@dominique waiting was the worst part. here he was, standing by a small boat on the edge of the black lake waiting for dom to arrive. he didn't know why he was so nervous if he was being honest with himself. him and dom had been friends fro years and today wasn't going to be any different. other than the fact it was going to be a date. their first. ranger had finally plucked up the courage to ask her. both of them had been sort of attatched for the last while. dom with finn jordan and him and helena had had something, though he wasn't sure what, going on between them but now she had decided she didn't want to give him the time of day. which was fine with him. he looked into the boat and double checked he had everything he needed. he'd asked the house elves to make up a basket of food for them. he was pretty sure it was sanwiches and a few other bits and bobs for them to eat. pumpkin juice in a flask though he had packed some soda in there too, just in case dom wanted some of that. he hadn't told dom what he had planned for their date. he'd just told her the time and where to meet him. he sat on the sand by the boat as he waited, keeping his eyes on the path that led to the castle.

Dom was excited. She loved going on dates! Especially the first few dates where it was all getting-to-know-you-better and fun. She hadn't really expected Ranger to ask her out, but he had and she definitely thought they were going to have a good time. Still, Dom was never very good at waiting. She preferred to be out and about, doing things. Yes, homework counted as a thing. Luckily, she didn't have to worry about that right now. Unluckily, she didn't really have anything else to do. So Dom decided to go for a walk. It was too early for her to meet Ranger- she didn't want to show up super early and throw him off- so she'd just waste time on her own for a little bit before meeting with him. She started by wandering around the corridors at school, then wandered around the grounds until it was almost time for her to meet with him. As she approached from the direction of the forbidden forest, Dom grinned at the sight of Ranger. His directions were focused on the path that lead to the castle. He was obviously waiting for her, but looking in the wrong direction. Trying to be as sneaky as she could, Dom crept up behind him, wondering how close she could get before he noticed. When she was close enough to almost be able to touch him, she reached forward and grabbed his arm, whispering, "Boo!" Most people she would have jumped at, but Ranger was so focused on the path that she was nervous she'd freak him out and he might attack or something. And that would not make a good start to their date. "So what are we doing today?" Dom cocked her head to the side curiously, a smile twitching on the corner of her mouth.

@dominique "Boo!" honestly if he hadn't felt the soft touch on his arm before the voice that flitted softly into his ears he would have jumped a mile and probably gone on the defensive. though in his past experience, anything that touched him as softly as she had wasn't going to hurt him. he was sure one day that would be proved wrong but right now it was enough to keep him from going over. he turned to her and he smiled slightly, the sight of the familiar smile and flash of red hair calmed his nerves almost straight away and he felt himself relaxing slightly. "So what are we doing today?" he smiled as he motioned to the boat that was sitting on the water's edge with the basket. "i thought a picnic in the middle of the lake would be nice" he said as he moved to step back from her toward the boat, holding his hand out to her lightly so he could help her step into the sturdy contraption.

He hardly jumped! Dom was slightly disappointed that he hadn't reacted a teensy bit more violently to her sudden appearance. Not that she wanted him to be violent, but a nice jump would have been great. Darn. Instead, he turned smoothly, smiling at her in the process. He did have a nice smile. And he was cute and fun. It was going to be a good day. Then he answered her question and Dom turned to look at the boat he referred. "That sounds like so much fun!" Dom responded enthusiastically. And it was creative; something she'd never done before. Dom was always in the mood for that. She walked over to the boat with him, taking his hand as he offered to help her into the boat. "Are you a little nervous I'm going to tip it?" She asked, wiggling an eyebrow at him as she teased."Are you going to teach me how to help row? Because if you know me at all, I will end up tipping the boat over if I don't have something to do ..." Yes it was a threat, but he asked her out! Knowing her personality quirks and inability to sit still. He knew her well enough to expect that, right? "What food did you get?" She asked once they were a little further out.

@dominique "That sounds like so much fun. Are you a little nervous I'm going to tip it?" he laughed as she took his hand and he shook his head slightly, moving to help her into the boat. "no, it's the polite thing to do." he said with a smile as he moved to settle onto one of the seats, the seat that the basket was tucked under. he took up the oar and settled them in his hands. "Are you going to teach me how to help row? Because if you know me at all, I will end up tipping the boat over if I don't have something to do ..." he laughed slightly and looked at her. he believed her. he knew she'd try and top the boat out of boredom, it was one of the things that had prompted him to ask her out on the date. "well if you want to ... come sit here?" he motioned to the seat next to him so she would be able to take one of the oars. "What food did you get?" he grinned and looked at her. "you'll just have to wait and find out."

She laughed, "Ahh, so you're the polite type," she teased with a smile. As much as she was teasing him about a possible tipping of the boat into the water, she didn't really want to get wet. At least not this early on in the date. He told her to come and sit next to him and Dom nodded, biting her lip as she stood up carefully. She laughed when he said she'd have to wait and find out what food he brought but didn't say anything because she was focusing on her walking. She gingerly crossed the boat and then, right as she was about to sit down her foot slipped on something. With a squeal, Dom felt herself falling over. She closed her eyes and threw out her hands, hoping to catch herself and that she wouldn't tip the boat over, but she couldn't promise anything.
@ranger (haha sorry, couldn't help it! If you want them to tip over, that's fine, but if you want the boat to stay the way it's supposed to that's cool with me too!) <3

@dominique as he watched her try to pick her away across the small boat, he moved to set the oars down, making sure they didn't slip into the water. he wanted his hands free in case she slipped or something jolted the boat. who knew what sort of mood the giant squid was in at that moment. then it happened, what he'd put the oars down for. he saw her foot slip and in the same moment he was up on his own feet, leaving one foot by the seat he'd been sitting on though to keep the weight even as the boat rocked slightly, the danger of tipping over suddenly very real. he reached to catch her though, trying to wrap his arm around her waist so he could pull her close against his chest so they were both centered and it would hopefully stop the boat from rocking like it was. he laughed slightly as he looked at her. "i doubt the food wants a soaking" he said with a smile. "are you alright?"

She didn't even notice Ranger putting the oars down, but when he caught her, Dom was grateful that he did. One of her hands grabbed his shirt, the other one taking hold of one of his arms as she tried to freeze and steady herself simultaneously. Dom didn't want to fall into the Lake yet. That would probably ruin his whole plan for whatever they were going to do. She looked up and him and giggled, shaking her head. "I'm fine, just slipped on something. By the way, contrary to what you might be thinking, I did not do that on purpose. I promise," she told him. After a few more seconds she nodded to show she was ready to move. She sat down on the bench she'd been originally moving towards. "All right! You ready to teach me how to do this?"

@dominique "I'm fine, just slipped on something. By the way, contrary to what you might be thinking, I did not do that on purpose. I promise," he grinned when she pointed out that it hadn't been on purpose. well he would still tease her about it for a while to come. it wasn't exactly something you wanted to happen on a date but it was one of those things that had come close to being a funny story to tell. "scouts honor, i wasn't going to say anything." he said with a grin as he shifted slightly so she could sit down on the bench with him as he reached to pick the oars back up off the floor. "All right! You ready to teach me how to do this?" he grinned and with a nod he started to show her how to use them. how to turn the boat if she wanted and how to change the direction they were going. when he was sure she had it he stopped rowing and made to hand them to her. "just so you know, if you drop them. we're stuck out here." he teased.

Dom narrowed her eyes at Ranger. "You weren't going to say anything there or every. Because if I know you at all ... you're going to tease me about this eventually." Yeah, she called him out on it. That was the kind of mood Dom was in at the moment. But that was okay because Ranger knew her. Hopefully he wouldn't take offense because she was teasing him on their date. She couldn't help it. She nodded when he asked if she was ready and then watched carefully as he showed her how to use the oars. After a few minutes, he handed them to her and Dom took them, laughing at his warning. "Yeah, because we couldn't just summon them back," she teased with a small roll of her eyes. "Don't worry, I think I've already complicated things enough for one night." Which wouldn't necessarily stop her from another accidental mess up, but she'd deal with that when it came. Dom started rowing and, after a few minutes, laughed at her success. "So are we supposed to be going anywhere specific?" She asked Ranger curiously. She wasn't sure if he wanted to eat out here or if he had a place on land planned out for food.

@dominique "So are we supposed to be going anywhere specific?" ranger grinned a little and shook his head. "well i was thinking just the middle of the lake." it was one of his favorite places to sit and ponder the world. often he brought anna out with him but today he had thought dom might like it. when they reached it he stowed the oars and pulled the basket out from under the seat, smiling as they settled into an afternoon of talking, food and laughing.
-- end.
