY WAS JIMMIE WASN'T EVEN TAKING NEWT level Care of Magical Creatures. It had been fun when she'd been a few years younger. Especially when she had gone through her 'magizoologist' veterinarian phase. That had been a bit of a hard time, if Jimmie recalled. A lot of innocence broken in the shape of a hand up a Hippogriff's backside and manure under her manicured nails. Nonetheless, the appearance of a relatively new professor was always a talking point. That, and the opportunity to learn off school grounds. Well, Jimmie and her quick-quotes quill were not going to miss that.
Bright as a button, with her floating quill swishing restlessly by her shoulder, Jimmie had practically skipped through Hogsmeade to the reservation. Trailing behind her were the stragglers, the students who looked beaten by the sunrise and shivering in the early morning cold. Jimmie pitied them, grinning madly as she hurried to be near the front, afraid of missing a print-worthy quote. That and large groups tended to make her a little dizzy. Tripping over the cords that tangled them so thoroughly. Especially teenagers.
Professor Weasley was a fairly short man but rugged in a handsome sort of way. Jimmie didn't like to think of herself as the fawning type, but it was so very difficult when the subject in question was utterly fascinating. "Well after that introduction, Professor," Jimmie spoke up confidently, hands clasped behind her back and robes swishing at her ankles. "I'd be sorely disappointed if it wasn't a dragon." She preened with teenage arrogance, the feather of her quick-quill slipping past her head to brush the apple of her flushed cheek.

Brígh hadn't signed up to take COMC this term, but with Charlie Weasley as the new professor, she couldn't help but be curious as to what he would have in store. Maybe he'd even bring dragons with him? Hopefully they would be tamer than that dragon attack on Hogsmeade last year... but no matter. Brígh had a feeling that the rest of her friends would turn up here as well, and Brígh would stand by the claim that she was only checking out these creatures because she had a free period, and not at all because of a certain druid who was an expert in magical creatures.
As she approached the MWRC, Brígh nodded to Jimmie who was already there. She had combed her hair and tucked in her jumper nicely, just in case Aidan was about. Even as Professor Weasley began his lecture with a question, Brígh's eyes swept through the grounds, hoping to spot Aidan or Eli. It had been Eli she'd been searching for when she'd come across the druid, and how lucky she had been then. Brígh hadn't been paying attention to Charlie's question, lost in thought instead about the repercussions of being here without taking this class. It was lucky that Jimmie's hand shot up and she answered the question promptly. Brígh turned her expectant gaze on the professor, hoping that he would confirm they were seeing dragons.

When Toby saw that there was a trip organized for the COMC students to visit the Reserve, he knew he had to go. It had been a couple of weeks since the last time he visited for work, and he knew it wouldn't be a big deal since he didn't have class until 11. He hadn't taken Care of Magical Creatures since last year, since he decided to go the Healer route, but he missed it.
Toby joined the group of students surrounded by Professor Weasley as they trudged along the sleepy village, shoving his hands into his pockets for warmth as he tried to blend in with everyone silently. He wished Lusie were there, but he forgot to mention the event to her at the dinner feast the night before and he was regretting it now. He hoped he'd miraculously see her there. When the question of what creatures would be there was asked, he didn't want to answer since he worked there and already knew what creatures resided at the Reserve. He wasn't sure if it were biased or not, and he wasn't sure if it were impolite since he wasn't technically a student enrolled in his class..
Luckily, Jimmie Blishwick answered first, in her typical Jimmie Blishwick fashion. He nodded his head up and down agreeing to the sentiment, trying not to allow his excitement to boil over at the word 'dragon'. He hoped there would be dragons too, but there were no promises, even if Professor Weasley was a Dragonologist. He wouldn't assume. Okay, maybe a little bit. His hand half raised, excitedly, "Agreed. With all due respect, I pried myself out of bed this morning to see a baby dragon, sir." he told him, meant to be taken as a joke, but he hoped it were true. Toby hesitated, feeling his face flush, "And probably some Fwoopers and Knarls." he answered simply. The geek in him unable to leave the teacher hanging if he knew the answer.

Like Friday wasn’t going to sign up for a field trip. Not a chance in the world was he going to miss a chance to get out of the school and see some place he hadn’t been to yet. So when he heard about the new care for magical creatures had scheduled a field trip to some magical creature reserve he signed up almost immediately. COMC was fun, he liked creatures, especially the magical ones that were, for lack of a better term, interesting. Sure, all animals were cool in their own way. Besides lizards, something about lizards just creeped Friday out to no end. He was cool with snakes and dragons but lizards just gave him goose bumps thinking about.
Sadly he didn’t read till after he signed up just how early the class was. Friday could have always not shown up but he was now set to see this reserve. Even if he lost precious hours of sleep and comfiness from his warm bed. Joining the group of fellow students they marched rather quietly into Hogsmeade and toward the reserve. Friday normally broke up any silence but it was still early. He wasn't exactly as awake as he should have been. As they neared the center the professor asked some students what they thought they might see at the reserve. A few students gave serious answers, creatures they had a good chance of seeing. “I’ll settle for some breakfast at this point.” Friday said jokingly to the student next to him.

▲ There was bound to be a groan of dissatisfaction if there wasn’t a dragon. That was all on him though, talking up the creatures both prior to and just now. At the same time, he really didn’t even know what to expect at the rehab center. As far as he knew, they could have gotten in a dragon egg the night before and hadn’t had the time to relay that information to him yet. Now that would be a surprise! Far unlike the resounding chorus of comments that followed the quip of the Gryffindor girl that first responded to his question. He was almost positive she wasn’t in any of his classes, but he also should have known who the Gryffindors were. That was the very least he could do as an alumni of the house. An older Ravenclaw boy mimicked the girl’s sentiments and added that it was an early start, and that only a baby dragon would do. Whoever their previous professor was clearly hadn’t told them that dragons tended to be more elusive in the morning, and that if there was a baby at the center, it would probably either be asleep or hiding in whatever enclosure they had set up for it. As for Fwoopers and Knarls… “Those are infinitely more possible, I’m afraid,” Charlie responded cheerfully. It wasn’t as if a Fwooper or a Knarl were boring magical creatures by any means, but they were similar enough looking to non-magical counterparts that he could see where there might be some disappointment in only seeing them. Especially this early in the morning. Which was compounded on by a student he did recognize: Friday Weekly. “The center did say they would have something put out, but we should be back in time for a late breakfast. Rest assured, Mr. Weekly.” Though if he had it his way, he would have preferred taking the entire throng of students to the Three Broomsticks for breakfast, on the school’s dime. Unfortunately there were just too many of them to make that possible. Briskly leading the group across town, he arrived at the doors of the center and opened them up, ushering the students inside quickly. The last thing he needed to be doing was standing out in the cold longer than was necessary. “In you go! Don’t want to miss that hypothetical baby dragon, do we?” he teased. “Follow wherever the workers are directing you and no complaints if it’s just a Fwooper.” Personally, he found Fwoopers fascinating. And so did his first year class. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

THERE WAS POWER IN THE APPROVAL OF HER peers. Their ensuing agreement making Jimmie positively smug as she stood near the front, eager to please and be pleased. Brigh clean and smelling like fresh soap. Tobias an expert at CoMC, leaving Jimmie feeling competitive. And then there was the American twang of the Weekly boy as he shouldered the student beside him. She'd met that family in her own way, nose smarting at the thought. She didn't know him particularly but his jesting tone differed from hers, eliciting an exaggerated eye roll.
"Kitchen's back that way, Weekly." She pointed back the way they had come snidely, a slippery smirk on her face when she turned away. It maybe a little uncalled for, but she wasn't about to be upstaged by a rumbling stomach. Jimmie had high expectations for the trip and a stop off for stale bread and reservation coffee didn't appeal to her.
As they were ushered through the doorway, Jimmie got in to a good-natured elbowing match with Brigh for first in. Shoulders jostling as they forced their way through the small gap before the double doors were both opened. Jimmie stumbled through with a triumphant laugh, her floating quill doing a lap around Brigh's red head before it swooped back towards her. She'd shared a dormitory with Brigh for years. And even though the girl had scampered back to the emerald isle for a while, she'd returned as if she'd never left. "If you think you're beating me to a baby dragon," Jimmie tittered daringly. "You've lost your nargles in Ireland."

i'm hardly perfect, i'm barely good just shy of greatness Care of Magical Creatures was not a subject that Addy had decided to pursue after OWLs. And not because she hadn’t excelled in the subject, but one’s schedule could fit only so many courses. Plus, it wasn’t a requirement, necessarily, for the NEWTs that she wanted. Still, there was this field trip that Brígh had been talking about for a few reasons. Apparently, there had been a rumor that Professor Weasley would be taking them to see a dragon—Addy thought that unlikely considering the risks. The second was that this Aidan apparently worked at the location they would be visiting. Both reasons were enough to make Addy roll her eyes. Still, she loyally followed Brígh behind a gaggle of other students acting like she was willing to be there because Addy would never admit out loud that Brígh had pulled the best friend card and cited the ‘betrayal’ of the previous year as a way to get her on this trip.
However, Addy wasn’t the only one. Blishwick seemed to be on this trip, and Addy knew she was also not in this class. However, her hand shot up faster than anybody else’s. Naturally, the rumor had spread, and everybody was inquiring about the possibility of a Dragon. It wasn’t that Addy didn’t want to see a dragon. Why would she pass up such an opportunity if it were? ”Brígh, you don’t actually think they’d let us see a dragon up close?” She was skeptical, and her tone let her friend know. But as they walked through the doors, Addy was pushed aside by Jimmie, elbowing Brígh rather roughly to get through first. Instantly, that competitive flame lit up inside Addy. ”Move Blishwick—don’t you have some dating advice column to write?” Addy stuck her arm in between Jimmie and Brígh and pushed through. It was hardly the most respectible display from any of them (especially Addy), but seeing a dragon was at stake.

Jimmie unceremoniously shoved her aside and Brígh glared at her. "Bite me, Blishwick," she said, but thankfully Addy was there, shoving her dorm mate dutifully back to make space for the two of them. "I bloody well hope so," said Brígh back to her best friend, craning her neck to try and see what they were being shown. She snorted derisively as Addy suggested that Jimmie go write some dating advice columns - but Addy had no room to talk. Besides, the rivalry between the three of them was in good nature. "I don't think it's a fwooper," said Brígh, but she could still see nothing.

Before they were allowed to step inside, Professor Weasley warned them not to be disappointed if there were only Fwoopers at the center. Blimey, he hoped that wasn't the case. Toby stood patiently and watched as the girls shuffled for first in line. When Brigh asked Jimmie about dating columns, he tried to surpass a laugh and failed. He didn't want to get involved, but a small part of him loved to see it. As long as he wasn't involved personally. Toby never did well with confrontation. Fighting made him nervous. New Years Eve he had a scary drunken encounter with some Muggles who wanted to start something with Lusie. It was the one time Toby had to fight for anything and it honestly freaked him out. Plus his hand hurt really bad afterwards. One thing people didn't talk about with the subject of fighting was how bad it hurt the hand to punch a human skull.
Standing with his hands in his hoodie pockets, he found the exchange between the girls quite humorous. He was too tired for that sort of banter so early in the morning. The Eagle turned to Friday and the Professor after the girls stepped inside, "Where's the kitchen again?" Toby asked sarcastically with a chuckle as he stepped inside the familiar building with a yawn.

▲ The chatter of the students after he warned about the potential lack of a dragon was insane. Something about going into non-school buildings always seemed to amplify children’s voices too. He had noticed that with his own kids, who were relatively quiet in their own right (and when they weren’t trying to kill each other), but his gaggle of nieces and nephews had a wide range of volume. The tell-tale screech of Lily’s voice had been heard right before stepping into the building, though he wasn’t sure if that was because she was late and running to catch up, or if she actually had something of importance to say. He’d already taken her for a ride on a dragon once, so she had no complaints here. There was a bit of pushing and shoving as the doors opened and the students piled in. Charlie finally caught his niece’s attention and told her to be quiet for once, which probably meant he wasn’t her favorite anymore. If there was a dragon though, that would change. If not, she’d forget by lunchtime. Speaking with one of the employees, he was told – under hushed whispers and a cupped hand to his ear – that there was indeed a dragon egg currently within the facility, though the viewing room couldn’t hold the entire class. If he wanted to take them in, he could grab a group of ten, and the employees would lead the rest in small groups to other parts of the building and then they would eventually rotate around. That was easy enough. Charlie, decided to leave the dragon as a surprise, picked his ten students: Blishwick, Slater, O’Dalaigh, Watkins, Friday Weekly, a few others that he pointed at because he couldn’t recall their names, and Lily so he could keep an eye on her. As he called their names, he had an employer lead them to the viewing room. Once inside, Charlie could see the egg sitting gently behind the glass. Even though they were separated, he could feel the heat when he got close to the window. He waited to hear the reactions from his students as they filed in. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

CAST IN BRIGH'S STRETCHING SHADOW, ADDY Slater was the bite to Brigh's brash. It was so common place that Jimmie didn't even flinch when she heard her searing voice lift over Brigh's as she muscled her way through the doorway determinedly. "Aw," She drawled sarcastically, used to the typical comments on her father's chosen speciality. "Are you just upset you won't be in it?" She said angelically, her smile sharp and insincere.
Jimmie stuck her tongue out at Brigh as she turned her back, the quill flicking its feather as it seemed to swish with its own attitude. She straightened her robes and watched with rapt attention as Professor Weasley commanded the room and called out names. Jimmie visibly stiffened with triumph as her own was called, flashing a grin at her fellow students as they were ushered inside a room of preternatural quiet. Jimmie's eyes widening as the dragon's egg sat serenely behind the glass. "Oh- wow..." Jimmie froze, her eyes great, round saucers as she stared.
