▲ Another dreary October morning. There had been quite a few of them so far, and it had literally put a damper on doing anything outdoors. Even though she adored the fall and everything that came with it, the cold, foggy mornings prevented Cordelia from wanting to get out of bed most of the time. Today was an exception, and like with all exceptions, there was a reason that she had to drag herself out of the comfort of her dorm room this early in the day. Early might have been pushing it though, the sun hadn’t even come up yet. And here she was, camera in hand, waiting, and shivering, for some sign of the great ball of light to peak over the horizon. She hadn’t exactly checked to see when the sunrise was supposed to come up, but figured as long as it was still dark out when she walked outside, then there was no reason to worry about missing it. The goal was to get a few photos of the sunrise at different times of the year, a small project among many that she had been working on since last term. All she had left now was October, November, and December. Camera hanging lazily from around her neck, Cordelia walked up to one of the benches that was situated in the courtyard and took a seat. She should have known better than to do that this early in the morning. The stone bench was covered in moisture from rain sometime in the night and now her pants and the back of her jacket were soaked through. Frustrated that she hadn’t thought this through, she jumped back to her feet and started pacing around the courtyard. It was too cold to sit still while waiting anyways. At least this way she could stay a little warmer by walking, not that it would help that much. Rubbing her hands together to try and warm them up as well, Cordelia looked anxiously at the skyline. Still no sign of the sun. Why was doing fun stuff so much work? She knew the payoff would be worth it in the end, but if it was this bad in October, the remaining two months in the year were definitely going to be a pain. Sighing, she closed her eyes, hoping that the sun would magically appear before her when she opened them up in a few seconds. If not, well, then it was back to freezing to death until it felt like gracing her presence. @ripley ● 422 ● Let The Flames Begin - Paramore MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

rain. ripley much preferred to be outside in the cold than she did out in the hot summer sun. though she'd prefer the hot summer sun to a day spent inside. she had decided to get up early, brave an early morning walk in the grounds before school started for the day. tucking her cloak around her as she glanced out the window to see the sky starting to lighten with the anticipation of the morning glow of the sun. there was still no sign of the sun coming up without the clouds covering it but at least it was light enough to see. the high windows made it impossible to see out but the light was easy enough to see. she grabbed a blanket from her trunk, thinking that if the rain cleared up she would sit at the black lake for a little while when she reached it.
hurrying out of the castle she ducked her head against the wind and smiled slightly when the wind billowed the cloak she was wearing around her. she loved the feel of the cool wind on her skin. humming to herself she worked her way to the courtyard slowly, her eyes glancing up from the ground in time to see someone sitting on one of the stone benches. cordelia. ripley smiled at the sight of her fellow housemate and she crossed the courtyard to the bench the girl was sitting on. "morning cordelia!" she said happily as she sat down on the bench next to her. "oh have you been trying to get some photos?" she asked, glancing down to the contraption that she had around her neck.

▲ Still no sign of the sun. At least ten minutes had to have passed already since she ventured outside. Cordelia anxiously twisted around on the bench she was sitting on to see if there were any indications of clouds covering up the giant ball of light. From what she could tell, there weren’t too many of them, or at least not enough cloud coverage that she wouldn’t be able to tell if the sun was hidden behind them or not. Frowning slightly at the fact that she was still waiting out in the cold for a sun that hadn’t decided to show up yet, she started taking her camera apart to make sure everything was in functioning order. After scanning over all the parts, Cordelia removed some dust from the sensor before popping the lens back onto the body of the camera. There was a possibility that could have caused dust particles to appear on the photo. She wasn’t a perfectionist when it came to those things, but if it made the difference between having to come back out in the freezing cold again or not then everything had to be in pristine working condition. Cordelia practically jumped off the bench she was sitting on when she heard her name called out. If her camera hadn’t been strapped around her neck, it more than likely would have been in a million, tiny pieces scattered across the courtyard. She recognized the voice and quickly looked towards the source of it to spot Ripley. Despite being relieved that it wasn’t a person she didn’t know that she now had to talk to, getting caught off guard like that was nerve-wracking. As Ripley took a seat next to her on the bench, Cordelia managed to get out an extremely quiet “good morning” back. The Krum sisters, at least the two that she was friends with, had always been nice to her and seemed to understand the problems she faced all the time. Even though they were both wildly more outgoing than Cordelia ever hoped to be, things still meshed between them and she felt comfortable around them. “Y-yes. “Y-yes. I’ve been waiting for the sun to come up. I think I got here too early though…” she understood that. she had always been getting up before the sun when she had been growing up. it was one of her favourite things to watch, the sun coming up and when she was able to dance in that first light of the day too it was always a good way to start. "well at least it's not too long to wait" she said with a smile as she looked over at the horizon. there was no sign of the sun just yet but it wouldn't be too long now before the sun was gracing them with it's warmth. "are you going to take photos of something in particular?"

▲ It was still freezing cold out, even though the sky was starting to get lighter. Any minute now that would change, and a brilliant blast of light would shower them. Ripley was right, hopefully, it wouldn’t be that much longer now. Cordelia had done this enough times over the past year to know when it would come up, even if it did change throughout the seasons. That actually made it more of a game than anything. Similar to the weather issues, there were quite a few times where she would either get up hours early, or not get up on time at all. Sleep was important, but not when it came to art. “Hopefully…”She pulled her jacket closer around her neck, blowing on her hands once again to warm them up. She liked the cold, but this was insane for this time of year. It was barely fall. And being nice and cozy in bed was better than this. She looked back at Ripley when the question about her photos came up. “The sunrise. I’ve been trying to get a p-picture for each month.” It had been going pretty well so far too. Initially the plan had been every month from the same spot, but since that was physically impossible due to her being home for the summer, as well as issues with weather and whatnot, it had simply become the sunrise in different locations. Today had been set up to be the courtyard, unless it turned out to be a flop. That had happened a few times already, so if it didn’t work today, she’d be back outside on the grounds again tomorrow morning. “What are you doing up so early?” She asked Ripley. She hadn’t actually bumped into anyone else the time she had been at Hogwarts. That had mostly been chalked up to the fact that no student in their right mind would want to be up before the sun, and out on the grounds. Plus the aurors didn’t really like them leaving the castle when it was still dark out. They seemed to be a little more lenient in the morning though, so it had yet to be an issue for her. Hopefully it stayed that way for the last two months as well. @ripley ● 379 ● Crimson Day by Avenged Sevenfold MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

“The sunrise. I’ve been trying to get a p-picture for each month.” that was a good idea! the sunrises were often so pretty, especially when their was clouds in the sky. well not a blanket of clouds but when there was enough for the sun to peek through. "that's a cool idea. when we have some time, can i see the ones you've already taken?" she asked as she ran a hand through her hair to brush it back off her face. “What are you doing up so early?” she smiled and shrugged her shoulders a little. it was odd to tell people that she liked to dance in the light that came from the sunrise. ever since she'd been a kid when the sun was entering or leaving the sky she would go dance in it's rays. it might seem odd to people but she loved it. "i'm hoping to dance in the sunrise." she said with a sheepish sort of smile and she looked at the horizon.

▲ Cordelia let a small smile form on her face as Ripley commented that taking pictures of the sunrise was a cool idea. She had never really thought of whether things were cool or not; all she wanted to do was take pictures. If they turned out interesting after they developed, then that was much better than she would have ever hoped. Since only her film and other non-electronic cameras worked on Hogwarts grounds, not knowing how something was going to turn out was the biggest waiting game. At least back home with her modern muggle cameras she could see things right away. “They’re nothing special…b-but okay.” It was hard to be humble about work she knew was actually pretty good. So far, all of the pictures had turned out well. She didn’t want to jinx that now though, especially when she was this close to finishing. A mistake now meant an entire year of waiting to try again. She didn’t mean to, but a giggle escaped from her as Ripley stated she was up early so she could dance in the sunrise. The other Hufflepuff had always seemed a little eccentric to her, not that she was one to talk, or stutter for that matter. Add dancing or any kind of physical fitness to that, and Cordelia was a stumbling, bumbling fool, always unaware of her surroundings and falling over things. Whenever asked about it, she made the excuse that she was so used to looking through the lens of a camera that she had no idea how to actually pay attention to the other things around her. In actuality she was just clumsy. “C-can I take a p-picture of you when you d-do that? If it’s o-okay with you…” Cordelia was fine with either a picture of Ripley, the sunrise, or both. Now that she thought about it, adding Ripley into it would add a little variation to it… @ripley ● 320 ● Me, Myself and Hyde by Ice Nine Kills MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

“C-can I take a p-picture of you when you d-do that? If it’s o-okay with you…” a picture of her? as she danced in the sunrise? well that would be an interesting picture! no one had ever been up early enough to take her picture while she had been dancing in the sunrise. "of course!" she said with a big smile on her face. "where is your favorite spot to take a sunrise picture?" she asked as she made to stand up and she brushed off her skirt encase there was anything stuck to it from sitting on the bench after the rain. she would love to learn how to take pictures like she always saw, they were so wonderful and she didn't really have the knack for it. she did remember once when he father brought her a disposable camera, something of a muggle novelty he had said and she had run around taking pictures. though most of them turned out to be too blurry to make out what they were. "can i take one of you too? so you can can be in one of your sunrise shots?"

▲ Cordelia’s face lit up as Ripley said a picture of her with the sunrise would be fine. If all else failed and it didn’t feel like it fit with the theme she was going for, she could always come back another day and try again. That had already been on her agenda anyways, since it was useless to try and get everything done in one go. Ripley stood up from her spot on the bench next to Cordelia and asked where the best for a picture would be. Studying the skyline and approximating where she thought the sun would potentially be in a few minutes, Cordelia motioned with her hands for the other Hufflepuff to an area of the courtyard that seemed like it would get hit by the sun the most. She knew Ripley was going to be dancing, so it really didn’t matter where she was, as long as it was close enough to where the sun’s rays were hitting. “S-Somewhere right there should b-be good.” It probably wouldn’t be too much longer now, she could already see the sky start to lighten up on the horizon. The first few rays of light were going to create nasty lens flares for sure; she had experienced this already throughout the past few months. Popping the lens cap off of her camera, Cordelia started making the necessary adjustments, which would hopefully make things work out a little better when the sun actually decided to show up to the party. She looked up as Ripley asked if she could take a photo of her in the sunrise too. Cordelia stared down at her camera to think about that one for a few seconds. There were photographers that liked to both take pictures and be in them, she wasn’t one of those ones. She also wasn’t a fan of having human subjects in her work, but the way she planned for this shot to look, it wouldn’t matter too much. A silhouette of Ripley dancing was the goal, and it would more than likely work too. “S-Sure…” she answered hesitantly, following it up with a reassuring head nod, since she had a feeling that it had been a little ambiguous on what it was she actually wanted. There weren’t too many pictures with her in them, so it would be nice to add another few, should they come out well. @ripley ● 398 ● Blue Sugar Breeze by M95 MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

“S-Somewhere right there should b-be good.” rip nodded and looked to the area cordelia had told her would be the best one to dance in. she could make that work. well there really wasn't any place that she couldn't make work when it came to her dancing. the feeling of dancing in the sunrise was one that would never get old to her. she had been doing it since she had first figured out how to open the back door without standing on something to reach the door handles. "looks perfect." cordelia started making adjustments to her camera so ripley started getting ready to dance. she stripped the cloak she had around her shoulders and she lay it over the bench before them and stretched her arms out. taking a deep breath she started to walk back toward the spot cordelia had wanted the picture. “S-Sure…” she laughed and nodded her head. "maybe we can even get you dancing in one too" she said as the sun finally started to peek over the top of the horizon. "show time." she said with a smile as she started dancing. mostly on the spot so it was easier for cordelia to take the photo.

▲ Cordelia watched as Ripley prepared for everything. There seemed to be a lot more prep work to dancing in the sunrise than she had anticipated. Stretches, breathing exercises. Even though she felt comfortable with what she had already set-up, Cordelia was making adjustment after adjustment on her camera, waiting to see what the sunrise was going to present her with. It was difficult to gauge how much flare the light was going to give her, the best time would most likely be a few minutes after the sun peaked over the horizon. Give it enough time, and it would give her what she wanted. As Ripley got set-up in the decided spot, Cordelia moved around, still trying to figure out where the best spot was for her to be. Since there was going to be lots of motion in this one, she needed the shutter speed set correctly as well, something she had almost forgotten to do. It wasn’t often that she had moving subjects. The sun started to lift over the horizon, and the first rays were absolutely blinding. Still, she managed to snap a few pictures. They would be blown out on the sides around the silhouette that Ripley made, but maybe if she was lucky one of them would turn out correctly. Opting to wait a few more minutes for the sun to rise higher, she continued fiddling with her settings and taking test photos, all the while watching Ripley dance around. It definitely looked fun, but she was far too clumsy to dance like that. She had steady hands, not steady feet. Finally, the sun was at the spot she had been waiting for. As Ripley had said when she started dancing, it was now time for Cordelia’s show to start. Immediately making a few minor changes, the pictures were flowing like crazy. A second roll of film was out in no time, seeing as the first had been taken up test shots. Another couple of minutes later, and Cordelia was content with what she had shot. “I th-think I g-got it.”@ripley ● 346 ● The Calamity by Trivium MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

“I th-think I g-got it.”ripley smiled and stopped dancing when cordelia called to her to tell her she'd gotten the shot. well she hadn't called but she'd let rip know. as she made her way back over to her fellow blonde hufflepuff she held her hands out and let her smile spread. "now time for me to get one of you" she said as she motioned to where she had been standing. "how about in the sunset?" she asked as she looked at her house mate.

▲ That had been a rather easy shot to get, if she had to be honest about it. The reason for using up two rolls of film was easy: she had no idea how the sun was going to effect the camera. Pushing and pulling film while processing was not fun, and it took a lot of time that she didn’t have. Instead, Cordelia opted to shoot Ripley at various settings, hoping that a few would turn out the way she had anticipated. If not, there was always tomorrow, quite literally. But now it was Ripley’s turn to take a few pictures. Cordelia popped out the finished second roll of film and slid a third, empty one in. Ripley probably wasn’t going to use all of it up, so she’d have to find something fun to do with it later on. The last things Cordelia needed was projects stuck on various rolls of film, having to develop all of them just to find the one or two images she needed. Ripley idled back over to her, and Cordelia slid the camera strap over the top of her head, making sure to hold onto it until she knew Ripley had a firm grip on the camera. Even though it was an easy fix, seeing as magic did wonders on muggle technology, the fact remained that she did not want to drop her camera on the ground. It happened enough in her own clumsiness, and that was with the protectiveness as if it were her own child. In a way, it kind of was. The other Hufflepuff suggested the photo be in the sun as well, so once Ripley had ahold of the camera, Cordelia made her way over to the same spot she had just been snapping pictures of. “Wh-Whenever y-you’re ready.” She said, putting on a smile. [OOC: one more each? or you can end it with Ripley handing the camera back over. whatever is easier]

she took a firm grip of the camera when cordelia handed it to her. as soon as it was in her hands she took the strap and put it around her neck for the added security. while she was sure it would be easy to fix with magic she'd feel awful if she dropped someone elses camera. she turned as cord started to make her way back to where ripley had been dancing and she smiled. "looks perfect!" she said as she brought the camera up to her eyes and took a picture. she decided in that moment that one wasn't enough. cordelia looked so pretty with the sunlight shining behind her that ripley made her way closer to find another spot to get another shot from. "stay there, almost done i promise!" she said with a big smile as she took a few more shots. she hoped they came out okay and that cordelia didn't mind them. "okay i think i got it." she said, sounding a lot like cord had before when she had told rip she had the shot. walking back toward her she lifted the camera strap from her neck and moved to hold it out to her. "you'll have to show me them when you have them made up."

▲ For loving photography as much as she did, Cordelia wasn’t the most comfortable in front of the camera. Being behind it, controlling the pictures, framing the shots; that was what she lived for. As she had deepened her interest in the art, there had been times where she learned about other photographers that were like her, and also ones that enjoyed being in front of the camera as much as they did being on the other side of the lens. She kind of understood that, but being familiar and comfortable with telling her subjects how to move and what to do was far more a challenge that she was concerned about overcoming than being the subject herself. Obviously the easiest way to avoid all of that was by sticking to landscape and scenery photographs. Removing the human factor out of it left the world literally open to interpretation. Trying to compare human subjects with inanimate objects wasn’t fair, because they were all interesting at the end of the day. Ripley seemed to be having a fun time taking pictures though, moving around in almost the same manner Cordelia had just done. She wouldn’t have been surprised if Rip said she had experience with cameras, it definitely seemed like it. Nowadays, most cameras were digital, at least the muggle kinds, and that limited the amount of use that film cameras like this one got used. Even more so than that, they were harder to find. She had been worried that this one wouldn’t work properly because of the small amount of battery that it used, but thankfully everything was in working order. Cordelia stayed still as the other Hufflepuff finished up with the last few pictures. And then it was done. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as she had imagined it always was. Probably because Ripley wasn’t as imposing as some photographers were. The camera was handed back over, and Cordelia made sure she had a good grip on it before motioning to Ripley that she could let go. “O-Of course.” She responded brightly about showing the photographs when they were developed. “I have enough t-to get them done s-soon.” Looking down at the camera, Cordelia popped the lens cap back onto it, before returning to meet Ripley’s gaze. “I have to go n-now…thanks for m-modeling.” Giving the Hufflepuff another smile, Cordelia waved goodbye, heading back into the castle.
