Petar was no Severus Snape. He was not extremely hard on his students, but he also wasn't as leniant as Horace Slughorn had once been. Petar liked to believe he was right where he needed to be, making him perhaps one of the more difficult teachers at Hogwarts. If he was like Snape in any way, it was in his dislike for Gryffindors and more of a favoritism toward Slytherins. But this year is his first year teaching, so many students have not yet figured that out unless they have had a run in with him in the halls. One thing can be said about Kovachev, however: he hates blood supremacy and those that preach it. He will not tolerate any sort of treatment from Slytherins to other students, and they will most likely find themselves in detention or losing a considerable amount of house points if he catches them muttering any sort of hate.
For his seventh years, Petar was hoping they had covered all of the necessary sixth year coursework enough to be able to work with today's lesson of sixth year review. Always a practical man who didn't like to rely on magic, Petar went up to the board and simply wrote REVIEW in all caps. This, he hoped, would be able to give him an idea of where his seventh years were. He wasn't unaware of how Potions was not everyones favorite class, so this would really be able to weed out who was a fan... and who wasn't.

The potions classroom wasn't to far from the Hufflepuff common room. So Maryn didn't have to leave until it was almost time for class. Potions her second to least favorite class. She did well enough on her O.W.L.s to get into the N.E.W.T. level class. She really wasn't to sure as to what she wanted to do after she left Hogwarts, but at the same time she decided to take potions, defense against the dark arts, charms, transfiguration, alchemy, ancient runes, and muggle stuides, just to keep her options open. But today she had a potions class to get to. There were still fifteen minutes until class began but she left the common room anyways hoping to make a good impression by arriving early. They had a new potions professor this year and she was hoping beyond hope that he was a much better teacher than their last one, who made the class really boring for Maryn and so she didn't really care and didn't do to well.
Upon entering the potions classroom in the dungeons Maryn looked around for a moment or two. Noticing that she was the first one there she quickly found a seat at a table in the middle of the classroom where she usually sat. Looking up towards the front of the classroom , she noticed that they would be doing a review today, which was perfectly ok with Maryn. And then she spotted the professor, "Morning Professor." she greeted with a smile, before turning to her bag and getting out the necessary textbook for this class.

It wasn't that he hated potions he just disliked the classwork. It never was easy for him, he found it rather challenging but then yet again he always liked a good challenge. But he had still asked Aurora the other day if she could help him out. Ronan was glad that she had agreed to do so. Granted he did agree to teach her wandless magic, something he was quite good at. And plus he didn't mind one bite since it would give him time to practice his own wandless abilities as well.
Ronan was on his way down to the dungeons for his first class with the new potions professor who was a former Slytherin. Professor Kovachev, and apparently it was his first year teaching. Ronan didn't really care as long as the professor didn't play favorites. On his way down he stopped by the kitchens and was able to get the house elves to give him an apple. And now he was back on his way towards the dungeon, I mean classroom where his potions class was held. Walking in he spotted only one other person there besides himself and the Professor who was at the front of the room. He smiled and walked over to the other person whom he had recognized upon entering, and sat down next to her. "Hey Maryn how is it going today." He asked and then looked up at the board, and he inwardly sighed, great a review, good thing he had done extra work over the summer to practice his potion making skills but he still wondered if it would be enough to get the new professor's approval. As he sat there he ate his apple. Once he finished it Ronan pulled out his wand and banished the core of the apple to the trash can in the corner of the room.

Potions was a challenging but rewarding class for Elaine. There was a lot to remember yes--but the reward was when a potion was bubbling away in front of her and she knew it was right and she knew it would do what it was supposed to do. She walked into class with a light smile on her face as she sat in her accustomed spot. She saw the professor (whom she knew from first hand encounter was not going to tolerate any of her supremacy crap as he so put it and so she had to choose her words and battles carefully today) who she greeted with a soft hello as she had sat down in her chosen seat. And he was not alone as there was two other people in the classroom too...the hufflepuff girl she still didn't know a whole lot about if anything and Ronan. She said nothing as she glanced over at the two of them before bringing out her potion book and looking down at that instead.
She was still mildly fuming over what had happened in defense against the dark arts class. She was still mad that he managed to do something she had not. Perhaps if he was a fellow Slytherin she might not have cared quite so much (though believe you me she still would have been indignant no matter who you were). But no he had to be in the one house full of the people that she couldn't stand. It was like a conspiracy almost!
But she had to calm her thoughts. Calm her mental indignation and mild (though not so really mild) rage. This was a new class and a new chance to show him up and to show him that he wasn't at all as strong as he thought he was. She glanced back up from her book--this time looking at the chalkboard that told them what was on the agenda for the day. Today was a review day eh? Okay that wasn't so bad. She could handle that...

Potions, it was not his favorite class nor was it his least favorite either, Sean was rather good at potions, since he started living with his aunt who took care of him, she worked in a potions shop and made Sean learn different ingredients and basic potions, so at a young age it caught interest in him but had slowly creped away during the time he got older. Still managed to get an E on my OWLS however thought Sean walking down the magical stairs as they started to move, he jumped from one step onto another flight of stairs that moved near him. One day I’m going to fall thought Sean giving a little smirk as he reached the main floor now, Potions classroom was all the way on the dungeons near the Slytherin common room. Despite his entire family history of Slytherin house members and their love for the dark arts, Sean was no Slytherin love typically enjoying to pull most of his pranks on them, he wasn’t afraid of any of them.
Reaching the dungeons he turned a sharp corner and made his way into the potions classroom, the Professor he had liked, he did not let Slytherins dare be rude to Gryffindors, something that he thought was interesting from a Potions Professors who was a former Slytherin if he had heard right. One Slytherin caught his eye immediately; he had never liked her for some reason maybe because she was good looking and a Slytherin. Being a Slytherin instantly meant deal killer for him, unless they were nice and she wasn’t even near it, he gave a little chuckle and looked at the other students. He recognized one immediately friend of his, a Gryffindor. Ronan was his name and Sean had respect for him because he was a loyal friend like Sean was, and he was a prankster as well. He grinned over in the direction of the prankster buddy and sat down next to him giving him a smile ”How’s it going man?”said Sean giving a grin before turning his eyes towards the front of the classroom and looked at the board, reading “reviews”. That was a good first class of term lesson plan, as Sean had feeling everyone could need a review of the material they had learned from last year. ”Morning Professor” said Sean giving him a smile and nod and waited for the class to begin.

Potions was not Carcer's favorite class. He didn't mind the work in particular, but it was kind of like Herbology to him. The magic of the two courses were not cast, therefore he couldn't read the magical weave of the plants or the potions, which made it more difficult for the half-giant to understand. Research and studying the reactions that substances had to changing conditions was simply not his strength. His work in the two courses, therefore, was adequate but uninspired—he could follow the rules to the letter, but he didn't really understand the why of the potions, so he never really contributed much. And like every other class he was in, his written work was regurgitated from books. But honestly, that wasn't even the main reason the class wasn't his favorite. In fact, Potions was similar enough to cooking that he occasionally enjoyed it. No, the worst thing about Potions was that it was always held down in the dungeons. The dungeons of Hogwarts, like anywhere else, were build with lower ceilings than the rest of the castle, to increase the feeling of being trapped for prisoners and interrogation suspects. Which was all well and good, but Carcer was thirteen feet tall. This did not translate well to a room that was only eight feet high.
Still, there was nothing to be done for it. He needed to take the class, and if that meant a couple of hours of not being able to stand up straight a week, so be it. Carcer was not about to be defeated by his own size. So it was with his usual smile on his face as he opened the door, dropped down to his hands, and crawled into the dungeon. He looked around—oh cool, one person from each house. Maryn, from Hufflepuff. Ronan from Gryffindor, Dupree from Slytherin, and Sean Owens, the Head Boy himself, from Ravenclaw. He turned and looked over at the professor, a stern-looking man named Kovachev. He nodded. “Morning, Professor,” he said, now striding across the room on his fists and knees, gorilla-walking to the back, where he could sit with his back against the wall and not be in anyone else's way. Another review class, huh? Well, he supposed if there was a class he needed review on, this would be it. He pulled out his book, flipping through it, wondering what he should try brewing. Calming Draught? Scintillating Solution? Alihotsy Draught? Oh hey, he could do an Oculus Potion, that would work. Wait, no, the ingredients were too expensive to just throw away on a review session.
Hmm...

The scene in the Slytherin Common Room was calm and tranquil. "The snake house" as Elias called it had never been so peaceful in his opinion. The light chatter of a few nearby snakes, and the cracking and popping of a fire were the only sounds one could truly deem disturbing. Lying on one of the couches, Elias was staring at the ceiling in a semi-daydreaming state. Left alone with his own thoughts, he had been in the same position for a good few minutes now. Never was he one to be bothered by petty thoughts, but the atmosphere of his current setting made him delve into his own mind for a moment.
N.E.W.T was the single word, or acronym that came into Elias' mind. The tests were almost around the corner and Elias wasn't taking any of it as seriously as he should have been. He was late for a bunch of his classes and he had missed a few of them as well. He was definitely lagging when it came to work ethic and he was aware that he needed to pick up his socks.
Maybe he could take some extra classes...He chuckled and shook his head at the idea. Nope, definitely out of the question. He was way too lazy for that. He was better off studying what he had missed in class in his own time. Speaking of class, he quickly came to the realization that he was supposed to be at Potions. With a soft sigh, he snapped out of his haze and started getting his bag together. Potions was no doubt one of his favorite subjects. He treated it like his art. Every ingredient had to be mixed with absolute perfection, just like every dimension he made with a pencil had to be on point. For him Potions was a mere extension of his art.
Once finished he left the snake house and made his way to the Potions dungeon, which was only a stone's throw away.

Potions was not a class Alice was good at. It was actually her worst class out of them all. She had barely been able to pass her O.W.L.s exam to even make it to the N.E.W.T.s course, and now as she reluctantly walked through the portrait hole of the common room, she was wondering why she didn't drop it completely. Oh, that's right... because Alice wanted to be a magizoologist, and she figured to have more knowledge on certain potions that could come in handy in that field, she had to stay with Potions class. Unfortunately.
It was a new teacher this year, so Alice had no idea what to expect. Though she had heard from James that he was not so great... Alice was a little wary of the new professor for this reason. In the past, she had learned to act or do her assignments a certain way because the old teacher had been a certain sort of particular. This man, however, was a mystery to Alice and she had to admit she was a little afraid as she entered the classroom.
As the Hufflepuff slowly entered the dungeon, she looked around to see who else had arrived. No sign yet of Elodie or James, her best friends, but there was Carcer in his regular spot in the back row. Alice couldn't help but give a small smile to her half giant friend, who was always sitting in the back because of his size. She actually took a seat at the desk in front of him, not one to want to sit in the front or anywhere near it in Potions class. She looked around to see that Maryn and Ronan had arrived already and were sitting together. There was some Ravenclaw that Alice recognized as the Head Boy and then two Slytherins. Elaine and a boy, who she was certain went by Elias. Alice didn't talk to them at all.
The blonde let out a heavy sigh as she sat down, unable to keep completely still in her seat due to her nerves about the lesson: review. Alice had done her best to catch up on what they had studied last year, but she feared it wasn't going to be helpful. So she found herself hoping and praying that she would not be called on during today's lesson.

If it was not Herbology, it was potions. Aurora was a complete potion enthusiast. Since she was young, potions had been one of her favorite subjects. She was naturally talented at it and found no hardship when it came down to memorizing the recipes and practicing the techniques. It didn’t even matter which professor taught it, Aurora found a reason to enjoy the class. The subject alone was enough to satisfy her, not to mention she loved the fact that it went hand in hand with herbology, her other love. So when potion’s time neared, Aurora was not shy of showing her eagerness to be in the class.
She finished her previous activities early in order to grab one of her many warn out potion books. Aurora wasn’t a person to buy a brand new book just on the fact she can. So far, every one of her books were actually her brothers. Many of them were still brand new, others, not so much. But over the years, Aurora continually opened them, constantly writing, even when the book was for a future year or a previous year. It was just something she occupied herself with when she didn’t want to mix in other activities.
The girl had already been through her seventh year book countless times and was more than prepared for her NEWTS but going to class and discussing it was another thing. Aurora cradled her potion’s book to her chest when she walked into the dungeon room. The atmosphere didn’t bother her and she quite enjoyed the environment seeing as it almost mimicked the one at home near the library. The brunette looked around the classroom. In all honesty the only one in there that she actually spoke to was Ronan. The rest were just a few she knew from being in classes with.
Aurora gave a smile and wave to Ronan before her attention to the professor. This was the man James spoke ill of not too long ago. Aurora couldn’t understand why, but they apparently didn’t favor each other. It wasn’t something Aurora should be thinking about, but the subject did pop into her head. The girl banished all thoughts of Potter as she made her way more into the room and stole the seat behind Ronan. He was someone Aurora would not mind working with or being near since they have previously agreed on helping each other out. Being near him in class would make such a job easier and more efficient.
Aurora carefully placed her well used book down and dropped her bag to the floor. The blue eyes beauty then turned back to her book and opened it up after reading the message on the board. Sure her current book would not supply her with knowledge from the past, but she had nothing else to do until class starts.

James Potter was not excited for his potions class at all. First off, James was ruddy awful at potions. Once he had completely messed up a potion when Alice had given him strict instructions to not do so, but when his best friend had stepped away to start cutting ingredients, James had somehow really messed up the potion, causing boils to pop up all up and down his right arm. He had found himself in the Hospital Wing for two nights for that incident. The old potions teacher had really learned to keep an eye on James, but James got along with the old professor. He understood that James was a troublemaker and liked attention, so the teacher tended to tease or ridicule James for his own type of fun. In the end, this only made James respect the man. But the new professor? Well, James already didn't get along with him very well.
One of the first nights back to Hogwarts, James had gotten word of the new potions master. So, in the spirit of "welcoming" the new professor, James recruited two Gryffindor first years to help him out with a little prank. The three had found themselves down in the dungeons, outside of the potions room right after dinner. James had instructed the two first years to post up around the corner and warn him when the new professor was coming. James had scored a few firecrackers from his uncle's shop and he planned to put them to good use on Kovachev, the Potions Master. So, after Kovachev had finished dinner he began to walk back down to his office in the dungeons. The first years came rounding the corner, telling James that Kovachev was quickly approaching. Upon seeing the professor, James and the young boys kid behind a statue of a snake and James threw the firecrackers out onto the ground directly in front of Kovachev. What happened next caused the three boys to break out in hysterics.
Kovachev began jumping all around the dungeon corridor on his tip toes, dodging cracking fireworks as he did so. In their fit of hysterics, James and the first years had not noticed that Kovachev had spotted them. Immediately he demanded an answer for who had done this. James valiantly took the blame for the first years, as it was indeed all his idea. This prank had landed James in detention with Kovachev and what a joy that was. The whole time James sat in the potions classrom with Kovachev, James insisted on causing a raucous. He kept folding origami birds and enchanting them to fly up and land on Kovachev's desk gingerly. This enraged Kovachev and only landed James in more detentions, which in turn landed him a spot on Kovachev's list of trouble students.
So a part of James was a little excited for potions if only because he would have the chance to mess with Kovachev, but upon entering the classroom, that plan nearly went out the window at the sight of Aurora Lestrange.
Confidently, James waltzed into the room and made his way up to the desk that Aurora had seated herself at. He took a seat right down next to Aurora, sitting directly behind Maryn King and one of his best friends, Ronan. He grinned widely at them in greeting and then turned to look at Aurora, but not before glancing at Kovachev, who seemed to already be rubbing his temples irritably at the presence of James. "Good mornin', Rory," he whispered so just Aurora would hear him mutter her nickname. Aurora had sort of agreed to helping James with his potions essay, so he figured he would make good of that study date by partnering up with her in class.
But at the back of James's mind, he couldn't help but think of Alice, in the back of the room, who was his usual partner in every class. He felt odd not sitting down with Alice, but he figured that his best friend would understand.
