It was that time of year again. The holidays. Personally, Haymitch wasn't a big fan. Gift giving, cheery faces, joyous gatherings? Not really his thing. However each year he did look forward to his annual Slug Club Christmas Party. That was the one thing about the holidays that he could tolerate. Some of his favorite students gathering around for an evening of intellectual conversation and frivolity? That was Haymitch's thing. He could hardly tolerate many of his coworkers and everyone knew how he felt about most students... So if you managed to snag an invite to this swanky party, it was safe to say you were well liked.
As always, the party took place in the room directly below the Astronomy tower: the astronomy classroom. The party usually lasted a couple of hours and included plenty of appetizers for mingling, a dinner of quite fancy proportions, and classical music to listen to during the festivities for Haymitch wasn't a fan of any other particular genre. It was a black tie event. If one showed up in anything less than formal attire, Haymitch would see to it they were personally asked to leave by he, himself. However Haymitch had high hopes for this year's party. It was a good group of students this year. He was looking forward to mingling with some of them and hearing about their other academic endeavors.
The classroom itself was not really any different than any other day. The desks had disappeared and instead were replaced with a large, round table so that everyone had to sit together and there could be no group forming during the meal. They were all refined adults, after all. The table had a maroon table cloth over it and there were only a few other slight Christmas themed decorations so as to please those that did enjoy the silly holiday. Haymitch was just putting in a new record for the last finishingn touch when he heard the door behind him open and footsteps entered the only slightly decorated room. The party had officially begun!

Andy was rocking on the heels of her feet as she waiting for Jude to come down from the dormitory, his copy of The Chrysalids clasped firmly in her hands. She wore a maroon dress with criss-crossed straps over the back and shoulders and very high, black heels. Her hair was up in a curly, lose bun. She stared up at the staircase, waiting for Jude to come down and feeling her heart beat a thousand times a minute in her chest. She couldn't believe that she had actually invited him to this party and that he had actually agreed to go with her. She was still in awe over the fact that they had even talked at all. She was grateful, now, that they had bumped into each other in Hogsmede a few days ago. She was also silently chastising herself because she hadn't befriended him sooner.
A part of her wished she could communicate with him telepathically, like they did in the book, trying to figure out what was taking him so long. The Lestrange girls were taught two things. One, being on time was technically being late. And two, only be late if you can own it. Either way, Andy was planning on being early to this party. When Jude finally came down the stairs, she tried to look innocent as if she hadn't been so impatiently waiting for him. "Hey," she said softly as he approached her. He looked miserable, emotionally, but incredibly handsome dress wise. The dress was a black tie event, which mean he couldn't just where his t shirt and jeans. "You look great," she complimented.
Phil came down the stairs right behind Jude, looking just as dashing as he always did. No, even more so. Andy let her jaw drop a little at the sight of him, but quickly closed her mouth-hoping no one noticed. "Should we all walk together?" she suggested, sort of in awe that she was in the presence of two guys who looked nothing alike but were both equally handsome in her eyes. "And Phil-Erh-do we need to pick up your date somewhere or..." she wasn't sure if he even had one, so she just railed off into awkwardness.
- - -
Soon, the three where arriving in the Astronomy classroom where a large round table was set up in the center. There were minor Christmas decorations around, which made Andys stomach lurch a little. It reminded her of how she was going to spend the Holidays with the Longbottoms and maybe even have an actual Christmas. The thought was so foreign to her that it almost made her sick, even though she was extremely happy about it.
She linked her arm through Judes, that's what dates did, right? and led him over to the large table. She was sure that he wouldn't care where they sat so she picked a spot for them. "Okay, just try to smile," she joked at Jude as she took a seat. She then turned around and nodded to the seat next to her, looking at Phil. "Come sit with us?" she offered. Phil was close friends with both Andy and Jude, so it made sense that they would sit together.
Tonight was going to be a long night. But, at least she'd kept her promise to Jude and they could talk about the book together.

He was wearing a suit. He was wearing a bloody suit. And the embittered Gryffindor was none to happy about it. Jude couldn't quite wrap his head around what he was doing and more importantly why he had agreed to attending such a ridiculous event. He wasn't just merely attending on some random invitation either. He was Andormeda Lestrange's date, as established in exchange for the book he lent her. Which was perhaps the only reason he forced himself down the stairs, well, apart from the fact that Phil was right behind him, not giving him much opportunity to stalk back up the stares and hole himself in their dorm. He had half the mind to glare over his shoulder at the blonde for his role in the matter, but he didn't see the purpose at this point. Though how his overly bothersome friend managed to get him into suit was entirely beyond his scope of comprehension. All he knew was that one minute he was arguing with him, refusing to wear it and the next he was putting it on in front of the mirror by his bedside, sneering at his reflection as he pulled the dark suit jacket over his shoulders.
He desperately wanted to blame Phil for it all, but knew if it wasn't for his own stupid idea to lend Andromeda The Chrysalids he wouldn't be in the situation he was. His irritation didn't stem from her necessarily either. Jude had thought about it, about his latest interaction with her and wasn't entirely sure what he felt about her. She was annoying, but there was something about her that Jude admired in his own way. Sighing to himself, he balled his fingers into fists, driving his train of thought away. As he did so, He caught sight of his date. Jude could never really understand how women could change their everyday appearances in a way that made them radiate when they wanted to. His eyes narrowed in on her as she eagerly awaited their descent. She was an attractive girl to begin with, so it didn't really surprise Jude for her to look so stunning, but he didn't expect his eyes to linger for so long.
The tension in his brow eased off slightly, though it helped is case very little as he grumbled out a hello to his date. Caught in his own world, he didn't really pay much attention to what Andy was saying to Phil, impatiently waiting to get the night over and done with. He lingered quietly at the girl's side until they were ready to go.
---
The Astronomy classroom was decorated for Christmas, but that was admittedly the last thing he noticed about the room. The first people the amount of people there. From what he understood the memberlist for the club was fairly limited, but it seemed that nearly all of its members had dates hanging off their arms and conversing, or in the case of a couple in the corner of the room; snogging their faces off. He rolled his eyes as Andy, her own arms linked in his, lead him toward the table. "Remind me why I thought it was a good idea to agree to this?" He muttered under his breath.
As they reached the table, he found his eyes on his own date as she spoke to him. "In case you haven't noticed, smiling is not exactly my forte," he replied bitterly, taking his seat. She was probably joking but it was a common jab made at his attitude and he wasn't at all inclined to pretend it didn't annoy him. "Especially since I was forced into wearing this stupid suit. Which by the way, will probably have me sweating buckets by the end of the night," he fumed, tugging at the shelves. The room was already room, thanks to the amount of bodies in the room and the constricting fabric didn't help his cause any. He unbuttoned the jacket and tugged at the stupid tie. "You're lucky Phil was so insistent." He added, glaring up at the blonde, as Andy invited him to sit with them. He was actually kind of grateful that she did, simply because Phil was the least annoying person in the room, but that didn't lighten the intensity of his glare any.

so. to put it simply, phil had been invited to take part in the prestigious event of the slug club party. he had been deemed worthy enough...at first phil was surprised, because he imagined that the slug club was more for the folks who were quiet, geeky bookworms like his sister. apparently, he just needed good grades and a solid passion for his feature goals. he definitely did get good grades, for he had his father's intelligence (would a man who wasn't intelligent be a professor?), and, like his father, he had a thing for herbology. he definitely loved the subject and aspired to become a herbologist, so if anyone ever knew how they were going to shape their future, it was philip longbottom.
he did see the sense in him getting an invitation, and he was mighty proud. phil didn't have to worry about appearing professional. he knew how to dress up for the occasion. his parents had made sure to that, and there were many times when he had to dress fancily for events that called for formal apparel. that was, like, the easiest part of it all. what was more important was conducting himself in a refined and sophisticated manner. or, in other words, not doing anything immature. but that was probably easy enough for phil as well, as being around with his father had given him a good view of how he should act in an official event. he was also calm and introverted enough not to do anything boisterous or wild that would be frowned upon. he was a little nervous, too, for he'd never done something like this on his own, and that helped to hinder him from doing something outrageous. it would help him to be on edge and conscious of what he was doing and how he was behaving at all times. alas, the biggest challenge was jude! jude watt! phil had stared at jude as if he told phil that he was secretly planning on becoming the minister of magic when the other lad had told him that he'd be attending the slug club party. WHat?! when had jude been interested enough in his magical studies to succeed and thus catch the attention of the leader of the slug club party?! that was absurd! jude was vehemently resentful of the magical world and thus didn't give a damn of how he did in his classes--philip wondered how he could've progressed to year six at all. and if he recently had a change of heart and decided that it was worth being good in, then the time that he decided to make a change to his grades was still too short of a time for him to be deemed worthy enough to join the slug club.
but then jude had explained that andy had invited him to go with her as her date. well..that was no less surprising to phil, as he hadn't pegged jude and andy as the sort to get along well. knowing them it was easy for them to clash. when did they ever start talking anyway? and what strange event caused them to form a friendship? it didn't help that jude was too grouchy to give any indication of fondness for andy...he sounded more annoyed than flattered, therefore leaving phil in the dark about their relationship. this was so confusing. but whatever the case, they were both his friends and he hoped all went well for them in the party, even if jude was giving no indication of being compliant whatsoever. god knew how andy was able to get him to go with her.
obviously phil was concerned with what jude was going to wear. he was incredulous that it had been a difficult task to convince jude to wear a suit. how on this earth did he expect to attend the slug club dressed anything but formal? phil did not want him to get kicked out. even if jude didn't seem excited about the party, then at least phil wanted jude to look proper for andy's sake. if he was the date of her choice, then phil would help her make him presentable. truth be told phil had it in mind to ask andy to go with him. he didn't know a whole bunch of girls he was too shy to ask someone he didn't know well. but if andy was already taken, that was okay. phil could just go by himself. he didn't need a date anyways.
usually phil was content to let jude do whatever he wanted and never tried to make him do anything against his will. phil was anything but overbearing, especially to wayward people. but phil could only think about andy having the date she wanted and jude getting potentially asked to leave because he was dressed improperly for the event, and that gave him the power to win over jude. he was actually surprised at his persistence and that he had succeeded. he didn't know that he could be so willful. but either way, jude was dressed nicely and, from one man to another, phil acknowledged that jude looked not only presentable, but handsome as well. andy would be impressed.
as for phil, he was ready to go. he was dressed in his suit and his hair was neatly groomed. now that two of them were walking down the stairs, phil thought they were almost safe. almost. knowing that jude was unpredictable, phil wouldn't put it past him to turn around and run back up the stairs, and to the dormitories again. that was why he was walking behind his buddy, and if anything he was ready to manhandle him. it was amazing what being concerned for other people could make him do. he was being unusually autocratic toward jude just so andy could have the date she wanted. he couldn't fathom why she would want jude, but if she had wanted to go with the bloody baron himself phil might have tried to help her.
when they were nearing the bottom of the steps, phil saw andy standing there, waiting for them. for a moment he forgot that jude was there and could only focus on andy. wow, she was definitely a killer in that outfit. that dressed...those high heels. he had to stop himself from whistling, not wanting to make her feel awkward and remembering that she was jude's date. as he came down the final steps, he watched them interact. andy was nice enough, but jude wasn't reciprocating that politeness. phil thought that was a shame, because any guy should be enjoying andy's charm right now. she was just so dazzling and and kind...he couldn't keep his eyes off of her.
he finally made it down the steps behind jude. he smiled brightly at her. "andy...wow, you look amazing," he complimented, blushing slightly. he was so not used to complimenting girls. He noticed that she was holding a book. a book? why did she have one with her? weren't they supposed to be focused on listening and talking more than reading? he merely looked at it curiously, because now was the time to focus on other things. he looked at andy again when she suggested they walk in together and nodded. "i'm game if you are." phil shook his head and chuckled when she asked if they needed to pick up his date somewhere. "no, i'm alone. i didn't bring a date with me."
---
and so thus the three of them entered the room together. well, more like phil was trailing behind andy and jude. he was giving them privacy at the same time that he was taking in his surroundings. the room was decorated slightly in a Christmas theme. phil understood why the decorations were slight; this was supposed to be a party where one focused on professionalism, not about having fun. phil wasn't expecting any fun to come out of this. fun was for when he was back home with his family celebrating the holidays...and it was made all the more exciting because andy and aurora would be there to celebrate it with them. he was really looking forward to having andy around in the house and helping her out more than he let on. it was always fun to have a friend living under the same roof, so his was more of a childish excitement. it was better to see it that way instead of wallowing in his nervousness about any potential awkwardness and tension there may be between the lestrange girls and alice.
as phil followed them to the table, he noticed that there was a couple kissing. he stopped walking for a moment, standing there to stare at them with shock. sure, a lot of the couples here were attractive, but was that even allowed in a professional environment? perhaps they would get warned about it by whoever was in charge. it was none of his business, but he couldn't help but wonder why some people did what they did.
he felt very rude staring at them and so he quickly looked away and continued to follow andy and jude to the table. they were already sitting there, and when phil approached them, he only just caught jude glaring at him and telling andy that she was lucky he had been so insistent. phil rolled his eyes as he pulled back a seat beside jude and sat down on it. "well, i didn't want you to get kicked out for not looking formal enough. i'm still not sure how andy was able to convince you to go, or why she did it in the first place--" at that, he glanced at andy and gave her a look, all in good humor before turning back to judge again. "but, you made the choice to come, and therefore i took action accordingly to make you presentable. i ought to be commended for being so responsible." phil smiled and shrugged. he was joking, for he didn't need people to commend him for anything. their good behavior was enough. "it's not that bad, though. i mean, andy and I are probably the ones who'll have to do most the of socializing and talking. you can just stick with us and do whatever you please."
he looked at andy again, remembering that she had a book with her. "by the way, andy, what's that book you got with you? i didn't know you liked to read in parties," he teased. he looked at both andy and jude now, smiling mischievously. "or are you going to read jude a story to keep his boredom at bay?" well, wasn't he in a playful mood right now. but he just found jude's crankiness to be funny, and while this was a formal occasion, it also was a party of sorts, so he felt at ease to joke around with his friends than how he usually would.

"Remind me why I thought it was a good idea to agree to this?" Andy just rolled her eyes and smiled pleasantly as Jude said this. The book Jude had lent her was comfortably slipped into the purse that was slung over her shoulder, just in case she needed to reference it for conversation later. She smiled at Phil as Jude explained how insistent he was. Andy glared at Phil, a playful glare, as he question why she would invite Jude as her date. She reached over the to gently place her hand on Phils arm, "I commend you, Phil. And thank you," she said before quickly pulling her hand back. It wasn't just a thank you for making Jude wear the suit. It was also a thank you for saying that she looked amazing back in the common room. It was a thank you for coming with them. Having Phil there made her a little less nervous about being on her first real date. She didn't even think about the potential awkwardness that was the three of them spending the entire night together. No, that didn't seem weird at all-but from an outsider prospective it probably looked like Andy had two dates.
As Jude started to unbutton his jacket and loosen the tie a little, Andy found herself staring at him. Even with that angry face, he still looked pretty dang good. And the loosened tie didn't help any, no, it made him look even better. She still rolled her eyes though, "You don't have to wear the jacket the entire time, Jude. And when dinners over you can take off the tie, okay?" she always thought that compromise was a good thing to have in a relationship-erh-friendship-erh-date? She wasn't sure where to put her hands though... so she just placed them both gently in her lap.
When Phil called her out on the book she perked up a little, blushing. "Oh, oh no. Jude recommended the book and I just-" she looked at Jude, "I just wanted to be prepared for the date-I guess," she smiled an awkward flat smile and looked back at Phil. It was really hard to ignore that couple snogging in the corner though. Were they... were they under mistletoe? Well, that's a dangerous thing to have in a room of teenagers. Andy looked away from them and smiled back at the boys.

There seemed to be a trend of people rolling their eyes at him, but in all fairness, Jude couldn't bring himself to care. He was too busy fuming about being dragged to such a loathsome excuse to toss people into a room of academically elite so they could suck face under mistletoe or socialize themselves into conformity. In other words, there was a crowd. One he felt to be particularly uninviting simply because he really just did not care to be there. But alas, the girl he sat beside had a book he wanted and she'd gotten all prettied up for the event. Bailing now would just have her and Phil on his back for the rest of the school year and he wasn't inclined to put up with it. So instead of acknowledging the eye rolls and looks sent between Phil and Andromeda, Jude focused his eyes on the table in front of him, frowning the way he does all the while. He flashed Phil half a sneer as he blathered on about his responsibility to fit him to proper attire and Jude responded with an eye roll of his own while Andy responded with appreciation. He felt as though he were being treated like a temperamental child and truth be told it was a fairly accurate description, though he'd be damned to admit it.
He still wasn't entirely sure himself why Andromeda Lestrange of all people decided it would be a good idea to invite him. It confused him as much as it did Phil. He looked over at the dark haired girl, her eyes bright and void of the tears he saw when she had asked him to accompany her to the dance. He still wasn't sure what it was that had upset her so much that day and he didn't see why it mattered now, but he thought about it anyway. At least for a split second while he struggled against the heat of his clothing. His complaints brought Andromeda's attention to him and she assured him he didn't have to keep wearing the excessive layers of the awful clothing Phil had forced him into as the night went on. He huffed a sigh of relief as he cast Andy an annoyed look. "Thank God..." He mumbled, tugging the tie even looser as he proceeded to shrug off the jacket entirely. "Why in bloody hell did we have to dress up for this anyway? Pretty sure I've seen half of the people in here in their jim jams at least once." If not moreso. They all happened to live in the same bloody castle as it were. Formalities seemed like a joke at that point.
As Phil made further effort to reassure him that he wouldn't have to socialize with said people the stiffness in his shoulders subsided just a little. "Good." He replied to Phil, not at all eager to speak to anyone besides the two other Gryffindors beside him.
With the change of topic redirected to the book Andromeda had brought with her, Jude's attention perked up again. He cast Phil a particularly displeased glare at his jab, snorting at the idea. Before he could form a retaliation however, Andy piped in with her own explanation. Date, was not exactly the word he would have used to describe the event, particularly since Phil had accompanied them as well. Not that he was disturbed by this. If anything having Phil around was probably a good thing. At least he could keep Andy entertained where he didn't feel the need to. Not that he was overly concerned about it. He was however, interested in what she thought about the book. Straightening a bit he looked her in the eye for possibly the first time that evening, "How was it?" He asked, irritation no longer so heavy on his tongue. "Did it reflect the very horrors of muggles your parents fought so hard to drill into your head?" He added with snark, knowing full well that The Chrysalids spoke of humanity, rather than just muggles. It exhibited the potential for human error, for nonsensical judgement and a blindness to believe flawed conventions. Things wizards and muggles alike were prone to.

Abby had a hard enough time trying to convince her twin that she was still a 'maiden', so Theos comment definitely deserved a punch in the ribs. Still, she linked her arm with his as he offered it and looked expectantly at Jo, who in fact ended up rejecting Theos arm which caused Abby to raise an eyebrow at her. What was going through Jo's head right now? Knowing her hopeless romantic of a twin, Jo was probably planning Abby's wedding inside her head. If Jo had her way, Abby would settle down on one guy right now. The thought was laughable.
Soon the three of them were heading back up the stairs and towards the astronomy tower. As they entered the classroom, Abby lifted a hand to ruffle her hair a little more. She surveyed the table and saw a few empty chairs on the far side from where the professor was sitting. "Shall we?" Abby didn't gesture or wait for either of them to respond before leading Theo toward the spot she had chosen.
She had her eye out for James who was supposed to be showing up with his.. Girlfriend? She wasn't sure exactly what James was defining it as but the relationship was enough for James to reject a snogging session in a closet the other day. Abby didn't judge him for committing to someone but that didn't mean she wasn't disappointed that the 'benefits' part of their relationship was over without a warning. Still, James was one of her best friends and she could easily be happy for him! Even if it meant she didn't get to sneak over to his house over winter break and fool around. There was always something riveting about a good snog session knowing you'd be caught any minute by someone's parents.
She hadn't quite spotted him yet but there were a lot of people milling about. She turned to Theo, "So, do you recognize any of these people?"

Theo had been curious about whether Joanna would accept his escort or not, and as it turned out, she had not. However, he wasn’t sure whether it was annoyance at his comment or simply that she expected him to escort Abby alone. Perhaps she was reading more into the relationship than there was. More than one girl had mistaken his physical passion for emotional desire. He never lied to them, but they often made the assumption and then were surprised to discover that he didn’t think the same way they did. As though they could read his mind or something? Nobody could do that.
Though the girl on his arm seemed to have the same mind that he had, at least.
She led him over to her chosen seats (Theo noted that these seats were far from where the Slug Club professor would be sitting). Once they sat down, Theo slouched just a bit and wrapped one arm around Abby’s shoulders, looking around with a detached sort of interest. He would not have pegged the Astonomy Tower as a party location. Too few escape routes in case the party needed to be evacuated quickly. Nobody with the proper level of caution would come to a party with so few exits.
“So, do you recognize any of these people?”
Theo looked around at the milling students. “Not by name, no. I recognize most of the Slytherins and some of the Ravenclaws by face. There’s Drom. Kid she’s sitting with looks kinda like Professor Longbottom, must be his son? Don’t recognize the other boy.” He looked around calmly. Desirae and Elaine were supposed to be here at some point, as were Alsciuakat (one of Theo’s physical interests), Octavia McLaggen (another physical interest), Emrys Nightingale (yet another), and Aurora Lestrange (who had a physique but was less interesting to Theo, as she did not like to use the power she had). “Come to think of it, most of the names I know outside of the Quidditch teams are female. With all the rules preventing dueling, there’s just not much incentive to interact with guys.”

There was always a great advantage to being a dear, precious cousin of one of the smartest people existing in the wizardry world. Holly was lucky to have a cousin in Albus, not only because he was utterly nice to her, but because he was smart enough to get an invitation into the Slug Club Party and therefore invite her to go with him. Holly wasn't ambitious academically and she was a bit childish with only handling dragons as her future career; she could understand why she hadn't been invited and she wasn't ashamed of it. It wasn't her thing, but she was glad that Albus had given her a free ticket nonetheless because she was curious as to how it would go. Not to mention, even if it was professional and less of a party, it still had to do a bit with Christmas, and Christmas celebrations were what she lived for. Holly had donned on a simple red dress that reached a little above her knee and did not have any sleeves; however, also wore a white cardigan. She wasn't into high fashion, and she thought it was suitable for a professional party like this one. Not to mention, she wasn't a direct invite so she would feel inadequate looking all flashy and sparkly. But, she did slip a holly pin to her hair. Her little signature style. The Weasley had entered the room with her cousin. It wasn't heavily decorated, but it still looked nice. She eyed the light Christmas decorations appreciatively. She also scanned the room for signs of her cousin, James, but she didn't see him yet. Oh, James, poor James...she'd felt really bad for him when he had been distraught about their team losing the game. She'd felt no less sour, but she hadn't taken it as badly as he had. But then again she was mostly cheerful. She looked at Albus, smiling but with a somewhat confused expression. "So...what do we do? Sit at the table?" She had a feeling that this wasn't a typical party, if she hadn't felt that before. Tag: Albus Severus Potter and @james because she mentioned him

Joanna Shacklebolt was definitely in a pleasant mood. She had followed her sister and Theodorus Nott to the party, feeling rather happy and cheerful inside even if she did what she could to appear casual. But, seriously, her spirits had soared to many heights when she saw her sister and the princely Slytherin together, and how passionate and witty they were. She liked Abby and Theo more than Abby and James. They were like...the perfect couple. Right out of a fantasy, in her point of view. Forget that this boy was a Slytherin and from a weird family. As long as it was true love, that was all that mattered. They could sort it out. Seeing them together, she refused to stop and think about the implications of stupid trifles like house and family name.
For someone who prided herself upon her cleverness and irony, she was harboring such childish thoughts. She did know that there was the possibility that this was just a passing fling that would be no more in a week or so--or even tomorrow. But she refused to believe that. That was pretty stupid of her, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to believe that her sister Abby finally found love that she was content with and would stop feeling so wild and bitter. Abby deserved this happiness out of all the pain that was caused to her by their father's death. Joanna also needed to believe that the world could be as sweet as sugar sometimes after having lost her father like that and learned of Aurora's abuse.
Jo had assumed that Theodore was simply being a polite gentleman when he offered his arm, which she did appreciate to no vast ends--it proved that this was a civil gent who Abby was getting involved with--but she rejected, wanting Abby to have Theo all to herself. She followed silently behind them, careful to give them space and privacy however she could. And then when they entered the room, she let the couple go to their own seats at the table. They should be spending as much time as they could with themselves, enjoying the company of one another. Besides, Jo wasn't here to dally around. This was a professional event in which she needed to show off her Shacklebolt intelligence and dignity on her own.
She did look around to see if she could spot on Ethan and Aurora, but apparently they hadn't arrived yet. She did expect to see Ethan with Cordie and Aurora with James...now why was it that her friends were paired up and she wasn't yet? For someone who fantasized about her sister meeting Prince Charming, you'd have thought that she would have fallen head over heels in love with some bloke already. But that wasn't the case. It wasn't that she was overly picky or not attracted to the menfolk around her...it just so happened that she hadn't found the "right one" yet. The workings of relationships were strange complex, and almost unexplainable, and she figured that she'd find the one in her own time. It just happened spontaneously in many ways...she did hope, though, that the way she would stumble upon her (handsome) soul-mate would not be too outlandish, though. She'd like a bit of a romantic flare to it.
Anyways, she made her way to one of he seats at the table, pulled it back, and sat down with her back straight, trying to look proper and impassive. But all the while she couldn't help but eye Abby and Theo from the corner of her eye, and the faintest of smiles appeared on her lips, because so far she liked what she saw from them. They were just talking normally, but talking normally was what couples did. They bonded that way. Not every romantic interaction had to be melodramatic. In fact, there was a cuteness in conversing with familiarity. Jo hated drama, so she thought that was the best expression of good relationship.

Abby didn't expect Jo to sit somewhere else, but her sister apparently wanted some space. OR she wanted to give Theo and Abby some space. Abby shook her head at the thought. Her hopeless romantic of a sister was surely reading into this a lot more than she should be. Abby would have to explain later. She groaned at the thought of having to answer to her sister in that way. Couldn't Jo just see that Abby wasn't about to get serious with anyone? This would make Abbys life a lot easier. But alas, she had to admire her twins unwavering faith in romance. It really was quite impressive and admirable how her sister stuck to her guns so well. She was just as tough as Abigail, but in support of different things a good amount of the time. Abby admired freedom and foolishness while Jo admired commitment and sweetness.
Abby was relieved that she never had to explain anything to Theo so far, and she was sure she never would have to. They were clearly on the same mental path when it came to... well, so far they thought the same about pretty much everything. Granted, it didn't really matter if their opinions differed because the way the thought was the same. So, no matter what was going on, the most likely could guess what the other was thinking. Of course, this was all just guessing off of their previous experiences since he arrived.
Abby was sure that Jo, and others, were probably getting a kick out of the fact that Theos arm was wrapped around her shoulders. It just seemed so natural to her that she didn't even notice that it could be something of interest until she saw that mischievous little smile play across her twins lips. Abbys shoulders shook a little with laughter as she tried not to imagine what Jo was thinking about all of this.
Her attention was on Theo, however, when she asked her question and whilst he answered it. "Yeah, that's Philip Longbottom. He and Andy are actually really close," she chimed in as he recognized Andy and called out Phil. When Theo came to the realization that he had only really conversed with females thus far, Abby rolled her eyes and she laughed out loud. "What ever do you mean? There is plenty of incentive to interact with guys-Oh wait," her smile grew, "there is incentive for me" she chuckled a little again before turning her attention back to the room for a moment.
She was a little curious to find out how many girls he had snogged, and who, in his short time here-but she wasn't going to ask about that. She and James hadn't shared that stuff with each other unless it came up in a random situation with other friends. She wasn't jealous by any means, for her confidence in her own abilities was much higher than caring about how any of the other girls pleased him. No, it wasn't really her business who was snogging who as long as she was getting some of it throughout the week. "I mean, I know some guys that are pretty good duelers. You'll probably get to know them at some point," she shrugged, turning back to face him.

phil grinned at andy when she commended him and thanked him. he thought that she was just participating in the banter, but he didn't mind, as he had been joking himself. "you're welcome," he said gleefully. however, he wasn't as thrilled when it seemed that jude was given the okay by andy to strip. ok, so it wasn't that bad, he was just taking off his jacket and going to be removing his tie. that was normal and not unheard of, but coming from jude it was just a little disheartening. what was so uncomfortable with a suit? phil didn't see how it was that bad. why couldn't he try something new without compromising?
he heaved a sigh, but nodded in agreement with andy's words. "yup, you can do that," he said simply, although frowning at the way he loosened his tie. "well, this is supposed to be a professional event, so they expect us to dress formally. they almost expect us to behave like adults instead of teens." he shrugged. that was the best explanation he could think of, because it was the truth, whether jude agreed with it or not. phil actually liked the notion of it, but that was because he emulated a lot from his very professional father.
truth be told phil wasn't entirely sure if jude would be required to talk or not. he didn't even know what was going to happen! that made him nervous, because he accidentally assured his friend that he wouldn't have to do something that he didn't want to do when he actually didn't know whether that was the case or not. because, the moment when the aguillard dude would look at jude and pose a question for him...oh no, phil would feel so bad. but he was too nervous to bring that up to jude, because he didn't want to sour jude's mood as is. so he bit his lip and just stared at the table, wondering what he should say.
his attention was diverted from that when they talked about the book. "so...the two of you are just going to be talking about a book during the whole entire date?" he asked with raised eyebrows. that was funny, although phil didn't imagine andy and jude to have any romantic motives for the date. they were both the sort to be bookworms, anyway, although andy was probably a reader because she liked reading and jude just wanted to spend time to himself. but this made phil wonder if andy only took jude with her for the sake of talking about a book, although he wasn't sure why it had to be in the slug club dinner party in particular. but, that was between them. and it was rather fitting to be discussing about a book in an academic event like this.
phil had no idea what the book was about, though, and jude's comment about it confused him even more. "Wait, what? what's the book about?" he asked quizzically, looking at jude, but he did have a hint that it had to do with muggle stuff.

Andy couldn't help but smile and shake her head a little as Jude exclaimed his reasoning for believing that it was pointless for them to be dressing up. As he shrugged off his jacket, Andy reached over to help him drape it over the back of his chair. She left one arm there, on the back of the chair. "No matter if you've seen them in their jim jams, Jude. It's about looking professional and nice. Which you do, so stop complaining," Andys tone wasn't one of annoyance in any way at this moment. No, shew as being surprisingly patient with her date at this point. Andy didn't know it, but her attraction to him looking so nice, and a little ruffled up at the same time, was overcome her impulses to be irritable. "And Phil is right. We're supposed to act like adults. But, no teacher can expect to get a group of good looking teens into one room and not expect a few snog sessions and shenanigans out of it," she chuckled a little with a glance around the people in the room. Yup. Abby Shacklebolt being here with Theo was enough to make enough trouble for a lifet-wait, what?
Andy leaned forward a little and her jaw dropped. Yes, that was Theodorus Nott, the man her sister was supposed to marry. Or rather... was supposed to marry. Andy had heard that he had finally come to Hogwarts, but she hadn't seen him around. She did not expect him to be on Abigail Shacklebolts arm either. She tilted her head to the side for a moment before shaking it off. That was just too weird. She happily turned her attention back to her friends. "No, Phil, we're not only going to talk about the book. But it was kind of part of the bribe to get Jude in here and in that suit," Andy smiled a sneaky little smile at Jude before addressing his question.
"Actually, those people didn't seem that different from wizards in that aspect. I mean, humans can make mistakes and technically we're humans too so I don't really think muggle fiction and wizard fiction is all that different," she started, "I thought it was a beautiful book, to be honest. It really fought hard to underline the fact that no one is... perfect. Or more important," she sat up a little straighter as she spoke, ignoring Judes dish at her parents. Not that she disagreed, but she really had come to discuss the book in particular, not necessarily her parents banning muggle books. When Phil asked what it was about, Andy turned to Jude as well, she'd let him take this one.

There was admittedly very little that could put Albus in high spirits since the attack on his mother. For the most part he could get by and pretend things were normal and over the past week he had found ways to distract himself from that somewhat frantic, but equally nullified sadness. His wake up call from his injury at the game made him realize he couldn't give up hope and ignore everything else going on in his life as much as he wanted to do just that. And as much as he didn't want to go to the Slug Club Christmas Party he had already promised Holly he would take her. She would have understood if he decided not to go, but that would have made him feel worse. She'd been so excited, ever the Christmas enthusiast that she was. Besides, it sounded better than sulking in his disastrous part of the dorm, beneath piles of crumpled paper, chocolate frog cartons and clothing. Or alternatively burrowing himself inside the library in some futile attempt to figure out how to reverse the damage done to his mother's memory. As much as he desperately wanted to do whatever he could to help the situation.
But Holly was at his side, admiring the decorations as they entered and donned in a slightly more than casual attire. Albus thought she looked lovely even though some of the other females in the room were dressed in far more fanciful clothing. He kept it quaint as well, wearing a set of dress robes over a white buttoned down shirt and black suit pants. He realized as he looked around the room that he'd left the tie in the dorm, having been too distracted by his thoughts on his mother and how proud she had been before losing her memory. He noticed another boy from his year tugging at his with an unhappy look on his face and decided it was for the best. They'd never been particularly comfy anyway. Taking in the decorations for himself now, he looked about the room. It brought warmth to the Tower and with it a flicker of that Christmas nostalgia, well, despite the snogging couple beneath a branch of mistletoe.
His shoulders loosened as he looked over at his elder cousin, her question breaking through his thoughts. Albus sent her a small smile of his own and started leading her to the table. "I suppose so. He said as he looked around. He spotted Phil next to the unhappy Gryffindor and Andromeda Lestrange and hesitated before moving towards them. He genuinely liked Phil and as far as he was concerned, he was family even if they weren't related by blood, but whether Phil felt that way remained to be seen. They got along well enough but he sometimes felt as though he made him uncomfortable. He was also wary of Andromeda, though she seemed to have changed over the years and was far more accepting of muggleborns than he remembered her to be. He smiled as best he could nevertheless as they took their seats on the unoccupied side of Phil. "Hullo Phil," He said kindly, nodding his head at Andromeda in polite acknowledgement before returning his attention to his cousin.
"I wonder if they have any chocolate deserts?" He asked, looking upon the currently sparse dinner table. "Do you suppose I'll be able to sneak some out for Mopsus?" Truthfully he was trying to divert his attention from thinking about his mother but being there made him think of her last letter to him, wherein she spoke of attending a party not unlike this one in her Hogwarts years. Albus frowned slightly at the thought but quickly dismissed it as he noticed Holly's holly pin had come loose. "Cuz, your pin is coming loose." Albus said as he reached to reset the pin in her hair.

Tonight was the night. The Slug Club Dinner Party. All dressed up and looking rather different, Elias was ready for a night of partying and mingling. He heard the event was black tie only and while formalities weren't exact his forte he had decided to play along and throw on one of his suits. It had come as a shock to Elias when the invitation to the humble party landed on his lap. How he had come to be invited to such an event was truly beyond him. He always thought staff around Hogwarts viewed him as an animal. He brought the trouble to places where it was not wanted and Elias already had the notion in his head that he wasn't going. Even when the invitation hit him he still told himself that he wasn't going to attend the celebration. Not because he hated suits and ties - no. Whenever he was given the chance to dress up and look good, Elias took the opportunity with open arms. It was just that Elias wasn't keen on asking anyone to take up arms and join him in an evening of splendid dance and joyus laughter. He wanted to close that book for a while and take a breather from stepping out into the public and indulging himself in the temptations of the world. He had planned on sitting this one out. Maybe take a pencil and paper and just draw whatever came to mind under the starry blanket of the night sky. This evening was reserved for him...that was until Desi asked him to accompany her to the party. He could never say no to a girl, so putting a big fat line through his plans, Elias had agreed to be her date for the night. Now here he was, outside the Ravenclaw Common Room, with a single white rose(enchanted to change colour from red to white), awaiting his date to walk out looking as beautiful as ever.
