"What are some of the things you've seen?" Evelyn asked curiously. She wasn't trying to be annoying, but she was trying to figure out this job. "Are there some things you see more commonly than others? And is it busy in your department." Ev hadn't really heard of a lot of people needing to go to St. Mungos because of poisons so she couldn't help but wonder if it was slow there and they did a lot of research, or if there were more people that went there than she suspected. Ev gave a sly smile, "Well we Quidditch players do tend to stay out of plants and away from poisons. We're in the air too much for our own good." Though Ev wouldn't be surprised if one of these days she had to go visit Natalia. She and Rocco could get on the more exciting side of life and if she was able to convince him to go to Africa with her ... well who was to say that they wouldn't run into some type of poison or dangerous plant. "Who knows? I might end up coming to visit you someday," she said casually, her mind now on her plans for Africa. When was she going to see Rocco?

The things she’d seen? Nat didn’t want to talk about that right now. “Ugly things.” She said simply. She didn’t want to talk about it, and Evelyn probably didn’t want to hear it, not really. “I can tell you later…but not now.” Natalia said. “I see a lot of people in pretty rough shape, but there are a lot of different ways to poison someone, so most of the time, it’s something different.” Nat took a deep breath, and then let it out. “It’s busy, yeah. Hence why I’m always tired.” There were departments that were busier, but Nat thought that her department was still fairly busy in its own respect.
“Yes, you guys tend to need to go to Artifact Injury, since apparently a broom counts as an artifact.” Nat said with a smirk. “If you do want to visit…That would be nice, I think.” The Ravenclaw said. “As long as you’re not visiting because you’re injured, of course.” Nat didn’t know if this meant she was friend with the other woman now, but this was a step in the right direction. James would be proud of her for trying to make new friends, at least.

Apparently Natalia didn't want to talk about some of the things she'd seen, which made sense. She probably saw some pretty nasty things working in St. Mungo's, so Ev decided to let it go. She smiled and shrugged when Natalia said that she could tell her about it later. She probably wouldn't, but it was a nice thought. "Alright," Ev agreed quietly. "Do you normally deal with poisonings that happen on purpose or by accident?" Of course, accidental poisonings normally wouldn't happen between people, that normally took place outside in nature, right? When people weren't paying attention to what they were doing and where they were going.
Ev laughed, "Yeah. I haven't been there yet, but I have been told that that is the place to go," she answered easily. Normally the healers on hand took care of things enough that players didn't have to go to the hospital, which was something Ev appreciated. She didn't want to have to deal with the stress and publicity and boredom that would happen when stuck inside a hospital. "Sure, I'll come visit you some time," Ev agreed easily, "but I'd better not be injured. That would make it hard to play." And Ev loved playing. She disliked anything that came between her and Quidditch. At least, almost anything. Rocco was fine. Dustin was fine. Her family. But not much else.

Nat was glad that Evelyn didn’t push any more for the details of her work at the hospital, moving instead to a question that was interesting, but less invasive. “A mix of both.” Nat said, bobbling her head a little in a nod. “I would say about ninety percent are accidental, but there are a few purposeful ones, too.” In the latter cases, normally an Auror came to take a report, and then someone was sent to Azakaban for a spell for attempted murder.
Nat smiled when Evelyn said that St. Mungo’s was the place to go. It was the only place to go, really. Natalia shivered a little, and then paused. “Can we go inside?” She asked, suddenly realizing that her fingers were numb and her teeth were chattering. That was what you got for waiting outside in the cold because you accidentally bumped into somebody else. “I need to start actually looking for gifts, anyways.” Natalia said, a puff of steam coming out from between her lips when she let out a little laugh. That was what she had come to the Alley in the first place, so it seemed silly to wait outside when they could just as well wander around a store together in the warmth while Nat did the shopping she needed to do.

"Do you have to report it when they're not accidental?" Ev asked curiously, though how did you really tell? Maybe sometimes it was blatantly obvious, but unless someone could tell you whether or not they thought it was on purpose, how were you supposed to figure out who poisoned it? Ev shook her head from her sudden barrage of questions. It probably wasn't a good idea ot spring all of them on her new friend. She'd scare her away for sure.
Ev was surprised when Nat asked if she wanted to go inside. Wait, so she wanted to prolong the conversation? Most people that talked with Ev got tired of her after a few minutes and looked for excuses to leave, but this girl wanted to talk with her. Or walk around with her. Evelyn nodded, "Sure, that's just fine. Is there a specific store you wanted to try for your gifts?" She asked. Ev wasn't in a rush, so she decided she'd just tag along with Natalia for a while.

“Everything is recorded no matter what.” Nat explained. “But I think that they only investigate accidental poisonings if they have reason to believe it’s not an accident. Like if a person is particularly rich or famous, or if they recently did something that people would hold grudges for.” Nat paused. “Aurors, mostly, or hit wizards and witches, we investigate no matter what. But sometimes they get pushed to the back of the line since there’s so many other things that law enforcement officials are needed for, and wasting resources on something that was most likely an accident isn’t something anyone wants.” Natalia couldn’t be entirely sure of the ins and outs of that process, because she wasn’t actually a part of it, but from the outside, that was what looked like happened.
The Ravenclaw shook her head when her former housemate asked if there was a specific store she wanted to go to. “I have no idea what I want to get any of my family, so I’m hoping if I go inside, something will speak to me.” Which was probably a naïve hope, but Nat wanted to get everyone something amazing for her first Christmas as a Longbottom.

Ev smiled, fascinated as she heard Natalia's explanation. She loved learning about things like this, how organizations worked and such. The fact that she just met someone who knew all about something that she didn't know at all was great for her. "That's so interesting," Evelyn commented when she was done explaining it all. "Sorry, I like finding out how things work," she explained, hoping that Nat didn't mind that she was asking so many questions.
Evelyn laughed. She would have that kind of a problem, except she knew exactly what her parents liked. Books. About anything. So that is what she got them, unless something else really stuck out to her. Still, she knew that they loved learning so it was never really hard. "Well I'll see what I can do to help, though that probably won't be much. Which one do you want to try first?" She asked. She didn't know Natalia's family or else she might try and choose a store that could be helpful.

Natalia nodded when Evelyn said that she liked finding out how things worked. It was definitely a Ravenclaw trait, and if Nat had been a bolder person, she probably would have nosed deeper into how everything worked with the Aurors and the reporting of the poisonings. Well, if she was bolder and she actually believed that the Aurors would think that her intentions were pure, and not that she was planning on poisoning someone. Her last name was still a scourge that Natalia couldn’t escape. Unless she changed it, but she and Andy had already discussed that at length, and Natalia was hoping that there wouldn’t be a reason to change her name to Longbottom.
“I guess I should probably start with Neville.” Natalia said when Evelyn asked which store she wanted to try first. “He likes Herbology, so I guess we can go to the apothecary and see if they have anything interesting?” Most of the apothecary was potions-related, but there was some Herbology mixed in there, too, if you knew where to look.

Evelyn nodded and started walking toward the apothecary when Natalia suggested it. "Herbology, huh?" She muttered as she walked into the store with Natalia. This was good. She was helping someone she'd just met find presents for her family that Ev didn't know. It wasn't completely strange, was it? Either way, she wanted to do what she could to help her new friend. "Do you know what he has already or maybe what type of plants interest him? Or is it just anything Herbology related?" She asked curiously as she walked around in the store, looking for something that might be useful. "Or maybe he would like a book about Herbology?" She spoke out loud, not really thinking of any other ideas, but glancing around in the apothecary.

Natalia nodded when Evelyn repeated that Neville liked Herbology. Maybe the other girl hadn’t had Neville as the Herbology professor, and that was why she didn’t know about it? Or maybe it still hadn’t clicked that the Neville that was Natalia’s Neville was the same Neville. “He already has tons of plants. Anything you could get anywhere, he probably already has.” At least anything useful, and Nat wasn’t sure Neville would appreciate some of his precious greenhouse space being taken up by something that was purely decorative. “He likes other Herbology related stuff, though, so a book would be good.” As long as he didn’t already have it, Natalia thought glumly. “Maybe I could get him a new pair of gardening gloves?” At least that way Nat would know her gift would be useful eventually.

Evelyn smiled ruefully at the girl in front of her. "Well that makes it difficult," she said as she looked at the shelves. That was the hard thing about shopping for people who had one passion. They generally already had everything to do with their obsession. That's why shopping for her parents was hard too. Ev normally spent all year brainstorming and double checking to make sure her parents didn't already have what she was going to give them. She shrugged, "The hard thing about a book would be that he might already have it? Unless you found a really old, obscure one." She looked up from her search when Natalia mentioned gardening gloves. "That could work. You could get him gardening tools in general too. They normally wear out after a while so even if he has them now, he'll need more someday." Probably. If he liked Herbology that much, at least.

Neville’s penchant for plants really did make things difficult. It sounded like finding a gift for him would be a piece of cake since he had such an obvious area of interest, but when it came down to buying the gift for real, there weren’t as many choices as there first appeared to be. Natalia nodded when Evelyn said that the problem with a book would be that Neville would probably already have it. Even if he didn’t, the Hogwarts library also had quite a large collection, including some rarer books. “I don’t have the budget to go hunting for rare books at the moment, I’m afraid.” She was living on a budget for the first time in her life, which was strange after a life of pomp and glamor, but Natalia was happier now than she ever had been with unlimited material goods, so she didn’t particularly care about that. “Gloves might be more personal, though. Unless I got something engraved on the handles of the gardening tools?” Even then, the tools were supposed to be for use, not for decoration, and the engraving would wear away or get caked with dirt, which made it an unappealing idea.

Ev nodded when Natalia said she didn't have the budget to look for rare books. "Or the time?" She suggested, making it more a question than anything else. At least, Evelyn didn't have lots of time to go out and search for rare herbology books. Not that she was busy or anything, but looking for something rare took a lot of dedication and she wasn't feeling too dedicated at the moment. Natalia seemed to be leaning towards the gloves, which was fine. Ev was just giving suggestions to try and be helpful. "Well then, which kinds of gloves would you be looking at?" She asked, moving more towards that area of the room. She gave a small smile. "I'm not sure how useful it would be to engrave gardening tools. If they got put to use like they should be, you wouldn't be able to see the engraving after a bit." Probably after a few minutes, but Evelyn didn't want to shoot down Natalia's idea entirely. This was her gift. Ev was just trying to be helpful.

Nat nodded when Evelyn asked if she had the time to look for rare books. If she really wanted to, she probably could find the time, but it would mean less time with her friends and family, which sort of defeated the whole purpose of the Christmas season. When Evelyn asked what kind of gloves she was looking at, Natalia’s eyes widened. “…Gardening gloves?” She asked. Was there more than one kind of gardening glove? Or was Evelyn just checking to make sure that she wasn’t looking for gloves of the keeping hands warm variety? If there was more than one type of gardening glove, Natalia was going to give up. She’d get Neville a snow globe or something. At least Evelyn saw the same problem with the engraving gardening tools as Nat did. “Maybe I could charm them or something to be permanent?” She mused. If she put a repulsion charm on the handle, it could keep dirt out of the crevices. That would make it more personal, too, but Nat wasn’t sure if it would affect the function negatively.

Evelyn laughed when Natalia looked at her with a confused expression on her face, seeming to ask Ev if she was talking about Gardening gloves. "Well yes, but I was talking about thickness. I know they have some thin ones, or dragon hide ones. I was just wondering if you were thinking about a particular one that might fit his needs more." Did that make any sense? Ev had no idea if Natalia had any idea what kinds of gloves Neville would need, she was just trying to be helpful. Maybe she was actually making things more difficult? She nodded when Natalia talked about charming the tools. "That could work. And it would put a more personal touch to the gift." Ev paused. "Not that the gloves don't have a personal touch!" She put a hand on her forehead, annoyed that she'd messed up. "Sorry, I think he would appreciate either gift. They both obviously show that you're thinking about him and something he would like." She said after a short while of getting her thoughts together so she could say something decent this time.
