Maryn could only smile as she watched Alice take out her wand and watch the dragon. She could see that Alice was thinking back to how she felt that day in transfiguration. Maryn let her smile falter just a little bit as she saw her housemate’s face turn red and then even redder. Whatever it was that Alice had felt that day was now back and it most likely embarrassed her as well. Anger was one way to do magic but that was not good, she needed to be able to do that magic with happy thoughts, not in anger, because you can’t walk around all of the time pissed off at every little thing in the world, that just would not work.
Once the dragon had been turned into a book, Maryn took a minute before saying “See you can do transfiguration. But now we need to get you to be able to do it without the anger, because that can cause your magic to do things you do not want it to do. I am assuming that you felt angry about something, and then as you remembered that feeling you also felt embarrassed. So now we need you to find a happy memory or feeling to use and that will fuel your drive and it will make doing transfiguration a lot easier.” As she finished Maryn turned her head back towards the fire for a few minutes.
Maryn flicked her wand and said “melis cristallum” turning the book into a crystal badger. “Now I want you to think and of something that makes you happy and angry, and I want you to turn the badger back into the book and then back to being a crystal badger once more. Go on give it a try. Also do not worry if you cannot do it. Also if you want to stop doing this and just talk we can do that as well. It is up to you.” Maryn said hoping that Alice would at least try to use a happy feeling to do what she had instructed her to do.

Alice looked at Maryn as she spoke. When she requested that Alice do it with less anger, Alice initially felt like lashing out at Maryn for asking that of her. But then... Alice realized that was exactly what Maryn meant... be less angry. Not only did it do things to your magic, but also one's personality and overall health. And it was obvious to many that Alice was very obviously an angry person. So Alice decided she would take Maryn up on one more offer. "I can do that," she nodded, simply. She pointed her wand at the now crystal badger and closed her eyes.
Suddenly Alice was on the back of Diana, Carcer Hagrid's Abraxan. When Carcer had offered Alice a ride, she did not thing it would be as breathtaking as it was. The Abraxans were much larger than Alice, but that didn't scare her. She loved animals and Carcer loved animals too. Perhaps it was an animal lover thing to sense when other people loved animals as much as they did... she had never penned Carcer as an animal lover but then again... it didn't surprise her. But as Alice closed her eyes to think about that moment when she had riden on Diana, she found herself thinking more of when she looked over at Carcer during that moment of pure happiness in the sky. How natural he looked riding Apollo and how confident he was. It surprised Alice that this was what was her "happy" moment but for the time being, she felt no anger. So she flicked her wand at the badger.
The crystal badger transformed back into a book and Alice opened her eyes. She blinked for a moment at it in surprise then once again looked up at Maryn for approval. Her eyebrows raised at her.

Maryn smiled at the determination that Alice was showing. It was nice being able to help people with something that they struggled with. There Alice wasn’t such an angry person at all. She just had to see the good in things. When the badger turned back into the book and Alice looked at her for approval, Maryn nodded. “Now wasn’t that easier, using a happy memory I mean?” She asked Alice. “Someone that I consider and older brother told me over the summer. Learn from the bad moments and enjoy and live for the happy ones. Happiness is something that makes things easier in life. That is how you were able to turn the badger back into the book so easily. Memories are powerful things.” She stated.
Her thoughts had turned back towards the day that her dad had been killed. But they weren’t sad thoughts no she had done this before, analyze each aspect of that day. It had been a great day until that fatal point. What had she learned from that bad experience? Well one was to live life to its fullest. Next was to always be on your guard for you never know what is around the next corner. Maryn was going to join Ronan’s group and she was also going to go to the extra lessons that Walton had invited her to attend.
“Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what is the whole issue between you and Cori?” Maryn asked, wondering just what had caused this rivalry or the vendetta that Cori and Alice had against each other. She already knew Cori’s side of the story and she was hoping that if she knew what Alice’s side of the story maybe she could try and fix the rift and or animosity between the two.

Alice watched Maryn as she explained how powerful memories could be. Alice had never thought of that, but she supposed that Maryn was right. She looked back to the book. It was so easy that time to perform the spell, if only because she was thinking of that moment when she was on the Abraxans with Carcer. While she had performed the spell just as easily angry, being happy felt... good, like she had truly fulfilled something.
Whatever happiness was left in Alice went right out the window at Maryn's next question. What was the issue? Alice's eyes narrowed into a glare and she turned her head quickly to face Maryn. "That's none of your business," she said, her voice cold. Alice should have known that this question would have risen sooner or later. After all, Maryn was Cori's best friend..

"That's none of your business," Maryn sighed, she kne that this topic would put Alice off her rocker and might just make it not at all possible for Maryn to become friends with. However she would at least try to keep her own anger in check right now. There was no way that she could possibly be friends with Alice now. Being at odds with her best friend did not bode well at all for Maryn’s fellow Hufflepuff. “I think it is my business Alice. Cori is my best friend and all I am trying to do is get both sides of the story as to why you are all at odds with each other. I hate seeing people fight about things. I also think that it would be most beneficial for everyone if you just set aside your differences.” Maryn explained what she was trying to do, and there was absolutely no reason for Alice to get mad at her for looking out for both girls.
“Alice, I think that you should at least try to get to know Cori for who she really is. And being her best friend I can safely say that she is stubborn as are you. So take the time to get to know her and you might actually gain a friend. Just be warned she does not trust people easily.” Maryn said in a level tone. She had half the mind to walk off but first she had to clear this up and if not oh well.
