Rose Weasley had been to the Hogwarts library enough by now to know the names of all of the books. Like her mother before, she spent a lot of time studying here. Usually with friends, but every now and then Rose would find herself wandering to the library with one of her favorite fiction books in hand to get some piece and quiet. The library wasn't exactly the most popular place in the castle, so it was almost always empty aside from the occasional studying student or fellow Ravenclaw, also looking to get away from everyone else. Rose loved the people whom she always found in the library. She felt she could relate with them without really having to speak to them. Perhaps it was strange, but Rose felt like it was a little exclusive community.
Upon entering the library, Rose immediately noticed that it was empty on this Monday afternoon. Which was typical, for it was the beginning of the week and there had hardly been any assignments given to the students yet. Rose was thankful for a small break, as she had been doing homework all weekend. It was definitely good to be back at school, where there was no shortage of schoolwork or drama and silly first years, or students playing pranks on one another. And this year, there was especially no shortage of drama. James Potter, Rose's cousin, had discovered a dead muggleborn girl on the train. Rose felt for James, for it was the first dead body he had ever seen. Rose also felt for the girl. Growing up with a mother who was raised by muggles really made Rose compassionate toward muggles. She loved them just as much as she loved magical folk and to know that there was someone out there probably plotting to kill muggleborns had Rose on high alert.
Rose was a halfblood herself, so she wasn't necessarily the purest of the pure. She felt like she had to defend all muggleborns around her, and that was exactly what she planned to do. She had already threatened a group of Slytherins that were tormenting a small group of first years the first night off the train, saying things like "you lot better watch your back." It was things like this that immediately made the hairs on the back of Rose's neck stand on end as she would respond quickly by pulling out her wand and threatening to hex the group. She was rather skilled in charms and hexes, and if there was one person you didn't want to piss off it was Rose Weasley.
The brunette witch sighed as she found herself a spot in a corner of the library, hidden from plain view by a rack of shelves that went from the ground to the ceiling. She loved the library because even if it was crowded, it was still private because of all the tall shelves. It was like a maze. Rose sat herself at a table, setting her bag down on the ground beside the chair before sitting in the chair herself. She took one of her favorite books, Tales of the Beetle and the Bard, out of her bag and began to read the book, her chin resting in her left hand as her right held the book open in front of her.

There was one thing Scorpius Malfoy could not stay away from: books. There was something about books that just enticed Scorpius. He didn’t read the to learn something. He didn’t read them because he was told to. No. Scorpius just liked to read. He loved to read.
Classes were over for the day for Scorpius and he was left in his dorm room. He was currently trying on a different shirt from the one he wore this morning. Though to be quite intelligent and observant, Scorpius was quite vain and egotistic as well. He took pride in his looks and the way people saw him, especially recently. Before he was the young boy everyone knew and rolled their eyes at. He was charming and playful with a face to match. But at some point, Scorpius was not that boy. He was now a young man. Facial hair coming in, muscles pushing out and building up. Scorpius was not just tall and lanky. No he was now well toned and definitely different.
His clothes fit him better and so did his voice, much deeper and louder. The only thing that stayed the same was his humor and laid back personality. He slipped his arms through the wholes of a light blue button up shirt. He already had on his wife beater and only needed something to fit on top. Sure he had mainly one style of shirt, but the colors were endless. Finally decided on something to accent his features, mainly his eyes. He buttoned up his shirt, leaving a few at the top undone and tucked the tails of his shirt into his pants. No ties for him and no robes. They were constrincting and he hated wearing them throughout his classes.
Hair gelled up and wand in pocket, Scorpius went to the only place he had near him to get that of which was the apple of his eye at the moment, amusement, books. He climbed up the stairs leading to the main part of the castle before he began jumping the steps two at a time to get to the fourth floor.
On the way he waved and said hi to a few people, any person, who passed by him until he was at the opening of the library. Inside it was pretty much a ghost town. Being Monday, it left the library empty, previous assignments already turned in and new assignments procrastinating on. The blonde entered it nonetheless and made his way in. What should he read this time? The Malfoy heir walked upon isle after isle. His eyes went over the bindings of all the books and yet nothing perked his interest.
In all honesty the only thing that perked his interested what was at the end of the isle he just entered. Someone besides the librarian was in the library. He looked around before he shrugged. He was, after all, looking for some amusement, company could be such, right?
He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his slacks and made his way over to the student. As he got closer, the realization of who he was approaching became clear. He smiled a bit and looked around before he stole the seat next to Rose Weasley. “Look, I found a Weasel!” he cheered putting his hands on the table top and folding them.

Rose liked to believe that she wasn't a complete and total Ravenclaw "nerd," but her personality and attributes really told others otherwise. She was all of the typical traits of a Ravenclaw. Intelligent, witty, bossy, and a bit of a know-it-all. She liked to be the first to answer in all of her classes, particularly charms, and she liked to be right. Rarely would Rose raise her hand if she was unsure or wrong. Also, like a Ravenclaw, it was easy for Rose to get lost in books. Especially fiction books, as she loved reading about stories of others, living in their world for a brief time. She loved books. So, really, Rose was the total epitome of Ravenclaw "nerd."
Another stereotype Rose fit well was her dislike for most Slytherins. There were a few, of course, that didn't quite fit the bill for unlikeable Slytherin. Much like her cousin, Albus. But most other Slytherins usually received many eye rolls and scoffs from Rose in class. She avoided most, just to avoid conflict mainly. But when approached by one, she would swallow her pride and interact.
Seldom was Rose also surprised or taken aback by something unexpect.
“Look, I found a Weasel!” Rose jumped in her seat, her hands moving from holding down her book, causing her to lose her place. She looked at the unwanted visitor with wide eyes and was surprised to see Scorpius Malfoy. Rose knew him, of course. They were in the same year and had had many classes together over the years. She had always found him to be quite annoying, to be honest. And she felt no different now.
The brunette rolled her eyes and scoffed, of course, at the blonde Slytherin. "And I spy a snake," she replied, opening her book back up. She had never before really gotten along with Scorpius, but then again, she had never really spoken to him. Considering their last names, they had just kind of avoided one another their wholes lives.

Rose’s reaction was not one Scorpius was expecting. Actually, the blonde wasn’t sure on what to expect. He didn’t know Rose Weasley at all. Sure she was in his classes and he’s heard stories and rumors, but he never really got a chance to actually interact with her. Scorpius never had a chance to do anything. He usually just did things on the whim. No planning, he just acted. Like now. He strolled up to the one person his father wanted him to avoid and well, the reaction was quick amusing. The boy gave her a cheeky grin in reply before he chuckled at her reply.
“Oh come on Rosey-posey, Weasel comes from Weasley. How do you possibly get snake from Malfoy?” He raised his eyebrow. He, of course, knew she was referring to his house of origin and not his name. But to him that didn’t matter. No he was coming off from her name and she wasn’t replying correctly to follow. The blonde watched her for a minute. She had taken her book and open it back up. He sat there for a moment, just watching her. Scorpius was a person to just sit and watch people. He never really had a problem just staring and observing people, he got a kick out of it. As of now. Just watching Rose.
Rose Weasley. She was quite pretty, but Scorpius, though did think about appearances a lot, thought more of a person by personality and traits than their face. Rose had something else and though Scorpius never indulged in it before, there was no one to stop him now.
The blonde looked in front of him. His blue eyes looked over the little corner Rose had choose. He twisted a bit in his chair, his eyes still roaming around. He turned his head a bit to the right then the left. The library was completely empty. It would still be empty up and until tomorrow. So why did Rose still choose a place so far away? The blonde turned his eyes back to the brunette. He had a playful smile on his face as he kept watching her. One more moment passed before Scorpius sat properly in his chair. He folded his arms over the table before leaning over and bumping his shoulder into hers. He glanced back at her. “How cliché can I be without annoying you?” he finally said his now deep voice disrupting the silence around him. “’cause I know sitting here already is annoying you, but I want to try to limit how much annoyance I can deliver at one time.” His eyes went to being in front of him after he spoke. "But I have this large impulse to hit on you. But in all honesty, that wouldn't work on you, would it?"

All of Rose's life, she had been told about her parents' days at Hogwarts. Her father had particularly mentioned an old scum by the last name of Malfoy. Upon getting on the train her first year, she could recall her father shooting a man with very blonde hair a dirty look from across the platform. The man had a young boy that looked to be Rose's age with him. Later Rose would learn during the Sorting Ceremony that the boy was Scorpius Malfoy. So, Rose had always avoided speaking to him. If only to make her family happy and not cause any trouble.
"How do you possibly get snake from Malfoy?” At this, Rose rolled her eyes. "I thought all Malfoys were big, ugly snakes?" She asked, feigning confusion. She looked back at her book and started scanning through the pages to find her place but to no avail. She kept her head facing her book, but she felt like Scorpius was... watching her. She pressed her lips together and she shut her book, putting it back into her bag.
It was quiet for a few minutes, and the silence felt slightly awkward to the Weasley. Then the Malfoy's deep voice brok the silence and Rose had to admit she was a little startled at just how deep his voice was. Finally Rose turned to face the blonde Slytherin. Her mouth in a straight line. Why was Scorpius still here? Why was he speaking to her in the first place? If there was one thing Rose noticed as she looked at him, it was that over the summer holiday, he had really... matured. He looked more like a young man now, she noticed. She tried not to make it obvious that she was looking him up and down, and luckily he spoke and surprised her.
What did he just say?
"Hit on me?" Rose replied, raising an eyebrow at him skeptically. The Ravenclaw forced a little laugh, for the statement had made her a little nervous, but she didn't let it show. She shook her head at the blonde, slightly pursing her lips. "I don't think so," she said, her lips curling slightly in a smirk.

Well then, “Big maybe. I am quite tall and muscly, but ugly? Hardly.” Even though she already turned to face away from him and at her book, Scorpius took on a large grin. “That’s alright though! You don’t know any better, you obviously haven’t met any of the good ones.” He doubted she even met a single one other than him and seeing as this was their first encounter, not much could be said. He was more than positive that she was speaking from the poisoned words of her family. He couldn’t blame her though. His father and grandfather didn’t give Scorpius much to work with social wise. But he had been trying his hardest to stay out of that sort of trouble and pin point himself as someone independent and not connected to such ways. It was sort of working.
And the book was away! Scorpius mentally cheered as Rose stuffed her own book into her bag. The blonde readied himself for a chase, except the Weasley girl didn’t move to get up. She was still planted in her seat. Now that really interested him. Now for what happened next, well Scorpius didn’t point out. Actually, completely new to the whole being check out sort of scene, he thought Rose was just analyzing the situation. He just continued on his merry way, having fun with the young woman.
Now Scorpius wasn’t looking to getting anywhere near along with Rose. From the moment he sat down, he knew it would be an abundance of work. And having no fear for rejection, even playful rejection, he continued on with his attempts. “Yes. Hit on. As in say something charming and flattering in efforts to make you swoon on my behalf. Not literally hit on though... I rather not hit a girl unless provoked.” He rambled off and was cut when she spoke again. Scorpius looked at her amused. Her lips were formed in a smirk. “You don’t think so?” Scorpius challenged looking at her.
“Is that because nobody worthy has hit on you or the fact that many suitors have and it just hadn’t effected you?” His blue eyes trailed over the details of Rose’s face. This was far too interesting for him to just walk way or let their moment break. “It’s both, huh?” His eyebrows lifted for a moment and then relaxed. “I’m sure someone as beautiful as you is constantly greeted upon with such.” Scorpius shrugged a bit, “Except, they never realized how intelligent you are to not fall for such crap... there’s a food for thought!” Scorpius was a talker. He liked to say things and hoped the things he said would sound as clever as what he turned in for homework. “So if lavish words don’t work on you, what will?” Curiosity was all over his face. Now he was on a thought process, he wanted a few answers. “Can’t be money. You don’t strike me as someone to be materialistic. So if not materialistic and over intelligent for simple cliché words…” He thought out loud. The blonde leaned back in his chair, turning away from her and thought for a moment. “You were reading something of fiction which can be led to you being a romantic. You were completely enclosed in your book to be thought otherwise.” He scratched the bottom of his chin and glanced at her. “Means I’ll have to work insanely hard.” Though he wasn’t completely invested in it at the moment, Scorpius was amused by the idea. “So let’s start this way.” He turned completely to the side to face her and stuck out his hand, “I’m Scorpius Malfoy, pleasure to make your acquaintance.” He smirked at her and waited for a response.

Rose had to give it to him. Ugly was something Scorpius Malfoy was not. That much was obvious. He was a very handsome young man, and it wasn't until now that Rose was able to realize that. She rolled her eyes about her never meeting any "good" Malfoys. It was true she never had. But Rose had always just assumed, because of what she had heard, that they were not nice people. But if Scorpius was at all like what her father described his father to be, he wouldn't be talking to her right now.
"I know what you meant," Rose retorted, a know-it-all tone in her voice. She stayed true to her first statement. She let out a little "ha," and returned the smirk. "I don't," she shook her head once more. Rose had dealt with flirtatious guys before. She was not new in the field of turning down obnoxious and annoying boys.
Rose pursed her lips together again as Scorpius continued to nod. She lifted her shoulders a bit and gave way to a little nod in response, indicating that it was indeed a little of both. In the past, Rose had either not found a boy interesting or their attempts had just not effected her in any way at all. Much like Scorpius'... Did he just call her beautiful? Once again, she kept her eyes on him, unimpressed. She wasn't going to let her surprise register on her face. After a minute, Rose quickly realized that the Malfoy liked to talk... a lot. He was hardly giving her a moment to respond. But then again... she almost didn't want to. She wanted to continue to let him speak, for it seemed like he was almost trying to... decipher her. Rose liked that.
Rose raised her eyebrows. He hit it on the nail with romance, but she wasn't about to let him know that. Rose just smirked and nodded at him when he said he would have to work hard. Rose wasn't easy, and she especially wasn't going to make it easy for him.
Scorpius then turned to face Rose, sticking his hand out to her. “I’m Scorpius Malfoy, pleasure to make your acquaintance.” For a moment, Rose just looked at his hand. What was he playing at? She looked up to meet his eyes, then glanced back down at his hand. Rose exhaled and then the smirk returned to her lips, looking at him as well. "Rose Weasley, how very nice to meet you."

Oh she was feisty. Her tone hit Scorpius loud and clear. She had confidence and knowledge right behind it to the point of it being considered know-it-all. Actually, she was downright using that Granger know-it-all trait. But Scorpius didn’t seem taken aback by it. He actually welcomed it. Scorpius liked knowledge and intelligence, especially when one has gathered as much and held confidence behind their stand. Even if it was behind something so trivial.
He nodded and continued on. He just rambled. He said things and put words together hoping things would just work out. At this moment, Scorpius just went with it like he did with majority of his dealings.
Rose seemed to be keeping up as Scorpius talked. He was wondering if she would follow. With a lot of girls nowadays, Scorpius couldn’t say a lot. It didn’t work on them. Complement them and then go on about asking out. A few nice words earned them a free dinner. There was something completely sexist about that but that was another subject Scorpius could drone on about, why did the guy always have to pay? Not like he couldn’t, but he wanted to know why. That was curiosity for another time. At the moment, his eyes were set on Rose and how she was reacting to what he was saying. So far, there was no shut up spoken, which was a good thing.
Scorpius, many times, had been told to shut up. Either because he was being overly charming but also because he would just speak his mind, as in now.
No he wasn’t interested in impressing her…just yet. He was testing the waters and seeing what would work and what didn’t. His talking apparently didn’t move her, but it didn’t chase her away. She just let him talk. Which so far, he appreciated. And nodding along, even though she thought it to be aloof, gave him some insight to the Weasley girl. He was more than positive about the romance liking, even if she didn’t full out agree on it. And having him work for her attention and possibly courtship was an indication that she was in fact a romantic and not just any romantic but one who wasn’t fully invested in looking for the right person, she was waiting for it to happy. But, again, Scorpius was sure he wouldn’t get that far with her.
The blonde had all day. He could wait for Rose to act the part. But she was sure driving him mad making him wait. Their eyes locked for a minute. There was nothing but pure intentions with the greeting. He had nothing to hide, nothing to feel ashamed about and nothing ill to disguise. It was Scorpius being, well, Scorpius. Friendly. But she didn’t take his hand. She acted as if it were poisonous. But knowing where their families stood, especially hers, he couldn’t blame her really. It didn’t faze him. He let his hand drop to his lap. He held no awkward feeling towards her. “So are you ready?” he then question her, a playful sparkle placed back in his blue eyes.

Rose had never noticed Scorpius enough to really think anything of him, but his sitting here in front her and speaking to her was... intriguing Rose. There was something about him that just went against everything her father told her about the Malfoys. She didn't even know him but she could just tell that he was nothing like his father was at his age. Rose had talked to boys before, of course, but never any so talkative. That was different about him, too. Why had she never before taken a moment to give him the time of day?
Oh, because she didn't want to disobey her father. Rose loved her parents equally, and while she had always been close with her mother for their bond over intelligence and books, she was equally close with her father because of their tendency to talk about anything and everything under the son. So many times in the past had her father told her about Draco Malfoy and how he had tormented his parents all throughout school. The way he spoke of him really painted a horrid picture in her mind for what the Malfoys were. And considering that Draco sounded a lot like his father, Rose had always just assumed that such traits ran in the family. So she supposed that she had always thought Scorpius was probably the same big-headed git. Rose couldn't imagine going against her father's wishes to stay away from the Malfoys, even if Scorpius was a handsome guy that seemed... pretty nice on the outside.
Rose watched the Slytherin as he spoke, however she found herself watching his facial features for a moment and really taking in how good looking he was. Surely he had to be the best looking one in the family, for she had seen his father before. Maybe he took after his mother...
“So are you ready?” Rose blinked, mindlessly. She had missed what he was talking about. Had she really just been staring at him? Rose wasn't that shallow. She cursed herself for mindlessly staring at him. "Ready for what?" She then asked, a little cluelessly.
