The Monsters walk among us “You’re not wrong about that. It’s my job as editor-in-chief to worry about it though. I know it does well, but at the same time I have to make sure everyone else understands how important it is to create great content.” Grey wasn’t sure if it was exactly a lack in confidence in the paper, or more so the possibility of it crashing and burning extremely fast if they weren’t careful about what they published. In trying times like this year, it was better for them to be vigilant with their articles, putting out content that would take the events off of everyone’s mind, but at the same time assuring them that everything was going to be fixed. If the mixture of different articles was enough to confuse a reader, it had already thrown Grey through a loop. The only thing the club could really do was to continue what they had already started, and if taking a few stabs at gossip and tabloid articles could help the students at Hogwarts feel better, than that was what they were there for. “Definitely not a bad idea with the headlines bit. We have a good stock pile of them already, in case a professor leaves, or a house team soundly defeats another in a Quidditch match. Little stuff like that. It makes it easier when it comes to getting those articles out fast.”Grey’s entire goal for the newspaper club was to make it as popular as possible, something that had been a daunting task since he took over as the editor-in-chief. So far they had managed to make it work though, and the added help of new club members made everything easier on him. The best part was that they were all just as driven. The popularity of the paper, as Callie had indicated earlier, was through the roof, and that was enough to get everyone working harder. He couldn’t have been any happier about how the club was going. “Trust me, we always need new perspective. If there’s anything you’ve ever wanted to write, or think one of us should do, bring it up during the meetings. We’re all ears.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie nodded her head. "I know it is, but sometimes you just gotta say the hell with it, and be confident in what you're putting out there. Otherwise it'll get harder and harder. Worrying is okay, but know that what you do is fantastic, and don't ever doubt that." She sounded like a philosopher however she was just giving advice. Callie knew what it was like to have no confidence, in herself, her music, her life, anything. It wasn't a pretty feeling and although Grey's probably wasn't as bad as hers was, having confidence is a good thing that anyone should be able to comprehend.
When he said if she had any ideas to run it past him, her eyes widened. She hadn't been expecting that, and it wasn't everyday that Callie was asked to help out or do something so it made her feel good. She racked her brain, trying to think. "I haven't really got anything right now, but I'll definitely let you know if and when I do. That would be fun, helping out writing." She smiled at Grey. He was a good guy, sweet and determined and she liked that about him. "So, other than the paper, how's life going for you?"

The Monsters walk among us Callie was giving him a lot more advice than he had anticipated at this hour of the morning. Grey had never really thought of getting things done like that, especially when implanting new ideas. It definitely wasn’t a terrible approach by any means. Then again, he shouldn’t have expected anything less from someone that was both musically talented and had a knack for taking photos. There was a certain level of patience needed for both, but the only way to improve was to constantly push the barriers that were in the way. Writing had to be the same way too since it was just a different medium of art. “Thanks. I’m sure any time I’m hesitant about something it was a waterfall effect on the rest of the club too. Guess I’ll have to stay vigilant for everyone else’s sake.” He said, smiling at Callie. It felt good to be told that his hard work was worth it. Every once in a while they’d get praise for an article, but most of the time the other students would look over the paper without really absorbing the news. So this was a nice change, even if it was coming from a fellow club member. “No need to hurry on the article ideas. Didn’t mean to throw you under the spotlight.” Grey said, laughing. Any extra hands they had to do articles would be a huge help though, the more they had the less that everyone had to rush to get their newest pieces pushed out on print. Plus there was the obvious point that more writers brought in varying perspectives that catered to different audiences, thus bringing in more readership. All in all, it was extremely to have a large operation running, as long as he could handle all of it on his own. “Wow, how has life been going? Not really sure,” he said, laughing again. That was a difficult question sometimes. “Classes are fine I guess. More like they’ve never changed, so nothing new there. Other than that, I could do with a little more sleep. Those early morning classes are killer.” Especially the one he had left before getting to the Great Hall. Grey couldn’t figure out why professors wanted to hold classes that early in the morning. No one was ever awake, and it always resulted in points being taken away from all the houses because the class wouldn’t pay attention. At least Grey wasn’t the only one slacking off in it. “What about you? Besides music and photography, unless there’s a crazy story that goes along with one of those two.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie smiled, laughing slightly. "Well, I'm not saying you don't have to stress, because I don't think you won't, just try to be more confident in it all. It almost always comes out perfect and well thought out. And yes, I suppose it will help out with the other members and their stress level." Callie had her own experience with this as she was the co-captain of the orchestra. It could get extremely hard, especially trying to organize a whole scheme of music. But she knew that if she was excited and positive, so would the other students.
She rose an eyebrow at Grey and laughed along with him. "Well, this may be a muggle thing, but you know what works for me when I need sleep? Warm milk. It sounds weird, and probably disgusting, but it definitely helps you fall asleep." She laughed. Hopefully he had heard of that before, otherwise she'd just look like some nut job. But hey, that was okay too. She wondered what he meant by crazy story, because if he wanted one, she had plenty. Callie smiled with a small laugh, "My life is a crazy story, but that's a long story that I doubt you'd want to hear." She took a few more sips of coffee and glanced up at him. "I just try to keep my grades up, as well as making sure my little brother is okay and happy."

The Monsters walk among us Anything he could do to help the club become more efficient was a plus in Grey’s eyes. A confidence boost on his end would be a great help for everyone. He definitely didn’t want the paper to become boring because all the members were complacent like he was most of the time. On the contrary, the club was one of the only places Grey felt like he could get hyped and excited for. There was something special about having his own personal project. “Less stress would be wonderful.” Grey laughed when he pictured everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off. That was literally what it felt like when deadlines came up for big editions of the paper. The daily paper was never really an issue since the articles were planned out and completed well in advance, but the mad scramble to complete the weekend issue was almost always a nightmare. As things normally went when rushed, mistakes were made and problems occurred. That’s why he was there though, and they had yet to miss one of their deadlines. That was a pretty decent accomplishment. Grey listened intently as Callie explained that warm milk was a good remedy for sleep. Interesting…muggles had such strange customs sometimes. “You know, I’ve never tried it, but a sleeping potion of sorts would work right? Only thing is, I wouldn’t want it to knock me out for a week straight. Knowing my luck it would happen.” Potions were scary things sometimes, and Grey had always struggled with them. He had made up for it in the past few years, but he was still hesitant about trying his hand at it. His entire boy shuddered at the thought of knocking himself out cold with a potion gone wrong. What a mess that would be. It was still worth a shot though. “Have any ideas on which potions could work? One that won’t make my hair light on fire or turn me into a three-headed toad preferably?” That would be all that he needed, with school and newspaper duties. “Don’t we all have crazy lives, in some little way?” Recently Grey had been having an easier time, outside of the paper, so it was nice to think that he was through the thick of it. Personal demons that he had been fighting were finally starting to go away. Although the more pressing ones still existed, he hoped that with time they would also be resolved. Ironically, he was thinking about the problems with his sisters when Callie brought up a younger sibling. “You have a younger sibling too? Has he started school yet?” At least one of them seemed to do better with family than the other. Grey was kind of an awful brother, and he knew that. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie laughed and nodded her head along with Grey. That was true, less stress would be nice. For anyone's life, of course, not just theirs. "I believe there are some sleeping potions..." She let out a small breath, thinking. Her eyes glanced down to some of her photos, her brain trying to rack up an answer for him. "Oh! Yes! A sleeping draught. There should be instructions for it in one of our books we have." Callie smiled at him.
Then with a nod of her head, Callie couldn't help but laugh. Craziness was something that she was positive popped up in everyone's life from time to time. Hers was just filled with crazy. He asked about her brother and Callie nodded her head. "Yes, he's a fourth year. His name's Jude, he's a Gryffindor as well. I also have three other siblings, but Jude and I were adopted by them." She smiled. It wasn't hard for her to tell people that she was adopted anymore; Callie was proud of being adopted. It made her who she was.

The Monsters walk among us Grey contemplated the side effects of a sleeping draught. He definitely remembered seeing one in his potions book like Callie had indicated, but there were too many risks to it. If he got a script from the nurse for it though, surely he could convince the potions professor that he needed it. Then again, Grey wasn’t exactly on the best of terms in potions. It was so hard to stay awake that early even if he had gotten sleep the night before. But a sleeping potion to keep him awake in class was definitely a good pitch to the professor. “I definitely wouldn’t be able to do it on my own. While I’m not bad at potions, there’s too many places I could screw up. Like I said, I don’t want to make a mistake on something so simple.” Maybe it wasn’t as a great an idea as he had initially thought. He was so close to being done with school, so screwing it up with a sleeping potion before graduating would be horrible. Callie then talked about her younger brother. He hadn’t really taken her as an older sibling, but then again, most people didn’t think he was either. Hell, he didn’t even think he had he stuff to be an older sibling. He was awful towards Addi. Grey wasn’t sure if he made a visible reaction when Callie mentioned she was adopted. As far as he knew, there didn’t seem to be a ton of adopted students at Hogwarts. If there were, they definitely kept it to themselves. Sometimes he wondered if he was adopted, being so different from his sisters. He knew that wasn’t true, but still…it had crossed his mind before. “Sounds like a pretty big family then.” Grey smiled at her. He didn’t know how adoption really worked with the magical community, but it didn’t look like she was bitter about it. Probably having her brother with her helped out a lot. “Do you get along with all of them?” He couldn’t help asking. Grey wasn’t really sure how siblings were supposed to act around each other, so if ones that were related legally could do it, why couldn’t he? MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie nodded her head in agreement. That was definitely not a chance she'd be willing to take either. Some potions were very intricate and detailed, and while she herself enjoyed Potions and brewing them, they got difficult. Messing one up was not something someone would enjoy...ever. "That is true. Potions can be scary sometimes." Callie gave Grey a small smile. She wished she knew of other ways he could sleep. Well, there was one...but it was a muggle form. She tilted her head. "There is something you could take...but it's a muggle item. It's a pill, like medicine. It helps you fall asleep. And it isn't dangerous, either."
His reaction to her being adopted wasn't like most others, but magical folk would be shocked and confused. Grey on the other hand kept his cool demeanor and didn't freak out like others usually did. "Yes, it is a pretty big family. Three brothers and one sister plus myself, and my mom's." That was the other thing that people were confused about. How did two women have five children together? She'd probably end up explaining it, but she didn't mind. Callie enjoyed her new family, they made her happy. Callie smiled back at Grey, "I do get along with all of them, thankfully. We've all had our arguments, especially myself and Mariana." She laughed. Her sister was definitely something else.

The Monsters walk among us Grey held his breath in for a few seconds as Callie mentioned the muggle form of sleep help: pills. He had nothing against muggles, but they dosed themselves up too much on medicine. Sure, there were definitely witches and wizards that fell into this trap as well, becoming extremely dependent on them, or even on potions to relieve their maladies. The more they talked about ways to knock him out at night, the more resistant he was to the whole idea. Potions on occasion were fine, but muggle sleeping pills was a whole different game that he wasn’t really ready to play. “I’m not sure about muggle drugs…you hear those stories all the time, about people getting messed up from them. Not that I don’t think I’ll get addicted or anything, it’s just the last thing I have on my list of things not to do.” Muggles had become extremely innovative in the last ten years. He recalled his parents talking about how that could possibly affect whether or not they’d ever discover the magical world. So far, they had done a good job advancing on their own without any (or little) magical influence on how to do things. But their drugs and medicine would never reach the possibilities that magic had achieved centuries ago, especially when treating injuries. “That’s good then. I don’t really know much about adoption, but if things work out, then hopefully that’s how it stays.” He hoped that didn’t sound like he was skirting the bigger question that was now bugging him. If Callie and her brother had been adopted, that meant one of two things in their world, usually: their parents had been killed, or were permanently in St. Mungo’s. Unfortunately Grey had heard about numerous stories of students losing their parents, whether through foul play or accidents. It was inevitable in a world that was controlled with magical powers. “I guess some people are able to get along with their siblings. But that’s why they’re there right? At the end of the day you still have to love them for who they are.” Sometimes Grey wondered if that was really how he felt, or just a façade that he had learned to put on. He definitely cared about his sisters, but whether or not that was reciprocated, he was unsure. Obviously talking to them was the best way to find out. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie gave Grey a nod. That was true. Being raised in the muggle world, Callie knew certain side effects of particular drugs could get pretty bad. But then again, some pills helped people, and they did their purpose. Granted, you should only use them if they are doctor prescribed, but not everyone followed that rule. "No offense taken, I completely understand."
As Grey spoke about adoption, Callie knew the question he desperately wanted to ask. Having been adopted for awhile, Callie was used to the first conversation about it. She could usually tell when people wanted to know a particular thing, and she wasn't embarrassed about it; it just upset her. Callie smiled. "Have you ever heard of the car? A muggle vehicle?" She asked him with an eyebrow raised. "Well, one night my dad drank too much and he crashed it, which killed my mother. So...he's in jail now, which I suppose is like the wizard Azkaban." Callie missed her mum more than she missed her dad, but that wasn't anything she needed to point out.
"Yes, that is what they're there for. I love Jude more and more as the days go on."

The Monsters walk among us Had he heard of a car before? That was a silly question, Grey thought to himself, pondering where Callie was going with all of this. It was hard to miss cars these days, maybe way back when it was strange for witches and wizards to drive them, but Grey saw it as pretty normal these days. Hell, even he had practiced driving a few times. His parents thought it would be a good idea to learn in case he met a nice muggle girl before one that knew magic. While the thought was a nice one, it was still another example of them trying to control what he did in the future. At least they didn’t arrange a marriage for him or something. That would have definitely been crossing the line. What he hadn’t been expecting from that strange question was the stuff Callie said after it. About her parents. He had definitely wondered a few minutes ago about why she and her brother were adopted but had never intended to actually ask that question. There were some things that people didn’t need to know unless absolutely necessary, and Grey had assumed that this was one of those things. Apparently he was wrong. To add to that, he wasn’t sure what to say in a situation like this. Callie seemed like she was fine; at least fine enough to talk about it. Grey could tell that his brow was furrowed, he could feel the muscles straining as he tried to figure it out. Taking another sip of coffee. Before he could say anything though, Callie continued, agreeing with him about why siblings are around. He still didn’t know if he should respond to the earlier statement or not. Instead, he decided to nod along to show that he understood. He was sure she had heard everything there was to hear at this point, he figured there was no more new discussion to add to it. “Someday I’ll get things figured out with my sisters. Seems like it’s impossible right now, but I’m sure if I try, it’ll work out eventually.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Callie didn't mind Grey not responding. Maybe it was a bit too straightforward, but many people always were questioning it in their head. And she herself didn't understand that; why not just ask what you were thinking? It made everything much easier and if people were offended then oh well, you can't apologize for your brain and where it ends up. So she just smiled gently, not saying anything either.
"I'm sure you will. Sister's are difficult, I can imagine. I know I'm pretty hard on Jude." Callie didn't like admitting that, she assumed she was a great sister but she also knew that some times came when she was overloading her little brother. "You'll figure it out. But hey, I've actually got to go. I have a class in a few minutes. It was nice talking to you Grey, I can't wait for the first meeting." Callie picked up all of her photos and placed them into her camera bag. She took the coffee with her and waved as she left the Great Hall.

The Monsters walk among us He let out a loud laugh as Callie said that she could imagine sisters being difficult. A couple of heads at the Gryffindor table turned around quickly to see what was up. Obviously nothing interesting, it was just Grey laughing. Was that actually strange? He did laugh pretty often, or at least liked to think that he did. “It’s tough being in the middle, even if it’s only by a year. I definitely understand my younger sister more than the older one.” He had an inkling that it was mostly because he was similar to Claire in almost every category. So many of his early years at Hogwarts had been spent trying to gain her and their parents approval that it was almost impossible not to turn out like her. She had been his idol, now she meant almost nothing to him, other than being a reminder that he was supposed to aspire to be like her. Just thinking about that disgusted him. Individuality was definitely more fun than being a carbon copy of your older sister. “If you get along though, then I guess it means he either ignores it, or appreciates it.” He added, about Callie apparently being hard on her younger brother. Grey found it hard to believe that she could be like that, but then again, he really only knew her through the club. “Yeah, of course. Sorry to keep you so long.” Grey said as he watched Callie collect all of her photos. Hopefully one or two of the ones they had already talked about would be used at some point or another for articles. She had a talent that the rest of the club was definitely lacking. A lot of what they had talked about, in that regard, was definitely going to be brought up during their meeting later on. Insight like that was something Grey never really managed to do on his own, so it was nice to have outside perspective from time to time. He waved as Callie left the Great Hall and turned back to finish off his coffee. He was positive that he had something to do, but couldn’t remember what it was. Instead, Grey grabbed another cup of coffee and opened up a copy of the Daily Prophet. This was probably more interesting than whatever he was forgetting. [THE END] MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
