Summer, winter – who cared? A vacation was still a vacation, and she got to spend it with all of her favorite people in the world! Her mom was right, anyways – British summers weren’t all that sunny, at least compared to other places. “Everyone will be so jealous when I say I got to go sledding over the summer!” Xan half-shouted, practically dancing in her seat. They could make snow forts and have snowball fights and go sledding and make snow angels and it would be like Christmas vacation, but in summer! “What do Dad and Uncle Ron think?” Xan asked. She knew that her mother and godmother were both on board, so it was really only the fathers that she was left worrying about. Sometimes they could be spoilsports.

Leslie laughed as Xan jumped out of her seat practically as she spoke of sledding and no doubt was picturing all the other fun things they would be doing. At the mention of Ben and Ron, Leslie shrugged, "your father seems on board, I haven't heard the verdict on Ronald yet," she said. Ben often agreed to anything Leslie suggested. They had their disagreements, of course, but he had proved she was hard to resist over the years and she knew when she could convince him and when to let him have it his way. They were rather well practiced at compromise by this point but usually they just agreed, which was a blessing. After a moment of finishing her food the clock tower bell rang and Leslie looked at the watch on her wrist. ”It’s almost time to head to classes,” she announced, ”anything else we should discuss before we go?” she asked, glancing back up at Xanthippe.

Xan smiled when her mother said that her father was on board with the idea. She should have expected as much, considering how in sync her parents always were. She wasn’t as sure if Uncle Ron always agreed with the plan, but he was rational enough to realize if all of the other adults were on board, he wasn’t going to win the argument. When the bell rang, Xan startled – she hadn’t even remembered to eat her food because she was so excited to speak with her mother. The Ravenclaw began shoving food into her mouth as fast as she could. It would have been comical if she hadn’t been so desperate to eat. She had been hungry, but her mother trumped hunger every time. “Nope.” Xan said through a mouthful of mashed potatoes. She was pretty sure that her reply was too muffled from the food, so Xan swallowed quickly and repeated herself. “Nope, but I’m gonna try to finish eating before everything disappears!” With that, she buried herself in her food again, eating like a maniac in an attempt to beat the clock.

As Xan scarfed down the rest of the food Leslie laughed loudly, preparing to leave. Xan was lucky and grateful that she could eat anything she wanted, it seemed, and Leslie was always happy for her even though the other two kids couldn’t do the same. ”All right, when you’re finished there then I’ll walk you back to you dorm,” she was still laughing as she offered. Her mind was wandering a bit into the summer plans that she would be making with Hermione and her family…
