Susan laughed as Ed gave her a pleading look; he REALLY didn't like clothes shopping, and wizard robes didn't make his feelings on the subject any better. "Oh alright, hold still a moment," she told him as she reached back behind his neck and checked the tag for his size. She swept away and picked up three new regular black robes, plus both the blue and the green dress robes. "I insist you get both, that way you'll have a selection if a girl that comes across your path that you like tells you her favorite color is blue," she insisted, putting the robes in Ed's arms. They walked up and paid for his purchases, Susan vaguely thinking this was probably the quickest she'd ever visited Madam Malkins. "We should get Potion ingredients next since it's right next door," she said as they exited the shop.
Susan paused and pondered Ed's question. Her thoughts briefly flitted to a few boys she had connected with, then remembered they had graduated. "Not that attend Hogwarts, sadly. If anything I'm sure I can convince my friend Lysander to go with me. He's always fun to be around, so we'd have a good time," she told him finally. They entered the Apothecary and Susan wrinkled her nose. "Eugh, let's get the ingredients and get out Ed," she said, holding her nose.

Edmund grinned when Susan agreed to help him. This was going to be a lot easier than he thought; she was basically a professional when it came to shopping. About a minute after she left, she was back, with black, green and blue robes. He grimaced slightly at the blue one, but nodded once she'd explained. "All right. I guess I can do that," he reluctantly agreed. At least they were done with shopping and he could get out of here. He held the bags as they went next door to the apothecary.
Ed paused when he realized that Susan didn't really have anyone she wanted to go with. He hated balls and didn't want to go at all, but he knew that she loved them. He felt a pang of disappointment for her. "I'm sorry Sus. I'm sure you will have fun with your friend though," he told her, trying to sound more confident than he felt.
When they went in the apothecary, the smell seemed a little worse than normal. Edmund reached up and pinched his nose, nodding to Susan, "Yeah, let's get out of here,"he said. After a second, he decided to just go for it. He released his nose and weaved his way through the crowd to where the basic school supply of ingredients were, grabbing two bunches and rushing back to Susan. "You don't need anything special, do you?" He hoped the answer was no.

Susan was already halfway out the door when Edmund had asked if she needed anything special. "Oh no, no thankfully I am done with Potions for good," she told him, breathing in the fresher air of Diagon Alley as they closed the apothecary door. She had done better than expected on her Potions OWL, but with her dislike of the subject and her tendency to make cauldrons explode, she had made the wise decision to drop the subject in favor of Alchemy, which was taught by her Head of House. "Right, you've got that, you've already got a cauldron unless you melted that one down while I was away," she said with a teasing grin. "I suppose let's go get your books and then we can go over to your Quidditch Supply shop," she said. As they walked past Eyelops Owl Emporium, Susan turned to Ed again. 'I nearly forgot! Do you want to get an owl this year?" she asked him. She had supplied her eagle owl Amelia with a new bag of treats last week. She had a great bond with Amelia, one that she thought Ed could potentially benefit from.

Edmund was glad to be out of the apothecary. Normally the smells in there didn't bother him too much, but today they did and he just didn't want to deal with them. He grinned when Susan said he already had a cauldron, unless he melted his. "Sorry, Sus, but I don't melt cauldrons. I'm actually pretty good at potions, for your information," he teased. He knew it was something she struggled with, but he didn't.
"Sweet!" he said when she mentioned going to Quality Quidditch Supplies. Then he stopped at her next question. "Me get an owl?" he asked, trying to hide the excitement he got at the idea. "Mum said she won't pay for one until next year," he told Susan a moment later, once he remembered that conversation. "Let's just go look at brooms," he mumbled, turning away from the Owl Emporium slowly.

Susan felt a pang of pity for Edmund; she could see that he wanted an owl, but with her and Wil already owning them, their mother had not wanted to purchase one for Ed. "Well remember you're free to borrow Amelia if you need to," she said, giving him a little nudge. It probably didn't help all that much, but at least he knew that she cared. She hoped. "Why don't we go to Quality Quidditch Supplies first? You'll need a few new books with the NEWT coursework coming your way, so it'll be less to carry?" she suggested in an effort to cheer him up. Susan was happy to pretend to be vaguely interested in broomsticks if it meant cheering Edmund up. It really did hurt her heart a little to see him so depressed; she really did need to ask Hannah if he could book a room here for the last week of vacation.

Edmund forced a small smile when Susan tried to cheer him up. Their relationship was different now, in his eyes. She'd gone from being a bossy know-it-all to someone who actually was trying to get to know him and cared about what was going on in his life and he appreciated it. He appreciated the effort she was putting in to be close to him. "Sure, let's go." He started leading the way and as he walked, he had an urge to tell her something that really mattered to him. "Uh, thanks for this," he spoke a little softly, but he was sure she could hear him. "It means a lot to me that you would come and help me with all this." He gave her a real smile and nudged her back, "I guess this means we'll be talking more at school now, huh?" he asked rhetorically. Whatever happened now, Edmund was going to try and keep up this relationship with his older sister. She'd made an effort for him, so he would do it back for her. @susanvictoria --The end-- (unless you want to add something)
