Xan didn't really like the hospital wing. It was too white for her tastes. Xan liked things to be colorful and bright, not sterile and clean. Still, she didn't expect her stay in the hospital wing to be a long one. She had been running a fever the day the train had left for school, and her mother had only allowed her to go on the train with the stipulation that as soon as she got to school, she would visit Nurse Blacksmith to see if the source of her fever was magical or not. The thing about the hospital wing was that it was boring when you were on your own, especially when you were waiting for results to tests you didn't know the meaning of. Xan had jotted Hugo a quick note to ask him to come visit her in the hospital wing, though she hadn't specified the exact reason why she was there in the first place - she didn't want to worry him.

Being asked to meet Xan in the Hospital Wing was enough to shoot worry through him, but he knew that nothing serious could really be wrong. He would know in advanced, he'd held her hand and hugged her enough to and hadn't seen anything different yet. I mean, she still could be losing an arm or something... that wasn't clear in the dream. That would be upsetting mostly because it would be uncomfortable for her. Okay there was no reason making up why she was in the wing anyway. He approached the wing as she asked and slipped inside, smiling when he saw her. "Hey Xan," he greeted warmly, crossing straight to her and placing a hand on her shoulder, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek (which caused him to blush even now) and smiled at her, "what's going on?" he asked.

When Hugo came through the door of the hospital wing, Xan felt a little better. He greeted her and she waved a little, despite the fact that he was close enough that it was unnecessary. His lips were cool on her cheek, and she smiled at that. “I’ve had a fever for a while – not a high one, but a fever – and my mom said I should go to the hospital wing when school started. She didn’t want me to be in Mungo’s and miss the start of term.” Xan shrugged. “I was kind of bored here on my own, and I wanted someone to talk to, and you were the first person I thought of.” Hugo was often the first person she thought of, if she was being honest. She also could have asked her brother, but Zac would probably be more annoying than helpful. “How was your first day of term?” She asked conversationally, not wanting to focus on the fact that she could be sick.

As she spoke of her fever and that she wanted some company, he tilted his head to the side and his eyes narrowed suspiciously. She burned through that explanation pretty quick and that probably meant that she was more worried about this than she was letting on... but if she didn't want to talk about it in detail just yet then he wasn't going to force her. He smiled and nodded, returning his face to normal when she asked how his first day of terms was. "Good," she said, slipping his hand into hers, giving his a tight squeeze, "I'm sorry about that fever, though. Have you talked to the nurse yet?" he asked, glancing around a bit to find any clues to answer his question. He turned back to her, lifting his free hand to gently touch her forehead.

Hugo probably realized how worried she was just by how fast she had explained away the situation, Xan realized. Well, talking about it wasn’t going to make any of her problems go away, now was it? She was determined to divert the conversation away from the hospital wing related things, but Hugo seemed just as determined to keep it on course. “Yeah, she’s running some tests.” Xan said. She hadn’t asked what kind of tests they were – she wasn’t interested in mediwizard stuff, and she wouldn’t have understood the answer anyways, so it seemed kind of pointless. “Have you talked to any of the new Gryffindors?” She persisted in trying to take Hugo’s mind off of the fact they were in the hospital wing. “A lot of the new Ravenclaws seem determined to live up to the whole intelligence thing. They’ve already started studying for classes, even if half of them don’t know which way to hold their wands.” She laughed a little at that, though not maliciously – Xan just thought that the first years’ eagerness was cute.

Running some tests. That sounded pretty standard but it still sent a jolt through him. He nodded, "good, well, I'll wait here til you hear back, of course," he smiled softly. Then she was asking about the first years and whatnot and his smile grew a little more. She was trying to distract him, but he was okay with that. It helped him calm down a little. "That's cute," he chuckled, about the Ravenclaw firsties. "I haven't talked to many of ours in Gryffindor, honestly. They do seem to be on board with the reckless thing though," he chuckled. He cleared his throat and shrugged, "I've been too busy daydreaming, you know," he chuckled. @xanthippe (song I'm listening to: everything's magic

Xan was grateful for Hugo's company - she normally didn't worry much, but this whole situation felt a little off to her. "Thanks, Hu." She said with a smile. "I wouldn't call it cute. I don't like it when the first years think that they only belong in Ravenclaw if they're smart." There was so much more to her house - creativity and passion and curiosity were all just as important as book smarts. Xan fancied herself a Ravenclaw in more facets than one, since she had both the creativity and thirst for knowledge. "Oh dear." Xan laughed when Hugo said the new first years were reckless. "Poor Nurse Blacksmith is going to have her hands full between me and all of them, huh?" She hoped that the younger kids grew out of their recklessness quickly - the nurse didn't need to spend all her time mending bones. "Daydreaming about what, exactly?" Xan asked with raises eyebrows when Hugo mentioned he had been busy doing just that. As far as she was concerned, her life was wonderful enough without adding any fantasy.

Hugo shrugged, "I just think it's cute that they're so young and gullible. You know? I remember my first year, thinking that recklessness and bravery were supposed to be such a big deal."
He chuckled as Xan talked about the nurse having her hands full, "eh, they'll get over it. Once the older kids stop encouraging them," he rolled his eyes. He didn't like the way she included herself in that keeping the nurses hands full... because that could imply this was serious. He didn't comment on it.
He shrugged at her asking what he daydreamed about, he cleared his throat and feigned an innocent look, "just about the next moment I'll see you," he said, and his jokingly innocent look was gone quickly. "I always try to plan something witty to say to you but then when you're in front of me I forget what I planned," he smiled.

Xan smiled a little at Hugo's recount of when he was younger. She didn't have many memories of her first year at school, mostly because she was so distraught about leaving Zac and Winnie. Many first years did have problems with balance, though, so Xan could understand why, as students who has more or less found balance, it was amusing to see the younger kids try to find the same success.
"I think that's the worst thing about Gryffindors - you guys always egg each other on." Xan said with a chuckle. Ravenclaws encouraged each other to study, of course, but they also knew when to pull each other away from the books for the good of their sanities.
Her smile flickered back to life when Hugo said he daydreamed about the next time he'd see her. She was the same way sometimes, though she'd never gone so far as to plan what she was going to say. "If you ever remember, I'm eager to hear what kind of witty remarks you have." She said. Xan was going to continue with their teasing when a nurse - not Nurse Blacksmith, but one of the other staff - approached and informed her that she had an appointment at St. Mungo's a week from Sunday. That certainly put a damper on Xan's mood.

Hugo nodded and he bit his lip at Xans comment. "Ooh, I know. It's always Truth or Dare in there... minus the truth option," he chuckled too. It was pretty true, though. The Gryffindor common room was often a big riot. "But we have our limits too," he added, though he didn't seem entirely convincing. They really did, though! It was just hard to see in some of them. Especially the seventh years who were reckless to get out into the real world.
"Of course," he promised when she said she was eager to hear what remarks he had planned. When the Nurse approached, saying that Xan had an appointment with Saint Mungo's, Hugos stomach did a flip. He took Xan's hand as the nurse walked away and turned to her, "the bright side is if it was super serious they'd send you right now, right?" he was trying to be optimistic, but he knew that he was just grasping at straws here. He was severely worried now, and he couldn't even imagine how Xan was feeling.

Truth or dare without the truth? That sounded dangerous…but actually surprisingly fun. Maybe Xan was spending too much time with all of her Gryffindor acquaintances – well, her Gryffindor siblings and boyfriend. “I hope that you use your fake clairvoyant skills for good in those kinds of situations.” Xan said, the corners of her lips turning up in a smile. She knew a thing or two about Hugo’s impressive skill at faking clairvoyance…then again, he had gotten her a new Chocolate Frog card, so it wasn’t like she could complain.
Xan appreciated that Hugo was trying to see the positive even in light of the fact that she was going to the hospital within the week. “I guess you’re right.” She said, once again pasting on a smile. “Now that we know what’s going on…well, as long as we have a plan to know what’s going on…You can go if you want. Or, not go, if you don’t want.” She said, looking away from Hugo for a moment to look down at her fingernails. “Watch out for those little daredevils, huh?”

Hugo laughed as Xan mentioned the 'fake clairvoyant' skills. "Awe, alas, those skills only work in your presence," he joked, looking off toward the high point of the wall with a wisftul, dreamy air about him. All for jokings sake, of course. Anything to make Xan laugh.
Xan clearly looked worried, even though she said words that sounded like she agreed with his optimism. They were on the same page, then. He frowned as she went on, awkwardly telling him he could leave but kind of asking him to stay at the same time? She looked down at her hands and suggested that he look out for the 'daredevils', as if he had decided to leave.
He shook his head thought and scooted beside her, moving closer, placing his hand on her knee but facing it up as an offering for her to take it. "I think I'd prefer to stay here with you, if that's all right," his voice was soft and he attempted to sound soothing as best he could. He knew that pretending they weren't worried wasn't going to last, so he decided to end that charade. He lifted his other hand and gently tapped her chin, encouraging her to look up at him, "I'm worried too," he said firmly.

“Ooh, I’m special?” Xan teased when Hugo said his faux skills only worked in her presence. “You know, if I knew I was going to be spending this long in the hospital wing, I would have brought my card collection so I can figure out who I still need.” She had found a list in a collector’s book of all of the Chocolate Frog cards there were, and had been spending the better part of her Chocolate Frog eating days obsessing over the list and finding the ones she was still missing. She hadn’t updated her list in a while, and it would have been nice busy work. Maybe she would ask one of her Ravenclaw friends to get it for her, since they were more likely to be able to get past the riddle – then again, she had made a point of showing Hugo that he could get into the Ravenclaw common room if he tried.
The Ravenclaw smiled to herself when Hugo said that she’d rather stay with her. She put her hand on top of his when he offered it, lacing their fingers together. “You know what my mom would say if she was here?” Xan asked, forcing her smile wider. “She would say that there’s no point in worrying over something that we can’t control. We can start worrying after I go to St. Mungo’s, if we need to worry at all.” There was some of that Meagle optimism that Xan was famous for!

Hugo grinned at her teasing and shrugged, "I would think that your being special would be old news," he mused. Then she spoke of bringing her card collection, "I could run and get it but... we might be done here by the time I get back and then I would have missed all that time sitting with you!" He made a face of mock woe, but he couldn't keep his smile away for long. Even at his worst, Hugos mouth seemed to not accept if he was ever in a bad mood. It always wanted to smile, to remind him that everything was going to be fine... especially right now, he couldn't stand to believe anything else. Hugo raised an eyebrow as she started to speak of what her mom would say if she was there. She was right, of course, and Hugo's smile only grew larger. "I agree. Let's worry later and," he smirked as he got an idea, "worry later, kiss now. She'd say that, right?" he chuckled, leaning in toward her, but he wouldn't kiss her unless she closed the gap. He wasn't like that when he could help it. He preferred a team effort. @xanthippe (i think we can actually wrap this up with your next post or mine! montage out or something

“Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded every once in a while.” Xan replied with a wink. “Just so you know, you’re special, too.” Hugo had always been special to her, but he was even more so now that they were together. She didn’t want him ever thinking that he was just one person in a sea of faces. In a big family like his, that seemed to be a common worry, but Xan really didn’t care about the other Weasleys. Rose was her friend, of course, and she loved Uncle Ron when he wasn’t worrying about silly things, but otherwise…Well, Hugo would always be the only Weasley with the key to her heart. “It’s fine, Hu. I’m sure someone will be around later and I can beg them to do it.” She wasn’t sure if either of her siblings would be able to access the dormitory, but it was a start.
“Worry later, kiss now.” Xan repeated with a smile, leaning forward to kiss Hugo softly. There would be plenty of time to worry later, when she was alone. “I’m not sure if that’s exactly what she’d say, but I like it.” She liked the phrase, and she liked Hugo, and for now, that was all she needed.
