more than a shot in the dark
Often it happened that "normal" nights at Pecunia- were really not normal at all. In fact, they were so messed up they were normal. Seriously, you would not believe the things that happened sometimes at the place- people disappeared, brought guns into the casino (mostly squibs, and muggles who didn't know where they were. The casino office had a stockpile of muggle weapons so large that it was joked they could go take over parliament with them), got into serious wand duels- they had one of those just the other day, it was the most intense thing Merdoc had ever seen, and reminiscent of the wild west movies he had watched as a kid- and just crazy stuff that required that the casino have five bouncers on patrol at any moment in time.
It wasn't often, though, that Merdoc got the chance to do or learn something new about his job. Was he in for a surprise tonight.
Around ten-thirty PM, Merdoc was mixing drinks full-tilt; he had a bunch of customers thirsty from a long round of billiards. Suddenly, he became aware of a hazy white figure approaching: a patronus. (Merdoc often regretted not learning to cast one. Oh well. Perhaps he'd learn someday.) The corporeal form- he couldn't quite make out what it was- asked for a delivery of three daiquiris to room 223 of the hotel.
"Uh... okay." Merdoc, in his year of working here, had never been asked to deliver to the hotel. He wasn't even sure if it was allowed. So he quickly mixed the last four drinks he had to do and went to talk to his manager.
Well, apparently, it was totally fine to take an order from a patronus charm and deliver drinks to hotel rooms. As he went back to the bar and started to whip up some Daiquiri, he seriously thought about it and realized that maybe he should have known. Hadn't part of his training been to learn the layout of the hotel? What honestly surprised him was that he hadn't been asked to do this before now. Merdoc knew that if he was staying in a muggle hotel and wanted some drinks, he would phone right down and have them deliver.
In any case, soon, he had a fancy silver wheeling tray and towel on his arm, and was taking the elevator up to the 200 floor of the hotel section of Pecunia. Room 223 was down to the left a couple of hallways.
Merdoc knocked on the door. "Hello? Bar service." He desperately hoped he had heard the patronus right.
