My dearest friend,
Rough day at Mungos today, Care. I had a teenager brought in a few days ago by someone who had found her lying near the London Bridge. She had obviously been cursed, thank God it was a witch who found her. We're still trying to find out who the girls parents are, but there were so many curses on her it was nearly impossible to recognize the face.
I know that sounds morbid, and it gets worse. She passed away this morning. We did everything we could.
Are there any fourth or fifth years missing from school that you've heard of? I don't know what kind of information you get, working in the Hospital wing, but let me know if you hear anything. We're working on a blood sample of hers now, but it's a little corrupted from the curses.
How do I do this every day? It's almost not worth it for all the fail cases. Ah, you know I don't mean that, Caroline. I'm just needing a little encouragement and I miss you! How is Hogwarts? How are the students? How is it being back?
Love, Connie

My lovely Connie,
I am heartbroken to hear such terrible news! Especially in the light of all that has happened. My thoughts are with the girl's family.
You did everything you could, Con. I know you and your nurses are the best in London, and if the lot of you did all you could, I don't think much else could have been prevented, regretfully so. I do not believe there are any fourth or fifth years missing... But Con, something can't help but bother me about this poor girl... You don't think that the same person who committed the murder on the train cursed that poor girl, do you? I cannot bear the thought.
I miss you, as well, my dear. Hogwarts is different this year. With the student murder, and all. I have yet to see many students to the Wing, though, aside from the usual "tummy aching" first years (whom are really just homesick.) I'm... afraid, it seems, dear. I'm afraid not of this mysterious wizard, but for the children. They've killed one, who is to say they won't kill another? Or curse another innocent girl?
I am afraid everything is going to change this year.
With love, Caroline @constancekase

Caroline,
I can't imagine what you're dealing with at Hogwarts trying to find a murderer. I'm afraid, and hoping that my fears are proved wrong, that you will get many more cases in your ward if this person continues to harm others. I would not be surprised if it was the same person who injured my patient.
We received the blood report and it turns out this girl was indeed a muggle. She is being taken care of by a few of my staff to make sure a muggle coroner is able to identify her and notify her family. Why would a muggle child be attacked by a wizard? Unless this person were deranged to the core. It is very possible that our perpetrator is a muggleborn, muggle hating beast.
Things are getting darker, aren't they? The students who come into my ward to visit sick parents have made it very clear to me that trouble is brewing at Hogwarts.
Is the headmaster considering shutting down the school for the search? What are the plans to deal with this horrid situation?
Stay strong,
Connie

Dear Connie,
While I love my patients, you know I wish I do not want to treat students under such sad and tragic circumstances. I would much rather stick to treating the silly and accident-prone Gryffindor Quidditch team all year than have to have extremely injured students come through my ward. I'm afraid they would end up getting passed to Mungo's, or yourself.
This is absolutely horrid news. Muggles dying now, as well? This is getting too far and I wish deeply that our Minister would do something about these murders. But alas, it is not my place to question political authority. No matter how much I truly disagree.
I am not sure what Headmaster Reynolds has in store for the school. As far as I know, the school will continue to run. However, I have gotten word that there are Aurors being stationed at the school. Perhaps to ensure the safety of the students, so... I assume that this is the idea of the Headmaster? However, as a nurse I am sometimes left out of such informative details.
Stay strong, yourself, my dear.
With love, Caroline @constancekase

Caroline,
Well, you know that if you need to transfer anyone here I will do my best to help them, if they are indeed injured with curses. It seems like that would be the case in the situation at hand. Awe, I remember the days when I was an accident prone Gryffindor Quidditch team member. It was almost more dangerous being a chaser than it was being a beater, back then, my team didn't aim well. Those were the days.
Politics are a touchy subject here at the hospital. Our Director, Althea, has been fighting off the hand of the ministry for weeks. According to her, they have been trying to undermine our authority and want deep detailed information about everyone who gets admitted. That entirely defeats the purpose of confidentiality! It's really making us... uncomfortable. I don't know how else to put it.
Hmm, I suppose I can understand sending Aurors to the school. I'll have to ask a few of my friends and see who is being stationed there. I wish you a year full of tummy aches and Quidditch owwies.
Love, Connie

Dear Connie,
I'm sure you were quite the Chase, m'dear. And accident prone to boot, being a Gryffindor. Those silly lions do love to get into trouble.
Well, I commend her fighting them off for that. While I am not big on discussing politics, I will say that they should keep their noses out of matters that they don't understand, that being medicine. They should stick to politics. Oh, dear, if they persist, you let me know. I'm sure something could easily be done to get them to keep their dirty little snouts out of Mungo's!
Oh, yes, do ask around! I'm afraid I don't know many Aurors myself and I would like to know if I will have to keep my guard up or not. I hope they are sending respectable men and women into this castle and not some crackpot fools!
Enough of politics, my dear. How are you, really? I'm afraid we haven't spoken in so long I'm not even sure of how your personal life is going.
With love, Caroline @constancekase

Caroline,
Well, isn't that the truth. Us silly lions couldn't take anything seriously, but at least we've grown up. Well, some of us have. We weren't as kind as you Huffles, that's for certain. But those days seem like so long ago! Almost as if we never went to school. It must seem a little longer for you though, I'm sure. Still strange to think we weren't really classmates.
I appreciate how much you care about the goings on at the Hospital. I think Althea will handle it well, though. Especially because being on her bad side is like trying to take a nap in quicksand. You may think you're comfortable and safe, but the next moment you're completely covered in mud and begging for a branch . Haha, that was a strange analogy but it was the first thing that came to mind.
So far I haven't been able to get any information as to who is going to Hogwarts, I think they are trying to keep it confidential. I cannot decide if that is encouraging or not.
Oh, Care... things are crazier than ever before. I don't know if I told you much about it, but during my seventh year at Hogwarts I became interested in Rob Hudson, he's an auror now. We didn't really see each other much after graduation because of my being in healing training and him being in auror training. He also left the country for some time, but has just returned.
Long story short, about a year and a half ago, while I was still in training, he and another auror were brought into the ward looking... looking terrible. It was the first time I had seen him in years and... I don't know Caroline, I just got so emotional seeing him like that. Anyway, I'm still feeling conflicted about the relationship between us. I want to reconnect but I don't know how!
Personal life wise, that's probably what is overtaking my mind the most. How are thing for you?
Love, Connie

Dear Connie,
Oh, trust me, a lot of Gryffindors never truly grow up... you were lucky you did, my dear. Only joking, of course. Well... a little. Ah, yes. School seems like years ago for me... but it also seems like yesterday. I can't believe I was a seventh year when you were just entering school! It feels like there is no such age gap now!
As odd of an analogy that is, my dear, it is good to hear. No other type of person should be running a hospital like St. Mungo's. I've yet to truly meet Althea, but I look forward to the day that I do.
I'm actually sighing as I read your letter... how very typical of the Ministry to keep things on the... "DL," if you know what I mean. You would think we would know first about these sort of things! But of course not.
Rob Hudson... the name does ring a bell. I believe I've seen he and another fellow at the Hog's Head before. I specifically remember a belligerently drunk fellow shouting that name over and over... and the two looked like friends. Auror, though, huh? Got a sister?
Oh my... that will do it, though. Seeing one you once were involved with in such a vulnerable state. What about that other fellow you told me about a while back that you were once involved with... Pete? Porter? Or something? As for this Rob fellow... I would highly suggest going out with him. What better a way to get to know a man better than over a few drinks? Plus they are sure to agree to go along.
Life is much the same. Work, of course. I'm still out drinking all of those men in the Hog's Head on Friday nights, though! That is always worth bragging about to me!
With love, Caroline @constancekase

Caroline,
I agree! It seems a lot bigger of a gap when you're in school. And you don't have to say you're kidding, I've run into plently of ex-gryffs out in the world and they are often less than flattering. Such a bunch of silly fools. as usual. But at least people are happy, right?
Althea is a lovely person. Though, I think you two would butt heads at first. But eventually you'd be able to have a good relationship, I think. I do enjoy our weekly lunches together, though sometimes I can be a little too intimidated by her, but she is a good friend for now.
Just as you sigh reading my letter, I laugh out loud reading yours! He does indeed have a sister, she works with me here at Saint Mungos! I think you may have met her once or twice, Rachel Hudson?
Aw, yes. That sounds like him and John, two of my fellow Quidditch teammates from the old days. Where they harassing a handsome looking Slytherin Alumni? AKA, the schools current potions master? Oh! That fellow was Petar, the one Rob and John love to torment. Ah yes, our relationship form the past can make some awkward situations with Rob... but no matter. Petar is a good man, and was a good guy in school too.
I know, you're right... I should just make it a point to see him and catch up. You've always been good at instilling confidence in someone, Caroline. I thank you.
I laugh out loud once again, of course you are out drinking those men! They are just silly to try and challenge you. So, no one special in your life? At least not this week? I'm joking, I'm joking. I know you enjoy being independent and I love that about you!
Love, Connie

Dear Connie,
Happines really is all that matters, dear.
Hmmm... interesting. Why is it you think we would butt heads? I may just have to pay a visit to Mungo's to meet her.
I knew his last name sounded familiar! I definitely remembering meeting Ms. Hudson, that is for sure. Oh goodness! The new Potions Master is the old boy you used to date? He is a good man. I met him once, but he doesn't really come to a lot of the school dinners. Just prefers to be alone, I think. I find it funny that you know exactly who it was based on my description. They must be quite the characters, this Rob and his friend.
Do meet up with him, dear. I would love to meet him formally, especially if you two become more than friendly with one another.
Ha! That's right! No one for this old badger! I mean, you know I like to have my fun and there is plenty of that, dear, trust me.
With love, Caroline @constancekase]

Caroline,
I couldn't agree more! Though sometimes I make myself so busy that I forget whether I am feeling happy or not.
Well, their reputation precedes them. They turn into such boys whenever they're with each other, whether it's all three or just two, they act like they did in school. In really gets irritating sometimes, but what can you do? Petar really is shy, it would make sense that he isn't around much. Just be sure to not judge him too harshly off that rough exterior, he can be a bit of a tough guy when he wants to be.
Well..... actually I have some news to tell you. We just talked the other day! I saw him at the ministry and we got to chatting... and then kissing. Leeeeet's just say that I took your advice and just told him how I felt. We're going to Paris for a date soon, apparently! He can be a little dramatic at times. Anyway, it was such a lovely time! I haven't seen him since because of work but I'm very happy!
Love, Connie

My lovely Connie,
The lads did seem quite foolish... but only in the best of ways. Or at least as good and silly as two men can be. As for Petar, I will be sure to kindly introduce myself at the first opportunity. How opposed do you think he would be to me seeking him out, eh?
Oh - the juicy stuff! I love a good scandal. On the job, eh, Connie? You dog! Paris? Merlin's beard, the boy obviously knows the key to a woman's heart! He best be a gentleman or I may send Billius along to keep watch. He can be a nasty little hornbill when he needs to be!

Caroline,
They are just a riot, I'm glad that they are getting together every once in a while, as for Petar, I think he would be a little confused as to why someone is seeking him out. It would probably be best to mention that I suggested that you introduce yourself. He and I are still on good terms, so it wouldn't be a problem.
You made me laugh so hard that I started to joke on my water! Dog. Rob is in fact a dog sometimes, due to an animagus ability. So, that's why your comment was so funny. I am sure he will be just as gentlemanly as ever, but I will alert you if I am in need of the hornbills services. Though, Rob would probably just turn into a husky if the flying creature attacked. What a site that would be! I'm almost tempted to do it just to see how Rob would react. Though, I don't want he or Billius getting injured.
Love, Connie
