Good News in Troubled Times (Potter Family)

Harry and Ginny came to Hogwarts together. They had good news to share with their children. It helped that he was good friends with the Headmaster. Probably that he was head auror as well. The kidnappings were still fresh in the air, though there was no evidence of the battle on the walls of the school. The house elves had done their work quickly. No one could tell that two days ago this place had been a battle ground.

It hardly seemed proper for him to feel so light with happiness. But the Potters, maybe more than anyone, needed some sort of happiness in their lives. As Harry walked through the front doors holding Ginny's hand, he couldn't keep the smile off of his face.

He had gotten permission to use the staff room for his family meeting, and had his kids called out of class to meet with them. This good news was too good to be shared over owl, in person was the only way to properly express his exultation.

"Are you ready?" He asked his wife when they stopped outside of the staff room. Their children would be waiting inside for them, wondering what was so important.

So, here they were standing outside of the staff room where there kids were gathered inside. She hoped the kids didn't think it was bad news, because that would be quite wrong. As Harry asked if she was ready, she turned to him with a bright smile. "I was born ready," awe, there was nothing Ginny loved more than cheesy one-liners. She chuckled and tightened her grip on his arm just a smidge before stepping forward and pushing open the door.

She saw her kids differently now than the last time they were all gathered. They were at her bedside at one point, Lilys at another and finally Albus's. Their family had been through a lot this year, clearly, and Ginny felt bad that her memory loss was a part of it. She wished she could take it back, of course, but there wasn't anything to be done but move forward.

And that's what this little family meeting was about. She beamed at her children, "good afternoon!"

they had been pulled out of class. that was never a good thing. it was hardly ever for a good thing. the last time he had been pulled from his classes was when his mother had been injured in the attack on her life and that had changed their lives forever. he sat in the staff room, his arms resting on the table before him and his head on his arms as he waited for his parents to arrive. he ran through his head. was their dad hurt? had he been hurt while at work? that didn't seem like a possible reason but it was there. had something happened to his mother? his grandparents? teddy? they were the only people he could see being pulled out of class for. when he heard the door open he lifted his head and was taken aback by the happy looks on his parents faces. his brow furrowed a little and he raised a brow. "your smiling. why are you smiling. isn't something wrong?" he asked as he sat there watching them, it hadn't occurred to him they would be pulled from class for good news.

Being pulled out of class was rad! Except for when it was for bad news… well, even then it was nice to skip class. But this time they weren’t going anywhere. They were taken to the staff lounge, but it seemed the Professors had hid the cool stuff because it was just a bunch of chairs. Anyway, she and her siblings sat there in anticipation and when their parents finally entered, Albus asked what Lily had been thinking.

She smiled too, looking up at them. ”Awe, come on, Al. They’re probably pregnant with your replacement,” she was one thousand percent joking, of course, and stuck her tongue out at him before raising an eyebrow at her parents. ”But really, what’s up? I got like, homework and stuff,” and then she full on laughed at that one.

Their children were all there, Ginny was next to him and Harry felt the best that he had in weeks. When they walked into the Staff Room, the kids seemed nervous, well except for Lily. Did anything phase that girl? Harry wasn't sure how to say he news, mostly because he knew that no matter how he said it it was going to sound cheesy.

Glancing at Ginny once more he turned back to his kids. "We're renewing our vows." he beamed. "Basically we're getting re-married, since she doesn't remember the first one. More good news, none of you remember the first one either since you weren't even born, so you get to be part of it!" Yep, he knew it. Cheesy. But honestly, he didn't mind much, how could he when everything seemed to finally be working out?

The news of the kidnappings was still so fresh in James's mind that when he had been pulled out of class, he had automatically assumed it was for something bad and had headed to the staff room with his heart pounding and anticipating the worse: like his dad being captured or hurt, or hid godbrother being killed or something. At this point James honestly believed that nothing good was going to happen this year. The only good that that had happened to him was Aurora and everything else after had just taken a giant poo on that one good thing that James had in his life. He hated it but he couldn't be mad at his family for things they couldn't control.

James sat there in the staff room between Albus and Lily. He was slumped into the back of his chair and nothing was properly registering in his mind which was why when his parents stepped out smiling, James just sat there staring at the ground and didn't even notice until Lily had cracked some joke. He looked up at his parents just in time to hear those words leave his father's mouth. "We're renewing our vows." James stared at them and blinked for a moment. Then it dawned on him. Something good was happening. Something actually good. Instantly James shot up out of his chair and in a second sprinted the small distance between he and his parents and enveloped them both in the biggest hug he was sure he had ever given them. "Really? I mean, really? Is this really happening?" He pulled away from his parents and he was beaming at them. He was so happy something good was finally happening to their family.

Ginny wasn't surprised that the kids expected bad news. That's all they had for months! At least Lily was trying to make jokes about it. Pregnancy was a freaky thought, though, and Ginnys eyes did widen at that comment for a moment. After Harry had given the news, Ginny found herself laughing at the looks on their kids faces. She nodded as James asked if this was really happening. "It is!" she smiled, tightening her grip around Harry with a happy laugh freely flowing from her lips.

She hadn't been this happy since her and Harrys first kiss a few years- erh - a lot of years ago.

More good news, none of you remember the first one either since you weren't even born, so you get to be part of it!" al raised his brow a little. they were getting married again? okay he was glad that his parents had started to fall in love all over. well not all over but that his mother had started to come around to the idea of being married to his dad but it was still a little bit .. well al didn't understand why they would want to do it again but who was he to mention that. they looked happier than they had since his mother had lost her memory and they needed a win. he smiled slightly and watched his parents and then his older brother go engulf them both in a hug. "well that'll be fun" he added, hoping it actually would be. though he had to add on one other thing. "i am not wearing a suit though" he said, joking with a straight face really but his parents knew him.

Lily's eyes widened at her parents words and her mouth dropped open for a moment. Then Albus spoke and she turned to face him before closing her mouth, turning back to her parents. A smile grew on her face and she stood up, moving forward to hug her father first, then her mother, and then slipped in between them and put her arms around either of their waists. "Well, as long as I get to be the maid of honor this time! Aunty Luna got to last time, mum," she said, turning toward Ginny with a faux pout. Then she laughed, "as long as you guys get a hotel room that night so we don't have to deal with you then I'm all for it. James can be the ring bearer," she said, rapidly raising both eyebrows at her brother.

The delivery of such news could not have come at a better time. With everything going on in James's life... he had really began to feel down a lot more as of recently; Aurora being on of the only good things he had positively in his life. But hearing this... it was so wonderful. James could not help but grin as he watched his sister go to hug their parents and even Al made a little joke. Or at least a "joke" for Al. James playfully rolled his eyes at Lily's comment about him being the ring bearer. "Very funny," he narrowed his eyes at his sister but smiled all the while.

"When is this happening?" James now addressed his parents, happily. He still felt bad for his mother; while she had seemed a lot more comfortable with them now, he still wished she could have all of her old memories back. But perhaps a joyous occasion such as the upcoming renewal of their vows would help jog some of those old memories.

With Ginny's hand in his he beamed at his children. Most of the people he truly cared about were in this room, and for the first time in quite a while, they were all happy.

"June. Sometime in the middle of June, we haven't decided on a day." Harry told James, then he looked pointedly at Lily. "If I want to have my wedding night in my house, I'll do it." He said with a total straight face. Then a grin snuck out of his composure and hugged her close with his free arm, kissing the top of her head. She had woodsy sent that was new, but that was probably due to the werewolf bite she had, Lupin never smelled like that (that he remembered) but that was 20 years ago.

"We're going to Grimmauld place, so you will be safe from any embarrassing moments on our part." Harry told her. Grimmauld place was close to town, free, and actually really nice now that Kreature had cleaned it up. True they had to sneak past the portrait of Mrs. Black, but that wasn't new. Kreature actually had excellent decorating taste and had gotten new or fixed up all the old furniture. You couldn't even tell the place was practically condemned years ago.

Ginny couldn’t help but faux glare at Albus and Lily in turn as they made their snarky little comments. She also couldn't help but smile, because she must have been a pretty awesome mom to raise such sassy kids in the first place! She laughed allowed as Lily suggested James be the ring bearer and reached over to squeeze James’s arm as he asked when it was happening. She turned toward Harry and gave him the chance to answer before speaking herself, ”It’s going to be a fairly simple occasion, so you don’t have to worry about anything crazy,” she said, her eyes landing on Al then and giving him a little smile. ”Anyway, we just wanted to come tell you guys first. We want you all to be a part of it as… as a family, you know,” she nodded firmly as she said that, reaching over to Lily on Harrys other side to place a hand on her shoulder in a sort of mini group hug.

"if there's one thing we don't want to know about? it's your wedding night" he said as he folded his arms across his chest lightly as he stood up from the chair he had been sitting in to lean against one of the tables in the staff room. "We're going to Grimmauld place, so you will be safe from any embarrassing moments on our part." al grinned a little and refrained from rolling his eyes again. there were just some things he didn't want to know about his parents. ”It’s going to be a fairly simple occasion, so you don’t have to worry about anything crazy,” how could something like this not be crazy? their family was going to be there. that in itself was going to make it crazy. then if you factored in their friends and luna .. luna would be there and if anyone knew crazy. but in a good way. "not crazy? you've met your family haven't you mom? we're like the description for crazy in the dictionary." he said as he kept his arms folded across his chest. he was glad for them, they looked happy standing there as they hugged lily between them and then james adding his two cents. it was nice to see since he knew there had been struggles with his parents since his mothers memory loss. he rubbed the back of his neck lightly and glanced to the door. "so are we allowed to go back to class now? or?" he asked, hoping it didn't come across the wrong way.

Lily held her hands up in surrender as Harry said that he could have his wedding wherever he wanted. She allowed him to pull her into his arms and snuggled up against him there, smiling over at her mother as she did so. It was rare to see Lily in such a state of... gentleness, but her family had seen it plenty of times. Heck, they were the only ones who really had. She raised an eyebrow at Al from under her dads arm as he asked if they could go back to class. "You want to go back to class? Geez, Al, when did you become such a sodding loser?" she chuckled slightly and then held her hands out to Al as if to stop any oncoming attacks. "I'm only joking, Al!" she called, biting her lip and giving a little shrug in his direction.

She then turned back to her parents. "Well, this sounds like fun! Can't have enough weddings, amiright?" she leaned up to kiss Harry on the cheek before ducking out from under his arm.

The grin upon James Sirius' face was one of the widest he had ever worn in his life. He was so happy that his parents, despite all that had happened and was still going on with his mother, could look past it all and find happiness. It proved to James that anything was possible, even in dark times. And when his mother reached out and squeezed his arm, he felt that familiar motherly feeling he used to get with her... one that he hadn't really felt since she had forgotten about being his mother. If he hadn't been surrounded by his siblings, he probably would have let a tear or two fall but he knew they would give him hell for it so he took in a deep breath and turned to look at Al just as Lily was poking fun at him.

"Yeah... thought you'd be thrilled to get out of class. I, for one, am all for keeping out of it. Anything else you guys want to drop on us?" James looked back at his parents, half joking. While he really would like to keep out of class... his heart wasn't sure if it could handle any other surprise for the rest of his life.
