@lysander @alice The trip to America had been uneventful so far, but they had just barely set up camp. The summer was planned out, though was still very flexible. This trip was for exploration and discovery. That meant that they had to be willing to break from their timeline if they were to thoroughly discover all one area had to offer. Luna was so glad Alice had been able to come on this trip, it would be so great for her to enjoy magizoology in the field. It was one thing to learn about animals in class and another entirely to be in nature with them. Luna much prefered being in nature. Especially if being in nature included her husband, children, and Alice. The tents were set up, a gift from Rolf's grandfather. They were larger on the inside, and fully stocked with all sorts of equipment they might possibly need. Dragon hide clothing, snow clothings, sun block, anti-poison spray, and the like. Ready for anything.

Coming to America hadn’t been the adventure that Lysander had thought it would be. So far there were no Crumple Horned Snorkacks or unicorn stampedes or dragon sightings – just a lot of bugs. He had hope, though; if they were going to be there the whole summer, the odds of them not seeing anything were near impossible. Besides, when there wasn’t much to observe, he got to spend more time with his family and Alice. Lysander had already delivered a rousing speech on the medicinal uses of unicorn hair and the medical field’s detrimental effect of unicorn population, and was planning on making it a series. Lorcan had been so moved that he had had to close his eyes to take it all in.
Sander was currently penning the sequel to his soliloquy, though it was proving a lot more difficult than he had first anticipated. He had intended to write on the effects of hunting on the behavioral patterns of unicorns, but he had no data whatsoever. He had a series of detailed and well-educated guesses, but all he really wanted was the real thing. He sat outside the tent, quill still poised to write, when he heard a rustling from within the tent, and turned to face it.

To say that Alice was excited was a bit of an understatement. She was beyond ecstatic. The days leading up to their departure, she had hardly slept. She had been doodling and writing away in her creature study journal, jotting down the animals that she hoped to see during their trip to America. Alice was in the tent, just finishing up a letter to Carcer. Her hair was pulled back into a messy and unkempt ponytail that had loose ends sticking out in a few directions. She didn't mind one bit, though. She was far too excited to really pay any mind to her appearance at all.
Finally after sealing the parchment letter shut and tying it off to the owl that they had brought along to keep contact with family, Alice exited the tent and the owl flew out right after her. Surprisingly, Alice was wearing the biggest grin on her face as she placed her hands on her hips and looked down at Lysander who had a quill in his hands. Alice was actually looking forward to talking to him about the things they would see, as he seemed to love animals just as much as she did. She had to admit, as she looked at Aunt Luna now, she was a little jealous that Lorcan and Lysander had grown up with such a pair for parents. Of course, Alice loved her parents dearly, but neither seemed to adore animals as much as she while Aunt Luna nd Rolf were magizoologists. And now, Alice was going to be one too.
"So," Alice let out a breath that felt so relieving and refreshing to her. "What's first?"

@lysander @alice Luna surveyed her small crew, with so many people there was so much more they could see! They could scout of different areas, catalog animals from various angles, and even capture one for study. Of course they would let the poor thing go after a bit, and would treat it well while they had it. But they also needed to study it. And that was always better done up close then from a distance. Alice came out of her tent looking well rested and ready for anything the world could bring. Lysander was writing something, probablly about unicorns. Luna hoped they would see some for his sake. "Today, we start hiking. We are going to make a steady pattern around the camp site in every direction and see what there is here. I haven't been to this part of America in a while and I am certain that we are going to find some magnificent things! Alice, dear, I hope you have your sketch pad ready. While photos are useful, sketches seem to just bring an animal to life." She had seen some muggle "zoologists" study animals and seen their drawings. She had seen Alice's drawings. She herself, had used drawings. Rolf used drawings. Drawings were just a better way to study animals, it le you get much more personal with the beasts. "Alice, since this is your first time with us, would you mind choosing which direction we set out on first?" Luna asked. She was not an authoritative person, but she did know how to take charge when she needed too.

Alice was the one who had been the source of the rustling – her or the owl. Sander put the lid back on his inkpot and laid the empty parchment and sad-looking quill down on the ground near his feet. His mother seemed to be ready to get started with their day, and since Alice had finished whatever she was doing, now seemed to be as good of time as any to put away his things. Sander perked up a bit when his mother said they were going to begin hiking – maybe they’d actually see something that he could write about! Lysander wasn’t particularly picky, so long as he had something to do other than listen to all of the strange colors around him and get bitten by mosquitos. He stashed his writing implements in his tent as quickly as possible, ignoring whatever his mother was saying about bringing sketchbooks. He didn’t have any talent whatsoever at art.
The Ravenclaw boy was none too pleased when his mother offered Alice the chance to choose which direction they were setting out in. Normally that was his job, and he did it well. Besides, there was nothing for him to do now that Alice and his mum were together; they were chummy, and there was no need for him to even be there, other than as a pack mule. Sander frowned a little bit and crossed his arms over his chest, glaring at the air that was straight ahead of him. This trip was supposed to be fun, but he was just a third wheel for his mother and Alice. His father seemed just as enamored with the girl and Lorcan didn’t care about anyone, not even Lysander, so that left him all alone. He certainly hoped they found something, or his mood wouldn’t get anything but fouler.
