Andy and Susan arrived at the ball together, Andy in the green dress she had chosen this summer with Anna. Andy and Susan watched as Neville gave the announcement and invited the Champions and their partners to come take the floor. Andy gave Anna a little wave as she and Oscar passed her. Andy bit down on her lip, why were her eyes getting misty? Maybe it was because she was so proud of Anna, maybe it was because she was excited to be there with Susan, and maybe it was because she wish more than anything that Phil could be there.
It was Christmas night and Andy had really only wanted one thing for Christmas. Still, Phil and told Andy that he gave a present to Neville and that Neville was supposed to give it to her tonight. She'd have to ask him later, though, because Neville was a bit busy right at the moment. That was all right, though. She turned to Susan once the first dance was over, "shall we?" she half teased, offering a hand to her friend, "may as well dance while we're here, right?" she said with a chuckle. She looked good, she felt good, she felt happy. Phil or not, she was determined to have fun tonight. Heck, she needed to hunt down Jayden later and ask him for a dance or two as well.
The air felt strange, though. Surreal, even. She felt like a weight was being lifted off her shoulders, like she could just float away. Like all of the horrible things she'd done never happened. Like Phil was there beside her, somehow, encouraging her to hope. She took Susans hand and began backing toward the dance floor, blinking back the moisture in her eyes. "Come on, I'll dance the male part."

Susan was excited for so many reasons, but especially for her best friend. She knew Andy had had a rough go of it this semester and a large chunk of it was to do with the absence of Philip Longbottom. Well, she was about to have the night of her life! Phil had written Susan last month asking for her help in surprising his girlfriend at Christmas, and she had been more than happy to oblige. Andy was wearing a green dress to the ball and looked lovely; Susan herself wore a red gown with gold embellishments. She only wished Casey could see her in it. Oh well, she supposed he wasn’t having too much fun working at Saint Mungos, so she could take that to heart. “Of course we can dance!” she exclaimed, allowing Andy to lead her out onto the dance floor. She twirled her friend around once with a giggle before allowing Andy to lead. She was used to being the female partner in a waltz simply due to her royal upbringing; this sort of dance did make her miss Will a bit. She’d just have to go find Ed later she supposed and rope him into a dance and show off those royal dance moves. “Awww Andy no crying,” she said, reaching out and wiping a tear that was threatening to slide down Andy’s cheek. “Tonight will be magical, I promise you that,” she said, squeezing her hand tightly. @lestrange @superluigi64 , @philiplongbottom DRESSY

Andy grinned as Susan agreed to dance with her and they were off. Soon Andy was getting wrapped up in those thoughts and Susan caught her, reaching to wipe under Andy's eye. Andy smiled softly, her eyes crinkling at the sides. "You really think so?" she said softly. Susan was right. Tonight would be magical and Andy was going to make sure of it. She took a deep breath, and took Susans waist, then her hand, and pulled her toward her as a waltz begun. "I used to be the man part a lot when I was a kid. Mum and dad said it was more important for my sister to learn the right part then me," she chuckled, spinning Susan under her arm. "Maybe it's a good thing Phil isn't here or I'd have to be a lady," she joked.

As Andy told her how she knew to lead in the waltz, Susan found it both hilarious and sad at the same time. “You’re plenty a lady Andromeda Lestrange!” she exclaimed; they must have looked like quite a pair dancing a near perfect waltz with the rest of the couples out on the floor. “Besides, if we’re being completely honest, I doubt Phil would care if you led the dance or not,” she said, giggling at the thought of Andy steering Phil around on the dance floor. That would be quite a funny scene to behold. And speaking of Phil….
Susan saw the Headmaster leave his wife and make his way closer to them. She tried to maintain her composure but inside she was screaming with delight. Phil must be there in the Entrance Hall, waiting to make his entrance! “Looks like the Headmaster is coming over to scold us,” Susan teased, nodding as Neville came closer to the pair.

He parted the crowd easily, still with that kingly look about him. Hannah, of course, was in on everything, so after they finished the first waltz, she had pulled him off the dance floor so he could be ready when the time came. The ball would go on for hours, so they would have plenty of time to get their dancing out of their systems. Though, it had been a while since they'd gone dancing. Who knew how many dances they would need to have to feel satisfied?
Susan noticed him first. She didn't let anything on, which, considering how giggly she'd been about the whole thing while they arranged the details, was impressive. He could see her directing Andy's attention toward him, and so he forced a scowl onto his face as he stopped in front of the pair to wave an accusing finger at Andromeda. “Not even saving the first dance for your father?” he asked sternly, though he couldn't quite keep the amusement out of his demeanor.
He held out his hand to Andy. “May I?”

Andy laughed at the image Susan put in her mind, "I know how to do the ladies part! If Phil was here I'd be incredibly lady like," she chuckled. She perfect contented to be dancing with Susan, though. Then, Susan nodded behind her and mentioned Neville. Andy smiled, turning around, just to see a scowl on his face. Her jaw dropped for a moment until the words came out of his mouth, then she grinned again.
"My apologies," she said, separating from Susan and giving him a small curtsy. "Su, do you mind?" she doubled checked before taking Nevilles outstretched hand. She couldn't help thinking of Phil for a moment, especially since that amused twinkle in Nevilles eyes. She tightened her grip on his hand and stepped toward him, "won't your wife miss you?" she teased, looking over his shoulder to find Hannah. She found her and then looked back to her new dance partner.

He bowed to her curtsy and took her hand as they stepped into the dance. Unlike most purebloods, Neville was not trained in ballroom dancing as a child, but he had developed an interest for it practicing for the Yule Ball, and he loved taking Hannah dancing, so he was probably better at it by now than many other purebloods of his age who only brought their dancing out for these few formal events.
“Won't your wife miss you?”
He grinned. “I think she's willing to share with my daughter for a short time,” he replied, then lowered his voice conspiratorially. “Plus I think she's hoping to find Jay and get him to dance.” They stepped through the crowd, a whirlwind of color around them, made only brighter by the fact that the Great Hall was normally filled with people dressed in all black. “So how are you liking the ball so far?”

Andy shouldn't have been surprised by how well he could dance, but she was. She was both surprised and excited by it. She wanted to ask him where he learned, how long he'd been dancing, mention how lucky Hannah was too have him as a dance partner. But her words caught in her throat, as well as what seemed to be a large rock. She swallowed, blinking hard.
He spoke about how Hannah was willing to share with her and she chuckled, nodding once. "Awe, I'm hoping to find Jay too at some point," she said. "It's a beautiful ball, really," she said, and she meant it, but there was that underlying tone of sadness laced through the words. She breathed in and tried to make a bigger smile, "Phil would have liked it, I think. We may have to throw a personal New Years eve ball for him next week," she said, her stomach flipping happily at the idea.

Susan gave Andy’s hands to Neville with a small curtsey and slowly backed away, melting into the crowd. Neville’s arrival to dance with her best friend meant that Phil was waiting for her out in the Entrance Hall. As soon as she could tell Andromeda was distracted, Susan scurried out of the ballroom and looked around the people mingling about. Quickly she spotted the familiar blonde head and she raced over to Phil. “Good to see you in one piece!” she exclaimed, giving him a quick hug before grabbing his hand. “Come on, the love of your life is waiting for you," she told him, a warm smile plastered on her face. She led him to the edge of the ballroom before facing him. “Ready?” she asked, putting one hand on his shoulder and taking his other hand in hers. She counted out and they began to waltz, slowly but surely making their way over to Andy and Neville. Susan’s heart was pounding painfully; she was over the moon excited for this moment and she couldn’t wait to see her best friends’ reaction.

He grinned. “Jay will probably be around here with Saoirse somewhere. Remember, it's your right as big sister to embarrass the blonde right out of him if you can manage it.” He doubted Andy would go so far, of course, but siblings needed to give one another hard times occasionally.
As he heard her talk about maybe throwing a miniature ball for Phil, Neville spotted his son along with Susan making their way through the crowd. His ehigh advantage guaranteed he would see them first. He smiled down at Andy. “Ever worked Christmas magic before?”
“Christmas magic lets you grant wishes. We cashed ours in a little early last year, when your sister wished for a new home for herself and for you. But we haven't used any this year. So let's work some. Close your eyes. Keep them closed, and don't worry about the dance, I'll lead you.” That way, she wouldn't notice the other pair even as they got closer. He shifted the dance subtly to let their dance close the gap as well.
“Now, concentrate on what you want most right now. Don't tell me! It won't work if you tell someone your wish. And don't worry about whether it's possible or not. Christmas magic isn't about wishing for possibilities. It's about wishing for what you really, truly want.” They slipped through the crowd, and now Phil and Susan were plenty close. Just a little bit more...
“Let the world fall away and only think about what you want most.”
And then they were separating, touching only at their fingertips while he twirled her, but while Andy still danced normally, Neville had turned almost completely away from her, so he could bend his elbow right to pass over Phil's head, letting them swap dance partners without Andy even noticing the change.
Neville quickly recovered, taking Susan's hand with his own, even as he cupped his other hand over his mouth, muttered a few words, and then made a gesture at Andy like he was blowing a kiss.
His last whisper floated through the air to reach her ears.
“Now open your eyes.”

@lestrange Phil stood in the great hall, adjusting his hair, fidgeting with his collar. Was it supposed to be so tight? His hands clasped together and he rubbed them roughly together. Was this anxiety or anticipation? Fear or excitement? It was strange how often the far ends of spectrums could be confused for each other. Breathe in. His breath was shallow, but with effort it became more regular. That is until he saw Susan. It was time. He had been planning this for a month, working out everything he could from Brazil. But now it was happening. He was here, back at Hogwarts and Andy was just on the other side of those doors. Maybe he should just abandon the plan, bust through the doors and wrap her in his arms. Susan would kill him. The smile on her face made him think she might be more excited than he was! She gave him a big hug and took his hand. "Come on the love of your life is waiting for you." Did she even know how true her words were? He didn't trust himself to speak, so he just let her lead him into the great hall. Susan asked if he was ready. Was he? He didn't know--- There she was. It was like his heart started beating for the first time since he had left her side. Andromeda. He let out the breath he was holding and moved into his position next to Susan. "I've been waiting for this for years." He replied, picking up the tempo of the song and letting his many years of waltzing training take over. They moved gracefully, slowly, circling toward Andy and his dad. Andy was stunning, her dress seemed as if it had been grown just for her. And it was green. He smiled. She had done that for him. The song ended and the next started. Phil couldn't help but smile. It was perfect. He let go of Susan, taking Andy in his arms as his dad spun her toward him. He wanted to smile at his dad, nod to him, thank him. At that moment, the moment his hand touched Andy's, he couldn't do anything but relish the thought of holding her in his arms. "Merry Christmas." He whispered as she opened her eyes. @superluigi64 @susanvictoria

Andy's smile widened. "I guess since Alice isn't here it's my job, isn't it?" she chuckled. She'd be happy to goof of with Phil a bit. No, Jayden. Jayden. Phil wasn't here.
Neville asked if she'd ever worked 'Christmas Magic' before and she shook her head. Unless kissing Phil under that mistletoe counted. She stayed silent as he started to explain. She couldn't help her eyes from getting misty as he spoke about taking her and her sister in last year and how that was their magic then. He said that they hadn't used any this year and she tilted her head to the side. Did this have something to do with the present Phil had for her? She still needed to ask Neville about that.
She was told to close her eyes and she did, which made her instinctively tighten her hold on his hand. She trusted him, though, not to lead her to bump into anyone or anything.
He told her to concentrate on what she wanted most and her grip on him loosened slightly. It was obvious what she wanted. Phil. Philip Longbottom She felt her lips pull into a smile at the thought. She imagined she was dancing with him, with Phil. She could practically smell him and Nevilles hand started to feel softer, even though they were barely touching now.
“Let the world fall away and only think about what you want most.”
She did. She let everything go until she was being spun away, her eyes still closed. He was back in his arms soon, though. Phil or Neville or whoever. If she kept her eyes closed she could pretend it was Phil, it felt just like him... The music started to change. A beautiful song, a steady beat. She smiled wider. Phil would like this song.
“Now open your eyes.”
"But-" she stopped herself. Enough games. She couldn't make Phil appear just by closing her eyes. That wasn't possible. She appreciated Nevilles effort, though. She slowly opened her eyes and heard, ""Merry Christmas."
She knew that voice. Her eyes snapped open the rest of the way and her heart completely stopped beating. Her breath caught in her throat, and she was sure that she'd never get it back. It was like everything slowed down, but somehow she was still able to dance. Still able to move.
Suddenly her heart was pounding again, her blood rushing into her body and to her lips. She breathed again, more than she had in months and that breath came out in a shaky laugh.
So many words she could say, but only a few came out. "I love you. I love you," she said, her voice louder than she meant for it to be. She let go of the waltz pose in order to threw her arms around his shoulders and pull him toward her in a hug. Then she laughed again, and that laugh turned into tears, but not bad ones.
She'd never cried happy tears like this before, it was a strangely euphoric feeling. She held him tight, her hand finding his hair and her face buried in his neck.

@lestrange As Andy realized he, Phil, was the one holding her, he made sure to memorize everything about the next few moments. The soft christmas lights twinkling, the people all around them but the feeling of solitude. Her hand in his, the welcoming feel of his eyes meeting hers and knowing that everything, no matter what it was, would be okay. He felt her breath rush into her chest, saw the disbelief vanish from her vision and joy spread across her face. Phil knew his own face mirrored hers, a smile bursting across his lips and his breath coming in short bursts as he began laughing. I love you, I love you." Her words caused a few people to glance at them, and more than a few eyes lingered on the happy pair. Andy threw her arms around his neck, crying into his suit jacket. But he didn't care. That was what it was for, if that was what Andy needed it for. He let his hands wrap around her waist pulling her as tight to him as he could. His own tears escaped the protective boundries of his eyes, spilling down his cheeks. "I love you Andy." he whispered, kissing the top of her head then renewing his hug with more vigor.

"I love you Andy." The reality of the situation set in with those words, with that kiss on her head, with the tightening of their hug. Her shoulders shook with crying and, finally, she opened her eyes and looked up. She could see Neville and Susan dancing there when she did, behind Phil. She tried to pour every ounce of her thanks into that look, as well as a little scolding for keeping such a big surprise from her. It was short, but they would have understood it. She leaned back just enough to look into Phils eyes again, moving her hand from his hair to the side of his face. She bit her lips and let out another half sob, half laugh. She shook her head a little, just trying to take it all in.
"Dance with me," she said softly, slowly gliding one of her hands down his arm to take his hand. She stepped in close to him, though, breaking proper waltz posture to do so. The song burned in loudly in her ears, but it was a good burn. She couldn't even hear the people talking around her. Though, as they spun, her eyes caught sight of different people over his shoulder. Jayden, Hannah, Anna... but they found Phils once more and stopped looking.
He was home again, and so was she.

@lestrange After a moment they broke apart, she cupping his cheek in her hand. She closed his eyes at her touch, sighing in contentment. His cupped her hand in his, kissing her palm. She mentioned the dancing, sliding her other hand to rest on his arm. He brought their linked hands out to a semi correct waltz position. They were too close for it to be completely correct. Andy wanted to dance? Phil was going to dance. He fell into the steps, pulling her along with him, leading her into each step, each turn, seemlessly. The dance felt as if they hd practiced it a million times. They spun away from each other, always coming back. Phil didn't let his eyes leave hers, and in those moments, he didn't feel the need to speak. There would be time for that later. The song entered a crechedo, the climax, and Phil raised his hand, spinning Andy under it then gently leading her into a sweeping dip, holding it well past the last notes of the song. How did all of this even come to happen? Pulling her up and spinning her into his chest he kept a hold of her hand and touched his forehead to hers. "Walk with me?" he asked, leaning his head slightly toward the open doors leading away from the ballroom. @superluigi64 @susanvictoria @casey PhilAndy out guys, You all get gold stars and 10,000,000,000amazing points for bringing your A game to the floor today.
