Apparently his question was a hard one. Not that Hugo thought she had a mental list of all the people she wished would come and visit, he just thought there might be a few she could tell him off the top of her head. It was probably a good thing that she couldn't. Meant that she was happier than she let on, right? "Alright, I'll just see if I can convince a few strangers to come over and give you a visit," Hu tried to keep a straight face. Granted, he was planning on asking some of his friends (that might not know Xan so much) to go and visit her, but he had to tease her a little bit. Anything he could do to get her to smile a little, even if it was because he was being ridiculous, was worth it to Hugo. When she said she didn't mind his face, Hugo lifted his right hand and pretended to brush some sweat off his forehead. "Whew. You had me worried there for a second Xan. I wasn't sure you wanted me around anymore." Of course that was a lie, and he was positive she would know that. If he hadn't been positive, Hugo wouldn't have said it.

Xan giggled when Hugo said he could convince a few strangers to join him in the hospital wing. That actually didn’t sound like a bad idea – she’d get to meet new people and have a conversation with someone who wasn’t constantly obsessing over her health. “See if you can get some Slytherins.” Xan advised. “I only have on Slytherin friend, and I’d like some more.” And Xan had never specifically asked Edmund to come visit her in the hospital wing, really. Come to think of it, she didn’t have many Hufflepuff friends, either – just Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Which was really to be expected, but still, Xan was always interested in diversifying the people that she met. She laughed again, louder, when Hugo said that he wasn’t sure if she wanted him around anymore. “Oh, be quiet, you.” She said, leaning over to swat him on the shoulder. “Of course I want you around. I’ll always want you around.” Because that was one thing that Xan would never, ever change her mind on.

Hugo leaned back in his chair when she mentioned him trying to bring some Slytherins. "Slytherins, huh? I don't have many ins with them, but I'll see what I can do," he promised. Really, he would do anything he could to lift Xan's spirits. He wanted her to be happy no matter what. "Any other requests? You can be specific if you want, Slytherin sixth years, hufflepuff fifth years and gryffindor fourth years too." He was teasing her, but she was in a good mood, so he thought this might bring a smile at least, a laugh and her teasing him back at best. Hu laughed when she swatted his shoulder, telling him that she would always want him around. "Good," he told her with another smile, though this one was more serious. "Because like it or not, I'm always going to be around." Just in case there was any doubt of it, he figured he might as well say it out loud. There was only one thing that would make him leave- her asking him to. Even then, Hugo wasn't sure if he'd be able to respect those wishes. He cared for her too much.

Xan knew that Hugo didn’t have many ins to Slytherin; asking him for them was a way to get him involved with a broader circle of people, in a kind of sneaky way. She wasn’t exactly a Slytherin-in-the-making, but that was something that a Slytherin would do, right? And she wanted to see more people, of course. Hugo teased her, asking if she had any other, more specific, requests. She didn’t, really – just wanted to see more of a variety of people, and she already had a few people from the other houses who were coming to see her already.
Hugo said that he was always going to be there, and tears instantly sprang into Xan’s eyes. It was silly, because she knew that already, and It wasn’t a sad thing at all. But she always wanted Hugo to be there, and she wanted to be there for him, and one of the scariest parts about being sick was that she wasn’t sure if she would be. “I hope that I’ll be around too, Hu.” Xan said quietly. “Because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Just like he had seen would happen already.

She didn't say that she had anyone else she wanted to visit her, so Hugo decided to let it drop. He was going to start having to make some friends from other houses. Either that or he'd start walking up to people and telling them to go visit his girlfriend in the Hospital Wing. Or maybe he could just bring them with him. Hmm ... this was something he was definitely going to have to think more on.
Hugo noticed the tears in her eyes, but he wasn't about to comment on them. He didn't want to make anything worse for her in any way, as long as he could help it. Without thinking about it, he reached forward, his only thought that he wanted to wrap her in his arms. Xan told him that she hoped she'd be there in the future and he shook his head. "Xan, I know you don't quite believe me right now, but you will be there. Don't give up hope. We will spend our lives together." He knew this might start another fight, but he couldn't listen to her say something like that without reaffirming what he already knew. He didn't know how or when, but Xan was going to come out of this and be just fine.

Hugo’s arms wrapped around Xan, and she leaned into him and his warmth. It was natural warmth, not the unnatural warmth that she felt in the grips of her fevers. The tears that were pooling in her eyes began to spill over. Xan was a little relieved that Hugo couldn’t see her crying, because she didn’t want his pity. Sometimes she just wanted to cry. “I hope that you’re right, Hugo.” She said. Even if Hugo couldn’t see the tears, he would definitely be able to hear them in the tightness in Xan’s voice and the way that it shook. Xan leaned closer to Hugo, squeezing him tightly. Even if they didn’t get the rest of their lives together, at least they’d have that moment, there in each other’s arms.
