Even though he never took his eyes off of Ginny, Harry was aware of his children in the room. The three were not talking this well. Who could blame them. He wasn't taking this well. Teddy, standing in the doorway was probably the most calm. But the person who was talking everything in the best? Ginny. She wasn't without her second thoughts, he could tell that by the shaking of her hand in his, but she had always been strong. If memory served him correctly, at 16 she had been down right stubborn. Not much had changed. When Ginny swung her legs over the side of the bed Harry jumped forward, moving to help her, to keep her in the bed, to... He didn't know what to do. It was slowly sinking in. His wife... was gone. But not. It seemed the most cruel punishment. Though for what he didn't know. Take his wife and leave her in plain sight, just out of reach. As she moved to stand up, insisting on meeting the people in the room, Harry wrapped and arm around her waist to help her. He didn't remove it once she was standing. He took a shaky breath, he could do this. "Ginny, these are our children, James, Albus, and Lily." He pointed to each in turn. He waved for them to come closer. His eyes closed as sorrow washed over them. He waved his children over to meet their mother, who until that morning, had been the rock in their lives. It was... unsettling, to say the least, to watch his father go up to their mother and have to explain who the people that stood in front of her were. She had given birth to all of them and now, she knew none of them. It was unreal to hear the words even leave her mouth... that she needed to be introduced. James felt a lump in his throat like he wanted to cry but he knew he had to be the strong, eldest child like he always was. He had to be.
When their father had motioned them to step forward, James glanced at Lily and Albus before he finally did. Perhaps if he stood up first it would help. He was, after all, her first born. Mu -" he stopped himself and corrected, "Ginny, I'm James. Your eldest son." He said, stepping closer to where he had to look down at her now. At seventeen, James now stood taller than his mother even when she was standing. Seeing her in this hospital bed... tore him to pieces.

he couldn't do it. he couldn't make himself walk over to his mother and introduce himself. it was too hard. he knew he wouldn't be able to keep himself together. something would snap and he didn't want that to happen here. not now. he ran his hand through his hair as he felt teddy's hand on his shoulder. normally he would have shrugged it off, shunned the contact and acted like he didn't want it because that's what he did. he wasn't one for showing affection. not for years anyway. he watched them for a moment, saw ginny beckon for james and lily to come closer, her eyes staying on lily the whole time she did. it was petty but that stung a little. just a tiny but then at the moment anything stung. hearing his mother have to be introduced stung, his father having to tell her their names stung. it was all making him feel like someone had a hand around his heart and were digging their fingers into it.
he hears james' words. him introducing himself to their mother and he knew in that instant he couldn't do it. it was set in concrete in his brain that he couldn't engage with his mother right in that moment. he shook his head a little at his father, shifted his gaze to his mother and then shifted his weight and turned toward the window again, his back to his family as he finally shrugged teddy's hand off his shoulder. "go talk to her teddy" he said, his voice low, cool and collected. a far cry from how he was actually feeling inside. he felt sick. sicker than he had ever felt before about turning his back on his mother when she obviously needed them but al in that moment wasn't able to do it. he rested his forehead against the cool glass of the window and closed his eyes, listening to them. they'd think him selfish, they'd think him cold and he knew what they'd say but in that moment he didn't care. maybe he was and maybe he wasn't, his he knew his limits. this might have been one of them.

It broke Harry's heart to introduce his children to their mother. It tore a him apart to know she didn't remember any of them. He sighed as he looked from James, to Lily, then over to Teddy and Albus. Al turned away. He was leaning against the window, not looking. Not coming over. Harry gave Ginny a small smile and removed his hand from her waist and walked over to Albus. He stood next to him. "Albus," he whispered. "come over to you mother. I know it is hard, trust me. I know. But, Albus... it's your mom. She hasn't changed." He said the words, willing himself to believe them. She was the same. Right? Just some memories gone. Harry put his hand on Al's shoulder lightly. Wanting to show him that he was here for him. Harry wasn't going anywhere. Tags: @james @al lily luna potterGinevra Molly Potter@teddy

Ginny held up a hand to Harry.
She was hearing so many names right now. Teddy, Albus, James your eldest son. She didn't want to hear any of it. She didn't know what she wanted. But she knew that she needed a second to breathe, to contemplate what happened to her. She needed to see someone who wouldn't have changed much. Someone who was always there for her, someone who she trusted more than anyone else.
She needed her mum.
"Don't force him, Harry. Let him be," she said, her eyes falling on the one called Albus. Then she turned to James, a small smile on her face, "it's lovely to meet you, James. But I'd really," she turned to the one who was supposedly her brother Ron, "I'd like to see mum please. Just mum," she didn't look at anyone else, not even Harry as the room was cleared while Ron contacted Molly.
And she didn't even cry. She had forgotten how to do that as well, it seemed.
