It was an early Monday morning and Callie was up bright and early to get a good spot at the Gryffindor table. A lot of the students were sleeping still or already in class so she had a nice open area where she could lay down her photos for the paper to give them a look over. She had to match each photo up to the story or article to hand it in that afternoon so it could all be printed out.
Dressed in a pair of high waisted black shorts and a lose maroon colored tank top, she made her way down to the Great Hall, her black sandals making a pitter patter noise as she walked. Callie threw her wavy brown hair into a ponytail and looked ready for the day. As she set her bag down on the table and began taking out photos, a plate with toast, eggs and bacon appeared along with a tall mug of coffee. Callie sat down, grabbed the mug and took a sip, savoring the taste of her favorite drink.

The Monsters walk among us Monday mornings were quite possibly the most revolting things in existence. There were numerous problems with the start of the week, and number one on that list was getting up early for class. Somehow Grey had pulled the lucky straw of an early morning Monday class this year, and thus was now subjected to the hell that followed. Luckily for him, the rest of the day was virtually clear, and breakfast was always available after the class was done with. In typical Grey fashion, he entered the Great Hall stifling a yawn, his eyes still adjusting to the bright morning rays of light that had snuck their way through the enormous room’s windows. His first course of action was obtaining the largest cup of coffee possible. Coffee was the only thing out there that made Grey function correctly, a day without enough of it would end up with him getting smacked over the head with a book by a professor, or falling asleep while waiting for the staircases to move for him. Shuffling over to the Gryffindor table with as little energy use as possible, Grey managed to find his drink of choice immediately and took a mug in each hand before meandering towards the closest area that had the least amount of people. Slowly sliding into a seat, Grey set his two coffee mugs in front of a plate, hoping breakfast would be something different than it had been the day before. Eggs, sausage, toast. The usual boring platter. He wasn’t exactly fond of what appeared on the plate, but he’d have to live with it. Yawning in displeasure, he stabbed one of his eggs with a fork and stared at it for a few seconds before mindlessly digging in. After a few minutes of chewing, he extended his arm out to grab hold one of his coffees, only to put too much force into it and knocking both over in the process. Rolling his eyes, he let out a few expletives under his breath as he pulled his wand out to clean up the mess he had made. Nothing was more annoying than spilling coffee first thing in the morning. Getting back to his feet, he ran over to the closest coffee to get another cup. He still needed it to function for the rest of the day, and a silly mistake like this wasn’t going to deter him from such a wonderfully energizing drink. As he grabbed another mug and turned back towards his seat, a familiar face caught his attention. Sitting a few feet away and across the table from Grey, sat Callie, the photographer for the school paper. The two of them had spent a lot of time working on articles for the paper together, and it looked like she had a decent amount of photos laid out on the table. “Morning.” Grey said he as he stopped on his side of the table and faced his fellow club member. “Are all of those for the articles we’re printing later?”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie hadn't even noticed any people entering or exiting the Great Hall. Her mind was set on a task and her ears were blocking almost everything out. This is what happens when she gets into her working mode; she's very articulate and careful, making very sure not to ruin or forget anything. So when a fellow Gryffindor of hers spilt coffee down the table from her, the only time she glanced up was to make sure the coffee wasn't about to come spilling down her way and ruin all of her lovely pictures. That, would not have made for a very happy Callie on a Monday morning.
She had her photos separated very distinctly; by page number, by article in order of which the article comes, and then finally any extra photos she may have. She'd most likely have Kyle and Grey look them over to see if they have a photo they like more so than the one she had put in the pile herself. Callie really enjoyed being in the Newspaper. Not only because she made new friends but because she got to take photos. Hers were absolutely fantastic, and even though she doesn't like to brag, some of them do come out quite beautiful.
A voice sounded above her and Callie glanced up. She sighed, finally getting a break. It was Grey, and she smiled at him. Callie nodded her head, "Yes, for the articles. Just trying to separate them all and see which ones I like most." Her hands reached for her coffee mug carefully and she took another long sip, savoring the taste of one of her favorite drinks. She motioned her hand towards the seat in front of her, "You can sit if you'd like. Help, or just look along, up to you."

The Monsters walk among us Grey distinctly remembered having worked on projects like this before Callie had joined the newspaper. He and Kyle had split the job of being photographer prior to that, and it certainly was not pretty. Half of the pictures turned out blurry, how that was possible with a magic camera, well, Grey would leave that up to the professionals. His job was to make sure articles were written, they had relevance to what was going on at school, and that everything was in proper order to have them printed and turned over to the rest of the students. A photographer, he was not. Leaning over the table to take a look at the photos Callie had laid out, Grey recognized a few of the articles that they were for. He didn’t write as much as he used to, but there the short piece he had written welcoming the students back was there, a nice snapshot of the first-years entering the Great Hall accompanied it. Scanning a few of the others on the table, Grey was impressed with what Callie had managed. It was definitely a struggle to be at each location for photos, so a lot of the paper’s articles just contained the stories. Now that they had a dedicated photographer, everything was going to be more official. It was a new age for the school paper. Accepting Callie’s offer to sit, Grey glanced over to where he had been previously seated. His plate was gone. He figured it would be. The house-elves would clear your plate if you were eating slowly. All he needed was coffee anyways, breakfast never helped him make it through the day like everyone claimed it would. As he sat down, Grey noticed that Callie had a pile of photos for each of the stories. Taking a sip of his newest cup of coffee, he pointed to one of the photos that surrounded an article Kyle had written. “I think this one fits the best, but it’s ultimately up to Kyle.” In the end though, it didn’t really matter since Kyle would pretty much accept any photograph that was attached to one of his pieces. The heart and soul of his articles were focused on giving advice to other students, and Kyle was uniquely qualified to do that. “Liking the club so far? Things will start to pick up as the year goes on. I’m hoping we get a few crazy stories along the way.” As long as they weren’t as extreme as the previous year, that is. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie didn't always have trouble when trying to take photos for the articles in the newspaper. She always had a very small book in her bag with a summary of information such as; titles, pages, and what the main subject was so that while she had free time or walking between classes she was able to snap a photo here and there of what she thinks may fit well. Not only can she do that, but taking photos in her spare time is something Callie enjoys. Whether it be of nature, candid, or something completely different, it's fun to her. A day doesn't go by that she isn't snapping photos, even if the majority were for the newspaper and not herself.
When Grey sat down Callie just watched him look at her photos. They very rarely talk outside of the club so it was slightly awkward having him sit here, but even then he was in her house and they constantly saw each other. He was cute, but he most likely had some other girl in his life already. He seemed pretty popular himself and Callie wasn't. She was very quiet and tended to keep to herself a lot. A lot of friends was definitely something Callie did not have, but she wouldn't mind a few more. It was nice to have someone to talk to that wasn't always your family.
Grey pointed to one of her photos and she nodded. "I'll definitely go over them with Kyle as soon as I can; I want them to match up perfectly to what he's trying to explain and get the readers to comprehend." She smiled slightly at Grey. She'd of course take his thought into consideration too, but as Kyle was the one doing most of the writing she needed to make sure he approved of the photo as well so that it wasn't a complete opposite picture. Her eyes went from her coffee back up to Grey and she nodded her head. "Of course! It's fun, and a lot different than orchestra." Callie laughed. That was completely true; playing a guitar and writing music and making sure everyone played perfect was so much different than just snapping a few photos.

The Monsters walk among us Either another class had been let out, or one of the house common rooms had been lit on fire because a huge crowd of students entered the Great Hall en masse. The large portion of them were younger students, subjected to the early classes like Grey was in his N.E.W.T classes. It was pure, raw torture. But he had to do it if he wanted to be an Auror, and it was too late to be complaining about it now. Regardless, the noise in the dining hall exploded as the newcomers entered, their high-pitched, prepubescent voices grating on his ears. It was much too early in the morning for this, and he was trying to get business done. If only they knew the struggles of being a half-asleep seventh year that had an early Monday morning class and had already spilled two cups of his precious coffee. Then they would understand. Taking a large swig of his coffee once again, he felt the caffeine kick bring his temper back down, allowing him to focus on the matters at hand. “Yeah, we’ll go over all the photos again in the meeting later. It’s good that you’re getting a head start on it though, makes all of our lives easier.”He had almost forgotten that she was in the orchestra club as well. It hadn’t hindered her ability to take photographs or make deadlines yet, so it hadn’t even come close to being a problem. Grey had always wanted to play an instrument, but he was tone deaf in every which way. He could keep up a slow, steady beat from time to time, but putting an instrument in his hand was like telling him to speak a foreign language on the spot with a wand pointed to his head. Now that he thought about it a little more, he wasn’t sure if Callie had ever mentioned what she actually did in the orchestra. Grey couldn’t recall ever meeting anyone else in it either, so the members had to be few and far between, or they just didn’t talk about it too much. “You know, I don’t really know anything about the orchestra club. Do the members just meet up and practice when they can, or is it more a collective of musicians?”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

As people, mostly younger students entered the Great Hall, Callie tilted her head up to glance at the main doorway and she scrunched up her nose. The noise that surrounded them was extremely loud, and not the best thing for her focus. She shook her head at the children, remembering when she was that loud and obnoxious. It was slightly bittersweet, but also quite annoying at the same time. Her eyes glanced at Grey and she realized he was aggravated as well. Not sure if it was for the same reason, or if something was just bothering him but she smiled to herself, making note not too laugh at him for her own sake and safety. God knows how much trouble that would get her in. Callie took another long sip of her coffee and added some more coffee into it, contemplating on how many cups she thinks she would have that day. "Yeah, that's alright. I'm glad to get different opinions, makes my job easier on what the readers want. And trust me, no worries. Photographing is fun for me."
Grey mentioned the Orchestra and Callie thought about it all for a moment. "Well...it's both. There are tons of different instruments, some work well together and others don't." It was a bit difficult but she figured she'd get through it okay. "For example, I play the guitar which is a string instrument. So when everyone in the club gets together, I'd be working and studying with other strings such as a bass, violin, cello, etc. But when we are setting up and creating a song to play for other events, it's different. Being the co-captain, I write quite a bit of the music for events and parties here at school. So I separate people into different groups to learn other songs..." Callie made a confused face herself and laughed. "I'm sorry if that makes no sense!"

The Monsters walk among us He was glad to hear that Callie enjoyed her time in the club. Grey knew first hand that it was tough dealing with the other students sometimes because they worked for the newspaper. On occasion they would run a story that wouldn’t be taken too well with the general populace of Hogwarts, and they’d run themselves into a corner. Usually this involved professors and whatnot, and Grey would eventually be forced to remove the article from the paper. If only they were in America. Then they could get away with almost anything. The problem that typically arose was when they produced gossip articles or an article on a subject that might not exactly be newsworthy and more borderline slanderous. In his defense, they were more of a tabloid paper than a hard hitting factual one, so they should be grandfathered in when it comes to articles based on students and the likes. There were definitely more serious issues at Hogwarts than his silly little newspaper club that he ran, and students, teachers, and parents alike needed to understand that. The newspaper should be a source of solace and intrigue over what goes on at school, not a place of hatred. And then there was the orchestra club that he knew nothing about. It had always mystified Grey that there were numbers of interesting facts about Hogwarts that he learned every year. When he was younger, he spent the majority of the time wandering around the halls trying to find secret passages and the likes; rumors from former students that some lead to different floors of the school, the grounds, and even outside of the castle. He never ended up finding any of them, but it was still fun to go out and explore. Escaping his memories of years past, Grey turned his attention back to what Callie was talking about. He nodded as she continued on about her other club, showing that it made sense how they did things. Grey assumed writing music was a relatively difficult task, obviously the ones that were good at it ended up becoming famous in both the magical and muggle worlds. It was definitely a talent that could get someone far in life if they were exceptional at it. “I’m pretty much tone deaf. I enjoy listening to music, mostly muggle stuff, but I doubt I’ll ever be able to play an instrument. That’s a pretty good skill you have there.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie laughed at Grey's comment. She had heard that before, but never really believed the people who said that. Callie really didn't believe in being tone deaf, just being inexperienced in music, singing and writing songs. Cal thought anyone could do it. All was needed as practice! And she had no issue trying to help others either.
"Oh no way! Thank you though. All you need is practice and lessons." Callie actually hadn't tried to help someone in music besides in the club . And the people in this club mostly already knew how to play music. But like Callie says , you can always learn more.

The Monsters walk among us Grey kind of expected to get a laugh out of the tone deaf comment. A few years back, he made friends with a few muggle street musicians, chatting up a storm with them. He had always had an intense interest in music, but it just didn’t come to him naturally. The more he thought about it, he was pretty sure his entire family was like that. Unless Addi or Claire had some hidden musical talent skill that he was unaware of. Actually, that could be possible since he really didn’t dig into their personal lives that much anymore. That was mostly his fault though. “I know they typically say practice helps with everything, but I’m can guarantee I’m a lost cause at this point.” Grey stated, laughing at himself. “The only thing I’ve got going is writing and a huge arsenal of spells. Music might be a stretch.” Technically that was a lie. He knew that he had some other hidden talents here and there, like sleeping through anything, and the occasional ability to fly a broom like a pro when given the chance. Years of watching Quidditch had helped him master techniques just by watching them over and over again. For some reason, this applied to learning spells as well, just that he had decided that sleeping was more important most of the time. Attempting to take another sip of his coffee, Grey noticed that it was out once again. After spilling the previous ones, he was already down two coffees for the day. He hadn’t been talking to Callie for long, so there probably wasn’t any harm in filling it up again. Luckily for him, the new arrivals to the Gryffindor table were sitting rather close to the two of them, and the house elves must have deemed their section of the table worthy of more coffee. Not having to move too far to get a new cup, Grey quickly returned to his seat across from Callie. Pointing at her pictures once again, he picked up from their previous conversation. “So which of these stories do you think will have the most impact? I know Kyle’s segment gets relatively good viewership each week, but I’m not sure about the rest of these.” They had recently taken on quite a few independent writers, since not all of the club members were positive about returning this year. “I essentially need to know how we should keep on for more pieces in the future.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Grey's next few words made Callie laugh. There were so many different ways you could incorporate yourself and skills into music. It wasn't always singing or an instrument; you could be a dancer, or a choreographer, or a videographer, a photographer, a writer, etc. And that's exactly what Callie was about to tell him. "Well, you say you're a writer. You could write song lyrics, and someone could write the music for you. There's many ways to be musical, you know."
Callie watched him get up and go get some more coffee. She hadn't had this long of a conversation with Grey, ever. It was slightly weird but had a good feeling along with it as well. They were in the same house so it wasn't like she never saw him, she almost always caught sight of him on a daily basis and Callie definitely wouldn't mind being good friends with him; he seemed sweet enough. When he came back he questioned her about the paper and her other photographs. She shrugged slightly, "I personally think anything that has to do with what has been happening the past few weeks around here will get good news. Also, articles that have to do with drama, relationships, sex, stuff such as that is something I would like to read about, especially if they're about people I know."

The Monsters walk among us Callie definitely had some good input on what the paper needed. She was an outside source in a way; compared to Grey and Kyle, she more than likely viewed everything they did through a different lens, both literally and figuratively. It was the little moments like these that Grey looked forward too, since he was able to get a glimpse at his work through another person’s eyes. Nodding his head and listening to what Callie thought about the paper, and what it more than likely desperately needed to get more readers. He and Kyle had spent the last few years doing their best to try and figure this out and had made some head way, but it just didn’t seem to be working that well. Now they had a new member, and one that was out in the field more than they were. “It sounds like we’re doing a good job on the breaking news stuff then.” He wasn’t too happy about what all of it was about, of course, but news was news, and it was their job as a club to report on it. Reaching into his robes to pull out a small notepad and pen that he kept on himself at all times, Grey scribbled notes as Callie listed off some of her other ideas on what she wanted to see in the paper, hesitating at some of them, but eventually jotting them down nonetheless. They had already started leaning towards gossip and advice with Kyle’s segment, so that was a decent start in the department. Anything more than that, and well, they would sound like a tabloid magazine. Grey wasn’t vehemently opposed to turning the paper into this, but he’d rather test the waters first. They had a duty to give the news as it was, and exploring rumors and other students’ secrets wasn’t exactly the direction that he felt it should go under the current circumstances. He didn’t mind making a few enemies here and there, but some might see articles like that as personal attacks. Still, it was a good idea in theory, and they could still give it a shot in the near future. “If you get any ideas or hear anything that seems like a story that could work, definitely let us know.” Grey shrugged his shoulders and took another sip of coffee. “Going the tabloid route is always worth a shot in the dark.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

"Oh of course! I hadn't meant for you to think you aren't, when I had first joined the club I read the paper daily, it is quite interesting and the headlines you guys use are very eye catching." Callie was a frequent reader to begin with, so to have the paper at her very disposal whenever she pleases was nice. Not only that, but the stories the guys wrote and chose to use were actually quite good. There wasn't anything ever really boring in the paper, other than the articles and topics the school may require them to add in such as about NEWTs and such.
Callie watched Grey jot down a few things in a small notepad and she grinned slightly. He seemed to waver at a few things but it didn't matter to her. She was the photographer, after all, not the author. Taking a sip of coffee, Callie realized it was empty so she got up real quick to grab another cup. Sliding back into her seat she smiled at him and nodded. "You could give it a go, and if it doesn't seem like it works so well the first time, just go back to how you guys have normally been doing it. There's a 50/50 chance for everything."

The Monsters walk among us Well that was a good thing that they had interesting titles and headlines. Grey had always found that to be one of the hardest parts of writing an article and the same for when he was editing final drafts of other ones. Titles had to be eye-catching, but at the same time they couldn’t be misleading, at least not without some of the truth existing within them. Having high quality photographs paired with their articles now definitely helped them in the naming process, allowing both the photo and title to give a short caption of what readers were about to experience, prior to them actually reading it. All of it was part of journalism basics, yet it always turned out to be some of the most difficult aspects of the whole thing. “I’m glad you’ve noticed the headlines.” Grey laughed. “Those will kill me some day. The authors of the articles always have a title in mind that they want to use, but we always end up having to change them. It’s a constant battle.” He rolled his eyes at the thought of having to deal with them later. “But compromise is part of the job right? I’m sure you have to do that all the time with your photos.”Grey pondered the idea of doing more tabloid-esque articles. They already had Kyle’s advice and gossip column, and that was clearly a hit. But would prying into student’s lives without their express consent be allowed? A normal media outlet, both magical and muggle alike, would have no problem running stories like that. Grey was still slightly hesitant about the whole idea though. The paper would need assurance that they couldn’t get in trouble if they reported on something along the lines of tabloid and gossip. Plus it had to be tasteful. None of them could risk their reputation over a silly article on a student’s personal life. “I don’t really know much about gossip papers and magazines to jump in head first. You and Kyle would have to help me out with that one. I have no clue where to start.” MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie laughed along with Grey. He didn't seem very confident in the paper, and she was curious why. Her eyes glanced around the Great Hall and there were tons of the school paper floating about from student to student. She rose an eyebrow at him and smiled. "You know, you should be more confident. I always see students reading it, even now. You're doing a fantastic job, Grey." It was true, like she had said previously, before she had even been on the club she read it in the morning with her coffee and breakfast. It was a way to keep up to date on everything happening around school, and it was helpful. "Compromise can be one of the hardest things, especially if I love one of the photos I've taken but it doesn't fit with the story. So, I keep them for the future or my own personal use. Maybe you could do that? Write down the headlines of what everyone else enjoys, and if it happens to fit in the future, test it out."
Her eyes widening, she smiled. Callie nodded her head, "I'd love to help! I just don't want to overstep, I am just the photographer..." She laughed softly.
