So awkward. Edmund wasn't sure what he was supposed to do to try and avoid the awkwardness, which is why he started the conversation. He didn't understand why Will hadn't started it, he seemed to be better at conversing people than Ed was. He smiled at Edmund when he told him that he was doing well. Then he mentioned that he'd met someone. Edmund felt his eyes widen in surprise. Will had never mentioned someone that he'd been dating to Edmund before. Did that mean ... was he serious with her or something? Not that Ed knew how to ask him that. After a few seconds he shook his head, "Susan hasn't told me anything about you," he made his answer.
He shrugged when Will asked about his summer. "Not much going on. I have a few plans to meet some friends in Diagon Alley soon, but that's all," he said. He was trying to keep the atmosphere positive, but he had a hard time telling Will things. Unless Will was more specific, he wasn't going to get more than that.

Will saw Ed's eyes widen and he sucked his lips in anticipation. Will nodded when Ed responded, "ah," he said, clearing his throat, "well, I'm hoping to introduce her to you guys soon," yes, it was serious and yes, Will didn't share his love life with Ed ever, but Isla was different. The whole situation was different. He was pretty sure he wasn't going to let himself lose track of Isla any time soon... maybe ever.
"That's fun," he responded as Ed answered about his summer. "Just for lunch or shopping or...?" he asked. This was painfully difficult!

When Will said he was planning on introducing this woman to them soon, Edmund was even more surprised. Will wanted him to meet someone he was dating? That must mean ... it was even more serious than he'd thought. Edmund didn't know what to say to his brother. They weren't close and he didn't know how Will expected him to react. Maybe ... maybe the reason Will was trying to be so patient with Ed right now was because of her. Who knew? Edmund nodded his head, "All right. I'll-" What should he say? "I'll ... be on my best behavior," he finally said. That was as reassuring as he could be, right? Of course, he wasn't going to fight with her, that would just cause problems. Hopefully Will understood what he was trying to say.
Then Will started asking more questions about his summer. Awkward. Will never cared about what Edmund had done beforehand, but it was painfully obvious he was trying to be kinder. Edmund shrugged. "Lunch and just wandering around mostly. I'm not big into shopping. Susan helped me get through that," he said, unable to repress his shudder. Shopping. One of the few things he could never stand. Not that Will would know that, but still. It was true.

Will could tell Ed was surprised but oddly enough it caused him to smile. The thought of Isla meeting his siblings was a positive one, one that got Will more excited than anything. At Ed's words about being on his best behavior Will let out a full laugh, raising an eyebrow at his brother, "really?" then he lowered his skeptical brow again, "I'm sure you could just be yourself. Don't worry, she's a pretty easy person to get along with," he encouraged.
will nodded as Ed explained his summer plans somewhat, "sounds fun," he said, then he focused on eating for a bit, unsure what to say next.

Edmund was relieved that Will was smiling. At least it meant the two of them weren't going to cause a scene. He blinked slowly a few times when Will told him he could just be himself with her. Was he serious? Will never liked who Ed was, so why would he want Edmund to act like himself? He normally seemed to want Edmund to be on his best behavior. But it wasn't criticism, which was encouraging enough that Ed gave a hesitant smile, "You don't mind if she sees the annoying, rude side of me that you're always telling me to get over?" He asked, keeping his smile to show he wasn't angry. He was curious. What was it about this girl that made it so that Edmund could be himself?
Edmund thought for a moment, trying to find something to say. Normally he didn't bother with Will, but things seemed to be going well between the two of them. "So is it weird not going back to Hogwarts when school starts?" Edmund asked curiously. He would never admit it, but he was nervous to only have 2 years left. He didn't want to leave school.

Edmund made that snarky comment, but he was still smiling, which confused Will. He smiled softly, nodding, "she wont," he said slowly. He was sure that Isla would love his family no matter what... well, she'd at least like them.
Will shrugged at Ed's next question, "not anymore. It was for a while. Up until last year... this time it's not as strange. I guess that's because I have Isla," she winced, "sorry," he didn't meant to talk about her so much. "Any thoughts about what you're doing after school?" he knew that was a loaded question but, eh, this was Will.

Ed had a feeling that Will wanted to stop talking about Isla. If they were closer, Edmund probably would have asked questions about the girl, but the two had never been close, so he didn't think Will would appreciate him asking questions. So Edmund let the subject drop. He was actually looking forward to meeting her, hoping that she would approve of him, or maybe just not hate him. That would be nice.
Edmund nodded, trying to understand his brother. Maybe it wouldn't be weird after the first year. Still, Hogwarts meant magic and, in a way, home to Ed. He wasn't sure if he would be ready to let it go when the time came. He smiled when his brother mentioned Isla again. Wow, that girl must have really gotten to him. "It's not a problem. You can tell me about her if you want ..." Edmund trailed off. He didn't want Will to feel obligated to say anything he didn't want to but Ed was curious.
He shrugged at Will's question, "I've been trying to look into a few things, but nothing is sticking out for me yet. I'm trying to look at all my options, you know?" Of course, Ed had no idea if Will knew what he meant. Will seemed to always know what he wanted, so maybe he hadn't struggled with that.

Ed offered for Will to tell him about Isla, albeit awkwardly. Will nodded slowly, but it took him a moment to speak. "She's Irish. A farmer. Trains trolls," she shrugged. Why was it so much easier talking to Susan about this? Well, he knew why, actually. He and Ed had never been that close and Susan was a lot better at prompting. Will had a hard enough time talking without prompts as it was.
Will nodded as Ed answered his question about after school plans, "I assume you'll want to focus more on the Wizarding side of things, right?" he guessed. He knew that Ed felt more passionate about his life there rather than in the Royal court, which Will could understand- even if he didn't feel the same way.

Edmund planned on just smiling and nodding to whatever Will said about the girl ... Isla, was it? But then he said that she trained trolls and Ed's curiosity was piqued. His eyes widened with interest and a half smile crossed his face without him noticing. "She trains trolls? I didn't even know that was a job. What does she train trolls for? I mean, where do wizards need trolls that are trained?" He wasn't sure if his questions made any sense, but he was asking them nonetheless. He couldn't help himself. For the first time in a long time, Will said something that he was actually interested in.
He nodded instantly at Will's next suggestion. "Yeah, I fit in more with the magical side. I've never been good at being a Royal. Everyone knows that." He wasn't blunt. Why shouldn't he be? Everyone in his family knew that he didn't like being royal. That was Will's thing way more than his own.

There was that familiar shock at mentioning what Isla did for a living and Will grinned at his brothers questions, "well, they're security trolls so Gringotts hires them as well as private investors and other companies, it's pretty much like hiring a guard dog only they're bigger and trained differently, does that make sense?" he asked. He was getting excited too due to the fact that Ed was getting interested in something.
Will chuckled as Ed said he was no good at being Royal. That was... one way of putting it. "Well, then I think we should talk magical careers. I mean, if you'll let me help?"

Edmund's nose wrinkled as he tried to imagine what Will was telling him. Training security trolls? That was cool. Definitely something unique and interesting and, though he wasn't going to say it, Edmund was surprised his brother found a girl that was interesting. She was probably very pretty, but if she trained trolls then that's not all there was to her. For the first time this conversation, Edmund found himself really interested in meeting the girl. "Yeah, that sounds cool," he admitted to his brother, allowing the awe to seep out of his tone.
He shrugged when Will chuckled and asked if they could talk about magical careers. "Sure. I mean, I don't really know what I want. I talked to Scorpius before school got out and he gave me some ideas, but I'm not sure where I want to go. Maybe you know about more jobs than I do," he suggested hopefully. As long as Will didn't shoot down the ideas Edmund liked, they'd probably be fine. Then again, Edmund was interested in the semi-dangerous, exciting jobs and he didn't think his older brother would like that much either.

So, Ed thought troll training was cool? As dangerous as the profession was, will considered maybe bringing Ed along to meet the troll brothers sometime. He'd have to check with Isla first, of course. "I'm sure she'd love to tell you about it."
Will was trying to hide his excitement about talking careers with his little bro, and he didn't a good job of it. Sitting there nodding when appropriate and staying calm where some of Wills specialties. "Well, there are really a lot of jobs out there. I mean, curse-breakig is one. Lots of travel, problem solving... what kind of work are you interested in? As in, at a desk or out ad about?" he already know the answer, but he liked this back and forth.

Edmund smiled when Will told him that his girlfriend would love to tell him about her job. Hmm ... maybe troll training was something to look into? Ed would decide once he knew more, of course.
He could tell that Will was excited to talk about career options with him, but Edmund felt slightly reticent. He didn't know how Will would respond to the types of jobs he was interested in and they were actually getting along for once! Edmund didn't want to mess that up by talking about jobs and having differing opinions, but Will was so excited, he decided to give it a shot. Edmund snorted at the idea of a desk job. Yeah right. "I definitely do not want a desk job," he told his brother instantly. "I dunno. I want something active, something that I'd always be learning in, something fun and exciting ... for me, at least," he amended, remembering how Scorpius responded when he used those words last spring. Whatever, hopefully Will would understand. Not likely, but he'd hope for it anyway.

Will chuckled at Eds snort, expecting the answer that followed. He nodded, "I can see what you mean. I don't think I'd be able to sit around. That really is the worst thing about any job though is paperwork, and your going to get that no matter where you go," he frowned for a moment, but it didn't last, "the key is to find the job with the least amount. Or rather, where it isn't that dull. I think troll training could do the trick or maybe even working with other animals... do you like working with creatures?" Will honestly didn't know the asnwer to that question, which left him a bit crestfallen. He should have known... or at least, attempted to know about something like that.

Edmund didn't really like talking about paperwork. "Yeah, the less amount of paperwork involved, the better I'll like it probably," he confessed. Not that he needed to. Will seemed to understand that, surprisingly. Or maybe he just didn't like paperwork either. "Yeah, I like creatures, for the most part. I was kind of thinking that I might like something to do with Dragons ..." he trailed off, surprised that he actually told his brother what he was thinking. Honestly, he couldn't really think of many jobs that would be interesting for him. Well, there was Quidditch. He loved that dearly, but he wasn't going to bring that up at the moment.
