@emma <3 Dangerous was right. He laughed, nodding his head. "Definitely dangerous. My friend is actually in the hospital right now, she got crushed by a troll." It obviously wasn't funny, but Isla was fine, and with the way Carter had repeated the injury, it did actually sound a bit amusing. However in general it wasn't too terrible. Sometimes the trolls could even be nice. "The trolls definitely bring some amusement to your day."
'What are you doing at the orphanage?" Carter didn't know anyone that worked there, he actually was pretty sure Cassius volunteered his healing abilities there sometimes but he couldn't be too positive. "Do you know my brother? Cassius Leonato?" Granted she had just begun working there but who knows? People meet quickly, especially in an environment like that one.

@jill10 Crushed by a troll? Emma felt her eyes go wide with shock, that sounded like it was incredibly dangerous. "Well, is your friend alright?" she blurted out, interrupting his comment about trolls and amusement. He couldn't just drop something like that and not expect her to react. Then again, they had just met and he didn't really know her. "I am still learning the ropes, actually. I really have only worked a few days so far." She said, blushing. Here they were, both just out of school and he was already working into his profession. What did she have to show for her schooling? Not much so far. "I don't think I have met him yet, but if he spends any time at the orphanage, I am sure that I will." She assured him, trying to cover up her embarrassment.

@emma <3 Carter laughed at her reaction. It was expected, but it was funny to watch as well. Even so, Carter nodded his head. "Yes she is okay, still at St. Mungo's, but she's recovering thankfully. She misses work, actually." He had gone to see Isla not too long ago, and she was itching to get out of the hospital.
"Well he actually is a healer at Hogwarts, and I thought he volunteered at the Orphanage but I'd have to double check with him and see if he actually does or not because I'm not sure.' He laughed. "And that's alright, there isn't anything wrong with that! You'll get the hang of it, no worries."

@jill10 She blushed as he laughed, but the smile on her face told that she wasn't too embarrassed. Sometimes, she spoke without thinking, for better or worse she had become used to people laughing at the comments she made. "Well good. Next time you should lead dangerous stories with that. 'Everyone is fine but...' Leaves much less room for interpretation. " She was actually terrified of trolls. Well, not trols exclusively, more wild creatures in general. Creatures like that frightened her, how could she protect her family from things she didn't know how to control? She knew it was silly, she didn't worry about storms or dark wizards... just wild creatures. But everyone has strange things sometimes they worry about. "I'll ask about him next time I go to work. Cassius, you said?" she made a mental note to remember to ask Freddie when she went in tomorrow. "So... Trolls. Babies. Two pretty opposite lines of work." she teased, grabbing a candy out of one of her bags and popping it in her mouth. Her sandwich sat half eaten on her plate, it was crazy how quickly her appetite changed from one craving to the next. She grabbed and handful and set it on the table, offering one to Carter before starting to play with the candies as they talked. She organized them into rows, shifting each one so it was in a perfect line.

@emma <3 Carter nodded his head. "Well hey that's not a terrible idea! Maybe I will." He smiled. There was definitely less room for interpretation, but sometimes Carter enjoyed making people nervous. It was just his whole personality and attitude. Joking around and giving people crap was one of his favorite past times and it gave him some humor and things to laugh at. Not that he was making fun of Emma, but he just found it fun.
"Yes, Cassius. And they're definitely two opposites, yes. And my other brother works at The Ministry." Carter smirked. They were all...quite different from each other yet alike all at the same time. However, Cassius was more reserved, while Caden was very outgoing and happy all of the time. But Carter supposed he had to be, having children and all that. "But Caden is a father, so there's a bit more about him."

@carter Emma smiled, a real smile. She hadn't had many of those recently. Carter just helped her feel so at ease as he talked about his brothers. Caden, his brother was a father... memories were triggered and her face fell. She didn't deserve to be happy with someone so kind as Carter. Not with what she had done. She glanced down at the table, picking up one of her candies and eating it. "It sounds like you have a nice family." she said, forcing some cheer back into her voice as she looked back up at him. She only had to make it through this lunch, then she could let him down nicely. She didn't have to put him through getting to know her, and the things she had done to get where she was today.

@emma <3 Carter liked her smile. It was beautiful, and he would tell her that but he didn't want to push her away so soon. She was sweet, and he genuinely wanted to know her better; obviously they had known each other in school, but now they were out of school and Carter was curious as to who she was and what she was like, what her likes were and what she enjoyed doing. For some reason, her smile immediately disappeared. He rose his eyebrows as he studied her face. Emma looked upset, and not just a small hint of upset, but terribly sad.
"Why thank you, Emma. I do suppose they're alright." Carter chuckled as he tilted his head. He leaned back in his chair slightly and nodded up to her. "You alright there, Emma? Anything you want to talk about?" Granted, they had just remet not even more than an hour prior, but he didn't want her to be upset for any reason, especially if it was something he had just said.

@jill10 He noticed. Emma was hoping he wouldn't have noticed her sudden mood change. Well, sudden things did attract attention. But his manner about adressing it? Casual, comforting... inviting. She found herself wanting to tell him, everything. But she wouldn't go down that road. Not with him. Never. Shaking her head, she shrugged. "I'm fine. Just... some unpleasant thoughts intruding on our lunch." she explained. But it turns out she wasn't completely in control. She leaned forward as she talked. "Have you ever done something you knew was wrong, but for a good reason?" her question was sinceiere, but it startled her. That was dangerously close to the truth.

@emma <3 Her question was a bit unusual. But as Carter sat and thought, he was curious as to what she meant. Unpleasant thoughts...Carter couldn't recall anything he might've done that was too terrible. Yes, he had done tons of pranks on his friends and peers while at Hogwarts, but they hadn't been bad, nor were they really for good reasons besides his own amusement. Nor could Carter think of anything that might've happened with his two older brothers or parents. He bit his lip, tilting his head at her as she leaned forward closer to him, her voice gentle. "I don't think so, no, Emma." Carter's face became concerned as he looked into her eyes. "Have you?" It was a rhetorical question, but he was hoping she'd let out more than she meant to.
