“Thanks,” Evelyn whispered when Dustin told her she was a good friend. The thing was, she wasn’t quite sure if he was saying that just to make her feel better or if he was serious. That was the problem. Ev didn’t know how people worked. She had a hard time understanding their motives and actions because people weren’t logical most of the time. Which was why she appreciated Dustin’s friendship so much. He didn’t hate her when she went all logical on her. Honestly, he was the first real friend she’d ever had. “You’re my best friend, you know,” she stated factually. She was sure he knew that, but she also felt the urge to tell him so she did.
Evelyn grinned when Dustin rolled his eyes at her, “They only feel that way about me because I’m your friend,” she teased. Dustin’s family was wonderful. She loved them for being so understanding and kind to her, even when she didn’t make any sense or got on one of her logical tangents. She never felt like they were judging her, which was a nice feeling. She grinned at Dustin, “You know I never turn down the chance to go see your family.” Ev smiled, “Let’s go see if anyone’s home before you get tired of holding that lantern and end up dropping it.” Evelyn knew he wouldn’t drop it, but it was fun to tease Dustin all the same.
