Cori stood in the entrance of the Great Hall. It was the first day of school since Cori had been back. Her father's attack was in the papers, but he had made sure her being there wasn't broadcasted. She didn't want to come to school and have people running up to her, crowding her to help. Her professors knew, of course, but she still was working out how to tell her fellow students. She thought about finding Carcer, but hesitated. She turned her head in the direction of the Hufflepuff table, out of habit.
Her shoulders tensed as she moved forward, trying to send her walking stick ahead of her as inconspicuously as possible. She took two small steps forward. Two more. A few more. The stick made contact with something in front of her. She moved to it, quickly sitting on the bench, trying to draw as little attention as possible.
Everyone was probably staring at her. Horrible pity on their eyes. They were probably running over what questions they would bombard her with. 'A blind witch? Why couldn't saint mungos heal that? Who did it? Did you see their face? Do you need help? Do you want me to feed you that apple?' Coris hand curled into a fist.
Irrational, of course, but teenagers rarely thought rationally, especially not Coriander Pepsi. Winterfield. Whatever.

@corianderpepsi biting into her toast, archer at at the hufflepuff table in the great hall. it was still a little early for a lot of students to be here and stuffing their faces with whatever was in their reach and she reveled in the quiet. she didn't mind noise. honestly she didn't. she'd grown up with all brothers so she was used to it more than anything. but today the quiet was good. she could think about the school work she needed to be doing, the people she hoped to still catch up with after school and a few other things that ran about in her mind. she was so caught up in her thoughts that when something hit her foot she jumped a mile. her heart in her chest she turned her head to see a girl standing there, the white stick in front, that's what had hit her. oh. she didn't say anything, simply shifted her foot and watched the girl sit down. she'd seen her before, her face had been in a news article, but the name escaped her. she was so terrible with names. though the blue on her robes gave way to the fact she was sitting at the table that differed from her house, but they all did it from time to time. so it didn't matter. leaning her arm on the table as she took another ite of toast she turned to the girl and smiled a little, hoping she could hear it on her voice. "morning, you're up and about early" she said, the conversation she hoped would come easily. there was nothing worse than a forced discussion.

"morning, you're up and about early"
Cori didn't jump at that voice. She was prepared for someone to speak to her, so it wasn't a big deal when the girl spoke. "Yeah, couldn't sleep. Do you have an early class or something?" Cori didn't bother to ask who it was, not yet. It was kind of nice that the girl was acting so casual and Cori wanted to keep that up for a little longer. However, she didn't wonder if she already knew this person. She would have felt terrible if she didn't recognize the voice, yet another reason why she didn't ask who it was.
She reached forward but a little sideways, her gloved hand clasping an apple. She brought it back to her, slipping her glove off. The apple instantly became cold in her fingers. It was kind of a nice trick to have, at times. The ice cold skin curse and all.

@corianderpepsi "yeah, couldn't sleep. do you have an early class or something?" archer smiled a little and leaned her arms onto the table in front of her, taking a small break from eating the food that was on her plate. she didn't have an early class. she'd just been awake early that morning and decided that she'd rather eat in peace and quiet than with the usual roar of the great hall. "nope just up early. do you?" she asked shifting a little and moving to take another bite of her breakfast.
she watched as the girl made to grab an apple, watching her almost miss it but making sure not to ask her if she needed help. archer would hate it if something ever happened to her and people thought she couldn't do things for herself. it wouldn't be great to know that people didn't think you could do things on your own. "i'm archer." she said as she kept eating her breakfast, figuring the least she could do was offer up her name.

"No, wish I did," Cori said, "it'd give me a distraction." She was getting melancholy again. She tried to wipe the frown off her face. "Archer, I'm Cori," she hadn't meant this Archer before, she was pretty sure. This would mean she was in a different house and year than Cori. Still, she would have felt terrible if she should have recognized her. Granted, Cori did have one thing on her side. She was never very social in the first place so no one would really expect any different. Except now she had to rely on people...
"So, which Common Room do you call home?" She asked, a round about way of asking which house she was in. However, if the girl was wearing a colored scarf then Cori would have just completely given herself away... Well, no point keeping secrets now. "My apologies, I can't actually see if you have any house colors on." She tried to sounds causal about this fact, but her voice wavered at the end.

@corianderpepsi "So, which Common Room do you call home?" archer smiled and leaned her arms down on the table in front of her. she was proud to be able to tell cori that she was in huufflepuff. there was nothing wrong with her house like some people sometimes tried to make out that there was. people thought they were put into the house because they were laid back and relaxed. though archer had other ideas. she was under the impression that hufflepuff students had all the traits from the other three houses but there was none stronger than the other so they were put into the house of yellow and black. well that wa her theory and she was sticking with it. "My apologies, I can't actually see if you have any house colors on." archer shook her head and her smile grew a little. "well i'm not wearing my house colours so even if you could see .. you couldn't tell. i'm from hufflepuff"

"Aw, cool," Cori said as the girl answered her question. She shrugged, "well... thanks for talking to me. I should... well, I don't know what I should do," she chuckled nervously. She should what... not finish her food and leave just because she didn't know what to do next? That's what she'd done in the past. That's what she'd always done. So then what was keeping her here? Talking to this random girl? Because she was dependable now, that's why. Because she couldn't function normally. At least not the normal she was used to.
