Alice knew she couldn't force Aurora to do anything, and if her father hadn't said anything - she would have tried, no doubt. Even if she knew better, that wouldn't have stopped her from acting on her first instinct and doing so. She smiled kind of sheepishly at her father, thankful that he knew her so well. She thought about the probability of she and Aurora agreeing on something... how unlikely that was. Then she thought... there was already one thing they could agree on. And that was James. Alice winced when her father brought up Uncle Carson. "Merlin, please - no thank you," she chuckled at the unbearable thought of having to work under Uncle Carson.
Neville stood and then put Alice down back on the bed and tucked the blankets over her. Suddenly she was feeling so young again. And tired. It was amazing how tired she suddenly felt, just after being tucked in like she used to be by her father. She looked up at her father next to her as she spoke, then she looked down at her feet underneath the blankets. She really needed to be reminded of how she still had a loving and supportive father, especially after all that had gone on. And... after everything, maybe he needed to be reminded of the dame thing. "I love you too, Dad," she said, looking back up at him. "And... despite everything that has happened... everyone still thinks you are a great Headmaster." She spoke slowly. "I still know that... and I am proud of you, too." She finished, smiling up at him.
Alice then stifled a yawn. She nodded at her father. She hadn't spent time with her mother in some time now, and perhaps it would be nice to have some motherly advice. "I... I will," she said after a moment. She smiled up at her father. "Thank you, Dad," she said.

Neville laughed at Alice's response to the idea of working for her uncle.
But her next words were a little more sobering. He'd never wanted to be Headmaster. Really, he'd never wanted to be anything more than the Herbology teacher. But, as so often happened in his life, a space opened up, a space with responsibilities that needed to be filled, and he fought he could not turn it down. Ability equates to responsibility, as Gran always said. If he was capable of doing a job, it was wrong to leave it in the hands of someone even slightly less capable. First, Head of House. Then Deputy Headmaster. And now Headmaster of Hogwarts, sitting in the same chair that Albus Dumbledore himself once occupied. “I'm not sure I agree with your assessment,” he chuckled, “but thank you.”
He could tell that she was beginning to fight sleep, the way she fought down the yawn. He still had things to do tonight, and it would be better for her to fall asleep comfortabe, before she had time to think too much on things. Analyzing everything would wait a night...if she let it. So Neville leaned down over her to kiss her forehead again before standing up, watching Oscar hop up onto her bed to curl up in the warm spot he'd just vacated. “Anytime, Sunflower. Now get some rest. Tomorrow is a brand new day.”
With that, he smiled at her again before slipping out of her room, closing it silently behind him.
