I Wear My Emotions On My Sleeve

It was the first task; finally after two whole months of speculation and anticipation it was here. Irina was seated in the stands with Adrian Grey ack, Lily Potter and of course Dan. Perhaps any random student would wonder why a Durmstrang would sit with Hogwarts students over their own school, but Dan was her boyfriend, -Mandy there were no rules to require sitting by school. Besides, Irina was one of the only people present that knew about Dans empathy and had a few ideas to help calm him down if necessary. From the sounds of the crowd, it might be.

Irina held his hand tightly as she watched her red haired friend rush through the maze. She gasped and squeezed his hand perhaps a little too tightly as she ran into the two spiders, not relinquishing her grip until she had escaped. She looked over at him and gave a sheepish grin. "Sorry love," she told him, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before searching his face. "How are you holding up?" she asked in a low voice, so the others wouldn't hear.

ripley made her way through the stands ripley spotted her sister sitting with dan and she picked her way through the crowd so she could sit with them. it looked like they had pretty good seats and she wanted to be able to keep an eye on all of the action. well on one of the people in the maze particularly. she had missed the start but she wanted to see the finish. reaching where dan and irina were sitting she sat next to her sister and smiled at the both of them. "hey you two" she said as she hugged irina from the side quickly and her eyes moved to the maze. she chewed her lips as she looked all across it before finally spotting the blonde beauxbatons student and she chewed her nail slightly.

It was time for the first task and Dan had prepared himself. He knew wen he was invited to come put his name in the Goblet that he'd have to make a few changes in order ot not have a panic attack during all this. So the crowds emotions were expected and he was reay for them. he wasn't necessarily ready to be sitting among the gryfindors, though, who had the most insane emotions he'd ever felt. Heck, you didn't even need to be an empath to know what they were feeling. It was all right, it would just take some getting used to.

Then Anna, Irina's friend and the hogwarts champion, ran into tose spiders and the entire Gryffindor house, it seemed, burst into a wave of worry, fear and intensity. Dan winced at all of it, blinked hard as if to erase all those feelings. Once Anna was safely through, though, the emotions of victory afterward were a nice breather. He barely even noticed Irina clutching his arm until she apologized and asked how he was doing, kissing his cheek. "I'm all right, darling. Thanks," he smiled softly at her. He really was doing okay, especially with her right there.

Only a few moments later Rip showed up and Dan's smile grew, though she had her own worried emotions. "Hey Ripley. Don't worry so much, Anna's gonna be fine," he said, reaching a hand across Irina to pat Rip on the arm.

Irina grinned as her little sister came and sat next to her; she wrapped her arm around Ripleys side and squeezed. “Hey Rip,” she said, planting a quick kiss on the side of her head. With a small smile, she scooted back and linked her arm through Dan’s again. “Just squeeze my hand if you need to; I can handle it,” she whispered, lacing her fingers through his and squeezing lightly. She looked curious as he mentioned that Ripley shouldn’t worry about Anna; that meant he was feeling that emotion coming from her sister. But, to her knowledge, Rip wasn’t really friends with Anna was she? Irina supposed she understood feeling worried for the Hogwarts champion out of school loyalty, but...well, she had mentioned Emile in their chat by the lake.

Frowning slightly, Irina returned her attention to the maze, where the three champions were racing through. She winced as the Durmstrang champion, Elias was attacked by flesh eating slugs. Blech, that was sure to leave a mark. She was half-tempted to make a mark about Maria, but decided against it; it wasn’t worth her time. Then, she saw Emile reach a tree; as he contemplated, Irina did not watch him. Instead, she turned to look at Ripley, then back to Dan to see if she could gage what he was feeling. Curiouser and curiouser indeed; was Ripley really just worried about Anna, or someone else?

"Hey Ripley. Don't worry so much, Anna's gonna be fine," anna? why was he talking about anna. oh right! anna .. she wasn't thinking about anna and even as she sat there with dan patting her arm and talking about anna she couldn't let the fellow red headed student into her head. it was too taken up with worry about someone else. she hated it. they weren't anything, they had spoken twice (made out too but she wasn't going to tell irina that) and here she was worrying over him. that wasn't like her at all. "anna'll be fine" she mumbled distractedly as she chewed her nail and watched emile start to climb over the large tree he had come across. she leaned forward slightly and kept watching, hoping he got over it okay. he seemed to be lagging though. that was bad right? that wasn't good. she rested her elbow on her knee and kept chewing on her nail as the worry radiated from her. she glanced at her sister and dan and she smiled at their laced hands. "that's cute. you two are adorable" she heard a gasp from the crowd and her head swung back to the maze, her eyes darting across where she thought emile had been but she couldn't see him now. she was going to give him hell for making her worry like this. even thought it wasn't really his fault .. he wasn't thinking about her at the moment and she shouldn't be thinking about him. it was stupid. he was only a boy. a boy that she had kissed in honeydukes .. merlin she'd enjoyed that. she couldn't help thinking about it in that very moment, a small smile playing on her lips as she hid it behind her hand and watched the maze.

Dan nodded at Ri as she offered for him to squeeze her hand if he needed to. "Same to you, Love," he offered. Irinas emotions weren't bothering him, though, as they rarely did now. But Ripleys... they were like knives. Confusing ones, too. She was stressed, worried, and for a moment, panicked. But then she was... happy? Wistful? Giddy? He turned toward the younger girl, seeing that small smile on her face. He elbowed Irina and pointed at Rip. He raised an eyebrow at Irina and then shrugged, turning back to Rip. "What's on your mind, kid?"

Irina looked over at Dan as he elbowed her, shrugging then looking over at Ripley. Irina’s head snapped back to focus on her sister as Dan asked what was on her mind. “Or who?” she said boldly, raising an eyebrow at her. Ripley had mentioned Emile once before, challenging Irina on how he wasn’t really a bad person, or a pompous prat. Irina still had not seen any evidence to the contrary, but trusted her sisters judgement. At least, for the most part. “Were you defending Emile Ripley because there’s more to your story than what you’ve let on?” she asked, looking at her little sister with a determined glint in her eyes. Was she being nosy? Yes, yes she was. But it was her duty as elder sister to make sure her sister was making good choices in life and she couldn’t exactly call Emile a “good” choice, not yet at least.

"What's on your mind, kid?" kid? was he talking to her? she tore her eyes away from the maze, albeit a little begrudgingly as she turned to see daniel and her sister looking at her. “Or who?” oh she was going to go on about this again. how had they known something was wrong with her? apart from the nail biting she hadn't even been looking at them. "i'm not--" she tried to answer them both but got cut off when irina decided to add something onto her who question. “Were you defending Emile Ripley because there’s more to your story than what you’ve let on?” ripley let her eyes narrow slightly and she couldn't help but feel an annoyance toward her sister. had she had to go there? "i was defending emile because of opinions you made about him before you really had anything to do with him" she said, with a little more heat that probably needed. she couldn't explain why she felt more on edge than normal but she turned her head back to the maze and shifted her body slightly, trying to make it clear that she didn't want to talk about it anymore. then she saw where emile was .. he was standing in the middle of a path, something huge standing just ahead of him and her eyes widened a little. a manticore!? who the heck had put that in there .. she chewed her lip as instead of running from it, like any sane person, he stood and fought it. oh god it was going to kill him .. she felt stabs of worry through her soul as she watched him fight it, leaning forward slightly as there was an explosion from the maze and she gripped the seat beside her, trying to see through the smoke of what had happened. to see if he was still alive ..

Dan was confused at Irinas mention of Emily and he kept his eyes on Rip. Ripleys emotionals gave her away and so did that slight heat that came with her comment. That caused Dan to smile, but the smile quickly left when Rips eyes widened at the visual of the maze.

He spun to face it, seeing Emile facing a Manticore. Dan grimaced, that couldn't end well. But, the guy fought it and actually won. He turned to Rip, her worry intense as she tried to see what had happened. "I think he's okay, Rip. Hey, it's okay," he reached over and actually patted Rip's knee.

Irina just raised a brow at Ripley as she got defensive. Man, Emile was really getting under her skin wasn’t he. She just hoped that he wasn’t trying to take advantage of Rip, though to be honest Irina was pretty sure Ripley could destroy him if he made her angry enough. Ripley gasped, and Irina’s head turned towards the maze where Emile was fighting the manticore. Her head turned, not to Ripley but to Dan, and she put her other hand over the ones that were entwined. She didn’t even need to look at her sister to figure out she was currently terrified; Irina was feeling a bit worried herself. Manticores were dangerous beasts for even trained professionals to handle, and a seventh year who had proven he was cocky was concerning to watch face it.


She was astonished to see that she hadn’t needed to feel concerned about Dan though; he grimaced once and then reached over to pat Ripley’s knee. A small smile spread on her face as she kissed the side of his head gently. “You okay?” she whispered quietly.

"I think he's okay, Rip. Hey, it's okay," she felt dan patting her knee and she patted his hand lightly as she kept her eyes on the maze. how the hell had he gone up against a manticore and won? even by emile standards that was stupid and lucky of him. she was glad though when he got up and kept moving through the maze. a welcome relief for a few moments because when she saw him the next time she was going to hit him. she ran a hand through her hair and glanced over to dan and irina and she raised a brow slightly. "ugh you two are so sweet it's rotting my teeth" she said as she nudged irina's shoulder slightly and she relaxed in the seat she was sitting in. now it seemed the maze was slighly less dangerous she could relax for just a little while, till the next thing jumped out and tried to get rid of the neck she enjoyed biting so much.

Ri asked if he was okay, and he nodded but then looked back to Ripley. "Ask her," Dan said softly as Rip patted his hand. He pulled his hand back into his lap and put an arm around Irina at Rips words. 'Awe, thanks Rip. So's that worry on your face for Emile there," he took a guess based off what he was reading in her, and he turned back toward the maze before he could see if he was right or not. Her emotions would no doubt give her away, though.

Irina’s head whipped around to look at her sister, then back at Dan as he made the offhand comment about Ripley and Emile. Dan seemed to have a way of enticing certain people who were obviously mad for each other to face the truth. She glanced up at Lily and Adrian quickly before looking back to her sister. “Just admit your feelings and all will be well. See how happy it’s made us?” she said teasingly, perhaps a little louder than normal. She could of course just blame the noisy crowds for speaking loudly but honestly she wanted more than just Ripley to hear it.

'Awe, thanks Rip. So's that worry on your face for Emile there," she couldn't help but narrow her eyes as she looked at dan. they couldn't take the hint she hadn't wanted to talk about it? least of all with them? she sighed and shook her head, rubbing her hand down her face and resting it in her palm for a moment till she heard irina's voice chip into dan's prodding about emile. “Just admit your feelings and all will be well. See how happy it’s made us?” she lifted her head sharply as her temper suddenly flared. irina was going to act like her telling them was a good thing? "all will be well? you've already made it perfectly clear that you don't like him. are you suddenly going to change your mind if i tell you what you want to hear? what both of you are so convinced i'm feeling?" she said as she frowned a little. things would not be better. she knew irina didn't like emile, she had made that clear when she had been trying to guess who ripley had been watching from afar the last day they had sat at the pond. "you'd be about as happy as nik was when he found out about you two. so drop it. please, lets just watch the race" she said as she turned her head back to the maze, trying to calm herself as she searched the green maze before them for the champions, she didn't care which one in that moment, she just wanted a distraction.

Well, that was unexpected, And yet, Dan laughed. He laughed and leaned away from the girls, shaking his head and looking up at the sky for a moment. Classic Krum behavior. He turned back to them, eyes on Rip, his smile still in place. "Yeah, let's watch the race," he agreed, reaching over to take Irinas hand. Dan decided then that it was about time to tell Rip about his powers but... well, that could wait til after the task.

The race was coming to a close and Emile was doing insanely well. Dan felt bad for Elias, his own schools champ. Anna wasn't far behind Emile, but her blindness wasn't working well for her...
