Since the day the students were kidnapped, everything was quiet. The whole school seemed to be suffering from this tragedy. People's friends were taken, some even had their siblings taken. Elaine and... the others had been taken. Why was he spared? He was sitting in the common room, uneasy and unable to sit still, just like he had been since the initial attack. As he sat in the common room, he looked around. it seemed that Nott girl, whom he was sure she and her brother "fought for the same team" as Matty, was still there but her brother had been taken. She seemed oddly calm, though, and he found that odd. Matty, on the other hand, was huge mess.
Sophia had been taken. And why? Everyone else seemed to either be seventh year or with Elaine and Sophia was neither... Matty was a nervous wreck. He paced back and forth in the common room now, which he had been spending a lot of his time doing since the kidnapping. He couldn't help but wonder if Sophia was hurt, or if Elaine was in on it, or when he would hear from her and the others. It was too much. And Sophia... Matty loved her. That much he was now certain of. He had for some time but now... now he was certain he could admit it to her. He just needed to be with her.
After a few minutes of pointless pacing, Matty heaved a long, frustrated sigh and fell down into a black, leather armchair. The best thing he could do was wait it out until the students were saved.
@edmund Sorry this took so long! :]

Edmund was fuming. He hated the whole situation, everything that was going on. Why did people have to ruin his plans? All he wanted was to go to school, odd as that sounded. He wanted to learn more about magic until he could go off on his own and make his way with it. Naturally, everything at Hogwarts would have to go insane once he arrived there. It was just his typical luck.
He stormed through the castle, looking for something to divert him, but there was nothing, so he made his way down to the dungeons. Maybe there would be someone to talk to down there or something. In the least, he could find something to do. Something to distract him from his family. He was too frustrated to think of them at the moment.
Edmund walked into the common room, taking a quick glance around before he saw someone who seemed to be just as frustrated as he was. A small smile crossed his face before he tucked it away. Mat. Why hadn't he thought of him before?
Quickly making his way across the common room to where his friend was strewn out on a black chair, Edmund didn't waste any time. "Hey Mat. It's been a while. How're you coming?" he asked quietly as he sat down on the edge of a nearby chair. He knew this wasn't the type of conversation either of them would want overheard, but at the same time he couldn't wait. He needed to talk to someone and Mat was just the person. He'd understand.

Matty sat in the chair, slumped down into it, his face pretty blank as he stared out at the empty space in front of him. That was, until that space had been filled by another Slytherin. A familiar one, at that. It was Edmund. Fellow Quidditch team mate and a good guy. Matty had always gotten on with him and he was happy for the human interaction when Edmund engaged him in a conversation. It was hard to take his mind off of the Hufflepuff but he was going to try and busy himself to lower his worries.
"Ed," Matty let out a relieved sigh. "I'm glad to see you... I'm - well, I've been better, mate." He shook his head, looking down at his lap momentarily before sitting up more straight in the chair now. "What about you? Your family all - all safe?" He couldn't help but hesitate in asking the question; for while Sophia wasn't his family, she felt as good as and she certainly wasn't safe.

Edmund nodded, not really surprised by Mat's greeting. No one in the school was doing well right now, of course. It was basically to be expected. At the same time, however, Ed was pleased to see his friend. Something was wrong with his friend, but Ed knew Mat well enough to know that if he wanted to talk about it he would. It was better to not push. That's the way it was with most Slytherins as well.
Ed leaned forward as his friend sat up. He shrugged at the next question, trying to buy his irritation and hide how deeply upset he was. He didn't mind sharing with Mat, but he didn't want everyone in the common room to know what was going on. He took a deep breath and answered pretty vaguely. Surely Mat had his own things to deal with. "I'm ... about the same as you. Luckily my family's all safe. I mean, I was with Susan and Lucy during the attack, so I knew they were fine, and then Wil came the next day so I know he and Mum are good too. What about your family?" he asked in return. He knew he was keeping the conversation light, but he couldn't think of anything else to say. No questions were coming to his mind, he was too upset for that.
