Dastan couldn’t imagine how this day could have gotten worse. He came to Hogwarts convinced that he was the best candidate to be champion and tonight he discovered that all his plans were in vain. Someone else was more worthy, according to that cursed cup. And not just anyone, Emile. The most arrogant, conceited person in their whole school was to represent them. Dastan could hardly contain his shame and disgust that this was who he now had to support.
He’d stayed away from the carriage as long as he could, until it was almost curfew. He didn’t want to take part in the celebration for Emile. He should have the honor of the celebration. Actually, if anyone else would have gotten it, Dastan would have felt better about the situation. But not Emile. He sat just inside the carriage door, staying as far away from Emile’s celebration as he possibly could.

Running from the third floor to the Beauxbatons carriage hadn't been fun at all, but Oscar had had to do it in order to make it in before curfew. He had slipped in just seconds before the headmistress had some to lock the door to the carriage, and Oscar was so relieved by the fact that he hadn't been late that he didn't register that there was a party going on until he had been inside for a full minute. Right. He had known that this was going to happen, but that didn't mean that he had to like it. Apparently, he wasn't the only one, either. One of the boys from his school - Oscar couldn't bother to remember his name - was sitting far removed from the rest of the hullabaloo. That was more Oscar's style, too, so he approached the other boy, sitting down next to him with little grace or politeness. "You are disappointed." Oscar stated bluntly. That was a good way to get a conversation going.

Dastan glanced up when he heard the carriage door open. Wasn't everyone already inside the carriage? He thought that all his fellow students came back with the group after the announcement, but apparently not. He recognized the boy; his name was Oscar if Dastan could remember right. He looked just as upset as Dastan felt. And windswept, but Dastan could only imagine that was because he had to run to make it back before curfew. No need to comment on the obvious. Dastan was, however, surprised when Oscar came over and sat next to him. "So are you," Dastan commented back when Oscar said he was disappointed. "Neither of us came here to watch someone else become champion. Least of all Emile." There was enough disgust in his voice that his feelings about Emile should be plainly obvious. He hated the jerk. They had been something like rivals ever since school began and now that Emile was champion and Dastan was not ... well, his feelings for the other Beauxbatons student were worsening.

Oscar didn’t bother to deny that he was disappointed with his situation. He nodded along when Dastan said that none of them had come to see someone else become the Champion. That wasn’t what he had come for, but…it wouldn’t be so bad, would it? At the least, Oscar had a strong connection to one of the Champions, even if it wasn’t the one from his school. “Emile is the worst of all evils.” Oscar offered, even though he didn’t totally believe that. The best part about Emile was that he made the other Champions look better in comparison. He made Anna look better in comparison. “But your sister – she is adviser?” The Beauxbatons adviser didn’t share Dastan’s surname, as far as Oscar knew, but she definitely looked like Dastan and his twin, at least to Ozzy. Even if he was wrong, that was a new tidbit of information gained.

Apparently Oscar wasn't a very talkative one. Not that Dastan really needed someone who was big into conversing, but he was in a mood to complain. Since he couldn't sleep, that was. He shook his head bitterly. "Anyone else and I could tell myself I do not care, but Emile will make it worse. Bragging." That was really all that needed to be said. Everyone in their group- and probably a good number of people outside of it- knew that he was arrogant.
Dastan nodded when his sister was brought up. "Yes, that is the one bit of good news from tonight," he said with a small smile. Seeing his sister throughout the year was an unexpected thing, but definitely a good one. "How did you know?" he asked, looking over at Oscar curiously.

Oscar nodded when Dastan said that Emile was going to make everything worse. He was known for being a braggart, and since he had won the most esteemed title that anyone could hold at the moment, Oscar could only imagine how much worse his ego was going to get.
“You look like her.” Oscar replied with a shrug. “The face. And hair, I guess.” Oscar shrugged again. He actually didn’t know how exactly he had figured it out, but it made sense. And now Dastan had confirmed it, so Oscar didn’t have to concern himself with how he had figured it out beforehand. “You are looking forward to her being here?” Oscar asked, determined to keep the conversation continuing on a trajectory that wasn’t entirely bashing Emile. They could certainly do that, too, but Oscar didn’t want to be the one that Dastan came to every time he wanted to complain. He had other, better things to do.

Oscar didn't say anything about Emile and Dastan shook his head as his thoughts continued to focus on him. Sure, Oscar might help distract him, but there was still that raging party so close by. He wasn't going to be able to forget about Emile. "When do you think it'll be quiet enough that we can go to sleep?" he asked, trying to hide the bitterness in his voice but unsure if he actually did or not.
Dastan nodded. No one else had guessed that they were related, but it wasn't that big of a deal. It just meant that Oscar was more observant than he gave him credit for. "Yes," Dastan nodded, a small smile breaking out on his face. "That is one reason I will definitely stay at Hogwarts this year, even though Emile ..." he trailed off and then decided to talk about Annabeth instead of Emile. "I have not spent time with her in a long time. It will be nice to have her so close." Dastan realized he was really the only one speaking now and decided he might as well try and change that. "So what do you think of Hogwarts?" He asked, aware his question was random. "Have you ... made any friends?" Dastan felt weird asking that question. He and Oscar weren't friends; they'd never really spoken with one another before today, but Dastan was curious. He'd run into a few students, but not any that he could call friends. "I've met a few, but they seem pretty closed off to me. Not ready for friendship," he explained with a shrug.

Oscar made a face when Dastan asked about when it would be quiet enough that they could sleep. He honestly had no idea. “Maybe two, three, in the morning?” Oscar guessed. He couldn’t see the party going much later than that, since they had classes the next day, but if it ended any earlier, Oscar could see his classmates complaining that they hadn’t celebrated enough. Anything for free booze, it seemed.
The Beauxbatons boy nodded when his classmate continued to talk about his sister, and how he was going to stay at Hogwarts despite the fact he hadn’t been chosen as Champion. “Perhaps I can meet her.” And sabotage Emile, Oscar added in his head. He wouldn’t mind having a friend in his own school, but considering all he knew about Dastan was his family, that seemed the best way to begin the connection.
“Hogwarts is a fine place.” Ozzy responded when Dastan inquired about his opinion of the school. He especially preferred the third floor, not that he was going to say that to his classmate. “I have a friend, yes.” Oscar admitted. He ran his hand through his hair, debating whether or not he ought to tell Dastan about said friend’s identity. “Anna Weasley. She is the Hogwarts Champion.” Oscar swallowed after his confession, hoping that Dastan wouldn’t ask to meet Anna or anything of the sort. He didn’t want to use her as some sort of show pony. “I was with her before curfew.” Oscar added, in case Dastan had seen him breeze in at the last possible moment. “But now I have reason not to support Emile.” His Hogwarts friend was just as capable, if not more, than the Beauxbatons Champion, and with a much better temperament, to boot.

Dastan growled when Oscar said things would die down in the early hours of the morning. He was probably right, but that didn't mean Dastan had to like it. "Probably," he grumbled, somewhat bitterly. Really, at the moment all Dastan wanted to do was sleep. At least if he was sleeping, he could dream the truth away, or just dream about something else entirely. Sitting here, listening to the party was more than he wanted to deal with.
Oscar wanted to meet Annabeth? Well, that probably wouldn't be a problem at all. From what Dastan understood, she would be here all year to help Emile with anything he needed. "I think that will happen easily," Dastan told Oscar, once again wondering why he would be interested in meeting his sister. Not many people cared about the Champions' mentors.
Dastan perked up when Oscar said he had a friend. "How did you make a friend so quickly?" he asked, before he even knew who it was. He'd been trying to form some sort of connection with anyone since he got here. Granted, at the same time he was studying and hoping to get chosen by the Goblet, so friends hadn't been his highest priority, but how had Oscar made a friend before him? Oscar always seemed to be grumpy and upset, at least from Dastan's point of view. Not that he would actually say that. When Oscar explained who it was, Dastan gave a low whistle and laughed, "Well you have good luck," he said, shaking his head in disbelief. What are the chances of having one Hogwarts friend who just happens to become their champion. "She has red hair, right? She is very pretty," Dastan commented as he thought back to the announcement tonight and tried to remember what she looked like. Red hair. Very distinctive and unique. When Oscar said he was with her before curfew, Dastan looked at him in surprise. How did he manage to find the champion of Hogwarts and get her to spend time with him before curfew? Wouldn't she rather be at a party or something? Apparently not. He smiled at Oscar's last comment. "Maybe I will cheer for her instead," he mused. "Do you think she will win?" Dastan knew that winning wasn't all that mattered, but it was important to him.

Oscar nodded when Dastan growled about how late (or early, really) it would be before the parties stopped. He could understand the frustration, especially since they had nothing really to celebrate. If anything, the carriage should have been quiet as a mouse as people locked themselves into their rooms and sobbed about all of the dreams they had lost out on. It didn’t matter, though.
“Good, good.” Oscar said when Dastan said a meeting with his sister could be easily arranged. Oscar couldn’t pretend that he didn’t have an ulterior motive – maybe meeting the Beauxbatons mentor would help him gain some insight into Emile’s strategy. He could use that to help Anna. He felt a little bad for making Dastan an unwitting accomplice to his scheme, but Oscar wasn’t sure that it really qualified as a scheme unless he got something out of it. Otherwise, it was just a polite meet-and-greet with one of his classmate’s siblings. That happened all the time, didn’t it?
Oscar hesitated to answer when Dastan asked how he had made a friend so quickly. “We just kept running into each other.” He said after a while. “I mean, we literally ran into each other.” And then they had sought each other ought, and then things had sort of just spiraled into friendship. It was strange, but it had worked out pretty well for them, Oscar thought. “Yes, she is the red head.” He answered. Oscar was surprised to find that he bristled a little when Dastan said that Anna was pretty. No one else was supposed to notice that except for him. Still, their conversation was going so well, and Oscar didn’t want to ruin it by snapping at the boy. Being around Anna so much had taught him a thing or two about thinking before he spoke. “You should!” Oscar said enthusiastically when Dastan said he might cheer for Anna. She could never have too many supporters, and maybe when Emile realized that not everyone thought he was the center of the universe, he would become a little humbler. It was a long shot, but Oscar had beat impossible odds before. “I know she will.” Oscar said when Dastan asked about Anna’s chances of winning. There was no way someone as brilliant as her could lose.

Dastan merely nodded when Oscar seemed pleased at the chance to meet his sister. It probably wasn't anything. In fact, Dastan wouldn't be surprised if he'd only brought it up as a form of conversation. Granted, he would still see what he could do to introduce the two, but he really didn't expect anything to come out of it.
Dastan laughed. They ran into each other? And that is what started their friendship? "More than once?" he asked curiously. It just sounded so strange and random, but also like a very interesting story. "And she met with you after finding out she was champion?" He asked. Dastan really wasn't trying to insinuate anything, but it really seemed like something was going on between the two of them and now that he'd heard about a little of it, he wanted to know more. He chuckled, shaking his head ruefully, "You are definitely very lucky," he commented. He wished he'd already made a friend like that. Hopefully he'd be able to start talking to that one girl ... but he hadn't found the courage yet.
He smiled when Oscar told him he should root for her instead of Emile, "I think I will cheer for her. Anna, right?" He looked at the boy beside him with interest. "What makes you so sure?" Dastan couldn't help but ask. After all, Emile was sure of his victory also, so one of them had to be wrong.

Dastan seemed to be rather incredulous about Oscar’s friendship with Anna, and the Beauxbatons boy wondered if what he had was actually that strange, or if Dastan was just unlucky when it came to making new friends. “The literal one in was only once.” Oscar clarified. “But the other run ins, the chance meetings, I mean…yes, they happened more than once.” First when he had been looking for directions, and then again when they had collided around the corner, and several other times, too. “And…yes, she met with me after she was Champion.” Why did he sound so surprised by all of this? Anna had needed to get away from the party and the crowd, and Oscar was just a good way for her to do that. And they were friends, so it wasn’t strange that she had wanted to see him – that was what friends did! Dastan said that he was lucky, and Oscar scoffed. That was the first time in his life that word had been used in reference to him, and it didn’t seem right.
“Yes, Anna.” Oscar confirmed. There seemed to be a little confusion among the foreign students as to what to call her, since her name was technically announced as Molly, but Oscar couldn’t imagine her as anything more or less than just Anna. “She knows everything. And she works hard.” And she knew how to have fun, which was the most important thing, since this Tournament was just one big game.

Dastan nodded when Oscar started answering his questions. It made sense, strangely enough. Running into someone frequently meant you had to talk, and unless both of you were rude and arrogant, it would normally mean some kind of a friendship would ensue. The fact that this happened by chance for Oscar was something that intrigued Dastan to no end, but he figured his classmate would not want him asking too many questions about the girl. He seemed ... oddly protective of her. Or maybe that was just Dastan over-analyzing things again. "It is impressive you have such a good friendship in a short time," he commented once Oscar answered all his questions. He noticed Oscar scoff, but didn't know what it was for, so Dastan decided to ignore that.
Oscar reaffirmed her name and Dastan smiled and nodded again, not that Oscar was looking at him or anything. The smiling just came out of habit. "Well those seem like good reasons to cheer for her," Dastan agreed, hoping that Oscar was right. If he was, then maybe Emile would have a run for his money when it came to the tournament. One could only hope, however. He tried to think of something else to talk about, but Dastan's brain was fried. It was a hard day and ended rather disappointingly. He would let Oscar lead the conversation now, if he had a desire to that.

Dastan said that it was impressive that he and Anna had such a good friendship in such a short time, and he shrugged. It didn’t make sense for Oscar to explain how he tended to cling to the people who stayed with him longer than a few days – this was a conversation about the Triwizard Tournament, not about Oscar’s own insecurities. “I am sure you will find friends easier now.” Now that not everyone was thinking of the foreign students as their possible competitors, Oscar was hoping that they would be a little more open to creating new friendships. Of course, after the First Task, there would be another setback, but Oscar was hoping that he could expand his friendships beyond just Anna.
“They are, I think.” Oscar agreed with Dastan. He paused, trying to think of something else to say. “Your brother, is he also disappointed?” It was the only thing that he could think to talk about. After his nap, Oscar was really looking forward to going back to sleep.

Dastan nodded, "Yes, especially since I am not the champion. If I was, they would probably still see me as the enemy," he said as he rolled his eyes. Hogwarts students seemed quite defensive about their school and about wanting to win, so even though he wasn't the champion they might still not want to spend time with him. At least now he could try. He smiled wryly at Oscar, "So do you have any suggestions for making friends?"
He asked if Jesper was disappointed and Dastan shrugged, "I think he is, but I have not seen him tonight. He might be part of the celebration." Dastan thought for a moment, "Especially if there are cupcakes," he added as an afterthought. Jesper never could say no to cupcakes. "Did you see many disappointed Hogwarts students while you were in the school?" he asked. Of course, he spent most of his time with the Hogwarts Champion, but surely he saw others also?
