Brandon nodded when she asked if he wanted to do performance. "Yes. I mean, I like writing my own songs too, but what I really want to do is perform." He shrugged a little, trying to downplay how much he wanted to do this. Apparently Zander was doing pretty well and he hoped he'd be able to follow in his friend's footsteps, but he wasn't really sure if he'd be able to. "You did?" Brandon asked, curious excitement in his voice. He'd never known that before. "What did you perform?" He asked, hoping he wasn't crossing any lines by doing so. "Can you show me?" He added, figuring that if she couldn't, she wouldn't have mentioned it. This should be interesting.

Zytka smiled when Brandon said he wanted to be a performer. That seemed to her a very Hufflepuff thing to do, using music to help make others happy. She nodded when Brandon asked if she had actually done what she claimed to do. “I did wandless magic, mostly. In Uganda, it was not typical to use wands when performing spells, not like it is here. I’m much better at wandless magic than your average Briton. I would wager I am best in the school, but I fear your headmaster wouldn’t like me making such a claim.” Zytka had been above average even in Uganda, so when she took her skills to Britain, she seemed even more magnificent. “Certainly.” Zytka said when Brandon asked if she could show him some of her performance. She had already done the smoke flowers recently, so Zytka decided to take it a different approach. With a twist of her wrist, a jet of water appeared from Zytka’s palm, leaping into the air and twisting itself into a spiral before arcing down to touch Zytka’s other hand, where it evaporated again. It was a small show, but Zytka hoped it was good enough.

Brandon was interested when his previous professor told him that she did wandless magic. Wandless magic? He'd heard about it, but he didn't know very much and definitely hadn't seen someone who did a lot with it. Apparently she did and he thought that was cool. He laughed when she explained how good she was and then downplayed it at the same time. "Don't worry, I won't tell him you said that," he said with a shrug. Really, what he wanted was to see her do it. So he waited semi-patiently for her to start. His smile widened when he watched water appear and then twist and turn in the air before it disappeared on her other hand. "That was awesome!" He told her openly, though he was sure she already knew. "Do you get to use that often here? Wandless magic? I never noticed it before ..." Brandon trailed off as he tried to remember whether or not he'd seen her do some small magic without a wand. He couldn't recall.

Zytka smiled when Brandon said he wouldn’t tell the headmaster about her claim to be the best wielder of wandless magic at Hogwarts. “It will be our little secret.” She said with a little laugh. She doubted that Brandon would tell the headmaster even if she hadn’t asked him to keep it quiet, and it wasn’t like disciplinary action could be taken against her for stating an unharmful truth to a student who wasn’t even hers to teach any longer. Brandon seemed awed enough by her performance, and Zytka’s smile broadened. “No, I don’t.” Zytka answered when he asked if she got to use her wandless magic often. “Sadly, it’s more for show than anything else.” And they were trying to teach the students practical skills at Hogwarts, now more than ever. “I would have started a club for it, but I don’t believe many students are interested in the subject, so it wouldn’t get far off the ground.” Which was a shame, really, because wandless magic got much easier with practice, and few people dedicated the time to it anymore.

She laughed, saying that it would be their secret and Brandon laughed too. It was nice to be able to relax enough to laugh with someone. Not that things had been too stressful since coming back, but everything with Callie had been annoying and now that things were finally good between them he just wanted to enjoy his last year. "Did you use it a lot at home?" he asked curiously. He didn't know whether or not most magical communities used wands or not, so he decided to let his curiosity take over a little bit. He shrugged when she said it was just for show. "It does make a good show though," he said with a smile. He wouldn't mind seeing more, but he didn't want to be impolite or bother her or something. "After a few demonstrations of things you can do, people might be more interested in joining. Also, wandless magic seems like a handy thing to know." Brandon didn't know how, but he probably would have been interested in something like that if he'd been able to find the time for it while in Hogwarts.

Zytka nodded when Brandon asked if she used wandless magic a lot in her home country. “Uagadou uses wandless magic almost exclusively. From first year, we are taught without a wand.” She explained. “Mostly people just have wands for extremely complicated magic, or as showpieces. You know, a way to display how rich they are.” So some of the people that did have wands didn’t even have functional wands, choosing instead to carve intricate designs into them or use materials that didn’t lend themselves well to magic at all. “I would push wandless magic more here, except for the fact that my class doesn’t use much practical magic at all.” Ancient Runes was almost exclusively translation, which didn’t need a wand at all, just a keen mind. “Perhaps you can start recruiting for me.” Zytka teased Brandon. Technically, she thought, a club needed a student willing to be a captain before any teacher could volunteer to be its sponsor. Then again, for the Black Student Union, the two events had happened concurrently, so maybe Zytka was mistaken.

Brandon was a lot more interested in what she had to say than he thought he would be. They used mostly wandless magic in Uganda?! That was so cool! "So did they teach you in school how to use a wand, or not since everyone didn't have one?" He asked curiously. Brandon had never really considered something like that before. He nodded when she explained why she didn't try to push wandless magic more. "I think it would be a good skill to learn. Especially since sometimes people lose their wands or something happens to them. Then we don't know what to do until we can buy a new one." He hoped she wouldn't be offended at his implication that that would be the only instance they would use that skill; he just mentioned it as an important example. He shrugged when she mentioned that he could recruit. "You never know; I might just start doing that," Brandon quipped, but really he was serious. He thought it would be a good skill to have and if she could teach it, he would definitely be interested.

Zytka shook her head, slightly amused, and Brandon’s question. “In case you haven’t noticed, my dear, wands are not exactly difficult to use.” Once a wand chose a wizard, it was really just a matter of learning the correct motions, and many of the motions for wandless magic were similar, if not exactly the same, as the same incantation used with a wand. “We learned the basics, but that was mostly if we were ever in a situation that demanded a wand.” Zytka could think of no such situation that she would run into in her daily life, but that was beside the point. “If you’d like to learn, Brandon, I’d be more than happy to teach you, if you have the time to spare.” Club or no club, if an individual student showed interest in something Zytka was unique equipped to teach, she was going to try to teach them. “From what I’ve heard, under emergency situations, people can become quite good at wandless magic in short bursts. Like adrenaline, I believe.” But that was hardly something you wanted to rely on, especially if it came to a battle or something similar.

He hadn't really ever thought about it before, but was using a wand difficult? He didn't know, mostly because he'd never learned anything differently. Almost all the magic he'd learned required using a wand, but he was definitely interested in learning. He listened to her explanation with interest, nodding to show that he was listening. It was interesting, the idea of only knowing how to use a wand if you had to use it. His eyes widened when she offered to teach him. "Really? I think I would like to learn that, if it's not too big of a hassle for you." Brandon added the last part to be polite. "I have plenty of time." Sure, he was still studying, but doing classes for Durmstrang didn't take much of his time at all, so he had plenty of time to learn more if she did.

Brandon seemed to be paying attention to what she was saying, which raised Zytka’s hopes for what he would say in response to her offer. When he said that he’d like to learn, if it wasn’t too much of a hassle, the professor smiled. “It’s never too much of a hassle to help a willing student learn something useful.” Zytka answered. If there was someone who was unwilling, then it certainly did become a hassle, because forcing someone to learn was impossible. You could lead a horse to water all you wanted, but drinking was their responsibility. “Could you send me an owl with your schedule, then?” Zytka asked. “I can choose one day a week for you to come in for a lesson, if that would be amicable for you?” Having time sectioned off every week seemed to be the easiest way to make sure that they actually got around to doing the lessons, instead of just talking about them.

Brandon smiled when professor Kamuntu said it wouldn't be a hassle. At least, that's how he took it, since he did want to learn something useful. "Great! I will send you an owl soon then. I'd like to start learning as soon as I can," he said, hoping that she wouldn't mind that he wanted to start so fast. As long as he wasn't pushing her to teach him when she was busy, it should be fine, right? "One day a week sounds great," he told her with a smile and a nod. He was excited to get started and learn about this.

Zytka nodded when Brandon said that he would send her an owl soon. “Why don’t you run and do that now?” She suggested. That way neither of them would be likely to forget. “Because I’m sure you have better things to do than stand around and listen to me.” She said, smiling wryly. Brandon would probably be too polite to agree with her, but it was a good way to get them to be able to go their separate ways without any fuss. “I’ll see you soon, Brandon. Have a wonderful day.”
