”Where?” Isla looked slightly confused by the question, as if shocked that he didn’t know already. ”Back home, of course. Not my home, that’d be silly and they’ve been threatening to eat our cattle for weeks now-“ She stopped, that blush returning. Stupid rambling. ”Sorry.” Taking a breath, she tried to put on a professional air once again. ”My mentor lives in the middle of this forest. A lot of Trolls he’s trained live in there, including my boys. So it’s kind of like… sending them back to their parents? It’s kind of hard to explain without showing you what I mean.” She looked, and sounded, a little more normal then. There was obviously deep affection in her voice, and that sweet smile…. She definitely cared about the pair. ”They’ll rest there until I come find them.” She needed to go check on her father before she caught up with the trolls. She’d sent him a few owls to let him know she was fine, but he’d never been a fan of the mode of communication, so his responses had been short.
Hesitating, she felt into step next to the Curse breakers, and was silent for a few minutes. There was obviously something eating at her though. And the longer the silence went, the more anxious she became, before she finally just blurted it out. ”Why are you a curse breaker?” Stupid! ”Sorry, I didn’t mean…. I mean…” she practically stuttered, fumbling over her words. ”What I mean is…” she stopped again and let out a sigh of resignation. ”I’m sorry. That was rude. Just forget it.” How hard was it to ask why he was a curse breaker when he was royalty?
See? This was why she’d ignored him, and his siblings during school! They made her a babbling idiot!

Wil hadn't really been raised as much of a talker, really. He was good at listening and acting important. Still, he wasn't sure he was going to be able to make this walk to the train without saying something. Having the mute partner he did, it was really up to him to converse with Isla and answer all of her questions and nod at all the things she was saying. "So... does your mentor get lonely out there?" he asked. He couldn't imagine living all almost in the middle of the forest. That seemed pretty horrible, actually. Wil liked nature well enough, sure, but he liked civilization more.
Then she asked why he was a curse breaker and apologized for asking. He chuckled, moving his pace to match hers, "I know what you're thinking. Too dangerous for royalty," he lifted a hand to scratch the back of his blonde head before speaking again, "I get that a lot. But it's good experience and it's... well, it's fun." He had to be honest, right? He knew he would seriously question Edmund doing something like this but... well, he was the oldest and therefore had to make a path for himself. He had to get a career, he couldn't just stare at the throne like it'd be his or something. Not that he was really gunning for it but... anyway. "It suits me. Even if it's odd. Like your job."

"Lonely?" Isla repeated, surprise in her voice. "There are the trolls, of course. The garden gnomes aren't the best company, but they're funny. And then there are the centaurs. You don't see them very often, they travel a lot but they always stop by when they are in the area." Obviously she'd misunderstood his question. Had he meant human contact? "Why would he be lonely?" Okay, it was probably pretty obvious by this point that Isla was not a city girl. At all. She was perfectly at home out here, far from all civilization.
By this point, William... or Will? Prince? Your highness? What the heck was she supposed to call him?! Anyway, that guy, was walking right next to her, his partner slowly pulling ahead to let them talk. He hadn't uttered a single word during the whole exchange. While she was fine with his silence it meant she had to keep talking to the royal... And keep making a fool of herself. "Well, if you like it, that's all that matters, right?" She smiled brightly up at him. Dang he was tall... But everyone was tall compared to her. Curse her height....
"Odd? You're tracking down cursed, or otherwise magicked relics that, in the wrong hands, could cause tremendous damage. I'd call that brave." She paused for a moment, blushing a little as she looked away. "Does your.... er.. family know what you do?" She wasn't sure about his blood status. Was he muggleborn like her? No way! All his siblings were magical, and currently at Hogwarts! Wouldn't one of his parents being magical as well explain it? But then if one of them was, wouldn't she know that? Oh goodness her head hurt just thinking about it...
It was a that moment the rest of his comment registered and she looked back at him with both eyebrows raised. "You think my job is odd?" She sounded honestly surprised in that moment, as if it had never crossed her mind up until now that being a Security Troll Trainer wasn't actually a typical job, even in the magical world.

Garnden gnomes? This girl was saying stranger things by the second. Will raised an eyebrow at her as she went on about all the non human beings that were there to make friends with and whatnot. He then she asked why and Will shrugged. "I don't know. I guess, what about affection? Like, romantic affection?" he felt weird saying that out loud. Will had been quite a flirt, sure, but she had never taken anyhthing like that very seriously. Being royalty made that... confusing, especially for a fifteen year old kid back in the day.
Thrn she called him brave and he found brave and her cheeks turned red. He felt a strange stirring in his own stomach as she said it. Then she asked him if his family knew. He nodded, "yeah, they do. My mum isn't entirely thrilled about it but... she let's me make my own decisions, I guess. My father isn't around so..." his father was in fact assasinated by some anarchist activist type, but that wasn't really old news anymore.
"No, no," he shook his head at her next words. "The job itself isn't that odd. I mean it is but-" he stopped, shaking it off before restarting. "I just mean royalty doing a dangerous job is just as odd as some small blonde thing doing your job." Yikes. Smooth.

Isla's heart was racing. She was making an absolute fool of herself. In front of a freaking royal! This was the ultimate form of embarrassment! Like, embarrassment on the national level. It really didn't help that he was actually quite handsome, and that alone made her heart beat just a little faster... Here she was talking about trolls, and gnomes, and basically being a ditzy blonde, and he took it all in calm stride. She was definitely not that cool... Not by a long shot. "Oh. Well, that's important too, I suppose." She stated absentmindedly. Suppose? She SUPPOSED?! What the heck was wrong with her today?!
"I remember. You know, when it happened." She replied a little quieter. Of course she'd heard about it. It wasn't every day a royal was assassinated. "I'm sorry." She finally added, feeling it necessary even though she'd played no hand in it. She couldn't relate to much to having a parent killed, but she did sort of know what it was like to lose a parent. She was little when her mother had passed away, and couldn't even remember her. Her father had never remarried, opting to raise her by himself. She kept that to herself though.
Okay, so her job wasn't odd. It was the fact that she was the one doing it. Nice. She didn't look all that offended though, to be honest, smiling sheepishly and shrugging. "Yeeeaaaaah. I get that a lot. But at least life is interesting!" The train station was in sight by this point....

She supposed. Hmm, whatever that meant. He nodded, feeling a little sick to his stomach that he had even brought it up. He felt his own heartbeat speeding up a bit, and he inwardly growled at himself. "Yeah, yeah I guess," he said, seemingly ending that conversation.
Then she was saying that she remembered it, when his father died. Of course it was national news but... a pureblood wouldn't have noticed. "So, are you a muggle born then? Half blood? Or do you just watch muggle news?" that last part was a joke and he cracked a bit of a smile at her. "And thank you," he said, more serious, giving her an appreciative nod. He was still getting condolences from people, which was okay with him. He was used to it by now and they generally had the best intentions, really. He could tell she did, at least.
He let out the breath he had been holding when she seemed to not be offended and smiled. "Keeping things interesting is important," he agreed as they approached the train station. "Hey, I'd... thanks for everything. Can I... I'd like to," was he stumbling over his words? Seriously? He took another breath, stopping to let his partner go up a few more paces before turning to face the girl square on. "I'd like to take you out. Lunch or something. If you're up for it." Gosh, this was a stupid idea!

Isla took a deep breath, hoping it might help calm her raging nerves and act more.... normal. If that was possible. Heaven forbid, she wished she as normal right now. Normally her awkwardness and social ineptitude didn't bother her much. "Muggle born, yup." She sounded incredibly proud by the statement as well, not at all ashamed by her blood status. "Well, muggle born that watches muggle news, so..... both?"
Will... William... Whatever it was she was supposed to call him, slowed down. Unconsciously she slowed, matching his pace. "It's no problem! It's sort of my job, and theirs-" She cut herself off, because this was NOT the time to ramble, because he was trying to say something. Her eyes widened a bit as she stopped, staring up at the young man. Was he....
He was. He was asking her out. Maybe? Yes? Yeah, she was pretty sure he was. Why? Wasn't she like... completely out of his league? Like light years out of it! For some reason she found herself smiling... "Sure!"
Oh gosh... she said yes. She said yes.
