Four days.
That's how how long it had been since that night that Uriah let her get taken away. That night that the vampire dragged her off without her brother even batting an eye. She was taken back to it's lair, to it's home. She still didn't understand why it happened. Vampires didn't normally kidnap people for no reason. Rai wasn't stupid. This was someones idea. Even though she didn't know why it had happened, she knew exactly what. She knew what she was now. She felt cold, colder than she'd ever felt in her entire life.
She would have still been there too, if it wasn't for her bravery and her conviction to get back to where she was supposed to be. To get back to her family, and to her friends. The vampire that had taken her didn't show any intention of letting her leave anytime soon. After he forced her to you turn into one of them, he attempted to lock the doors, to keep her there, for whatever purpose she didn't want to know. But Rai wasn't one to just sit there and let bad things happen to her. She wasn't one to just sit back when she had been kidnapped in April, to watch as her friends were hurt. She remembered what happened to Marrcia and Cain. Marcia, her friend who was now in America seeking her evil parents. Her friend who was in love with a half-vampire Cain. The people who had kidnapped them had cut her open so that she was bleeding, bleeding so much that Rai could smell it from the next room. Marcia, her friend who had been tossed into the room with her starving half vampire boyfriend covered in blood. And now, Rai could smell that blood even better than ever. She could even remember the way Marcias had smelled. She didn't know how Cain resisted killing Marcia that night.
On the fourth day, when her vampire captor was about to leave the room, Rai grab the poker from the fireplace and drove it near the vampire's heart. He didn't stick around to see what happened next. She kicked him to the floor and ran out the door. She was still weak though, her clothes covered in blood. She ran out into the streets, stopped, took several deep breaths, and managed to apparate just outside of hogsmeade. She had a feeling she'd find Finn there. She didn't want her parents to see her like this.
Rai wasn't one to cry often. She didn't cry when she was kidnapped. She didn't cry when Ethan died. She didn't cry when any of them died. She didn't cry when she pushed so hard in training that she thought she wouldn't be able to get up the next morning. She didn't cry when her brother left her behind to die. She didn't cry when the image of Grey's face crossed her mind as she was forced to suck the blood. She didn't cry as she considered that she might never see him again, or Finn, or her parents, or her fellow aurors, or her trainer Poe, or anyone that she loved. She didn't cry as she considered maybe taking the offer of death instead of what she'd done.
She didn't cry as she stabbed that vampire, and went running. And even now, as she searched the village, looking a mess, she didn't cry. Not at first. Until, finally, she saw Finn. That was the moment, one of the few moments in her life, that fear and anger produced tears in her eyes. Sure, she had cried for sadness. Sure, she had cried for happiness. But crying for this, crying in fear, was something that she didn't think she would ever do. She didn't even make it to him, before the tears were flowing from her eyes, and she ran towards him, throwing her arms around him, not caring if the blood on his clothes.

Finn had not slept in forty-eight hours, though he felt as though a week had passed. Since Rai had never come home after her night off, Finn had searched everywhere for his best friend. Every inch of the Forbidden Forest, every nook and cranny of both Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, Horizon Alley. He’d even gone into Club Indigo to question Rai’s brother, Uriah; though a fat load that had done. Just thinking of Uriah’s expressionless face made Finn want to punch it until it turned bloody, but he had held his temper that night. He didn’t want to let him know the rage that had been bubbling inside of him with every word Uriah said. Everywhere he thought Rai might be, he had checked. He’d even gone to her parents house with the pretense of offering an apple pie from his mother Alicia - it had been bought at the store, but Finn had made it so that the box looked like regular wrappings. She was not there, either way. Finn was beside himself with worry; where was Rai?
He had a map of all of Great Britain set out on the large table in front of him; Poe, Grey and the other Aurors had helped him think of places to search; the purple pins on the map signaled known wizarding dwellings, the green symbolized the ones Finn had already checked. All the pins except Tinsworth were now green. Finn sighed; he had no idea why Rai would go there; the Delacour-Weasley family lived there of course, but she wasn’t necessarily close with any of them, and Dom and Louis were both at school now. Rubbing his eyes in frustration, he sighed and looked up. He blinked slowly, once then twice more. Rai was standing in front of him, covered in blood. This must be a nightmare, he thought to himself, before Rai flung herself forward into his arms. He didn’t even realize he had opened them up, but now they were encased around her tightly. He’d seen tears in her eyes, but they didn’t compare to what was freely flowing down his cheeks. “Rai,” he whispered, his shoulders shaking as he silently sobbed. He had so many questions for her; where she had been, what happened, why she was covered in blood, why was she so cold. But at this very second, none of that mattered. Just that she was back. “Here,” he said quickly, whipping his travel cloak off the chair and wrapping her in it. He pulled her close again, gently stroking her hair and hoping she’d warm up. He would wait until she was ready to talk, however long that took.

Once his arms were around her she didn't try to stop the tears anymore. She sobbed freely, not really noticing anyone else who was around. He whispered her name and she sobbed his back, tightening her grip around his neck. He was crying too, she could tell.
She gasped slightly as he pulled back to grab his travelling cloak to wrap it around her. She must have felt cold. But she knew it wouldn't warm her up. She knew it was a waste of time. But, she let him do it. She let him pull her close and stroke her hair. After a few moments she willed herself to stop shaking by clenching her fists behind him. "I need help," she said firmly. "I don't know if the bleeding has stopped," she admitted, slowly pulling back. She brought a hand to her neck and wiped at the blood there, revealing the bite marks there. She kept her eyes on his and bit her lip to stop it from quivering.

Finn felt Rai let go and he held her tighter. It was awhile before she finally spoke, saying she needed help. As she wiped the blood from her neck, a gasp left Finn’s lips before he could do anything about it. Two tiny puncture holes, two tiny bite marks. They could be only from one thing; a vampire. The comments Uriah had made made perfect sense now. Finn felt one hand tighten into a fist; he wanted to wrangle the older mans’ neck. He gently picked up a napkin and dabbed at the wound, clearing the blood so he could get a closer look. “We should get you to the Hospital Wing; Madam Blacksmith is a kind woman she will help,” he told her, then sighed. “What happened to you?” he asked her, an almost pleading note in his voice. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to hear all the details of what had happened to Rai during her disappearance, not without being near a punching bag or a wall to punch through. But if she needed to tell her tale, he’d be there to listen, without question.

Blood. It was the first thing Poe smelled when he transformed into his Animagus form and began his patrol of Hogsmeade. It wasn't just the kind of smell he occasionally caught when he walked past someone with a bandage on their finger or some equally small wound. Someone was covered in blood, and Poe had an itch behind his ear that felt a lot like familiarity. Poe began walking, still trying to figure out the calibration on his nose - it was something he had to relearn every time he transformed, it felt like. Once he had a few moments, Poe was sure that he was on the right track, though he still couldn't smell much through the blood. All he had was the aching sense of knowing the smell. Poe began to move faster, loping strides carrying him closer and closer to the scent. Even though he couldn't consciously recognize the scent, something in his subconscious must have, because in a few moments, Poe was straight out running towards the scent of the blood. Two figures came into view, and everything clicked in Poe's head. He shifted back into his human form mid-stride, stumbling a little as he did so. Rai. She had been missing for four days, and now she was back, and she was covered in blood, and..."You're a vampire." Poe said breathlessly. He didn't mean for that to be the first thing that he said to her, but she was so pale, and the marks on her neck that she was showing Finn...Poe had seen those before, on a corpse. And Rai wasn't a corpse, which meant...she was a vampire.

Rai let Finn clean off her wound and didn't bother to stop more tears from coming. There was no point, anyway. Finn mentioned the hospital wing and Rai shook her head aggressively. "Not there. Not the students," Not Grey, she thought. He asked her what happened and she covered her hand with her mouth, shaking her head as if she was going to throw up. She was afraid that if she started to explain it, she would.
Suddenly, that puppy they saw the other day was heading toward them and Rai let out a squeak as it turned into Poe. Her eyes widened and she tightened her grip on Finn. He said that word, vampire, and Rai let out a choking sob. She buried her face against Finns chest and nodded her head. She needed to get out of here. Out of this public place before anyone else came around to find out what was wrong with her.
She slowly moved her face from Finns chest to look up at him and then to Poe, "please, get me out of here," she begged them. Then, she felt that weakness overcome her and her knees buckled as she blacked out.

Finns eyes widened as the puppy from the village transformed into Poe. He supposed if he really went back and thought of it that he shouldn’t be surprised Poe was an Animagus, but right now that wasn’t important. What was important was the trembling, messed up girl that was in his arms. He caught her as she crumpled; with one swoop he picked her up in his arms. She was so light, so cold. A vampire? He couldn’t believe that this had happened. He could kill Uriah. His hands balled into fists before he could stop himself. No, Uriah wasn’t worth a quick or easy death. He would give this information to Poe, and Poe could go to Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Yes, that would be better. Can’t get his hands dirty, after all.
He walked with Rai up to the empty bedroom and he laid her gently on the bed. He turned around and looked at Poe. Finn was hard to read just then; but he was full of so many emotions, he couldn’t begin to explain how he felt. “We need to look into her half-brother, Uriah Stark. That’s who she went to see the night she first went missing,” Finn said flatly.

Don’t panic. Poe took a deep breath in through his nose, and released it through his mouth. He was the one in charge here, he was the one that was supposed to know what to do. He didn’t. Poe didn’t know what to do when Rai swooned, so it was a good thing that Finn caught her, that Finn carried her, that Finn was doing everything. Poe followed numbly when Finn walked to a bedroom, and nodded when Finn said that Rai’s half-brother was the last person to have supposedly seen her before she disappeared. Poe didn’t recognize the name, but he was certain that he could get something done, with a little bit of digging. “Stark, Uriah.” He repeated, inverting the names, as was common when talking about suspects for a crime. “He’s not a vampire, correct?” Poe asked. He didn’t think that Finn would neglect to mention such a detail, but Poe wasn’t sure how emotionally stable his students were at the moment. Poe wasn’t even emotionally stable, and Rai wasn’t his best friend the way she was Poe’s. “I – I can go now, if you want me to.” Poe said, hesitating before taking a step towards the door. He felt like an intruder here. It would be better if he left.

Finn nodded in confirmation as Poe repeated the name back to him. “That’s right, and no he’s not a vampire,” he said. He looked around, then lowered his voice. “He works at Club Indigo as a bartender, and you and I both know the sort of crowds that go there,” he said. He knew Poe would understand his meaning; he also knew that the elder Auror would have more power to investigate the club than a trainee had. This would be good for him; especially since he looked uncomfortable being there right now.
“Please, can you wait until Rai wakes up? I know she’d feel horrible if you left without saying goodbye,” he asked, looking sadly down at his best friend. She looked peaceful, completely conked out on the bed that he didn’t want to wake her. But he knew that she could go without sleep now with her..affliction. So gently, cautious as can be, he reached out an arm and tried to stir. “Rai?” he called out to her softly.

Rai stirred at the sound of voices. Something about Uriah? Something about leaving? Club Indigo. She heard that. Goodbye? She heard that too. Finally, Finn said her name and she slowly moved her fingers. Her throat was unbelievably dry. She groaned, rolling her face toward the sound of Finns voice. Her eyes flickered open. "Finn. Water?" she croaked, reaching out to gently touch his arm. The only issue was, as soon as she did, she could feel all that blood rushing through his veins and her hang flew back to cover her mouth. "Oh no, oh no," she muttered, her other hand coming to meet the other to cover her mouth as she tightened her eyes shut.
It wasn't water she needed.

Poe nodded when Finn gave him more information about Uriah, jotting it down in his mental notepad. He would get on that as soon as he could. But not now, because Finn was asking him to stay, and Poe couldn’t stay no to that, especially not under the circumstances. Remembering that Finn had given his cloak to Rai to try to keep her warm, Poe shed his own jacket – a leather bomber – and held it out to Finn. They were inside now, so it wasn’t necessary, but Poe had always liked wearing someone else’s clothing when he was overwhelmed. It was a physical reminder of the fact that he wasn’t alone, even when there weren’t other people around.
Rai stirred, and Poe swallowed, bracing himself. He didn’t know for what, since this was still Rai, but it turned out that Poe was right to brace himself. Rai asked for water, and they seemed to realize at the same time that water wasn’t what Rai was thirsting for. Do what she needs you to do. Poe told himself. That was his job, as her supervisor and as her friend. He had already taken off his jacket, which meant that it was simple. All Poe had to do was roll up his shirtsleeve, and then his arm was exposed. There were plenty of veins in his arm that Rai could use to feed from. Poe had donated blood to the blood bank before, so it didn’t bother him…that much. It was just a more direct means of donation this way, right. He strode over to Rai, face schooled into careful neutrality as he wordlessly offered his arm to her.

Rai didn't open her eyes at first, no matter what. She knew what would happen if she did. She would attack Finn, she could feel it. But then, there was a new smell that filled her nostrils and she gasped as if she hadn't been breathing. Maybe she hadn't been. She opened her eyes and saw Poe's arm right in front of her and she bit down on her lip, so hard that she was cutting them. She knew what he was trying to do. Trying to give her enough strength to get through until they got her to the Hospital, at least. Her eyes were fixed on his arms, on a particular vein that was drawing her in. Was she really about to do this? She had chosen to become a vampire, hadn't she? The hospitals and blood banks had blood for her to drink, right? She could do this but... she didn't have any of that now. All she had was Poe and Finn. All she had was that arm. That vein. She tore her eyes away just long enough to look at Finn, "close your eyes," she told him, her voice coming out in a choke. She turned back to Poe and lifted a hand, clasping his wrist, as she looked into his eyes. "Stop me sooner rather than later, please," she begged, her eyes showing just how serious she was about that request. She looked back down at his arm, then up at his face again. Her hands started shaking. She didn't want to do this but... somehow her teeth were sinking into him before she could stop herself and she let out strangely happy a sound as she quenched her thirst.

It hurt Poe that the first thing that Rai thought about wasn’t quenching herself, but making sure that Finn didn’t see her as a monster. He had always hoped for a friend like that, someone he loved so much that he would do anything for them. He supposed in a way people could see his friendship with Rai as that, but that was different. Poe wasn’t giving her his blood out of friendship, but out of obligation, both as her teacher and as Finn’s protector. He wished he was a better person, but if he had been given the choice, Rai wouldn’t be feeding on him right now. But there wasn’t a choice, so he was doing what he had to do. Sometimes Poe wished he didn’t have such a strong sense of duty, but it was also what made him a fantastic Auror, so…here he was.
“I’ll stop you when you’re done.” Poe replied quietly. When they went to Mungo’s, they’d have Blood Replenishing Potions available. He could just take one of those and be right as rain. It didn’t take long for Rai to finish what she was doing with his arm, and when she was done, Poe was dizzy, but still functioning. It was probably because she was a relatively new vampire, Poe reasoned as he stepped away from her and put his hand on the two puncture wounds in his arm to stop them from oozing blood. “We should be getting to the hospital.” He said matter-of-factly. The quicker they could get there, the quicker Rai could get help, and the quicker he could forget everything he had done in service of his trainees.

Finn took the jacket from Poe and without thinking, he put it on. It fit rather nice, he thought to himself. Rai stirred then and asked for water. Only it wasn’t really water she desired, all three of them knew this. Finn took a deep breath, trying to mentally prepare himself for what had to be done, when Poe went right ahead and offered his arm to her. Momentarily stunned, he watched as Rai drank hungrily. He didn’t know what to feel as he watched; a little sick, a little intrigued, and a lot confused.
“Hospital, right,” Finn said after a moment. Poe had retracted his arm and was stemming the flow of blood with his hand. He took both of them by the arm, preparing for a Side Along Apparition. He twisted and they Apparated to Saint Mungos with a pop! As the Healers descended upon them, Finn realized he was wearing Poe’s jacket still. “Hey, Poe! I have your jacket!” he said, slightly distracted watching the Healers take Rai away.

Once she stopped, Poe was so calm and collected that it made Rai want to scream. She couldn't look at him as they spoke about the hospital and then suddenly Finn's hand was on her and they were off.
Apparating after being so dizzy and loathing yourself so much was a pretty unpleasant feeling. Enough that Rai's stomach lurched upon arrival at mungo's and she almost vomited. She didn't dare look at Finn or Poe, especially since Finn HADN'T looked away when she asked him to. She could understand, though. He was worried and probably fascinated by it all, as horrible as it was. The healers were descending upon them but she pushed them aside weakly, "No, no help Poe. He's-lost some blood," she choked as she felt the tears rushing back into her eyes as if they hadn't left. Some healers moved toward her trainer but three were still on her, starting to pull her away. "Finn! Don't tell anyone, don't-" her voice cracked and her stomach lurched again, "don't tell him, Finn. Don't tell him," she cried before she just stopped struggling and let them lead her away.
