@scorp detention sucked. he wasn't currently in detention but his girlfriend was, which meant he was alone. he was currently flopped over the back of the couch, his legs dangling over the back of it and his head was lolling off the edge. the cold fireplace was interesting from the upside down view he had of it right now, although he knew he'd have to sit up soon, the blood rushing to his head wasn't all that pleasant and it was starting to get annoying but he figured he'd give it a little while longer. he liked being upside down, something that probably surprised a few people. he sighed and taped his fingers on his chest as he thought about what he could do. he could look at his homework for the day but it seemed a bit redunant in that very moment. it wasn't of course, he had to do it at some time but he didn't feel like it in that very moment. he felt bad that dusti was in detention and he wasn't. all because they had spent a few minutes in a closet only for them to be caught by none other than astoria malfoy. he'd known her for the last seven years and he had a feeling that had had something to do with why he had only received a parent/teacher meeting, which was yet to happen, as punishment while dusti was stuck doing some menial task. he glanced to the side of him and his eyes caught the cushions that he had cast aside earlier when he had flopped down. he shifted slightly and lifted his hand, figuring he could practice some of the magic he had been working on for the better part of a year. he concentrated, cast the spell in his head and couldn't help but grin when the cushions all flew into the air and started flying in a circle above his head.

@al The castle was quiet today. That was nice. That also meant that people were up to no good, and seeing as he was finishing up prefect rounds without finding any rule breakers, that meant they were being smart for once. Scorpius hated when they outsmarted him. He knew of all the good places too, half from personal experience and half from finding others there. The other outcome was that people were actually being decent little students for once. He didn’t like to think he was cynical, but there was no way that was happening.
Returning to the common room, Scorpius popped the door open and entered. It was just as quiet in here as it had been out in the halls. Eerily almost. Strolling across the room, he caught what looked like another person out of the corner of his eye. He was going to leave them alone, until couch cushions came flying from every which way. Yelling slightly at first in shock, he quickly realized that the cushions were rotating in a circle above the couch. Quite an interesting feat that was. Scorpius cleared the distance to the couch and was met Albus dangling his head off the couch, spinning cushions around his head. “Should have figured it was you.” He grinned. Making his way over to one of the chairs, he had to deflect on of the cushions that made it a little further out of the circle than the rest. “That’s not the Al I know, looking all depressed. What’s up?”

@scorp “Should have figured it was you.” al shifted his gaze from the cushions to the familiar voice as it seemed to move around him and he spotted the familiar blonde hair ducking one of the cushions to sit in the chair across from him. he grinned slightly and shrugged his shoulders. "guess you should have" he said with a sudden smirk as he thought of a way to relieve his boredom for just a moment. he waved his hand once and suddenly all of the cushions flew at scorp. not waiting to see if they hit him, al reached his hand behind him and braced himself against it as he rolled off the couch to sit on the floor with his back resting against the couch and his legs stretched out in front of him. “That’s not the Al I know, looking all depressed. What’s up?” did he go into details? he had told scorp all about what had happened in scotland, with him and dusti getting stranded on the knight bus because they didn't see their stop ... because of reasons. though he wasn't all that keen to experience the floor of a bus anytime soon. not that he was going to voice that out loud. "your mom currently has my girlfriend tied up with a detention" he said with a slight roll of his eyes. he didn't see the problem if he was being honest. him and dusti were both of age, they were adults and they had been behind closed doors. still, he hadn't argued with astoria. she had put up with him for seven years and he was rather fond of scorps mother. "what're you up too?"

@al Back turned to Al, Scorpius attempted to sit down in the chair he was going for. Turning to take a seat, he saw the cushions come flying at him. Sneaky. Not able to get his wand out in time, Scorp took the full brunt of the attack, only managing to cover his face with his arms. They were rather heavy cushions too, sustainable against the Slytherin shenanigans that went on all the time. One of the cushions clipped his leg, throwing his balance off. Luckily the chair was still behind him and he took this as an opportunity to finally sit down. Finally removing his arms from his face, he saw that Albus had changed positions to the floor.
Scorpius crossed his legs, leaning back in the chair as he listened to Al’s grievances. If the Ministry position ever fell through, he could probably be a pretty decent muggle therapist. Shock was one way to put his expression as Albus explained that Dusti was in detention with his own mother. That sounded…interesting. “Merlin’s beard, what did she do to get that?” Scorpius had refused to take his mother’s class for obvious reasons, so he wasn’t exactly sure what she was like as a professor. It did mean that he had to be slightly more conscious of some of the things he did while at school though. “Me? Trying not to die of boredom. Nothing interesting happened while doing rounds today.”

@scorp “Merlin’s beard, what did she do to get that?” al couldn't help the smirk that crossed onto his face as he thought about exactly what had caused dusti to be serving detention at that moment. he felt bad that he wasn't in detention but he was going to have to suffer through a parental meeting with astoria, that was if his parents showed up. he shook his head slightly and rubbed his hand over his face. "your mum caught us in one of the broom closets near the dorms ..." he trailed off, figuring scorp would figure out where it was leading and wouldn't make al spell it out. “Me? Trying not to die of boredom. Nothing interesting happened while doing rounds today.” boredom seemed to be something that was going around that afternoon. he was bored while thinking about not spending time with dusti. "well you're still alive at least" he said almost dryly as he moved to stand up and he cracked his back and stretched his arms above his head. "come on." he said as he started walking around the couch. "lets find something to do so we can keep each other from dying of boredom."

@al The look that came across Al’s face accompanied by his statement about Astoria Malfoy catching them in a broom closet was enough to raise Scorpius’s eyebrows. A small chuckle escaped from his mouth but he quickly cut it off to take on a more serious tone. “I guess mum doesn’t give you and Dusti her blessing. Better find a new girl Al. Sorry.” Another laugh erupted from him as he leaned back into the chair. What a funny situation to befall him. He couldn’t even imagine having his mother catch him in a broom closet with a girl, let alone his best friend’s mum. That was definitely going on top of the piles of stories he had about Albus Potter while in school. Playful blackmail is what Scorpius liked to call it. Always good for banter later on. “Surprised you only got away with a slap on the wrist though. Why not detention for both of you? Or none at all? Harmless snogging after all…right?”
Scorpius contemplated the comment about being alive still. He was physically alive, unscathed, healthy, and in shape. Emotionally though? Not so much. Things in that department could be slightly better. Slightly was kind of an understatement; they could be leagues better. During this time Albus had stood back up and was moving around a bit. It took Scorpius a few seconds to notice this, but he quickly followed his friend and stood up as well. “Agreed. What’d you have in mind?”

@scorp “I guess mum doesn’t give you and Dusti her blessing. Better find a new girl Al. Sorry.” he rolled his eyes and laughed right along with scorpius. "you just worry about what she's going to think when you finally settle on a girl" he said with a smirk as he got up from his spot on the floor. “Surprised you only got away with a slap on the wrist though. Why not detention for both of you? Or none at all? Harmless snogging after all…right?” he smirked and shrugged his shoulders. "well it was more than snogging .." he said as he ran a hand through his hair. he wasn't too sure why he'd gotten away with it when dusti hadn't, though he figured it had something to do with their parental situation. maybe she knew dusti's parents would take the news a lot worse than al's would. they at least wouldn't harm him in any way, the flints? he wasn't too sure.
"i didn't get just a slap on the wrist. she wants to talk to my parents about it" he said with a sigh and he rested his hands on the back of his neck. he could only imagine how that was going to go. “Agreed. What’d you have in mind?” he didn't really have anything in mind. just that he didn't really want to spend the next few hours sitting in the common room watching the world go by. "i'm open to ideas" he said as he walked toward the door of the common room with scorpius. "we could always do some drills? my skills are getting rusty." even though he wasn't on the quidditch team this year he wanted to keep his flying skills up to par with what they had been when he had been on the team, after all flying was going to be a part of his future no matter what job he took.

@al Al’s comment about him settling on a girl hit a little too close to home, whether his friend realized it or not. Scorpius had settled on a girl, and he went and bollocksed that up. Truth be told, he had a feeling things would work out in the end. He just didn’t want to get his hopes up too early in case it didn’t end up the way he thought it would. Hopefully giving Rose enough time would get them through whatever this was.
Scorpius snickered as Al said it was more than snogging. “That’s a little awkward mate. Getting caught with your pants down, yeah?” He continued laughing as he also stood up from his position in the chair. Al continued talking as he did so, explaining that his lovely mother was going to be having a chat with the Potter parents. “Ouch. In all honesty though, you’re both adults. If it didn’t happen at school, it would have been somewhere else. Right?” The question was rhetorical, seeing as Scorpius was positive on that one. He’d seen enough patrolling the halls at night, so he knew that there was no stopping the inevitable from happening. School kids were going to be school kids one way or another, and at the end of the day they would all lose their innocence at some point in a similar manner.
Quidditch drills. That sounded fun. It had been a while since he had been on a broom, so he understood Al’s reasoning behind being a little rusty. “Works for me. Your broom locked up at the pitch or in the dorm room? I think mine is down there already…” He couldn’t recall where it had been left. As far as he knew, his mother might have had it in her quarters. Things had been moved around a lot when he returned for school, so the possibilities were endless.

@scorp “That’s a little awkward mate. Getting caught with your pants down, yeah?” he laughed and shook his head, almost shuddering his shoulders. "my pants were actually up when we got caught." he pointed out and looked away from his friend. "the awkward part was that to know what we were doing .. she'd have had to have been listening." he said as he pulled a face. she had known they had been doing more than making out and since making out didn't generally, because sometimes it did, didn't lead to as much noise as taking things further, she had had to have been standing there longer than she had let on to them. “Ouch. In all honesty though, you’re both adults. If it didn’t happen at school, it would have been somewhere else. Right?” al just nodded his head once.
he did't need to answer that and he doubted scorp would actually want to know it had already happened. al wasn't one to brag to his friends about that, he knew some people in the school did but he didn't. nor did scorp. well not to al at least but that might have something to do with the fact ondina was al's cousin and they hated each other. “Works for me. Your broom locked up at the pitch or in the dorm room? I think mine is down there already…” his was locked up in his room but he didn't feel like going to get it. "mine is in our dorm but i'll just use a school broom. got to learn to fly with anything right?" he said with a grin as he left the common room with scorpius. "even a slow old school broom."

@al He wasn’t leaving anything up to the imagination was he? Scorpius could feel his jaw drop as Al continued on about how his mum had to have been there for a while to figure it all out. He wished he could tell his friend that his mother didn’t have a habit of that, but she kind of did. It was always in the most innocent way possible, at least in his opinion, but it seemed a lot had changed since she started teaching. “I’m sure she was. Probably trying to figure out what to do with the two of you.” Or coming up with the best quip possible to embarrass them. He figured there would have been some kind of disappointment towards students in her own house. Scorpius wouldn’t know about that obviously, since he actively avoided having to talk to her when it came to breaking rules. Not everyone had the honor of having an adult at Hogwarts that was a professor, head of your house, and even your mother. The only other exception to that, as far as he knew, would be the Longbottoms.
The nod said it all. Scorpius didn’t want to pry too much into Al’s personal life; that wasn’t the type of person he was. The fact that his mother caught them though? That was still hilarious. The best part was if he and Al ran into her together. His mum would know exactly what he would be thinking about too, the smug look more than likely giving it all away. “Good point.” Scorpius agreed about the school brooms. “Wonder if they’ll have any of those Nimbus 2000s still. Those are practically antiques these days.” He recalled his father telling him stories of the breakthroughs in broom tech while he was in school, and having a Nimbus 2001. Apparently it was supposed to be better than the 2000, but his father had other things to say about it. “So school brooms then? I’m ready when you are.”
[OOC: want to just time jump to the pitch?]

@scorp -- timey wimey wibbly wobbly jumpy stuff-- planting his feet on the ground, al swung his leg off the broom and stood it up next to him and leaned on it slightly. he and scorp had just spent the better part of the afternoon running random drills and different types of flying. it had been fun, nice to get minds off what was happening and while he felt a strong stab of guilt that he was out enjoying the afternoon and dusti was stuck inside with astoria malfoy, he knew there was nothing he could do. he didn't know why she had chosen to give dusti a more harsh punishment but he hadn't argued the point. he felt he should have now but he figured he'd find out what she really had in mind when he met up with the three of them. he pushed some hair off his face, stuck there by the light sheen of sweat he had worked up doing the drills and he dropped his broom, letting himself flop back against the grass and he groaned a little. "it was never this tiring when i was on the quidditch team." he said with a grin as he crossed his feet together, tapping the souls of his sneakers together and he rested his hands under his head. "pull up some grass." he said to scorp as he lifted his head slightly to look at his friend.

@al One last loop around the pitch and Scorpius was on the ground next to Al in a matter of seconds. He had really needed that to get his mind off things. Things that he hadn’t realized were there, but lately they had always been present no matter what he was doing. The feeling of the wind whipping through his hair was comforting though, as odd as it seemed, and the concentration that drills took made it almost an instant cure. Flipping his broom up, he observed it silently for a second. Certainly wasn’t the best broom in the world, but not the worst either. Unfortunately his broom was locked up somewhere inaccessible at this very moment. The school apparently didn’t have any Nimbus 2000s anymore either, like he had hoped, but whatever this thing was it still did the job.
“Agreed.” Scorpius responded to Al’s comment about being tired. He hadn’t noticed it while they were zooming around, but the amount of sheer force and energy it took to run those drills was finally starting to take effect. Being out of shape wasn’t exactly fun. Tossing his broom to the side, Scorpius sat don’t, leaning back at first and staring up into the sky. While it was only late afternoon, the sky was already starting to darken. Not much longer until dinner, and then he knew he was going to pass out in bed. That was the only way to do it after a workout like that. “You ever wished you stayed on?” Scorp asked, eyes not breaking from the sky. “I don’t. I think I like being able to fly whenever I want and not be held down by the practice schedule.”

@scorp “You ever wished you stayed on? al knew what scorp was talking about without having to clarify. the quidditch team. he missed the team but he didn't wish he'd stayed on. he was going to be busy enough this year trying to keep his grades up so he had the required marks for the auror training after he graduated. besides dusti had become the captain and taken up his old spot and he trusted her to take the team as far as they needed to go. “I don’t. I think I like being able to fly whenever I want and not be held down by the practice schedule.” he agreed. it was nice to be able to just fly. "no i don't. if i wasn't trying to become an auror maybe .. i just feel like that still has to be the most important .. quidditch is a back up." he said with a light laugh and he rested his hand behind his head and sighed slightly. in a few months things would change. they'd be different than the last six years had been. the last six years it had been friends and classes and fighting with his family and now it was all going to change again. he wasn't looking forward to that part. "you'll have to teach lyra to play .. keep up the tradition of the malfoys playing quidditch." he said as he turned his head to scorp to look at him.

@al Quidditch was a backup. Hearing Al say that instead of him was kind of relieving. While it had been fun the first few years, there were more important things now, exactly how Al had put it. They weren’t going to have Quidditch careers so there was no reason for them to try and struggle through school and finding time to practice as well. Scorpius wouldn’t have too much of a problem normally, but with the way things had been going with his personal life lately, having that extra time that Quidditch normally took up was kind of welcoming. This time it had been necessary for his sanity. “I don’t blame you.” Scorpius let his arms go, falling back onto the grass. The pitch was insanely soft when one wasn’t hurtling towards it at a death defying speed. In a way, this was a little nicer than having to worry about breaking every bone in his body.
Scorpius let out a laugh as Al suggested that he teach his sister how to play once she was old enough. He supposed it depended on what she ended up like by time that was possible. Scorpius definitely wasn’t the same as his father but had still managed to follow in his footsteps regardless. Surely his younger sister could do the same with a little persuasion. “It’d be good practice before I have kids of my own.” He shuddered at the mere mention of that. “That last thing can wait for a little longer though. No need to rush that.” Closing his eyes and taking a inhaling as much as he could, Scorpius held on for a few seconds before letting it all out in one deep exhale. Sitting back up, he reached over to grab the broom. “I think I’m going to head back up now. See you at dinner?”
[THE END]
