Odette had been trying harder than usual to distract herself. The news that she had four half siblings, two brothers and two sisters, had come as a shock to Odette. Especially since all but one shared that same last name she did. Odette did it by choice, to lure Fenrir to her in hopes of one day killing him... but after speaking to Jamie, Odette was worried that he would instead get to one of them first. Odette promised herself she would not get attached or speak to them or try not to care but... they were kids. While that should have been more of an incentive for her to stay away from them, she couldn't help but feel a sort of protectiveness over them especially since she had heard what had happened at Hogwarts...
So, Odette was in Hogsmeade buying things for her grandparents again. Liliana was busy out on a separate mission from her, Jacob was busy with his own job, and Odette knew better than to bother Royal, Teddy, or Victoire with her petty problems and attention needing. So the Curse Breaker was wandering around the village by herself. She had just left the post office after mailing off her presents for her grandparents when she felt a rumbling in her stomach... she was hungry. She thought the best idea was perhaps to visit the Hog's Head so that was where she headed. Though as she made her way down the path of the village, she noticed it was getting a lot more busy... which meant one thing. A Hogsmeade weekend.
Odette felt oddly insecure suddenly, and even a little frightened... frightened at the possibility of having to face one of her younger siblings. She oddly got on fairly well with Aaron, and Odette felt that had something to do with the fact that they didn't share a last name. The others? Odette wasn't sure how to properly express her feelings toward them. She felt Adrian wasn't going to be an issue, as he seemed to be a lot like her... not wanting to face her, she hadn't met Max yet, and Jamie... well, Jamie was too much emotion for Odette to handle. And she was probably the one Odette was fearing running into the most.
@jamie Shall this take place right before the Ohana thread? The one where Odette tells her you know what Up to you

It had already been a really long day, and Jamie felt like it was just getting started. She had had lunch with Max and had to help Hugo with the aftermath of a horrible vision, and she still hadn’t gotten to visit Zonko’s. She still needed to get some Hiccoughing Sweets, since last time…well, no one needed to think about Odette, right? She had other sisters to worry about, ones that actually wanted to be her sister, instead of the emotionally-detached robo-sister that Odette was. Jamie knew that a lot of the animosity she held towards Odette was because of one meeting, and it probably wasn’t fair to keep using that as an excuse for why she disliked her sister, but Odette didn’t really seem to want to understand Jamie. The Hufflepuff was just an inconvenience, one that came with a load of emotional baggage the size of a small European country and a last name that Odette hated intrinsically.
Jamie was determined not to waste the rest of her day, though. Zonko’s was just around the corner, and when Jamie turned…There was Odette. She didn’t know who was so bent on messing with her, or why, but Jamie was half-tempted to turn around and head back the way she came. She wanted Hiccoughing Sweets, but she wasn’t sure that the emotional trauma that came with any conversation with Odette was worth it. Then again, it would be her last chance to buy them for a while, since most of her summer would be spent in the Muggle world…Jamie straightened her shoulders, looked straight ahead, and continued to walk.
Apparently fate really hated Jamie Greyback, because, like magic, the crowd parted, leaving a clear line of sight from her to her sister, and vice versa. Had it really been too much to hope that she would have been able to slip by, lost in the throng of people, without confrontation. Running away now would be rude, and so would ignoring her sister outright. Jamie was at an impasse. She was sure that she had been seen, and as much as she disliked Odette, the only way things could get better was if they actually spoke to each other instead of avoiding each other like the plague. Jamie took an uncertain step forward, and then another, until she was standing in front of her sister. Swallowing hard, Jamie planted her feet onto the cobbles in the street. “Hello.”

Odette was hell bent on parting through the crowd with her arms and elbows when a head of blonde hair caught her eye. Almost instantly, Odette stopped dead in her tracks and stared directly at the face of the half-sister she had been dreading running into. For a moment, Odette pondered turning around on her heel and pretending like she never saw her but it was beyond obvious as the two had most definitely made eye contact and to run away would make Odette a coward and that was one thing Odette was not. So, she had no choice but to deal with it as she held her chin slightly higher than normal and looked down at the blonde as she slowly approached her.
Jamie greeted Odette in what sounded like a harsher tone than what she had had with her before. Odette didn't blame her. She had been pretty hard on the girl on their last meeting but Odette felt justified in that right. Jamie had chosen to take on a name because she thought she had no other options. Odette chose the Greyback name to attract the man who had killed her mother because he had run out of options when it came to running around and impregnanting all these women. If Odette met one more half-sibling on this man's part, she would likely lose her head.
"Nice to see you again," Odette pursed her lips and wore a blank face. She did not want any sort of emotion pouring out of her face for she felt that if she did, it would be an emotion she wouldn't want shown... like fear or, Merlin forbid... familial attachment.

It seemed that the dislike that Jamie harbored for Odette was mutual. At the least, Odette was neutral towards Jamie. At the most, she hated her. That was oddly okay with the Hufflepuff girl. Normally being disliked made her uncomfortable; it seemed that everyone expected members of her house to be liked by everyone. Yes, they were loyal and patient and whatever else, but they were only humans, and they had flaws. Jamie knew she definitely had a few flaws of her own, and she wouldn’t put it past someone like Odette to list out every one of them. Since there was no lost love between them, Jamie didn’t have to pretend to like her half-sister.
The way Odette emphasized you made it clear that, despite her words, the sentiment was not meant to be a good one. “I could say the same of you.” Jamie said, hoping she sounded braver than she felt. Having a conversation with Odette felt like going to war. Jamie didn’t know what she was battling for (or against), or why she felt so strongly about it, but it was the principle of the thing that kept her going more than anything. If she gave up now and was perfectly pleasant to her half-sister, then Odette might get the idea that Jamie could be pushed around. Maybe she was overemotional and maybe she was sensitive, but she wasn’t a pushover. She wouldn’t lie down and let Odette walk all over her. Jamie had made that promise to herself the day she learned she was her father’s daughter. It wasn’t the easiest promise to keep.
“What brings you here today?” Jamie asked, unsure why her voice sounded like a challenge. She was honestly curious why Odette had ventured into Hogsmeade, especially since she had been avoiding contact with Jamie, and it was known that Hogwarts students were permitted to go into the village. It just seemed illogical, and Jamie wanted to make sense of it.

Odette really had no interest in building a relationship with her half-sister, or any of her siblings for that matter. The fact that she was friendly with Aaron... that was an accident. He was a good guy. She didn't doubt that Jamie was good, but... she just could not afford to get any sort of attached to someone who shared the last name Greyback. It was baggage and Jamie was potential damage that could get in the way between Odette and Fenrir and if anything ever happened to her because of Fenrir... well, Odette already had a good enough reason to kill him. She didn't want another.
The curse breaker could not help but roll her eyes at the blonde's question. Why was she even talking to her? Why was Odette engaging? She let out a deep sigh and fixed her eyes on girl, her brow forming a straight and unemotional line. "Errands," she replied simply. It wasn't any of her business why Odette was there. And Odette didn't feel comfortable mentioning her grandparents to Jamie. Her grandparents had been safe from Greyback for this long and she wanted to keep it that way. "You? Don't you have... school or something?" It was a question loaded with the tone of someone who could not care less. Odette already knew the answer anyway. Hogsmeade weekends were common for students.

Jamie didn’t understand Odette, and that was frustrating. Her half-sister made it seem so easy just to ignore the world and anything that made her feel anything, and Jamie couldn’t do that. She felt too much. Some people would class that as a strength, but Jamie saw it as a weakness. Odette rolling her eyes sent a little punch of pain to the Hufflepuff’s stomach. It was only a little one because, in the short amount of time since she had met her sister, Jamie had come to expect this kind of behavior. It kind of stunk.
She just nodded when her sister said she was out running errands. Fine. If Odette wanted to be that way, then Jamie couldn’t fix that. At the mention of school, though, Jamie couldn’t help but give Odette a taste of her own medicine. “Yes, I do have school. It’s right over there.” Jamie said blandly, pointing towards the school. “I came to the village to have fun. Not that that’s anything you’d know about.” The younger girl added. “I also needed to start asking around about how to get Wolfsbane over break.” It was proving to be more complicated than she thought it would be, but Jamie was almost certain that she was going to make a deal with an apothecary in Diagon Alley. “But of course you wouldn’t want to hear about that, since you hate every werewolf you meet.” That wasn’t a fair comment – Odette liked Aaron, so she just hated every werewolf she met except for one. It was still not a good excuse when you were one of the unlucky ones.

Growing up an only child and having closing herself off to others (aside from Liliana) after her other friends had graduated, Odette had become callous to attachments. However, finding out she really did have siblings this entire time stirred something within her. She felt responsible for them even though she had no reason to, and she felt protective of them even though she treated Adrian as if he didn't exist and Jamie just so badly. Although she didn't show it, it actually took a great deal for her to not show how much it bothered her to treat Jamie this way. But she had to. She could not let anyone get in harm's way if Fenrir were to come around. He had hurt too many people. The best thing to do was to push them away.
When Jamie seemed to strike up a sort of attitude with her smart-alec comment, Odette narrowed her eyes angrily at the blonde. Odette had never been fond of kids who were smart-asses. Odette just glared at the girl as she explained what she, too, was doing in the village. Wolfsbane? The girl needed wolfsbane? Odette wondered for a moment why the school wouldn't supply that to her over the summer. That seemed a little stupid to Odette. Then Jamie had the nerve to say Odette 'hated every werewolf she met' and Odette couldn't let that one slide.
"You don't know anything about me," Odette said, waving a hand dismissively at the girl. Who did this kid think she was, thinking she could say that about Odette? For all Jamie knew, her best friend could have been a werewolf! Odette wasn't prejudice against werewolves at all. She only had it out for one and one only. The fact that Jamie thought that made Odette particularly upset but she really wasn't in the mood for getting into another argument with this girl...

Jamie hated being treated like a child. She hated the way Odette was always hand-waving her or lecturing her or otherwise making her feel like she was insignificant. She already did enough of that to herself, and she didn’t need someone else making her feel small. Yet still Jamie stood, looking the woman who was supposed to be her sister in the eyes. “Gee, I wonder why I don’t know anything about you. Could it be that because every time we speak to each other, you end up insulting me?” Jamie asked in a voice that made it obvious she already knew the answer. “Nah, that couldn’t be possible, because Odette Greyback would never admit to having a sister, let alone talking to one.” Jamie was tired, and she just wanted to go home, but something was forcing her to stay where she was and keep on talking, even though she could watch the hole she was digging herself get deeper.
“And God forbid that sister be Jamie Greyback, that stupid little Hufflepuff girl. God forbid that Odette Greyback, the queen of the world and everything in it, share twenty five percent of her DNA with someone as loathsome as Jamie.” All of a sudden her own name was an insult, and the Hufflepuff’s hands began to shake with how absolutely furious she was. If Odette didn’t hate werewolves, what reason did she have for avoiding Jamie like the plague? The Hufflepuff had struggled so long to accept that she was Fenrir’s daughter, and as soon as she found someone else who shared that, and they wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. She understood being angry about the Muggle comment, but even if she apologized, Jamie got the impression that Odette would still want nothing to do with her. Being someone’s sister wasn’t as hard as it seemed once you started, so why was Odette holding out?

Odette never would have thought she would have siblings. Truthfully, she never even once thought "what if this has happened to other people." No, she was far too caught up in her own life and focusing on her career and Greyback took a back seat to that. Changing her name had been a last ditch effort to lure him to her. Never in a million years would she have thought that she had to share this burden with other human beings. At first, she was totally against the idea of having half-siblings with this man. But then when she got to know Aaron a little bit more, she realized that she wanted to protect them. She didn't want Fenrir coming and hurting them. And if that meant shrugging them off and denying her relation to them then so be it.
The brunette just stood there as the girl spoke to her, clearly sarcastic. Her expression was blank as she took in Jamie's words but she heard every bit. She crossed her arms. Odette had no reason to deny or justify the things Jamie was saying so she continued to be silent. That is, until Jamie began to use her own name as some sort of insult, it seemed. At this, Odette let out a sort of scoffed laugh. "Please," she said, her brow furrowing and her eyes narrowing at Jamie. "Get a hold of yourself. You are so over the top dramatic." She said coldly to the girl. For a second, Odette almost wished that Jamie was more quiet like Adrian. At least this sort of thing would never happen with him.

The more Odette ignored her, the more Jamie wanted to scream. Why wouldn’t her older sister just look at her!? Sure, Odette was looking in her direction, but she wasn’t looking at Jamie – she was looking clear on through her and to the other side of the street. What did she have to do to get Odette to see her? Jamie didn’t care if she was being melodramatic or if she needed to get a hold of herself – if it was what it took to get Odette to stay a couple seconds longer, than Jamie would do it. All she wanted was an older sister. It had seemed too much to ask when she was younger, but after all of Fenrir’s affairs had come to light and she actually was bound to someone by blood, it didn’t seem to Jamie like she was being too unreasonable by asking Odette to be her sister. They had to start somewhere, and it seemed like every time Jamie tried, everything just crumbled around her, like a house built on pillars of sand.
“Oh, now I’m the dramatic one?” Miss make-her-sister-cry-in-a-joke-shop thought that Jamie was being overdramatic. Wow. “Sorry that the only way to get you to so much as breathe in my direction is to make a scene!” The Hufflepuff cursed internally. She hadn’t meant to reveal exactly why she had been so ornery towards Odette, especially because her sister would likely call her childish or immature. “Maybe for my next stunt I’ll turn into a werewolf in front of you, huh? Oh, wait, I remember now – you’re ashamed of me because I was born a monster. Sorry that not all of us won the genetic lotto like you.” It wasn’t fair, Jamie thought, but maybe it would be enough to get a rise out of Odette. Maybe her sister would finally look at her.

Odette had never asked for any of this. She had never asked for siblings, never asked for a family, and certainly had never wanted anything to further remind her of her ties to that monster that killed her mother out of pure anger. Jamie infuriated her for the simple reason that she just couldn't take a hint. Odette didn't know how much more obvious she could make her distaste with the girl. Jamie repeated what Odette had just called her, sarcastically of course, and she had some excuse. So the only way to get her attention was for her to make a scene? Well if a scene was what Jamie wanted, a scene would be what Jamie gets.
The Curse Breaker raised a finger at the blonde and opened her mouth to yell back at the girl but the words that came flying out of Jamie's mouth stopped her. Odette froze, her mouth falling open slightly and her eyebrows raising. She folded her arms across her chest then and remarkably enough, a sarcastic laugh left her lips. "Born?" She repeated aloud, looking at Jamie incredulously but with a look of cruel entertainment. "You actually think you were born a werewolf?"

Jamie felt cold. She was freezing, actually. She had known that Odette didn't like her. The Hufflepuff was still working on accepting that fact, but she had known for a long time that her older half-sister wasn't much into the whole family thing. Jamie had never expected, though, for Odette to be downright cruel, with the laugh and the look and the words, and that was why she was cold. Nothing was making sense - it was possible to be born a werewolf. Her mother had said so! So why, then, was Odette acting like Jamie was stupid for thinking that.
"Of course I was." Jamie said, though her voice betrayed her uncertainty with the situation. Was there an alternative? Had her mother lied to her? Jamie wasn't sure she wanted to know.

There was no way that this girl actually believed that she was born a werewolf. There just couldn't be! She was almost seventeen, for Merlin's sake! Did Hogwarts not teach people anything anymore!? For a moment, Odette let herself wonder who on Earth could have filled Jamie's head with such nonsense. Surely it wasn't Aaron, he would know better. And Odette highly doubted that a professor would have told her that too, but why would they have let her think that for so long? Odette almost felt sorry for her. Almost.
With her arms still folded across her chest, Odette raised an eyebrow and looked at Jamie with a very expectant smirk. "You do realize that it's impossible to be born a werewolf, right?" She asked, speaking very slowly so as to let the information sink in. Odette had no idea why the poor girl's attitude made her so hellbent on tearing her down. It seemed as if every time Jamie tried to get through to her, Odette retaliated in the worst way. She just wasn't cut out for relationships like this.

It was impossible to be born a werewolf. Jamie stood still for a moment, letting that information wash over her. She could hear her own heartbeat thundering in her ears, and before she knew it, Jamie was running. She was running through the crowd, darting between people and trying her best not to shove them as she tried to put as much space between her and Odette as possible. Somewhere between there and the path back to the castle, tears had begun to stream down Jamie’s face, and she buried her nose into her cloak to try to hide her expression from anyone that might be passing by. She didn’t need the entire school to see her crying, especially not after the year she’d had. Humiliation was almost to be expected anymore, but trying to delay it was a valiant purpose, at least in Jamie’s mind. The mixture of emotions that churned in her stomach couldn’t be separated into anything resembling feelings that had a matching word, and Jamie didn’t try to make sense of them. She just wanted to get back to her dormitory and sleep forever.

Odette really didn't know what she should have expected. When Jamie didn't respond and just turned around and started running away, it left Odette with her mouth slightly agape in shock. She had at least thought that Jamie would fight back or say something else to negate her and tell Odette she was wrong but... she didn't. Odette had a sinking feeling in her stomach now that she had just ruined a part of Jamie's life and while Odette could pretend not to care all she wanted... Jamie was still her sister.
