Some teachers had a strict ritual – some did not. Some had a tight schedule – in which every hour and class was well thought out – others did not. Some knew exactly what they were going to do for that day – and others just winged it and waited to see what happened.
Zach liked to think that he wasn’t any of the above—well not all the time anyways. He wasn’t one to stick to rigid routines. He had his lesson plans yes – but if there was problems with certain charms or if he saw something not going right…he was flexible. But hopefully today’s class wouldn’t be too much of a problem. It was for the seventh years—a practice class for their N.E.W.T. exams. To see how much they remembered or if there was something they could use more practice with. Nothing that he foresaw any problems with but then again—you never knew. It was the one thing he could honestly saw about being a professor here. It was unpredictable. You never really quite knew what was going to happen in a particular class. You had your ideas—and knew who to watch out for – but really? You could never really and truly saw. It made for an interesting day and an interesting job to be sure.
Zach took a few deep breaths as he sat at the desk that was at the head of the class—his eyes closed and look peaceful almost (though by no means was he oblivious to what was going on around him). For all the flexibility that he prided himself with—there was one routine that he kept pretty tightly. It was to meditate for a good ten minutes before each class started. That way he could clear his admittedly troubled mind (there was a lot he thought about every day and every once in a while it got overwhelming but he refused to let that get in the way of his job—flat out refused) and get ready for the class at hand…which was important for all classes but especially for the seventh years who were going to be graduating soon and they needed to know this and be good at it. Mediation was an admittedly strange thing—something he had learned after helping the muggle studies professor with their research. But hey—it worked for him. He wasn’t going to be complaining at all.
A few moments later and he opened his eyes and feeling calmer then he had and less stressed—he waved his wand towards the blackboard…the words appearing in his normal thin scrawl,
’N.E.W.T. Charms Class. Review and practice. This is the time to let me know if you are having any trouble.’
He nodded as he looked at the board. Practice. That was the name of the game for today. And now all he had to do was wait for the students to get here. Hopefully no one would be late. Today was not the day for it – but somehow he knew better than to hold his breath for that one…

Maryn really was never one to be late, but it had been a long week so far, for her. She had been late to several of her classes, especially transfiguration, which was easily her best subject. She hadn't gone to Defense Against the Dark Arts at all but she had sent a letter to Professor Grey wondering if there was some way they could go over what had been taught in class that day. She was now determined not to be late to any of her other classes. But right now she was on the third floor walking towards the classroom where her charms class was held. She passed by many people as she walked down the corridor. Some even tried to get her to stop and talk, but she didn't want to. Maryn didn't even know them, she had never talked to any of them before. That was easy to explain as to why not. She was simply a shy person and mostly kept to herself. Granted she still had several friends.
Maryn walked into the classroom and noticed Professor Eielson sitting at his desk at the front of the room. She walked over to a desk that was in the middle of the classroom and sat down. "Morning Professor." She greeted before she looked over to the chalk board to see what they would be doing today. ’N.E.W.T. Charms Class. Review and practice. This is the time to let me know if you are having any trouble.’ That was perfect and she already had a certain spell in mind that she just wanted to practice a little, since she still didn't have it down to how she wanted it. As she sat there and waited for class to begin she thought about how the day had been so far. Nothing exciting had happened yet, but that could change since she was now in charms, which was always fun but it never was as fun as transfiguration.

Ronan walked into the charms classroom, almost bouncing on the balls of his feet. To say he was excited was an understatement. Charms was by far one of his favorite subjects and he always looked forward to the class. He had learned many charms spells from his dad who was always good at the subject and apparently Ronan had developed a talent for it as well. He had always been able to cast any charms spell non-verbally. "How's it going Professor?" Ronan Asked as he walked over to where Maryn was sitting. They had become friends during fifth year, after a quidditch match, but he had yet to talk to her since being back at school.
"Morning, Maryn." Ronan said as he sat down next to her. He casually flicked his wrist and his wand came out of it's holster, and into his hand. He was kind of thirsty. So he quickly conjured a glass and then he paused while he debated on what he wanted to drink. 'Rum sounds good right now' It really did sound good but then he thought back to the last time he had tried to get away with drinking rum in charms class. The professor had caught him and gave him detention for it and had said something about Ronan getting drunk in his class. Ronan sighed and then pointed his wand at the cup and it filled with pumpkin juice. He picked it up and drank some before he turned around in his seat to see if anyone else was there yet. No one else was there yet, which Ronan found kind of odd since most everyone was usually early to class. He turned back towards the front and read what was on the chalkboard. So they were going be doing review and practicing today. Once he had read that Ronan smirked and wondered if there would be time to practice any of the knew spells that he had learned from his dad over the summer.

Carcer rather enjoyed Charms. It didn’t compare to Transfiguration, he wasn’t able to modify charms through intuition like he could change Transfiguration spells, but it was a fun and useful class of magic without a doubt. And Carcer loved to learn. He hated to memorize, which was why he hated History of Magic and was iffy on Potions, but practical magic, magic he could use and innovate, that was where he was in his element. Well…that and anything outdoors. Carcer wondered sometimes where his life was going, with him having the skills to work for the Ministry and the mindset to go live with the dragon colonies in Romania. It was a bit…polar, he supposed, but he loved plants and animals, and he loved to learn.
And that was why he was smiling as he ducked into the classroom. Professor Eielson was one of his preferred professors, the calm Head of Ravenclaw always willing to help when needed and always seeming to have an answer. He noted the chalkboard mentioning that this was a review class—well, that made it an easy class for him then. Carcer made it a point to work at spells he didn’t get until he did get them, so a review class was wasted on him just after returning to school from the holiday. Not that he minded, really, it was good in his mind to have a professor that made sure nobody got left behind. He nodded to the professor and then grinned at the others already in the room. “Professor. Maryn. Finnigan.” He clapped the Gryffindor on the back as he passed by him, careful not to apply bone-breaking force to the gesture, before Engorging a chair and a desk in the very back for him to sit at. He knew Maryn fairly well, being in the same House and year as her, and Ronan was a good friend, someone Carcer considered one of the only people in the school who could ask him to do something stupid or dangerous and he’d agree without needing an explanation.
He sat down at the desk and stretched for a moment, pulling out his Charms book and flipping through it, looking for a new spell to try out…

Alice was determined to be one of the first few to class today if only for one reason: to beat James there.
James' sudden "thing" or whatever he had with that Ravenclaw girl had gotten on Alice's nerves. First with Ronan's pointing out Aurora Lestrange to James in Defense Against the Dark Arts, then James sitting next to her in Transfiguration. Alice had never before been so weirdly angered by James in her life. She wanted to smack him upside the head and knock some sense into him. She was a Ravenclaw. Worse yet, she was a Lestrange. What exactly was James thinking, trying to pursue her? James had always been the Hogwarts Cassanova, swooning girls left and right, but he had never gone after many Slytherins or people like that. And as far as Alice was considered, Aurora Lestrange was a person he should avoid.
While Alice was upset with James, if he came up to her and had sat with her in class today, she would more than likely act like nothing was wrong. But Alice didn't quite feel like sitting next to James today, so to avoid any sort of awkward interaction with him, she decided she would get to class early and sit with whoever was there and engage herself in a deep conversation with them so that James wouldn't have the chance to speak to her.
Alice walked right into the Charms room, glancing around for a seat. So far, she had liked everyone in the room. Ronan and she were friends because of James, so she figured because of that she wouldn't sit with him. She glanced over to Maryn, whom she didn't know that well and kind of felt awkward just going up to and striking up a conversation. That left Carcer, who sat at the back of the room in a larger chair and desk that he had obviously modified to fit himself. With a slight tilt of her head to the side, Alice decided she would sit near Carcer. However, because Alice was much smaller than Carcer, she figured she would sit in the desk to his right in the corner of the room, so she wouldn't be sitting at a large desk that was much too big for her.
With a sigh, Alice set her bag down on the floor next to the chair and looked up at the Professor and what was written on the board. Today would be easy enough. Alice liked charms, for they were fairly simple for the Hufflepuff. She sat herself down at the desk finally and just gave Carcer a small smile and a shrug as a "good morning." Maybe Alice wasn't feeling up to conversation after all.

elodie burst into the charms classroom, hair in a hasty bun, an indication of her usual habit of sleeping in as she would only put her hair up so messily if she was in a rush, and hadn’t the chance to do it properly. still, she did remark that she could rock the messy look. but such a dramatic entrance to class was comical. once her face scanned the class and she realised that she wasn’t late, her face flushed scarlet as her gryffindor scarf, and she shrunk slightly, trying to make herself as unnoticeable as possible after that embarrassing moment. she was glad that she wasn’t the first to arrive this time, as now she didn’t have to sit by herself while waiting for her friends to arrive. she passed ronan at the front of the classroom with a smile, and proceeded to sit up the back with alice and carcer, giving a brief wave to maryn from hufflepuff as she went. though as she sat down next to alice, she felt that the aura surrounding her friend was simply… off. ”morning, al,” she said to her friend, her voice cheerful, if not a little over done. then she, looked to carcer. ”morning, carcer,” she said a little more forced, giving him a meaningful look and gestured to alice subtly, trying to communicate to him that something was wrong nonverbally. she didn’t want to make a big deal about it – alice was probably one of her least dramatic friends and wouldn’t want to be made into a scene, but at the same time, elodie didn’t want her friend to be grumpy. and, after all, maybe elodie had read the vibes wrong. she reassured herself that she was just overthinking things, and hoping that she was right. tagged: charms class! words: 297 outfit: ( link) notes: (n/a) |

Charms! It had always been his favorite class throughout the entire time he had spent at Hogwarts so far, that and Defense against the Dark Arts, they were his favorite classes and he liked both of the Professors for each of the classes. Part of the reason he had been picked for Head boy was because he kept with his academics despite being in Quidditch, and always at the top of the class with the rest of the other excelling students. Making his way out of the of the Ravenclaw common room he traveled down from the fifth floor to the Charms classroom that was on the third floor. Usually he was in a good mood going to Charms class; today he was not in a good mood. Rather he was gloomy, angry, and terrified all at the same time. The other day he had gotten called into the Headmaster’s office not to speak about student body stuff or Head Boy stuff either, no something much more dark, his grandfather Ian Owens. Otherwise known as one of the most deranged and physco killers currently in Azkaban, or at least that what the Headmaster had said to Sean as he explained why he called him in their. Apparently Grandpa Owens felt he needed to see his grandson, to apologize for what he had done. Apologize, for having one of his friends nearly kill me! Or how about killing my parents, my mum! His own daughter the thoughts roared into Sean’s head as he finally reached the door to Charms.
Taking a deep breath in and then out he pushed the angry thoughts out and tried to put on a happy face, but it was obvious that it was a fake smile, and that he truly was not feeling today at all. It’s his mind games, look he’s got you off your game. Get it together! thought Sean as he walked into the classroom and glanced around at who was present, no other Ravenclaws but some Gryffindors that he knew and he got along with. Normally, Sean would sit near people being his social butterfly and he would be planning on a prank on the Professor, but today with everything going through his mind he was going to sit alone, or try to at least. He nodded at the other students, not trying to be rude, but he didn’t want to talk so he made his way over to a desk near the front sort of but away from the others, like he was some diseased sort of Slytherin. ”Morning Professor” said Sean, weakly as he gave a weak smile to the Professor, before glancing at the board and seeing they were doing reviews. He took out his Charms book and started to go through it and tried to focus on the page, pretending like he was reading a charm, as his mind battled back the thoughts of his grandfather and that terrible place Azkaban.

Charms was one of Joanna's favorite classes, third to History of Magic and Transfiguration. It was such a fascinating subject--who wouldn't be interested in those fancy incantations that made life so much easier and effortless? She could to learn how to summon objects toward her or to push them away, all with the flick of her wand. And the importance of the class was elevated, what with the NEWT coming up.
She walked casually to the classroom, clutching her books and supplies against her chest. She was wondering where her twin sister, Rosalie was. Perhaps Rosalie was already in the classroom? If not her Gryffindor sister was probably in the back of the crowd of students walking to the class. Either way, Joanna hoped that she could sit next to Rosie, as she usually did in classes.
When Joanna stepped into the classroom, she frowned, for she saw no Rosie yet. Oh well, it wasn't like it was the end of the world. The girl turned her heard to face Professor Eielson. "Good morning, Professor! Ready to take us on?" she said playfully with a smile on her face. "We're a hard lot, aren't we."
She turned around and moved toward a desk in the second row, where she placed her books, quill, and ink bottle down on the table and slid into the seat. She began to tap her fingers against the desk, waiting impatiently for Rosie to apparate from somewhere. She didn't fancy the thought of Rosie being late for class.

Charms
seventh years Charms was a fairly decent class to Emrys. There were many of the incantations taught in Charms that have been effectively used in combat in the past. Well, Charms class never taught real combat spells that you would learn in Defense Against the Dark Arts or dueling clubs, but charms did come in handy. If you were clever enough, you could make them work for you and against your opponent.
Emrys entered the classroom, holding her books and supplies against her. It seemed like the only way to hold all that stuff together unless you levitated them in front o you using wingardium leviosa, although Emrys was just fine with holding them with her own hands. They weren't too much of a burden that she would begin dropping them on the floor, thankfully.
The girl turned toward the professor. "Professor," she greeted him in a stately manner and nodded stiffly at him. She then turned around and began to make her way toward the third row of desks. However, when she passed Sean, she cast the Ravenclaw a cold downward glance from the corner of her eye. She thought that it was immensely unfair that she was being forced to learn in the same school, let alone classroom, with the grandson of the heretic who had ruined her family. He might look like a good guy but he still had cruel blood running through his veins, and she didn't trust him.
But for seven years now, she had already learned to put up with Owens' presence near hers. Therefore, she did not make a fuss about him, but instead concentrated upon class. The girl sat down at a desk in the third row and put her books and supplies down on it, waiting for class to begin just as everyone else was doing.

Desi skipped into the classroom with a great big smile. She winked at the Professor, and immediately made her way to Joanna Shacklebolt, sitting beside her with a happy smile and no books, quills or parchment at all. She brought her wand out and being twirling in in her fingers, Joanna! How are you?" she asked with mock enthusiasm. Truthfully the girl didn't really bother her, but Desi couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of the girls ridiculous father. Correction, her ridiculous dead father.
Desi looked around and cocked an eyebrow at the scene. Some cute little hufflepuffs in the back, Ronan the cute Gryffindor was chatting with Maryn the Huffle Quidditch captain. After a few moments however, Desi got bored with the crowd. She tapped her foot hoping that Elaine would show up soon. Class was no fun without her bestie to reek havoc with throughout the school. She looked up to the front row and whistled at Sean, just to get his attention. "Hey, Owens. Way to show up on time," she chuckled. It really wasn't her best work but she was just. so. bored.

It had been a quick breakfast of toast and jam because today Sam had slept in a little later than he had expected. It made it so that he skipped out on some of his general routines for every morning. These routines consisting of a nice helping of breakfast (it is the most important meal of the day. It really gets the brain flowing when you get a good meal, he lived by this motto.), followed soon by a quick review session before his morning classes. He liked to know he had a specific idea of what every lesson was going to be about before it happened. This helped to let him clarify that he truly understood what the Professor was talking about. Granted, even if he didn't just hearing something said once, or reading about it, everything stuck inside his photogenic memory capsule. He just preferred to understand what he was doing, grasp the concepts, because having knowledge was one thing, but being able to 'do' was another.
Charms had always been one of those classes that seemingly came easy for Sam Davis. Some classes often posed a small issue with him like that of Defense against the Dark Arts and Potions. These two classes he could read and understand, help others to understand, but when it came to actually performing he seemed to struggle more than other students. Of course, Sam puts in a lot of work to those classes he struggles with, and always manages to pull a fantastic grade at the end of term. It just doesn't come as naturally as say Charms does for him. With Charms even the spells came so easily to him that he didn't have to spend much time with it.
He had no worries walking or rather sneaking into class today, no worries at all. Looking at the board he assumed today would be one of those easy days. He had no questions, and even if he did he would answer it on his own. Never in his life had he raised his hand to ask any questions, because he'd get uncomfortable knowing eyes would fall upon him. Sitting all the way in the back corner of the class room he took out his Charms notes, and skimmed through them. He really did understand the material quite well, but it never hurt to go over items. He did prefer to perfect everything after all. He also knew some students didn't grasp everything as easily as Sam did, and it was a great idea for the Professor to have a day like today.

Joanna frowned noticeably when Desirae took the seat next to her. If she didn't force herself to exercise some control over herself, she would've been scowling. That was Joanna--she was totally blunt and blatant about how she felt and was not you're best at masking her emotions. She wished that she could banish her housemate to the back of the class, or just anywhere that was not beside her. Although it would be nice to group her with Alice, since the two of them were both female snakes. Well, to Joanna, they were.
Desirae was never blatant with her meanness, though. No, Joanna thought with irritation, she was probably too clever for that. Most of her mockery was coated with sugar. People were easily deceived by her. But Joanna could somehow sense that something wasn't right between them. It seemed that she could see the snide attitude under that sweetness.
Joanna looked at Desi with a rather contemptuous look when she saw that the other girl hadn't brought along any of her books and supplies. When the other girl feigned pleasantness when she asked Joanna how she was doing, the Shacklebolt scoffed and lifted her chin. She was not going to pretend to not notice the sarcasm. "I was doing perfectly fine a minute ago, but now I'm not so sure," she said with equal sarcasm before looking away and trying with all of her might to focus her attention on the professor. Suddenly his face became so attractive that she had to stare at it rigidly without trying to notice anything else. She didn't trust herself to pay attention to the girl beside her. She knew how overboard she could get when she was upset, and that was not the smartest thing to do in the middle of Charms class.

Charms! Whoopee! Holly liked Charms class. It seemed that every time they entered the classroom, they learned a quirky spell that truly did put their wands into use. They learned real magic. Who wouldn't consider summoning an object toward you like a magnet by just pointing your wand at it magic? Or shooting out water with the tip of your wand? Charms made her feel like a witch, unlike Astronomy or History of Magic. That wasn't to say she didn't see the importance of those classes, but they didn't involve incantations and spells, and wizards and witches lived on spells.
Holly walked into the classroom, and instead of holding her books and supplies against herself, she actually had a leather satchel to place those in so she wouldn't be dropping them here and there. Her father Charlie had printed the image of a dragon on it, knowing how much she loved dragons (and was even aspiring to be a dragonologist, too). It was slung around her shoulder, so therefore she had a free hand to wave to the professor. "Good morning to you, Professor Eielson!" she greeted him amiably. Holly's idol was Santa Clause, so she liked to greet people in the manner that Santa did. In fact, she wished she could say "Merry Christmas!" and "Ho ho ho!", but she knew how weird that would be to others, so she contained herself.
Holly wasn't picky about where she sat, so she randomly made her way toward a seat in the second row of desks, plopped down on an empty one, slid the satchel off of her shoulder, and placed it beside her desk on the floor. She was waiting eagerly for the class to begin so that she could learn another awesome incantation, and practice doing it to perfection.

Elaine was the next to waltz into the third floor classroom. Her cool and calm exterior hiding the inner panic she had flowing through her body at the mere thought of being late to class. Late?! Hah! As if! She was never late! Had never been late to a class before in her life and she wasn't about to start now. She had simply managed to loose herself in a spell book and before she knew it--class as nearly upon her.
But she was not late. She had managed to get here on time...of course she did...though there was a lot of others already here. But alas it mattered not. She was here and that was that. She saw the others about and simply just shook her head. There was of course Ronan here--who still pissed her off to no end by showing her up in Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Then there were several other Gryffndors (who of course just made her go ugh at them) and then there was Sam (she only knew his name because she had heard it being said toward him..other then that he was a quiet mouse which was an okay thing) and then Joanna (who Elaine had to exercise good self control over so that she didn't goad the other whose father had died under such 'mysterious' circumstances) and several others who she cared little for (and they probably cared just as little for her) and of course her friend in crime Desirae. The other was sitting next to Joanna and Elaine knew she wasn't really concerned with how the other was in light of her father's murder. But Elaine wasn't going to ruin the other's fun of course. She said nothing as she sat down on the other side of the Ravenclaw.
She looked up at the blackboard with a soft hmmm type of noise. A review day eh? She could handle that. She suddenly saw the professor eyeballing her in a suspicious manner and she unapologetically glared right back at him. She always felt like this professor was keeping an eye on her because he maybe had suspicions of her being the one responsible for the murderous going ons. Thankfully he hadn't stuck his nose into anything as of yet. And so she had no reason to try and get rid of him. Besides--from what she had heard...he was pureblood. And any pureblood deserved a second chance to see things the right way--the true way. It was only a few seconds before the professor turned away as he clearly heard someone or something else and Elaine huffed softly as she gathered her books and things from her bag and waited for class to get started already....muscles still tense and face a little tight....

Ethan was afraid he was going to be late to Charms and tore down the hall until he was in the classroom. He wasn't late, so that was good. He tried to catch his breath and spotted Ronan and Maryn sitting together, in his hurry he rushed over to sit by them. Then he realized he didn't see his best bud Sean as he came in. He glanced around and found him sitting off by himself. He didn't look as social and excitable as he usually was. Ethan contemplated whether or not he should move over there, "Hey Mar, Ronan. Do you guys know if Sean is okay?" he gestured to his friend in the corner.
Truthfully, Ethan was in a pretty good mood and he didn't know if that would annoy his buddy at the moment. He decided to let it be fore now, but he would certainly catch Sean after class and make sure that he was okay. It wasn't like him to walk into a class full of friends and sit alone. Though, even Sean the Head boy was allowed to have bad days. Ethan glanced around, making eye contact with those he knew. He avoided Elaines eyes and saw Desi twiddle her fingers in his direction, but he tried to avoid her gaze too. Those girls were just plain nasty to muggle borns. He wanted to acknowledge Joanna, a killer beater on his team and good friend, but he she was too close to Elaine and Desi, he just figured he'd talk with her later.
