Jamie was a little taken aback by Elias snapping that it was a little overwhelming, his tone implying that it was way more than that. The corners of her lips turned down, but by then it was too late to bring Elias back from his spiral. He had already decided that he wanted to be away from her, and he wasn’t going to be swayed. Jamie felt a pang in her stomach when he said that he couldn’t. He couldn’t stay and talk to her, even though she was his half-sister. She had thought that she was done being rejected by her siblings, but apparently there was still one good rejection left between the lot of them. Jamie watched as her new half-brother walked away, saying that he’d see her at school. That didn’t seem likely anymore. Jamie let him leave, still clutching the teddy bear to her chest as she watched him walk away.
