overall personality:
oscar has been told his entire life that he’s attractive, so naturally, that’s had some effect on him. he was conditioned to believe that his physical looks were the only thing of any worth to people, so naturally he applied that same concept onto all the people he met; anyone who wasn’t attractive wasn’t worth his time. he knows that he’s vain and shallow, but this methodology hasn’t done him too much wrong in the long run, though it had led to some awkward conversations. asking ozzy to look past the physical is difficult, because he’s been told so many times that his only worth is physical.
because of this vanity and belief that he’s only something nice to look at, oscar hasn’t been the most motivated of students. for the subjects he cares about, though, ozzy works hard and relentlessly towards the pursuit of knowledge, and reveals himself to be rather bright. he’s one of those students that teachers either say need to apply themselves more to call brilliant students – there is no in between for him. his inconsistency can be frustrating for a lot of people, but oscar thinks that it’s a perfectly fine way of living and learning.
one of oscar’s final personality points is his temper. he can hold out for a long time before snapping at people, but when he does, it’d be best if you were at least ten miles away. the problem with ozzy’s long fuse, though, is that he never tells people when they’re annoying him; he just expects them to know. this can make him seem a lot more volatile than he actually is, since he can sit and stew for a long while before exploding without anyone ever knowing there was a problem in the first place.

history:
oscar’s life was remarkably unremarkable for a long while. the only thing really notable about his childhood was the fact that he had two mothers instead of the traditional nuclear family, which obviously includes a father in the picture. not having a father didn’t really affect oscar that much, and for the longest time he didn’t realize that other kids his age didn’t have two moms like he did. when he did have that realization, oscar shrugged it off – it was just something that made his family special, and every young kids likes to feel special.
going off to beauxbatons was scary for oscar, since he had never been separated from his mothers before. he didn’t have any classes that stuck out as a particular favorite; he did just well enough to slide past, but didn’t find anything he was passionate about. everything changed, though, when he hit puberty. oscar grew to be somewhat of a heartthrob – every girl wanted to date him, and every boy wanted to be him. his studies fell to the wayside while he spent all of his time flirting and doing…other things that would make his mothers cover their eyes.
everything changed again, though, when ozzy found a professor who changed his life. his history of magic professor, madame moreau, told oscar that he could be so much more than just a playboy. girls could like him for his smarts, instead of just his looks. he began to work harder in that class, and his charms and alchemy classes, too, though there were still some classes where he was less than an amazing student – mostly the ones that bored him.
oscar’s life became remarkable three months before his coming of age. his mothers were both killed in a double homicide that the police hesitated to call a hate crime, but looked a lot like one. in a stunning turn of events, one of the law enforcement officers working on the homicide case was already a registered foster parent, and he offered to take ozzy under his wing, knowing that the situation would be entirely temporary. the two ended up bonding, though, and his new faux-father continued to encourage oscar to pursue his academic success. oscar didn’t like the change in social standing that would come with becoming a so-called nerd, but he did work even harder, even in the classes he didn’t like so much. he wanted to make his new father proud, even though he was still grieving his mothers’ deaths.
more grieving was to come, though. oscar’s father was killed in the line of duty, and he went to his third funeral in six months. oscar leaned on his best friend caden for support through the whole thing. caden’s aunt was living in britain, and oscar found out that it was not just france that was suffering a string of tragedies; hogwarts, the wizarding school there, had been attacked and there seemed to be all sorts of plots to end lives. oscar didn’t really think anything of it, until he was told that he was visiting hogwarts to participate in the triwizard tournament. due to his less-than-stellar performance in his earlier years of school, oscar was surprised that he was one of the chosen, but his headmaster told him that madame moreau had been a steadfast advocate for oscar’s nomination.
faced with going to a new place where death seemed to run rampant, ozzy was oddly not scared. everyone he loved had died, except for caden, but his best friend wasn’t part of the delegation to hogwarts, and he would be safe. everyone would be safe, and everything would be okay. it had to be.
