The wonderful thing about being a professor at Hogwarts was that Imogen got to see all of the fun that students got up to. The Yule Ball was just another fun detour from the otherwise humdrum pace of school. Imogen had thought about going home to spend Christmas with her family, but in the end, she decided her family wouldn't begrudge her a chance to dress up and look pretty. Imogen was busy sipping on a glass of punch and scanning the room for anyone she might recognize, which was turning out to be more difficult than she anticipated. Most of the people from the Ministry were much older than her, though she did recognize a few Aurors by sight if not by name. After about five minutes of this hovering and punch-sipping, Imogen finally spotted a face that she recognized, and had a name to go with. "Callisto!" She called, strolling across the dance floor towards the woman in question and hoping that her voice had been heard.

Callisto heard her name and looked up, seeing Imogen moving toward her. She smiled softly and waved, moving to meet her part way, "Im, hello," she greeted with a nod, reaching out to take Imogens hand and give it a squeeze if Im offered it. "It's good to see you. Please tell me you haven't seen Mina lately," she half joked. If Im had seen Mina that generally meant that Im was saving Mina from something, and Callisto wasn't in the mood to hear about more antics of her psychotic best friend/sister.

Callisto was in a good mood, Imogen thought with a smile as she greeted Mina’s sister, accepting her hand and squeezing it in return when Callisto offered hers. Maybe that was it, or maybe Imogen was just used to seeing Callisto in a bad mood, since they often only saw each other when Imogen was delivering Mina – most often drunk or extremely hungover – to her sister. At the question about the woman in question, Imogen chuckled and shook her head. “I haven’t seen her since I went to visit Flourish and Blotts a week or so back.” Imogen answered. “I have been worrying about her, though. Since I’m in the castle so much, I wonder if maybe I can’t help her as much as I should.”

"Lovely, lovely," Callisto muttered as Imogen spoke about seeing Mina at the bookstore. Then she spoke about being worried and Callisto sighed, lifting her hand to rub her fingertips lightly against her forehead, "and with me at work... well, she seems to be happy or something," she said. Then she lowered her hand, looking back up at Imogen and smiling slightly. "Enough about that. How are you? How is teaching? I'm glad so many people I know are working here. It makes all the... excitement so much more bearable," she said with a short chuckle. Really, friends weren't that big of a deal to her, but seeing familiar faces was actually a good pick me up and she couldn't deny that.

Imogen was a little taken aback when Callisto said that Mina seemed to be happy. Well, that was something new. Nice, but new. “I’m fine.” Imogen said with a shrug. There was nothing particularly exciting occurring at Hogwarts or in her personal life, apart from the time she had broken her wrist, and that hardly seemed noteworthy, since it was intentional. “Teaching is more interesting than I anticipated.” Mainly because some of the children were such…characters, Imogen supposed would be the best way to phrase it. “I enjoy it, but I still can’t seem to figure out where I fit in here.” She was the youngest professor, so it was harder for her to make personal connections with the rest of the staff, since most of them were married with kids, or at least seriously seeing someone. Imogen was just…there.

Im said she was fine, which didn't seem that convincing to Callisto. Or maybe rather, Im just didn't have much to share. Callisto was glad she liked teaching and that it was interesting, at least. She spoke about fitting in, or not fitting in, and Callisto nodded. That was a subject she knew all too well. She didn't fit in anywhere, really, she was sure of it, but she tried not to dwell on it. "Well, perhaps it's something that takes time. There are a lot of new professors, though. I mean back in the day Professors stayed until their dying day, but now so many are young and just starting. At least you have that in common," she suggested.

“When did you become so into talking to people, Callisto?” Imogen asked, raising an eyebrow. The older Wulfe sister had always seemed a bit less social than Mina was, so the fact that Callisto was encouraging her to make friends was…weird. Then again, maybe the other woman just wanted Imogen out of her hair, which would make a lot more sense to Imogen. She was going to consider Callisto’s proposition, though. “That might be the only thing.” Imogen said with a sad chuckle. “I mean, we all love teaching, but that hardly seems a firm enough foundation on which to build a friendship.” Imogen shrugged. “Maybe I need a hobby.”

"I talk when necessary," she answered. She almost said that she was talking to Imogen because she wanted to, but she didn't. She didn't admit to things like that. Frivolous things.
Imogen agreed that being new and young may be the only thing they had in common, her and her fellow teachers. Of course they all loved teaching, too, or at least liked it. "Hobbies are a good way to make friends, I hear," Callisto said, poker faced, not even realizing that it sounded a little pathetic coming from her mouth due to her really having no interactive hobbies... or friends.

“I’m glad that I count as a necessity.” Imogen agreed with a brilliant smile when Callisto said that she would talk when necessary. Perhaps Callisto counted talking at the Ball as being necessary, but in any case, Imogen was going to take any sort of compliment she could get.
Callisto said that hobbies were a good way to make friends, and Imogen snorted. “Maybe I should take up Mina’s hobby.” That was, drinking, partying, and otherwise letting loose. But that would be a bad idea, at least for keeping Mina alive. “One of the other professors sings.” Imogen said conversationally. “I might try taking that up.”

Im said she was glad she counted as a necessity, smiling brightly and Callisto couldn't help but smile back. "Good," she said quickly, to show that she was still participating in this conversation.
Callisto laughed one loud 'ha!' when Im suggested taking up Minas hobby, then she shook her head rapidly before Im mentioned singing. "I'm not much of a singer, but I respect those who can... can Staff Members join the school choir as a member?" she actually had no idea... but she thought they should be able to.

Callisto seemed to find the idea of Imogen taking up Mina’s hobby as ridiculous as Imogen herself did, and she smiled at Callisto’s short laugh. The other woman said she wasn’t much of a singer, and Imogen lifted her shoulder in a shrug. “Honestly, I’m not, either, but it seems like a fun way to fill the time, and get to know someone new.” She wasn’t sure if Callie was interested in making any new friends, but if she was, Imogen was going to be there. Callisto asked about adults singing in the school choir, and Imogen frowned. “I have no idea.” It hadn’t been something that she thought to ask, since she was still on the fence about singing at all, let alone performing.

Callisto nodded, "well, I hope you try it out. And look into that choir thing," she said, attempting to chuckle but it came out a little forced. "I'm a bit... tired, I guess. I should probably get checking on things," she said. Being social for a long time was hard to Callisto, especially when she didn't know what to say next. She didn't like being part of awkward silences. So, it was easier for her just to walk away. Even if it was from someone she liked. "I hope to see you soon. Come for dinner sometime," she offered.

Imogen was glad that Callisto seemed to approve of her choice to pursue singing as a hobby. She had never thought of herself as a performer, so having someone say that it sounded like a good idea, and they hoped that she succeeded, was oddly comforting. “Of course.” Imogen said when Callisto said she needed to get back on checking on things. “Wouldn’t want to keep you from your job.” Im smiled when Callisto said she should come for dinner sometime – maybe she could owl one of the Wulfe sisters to make that a reality. Imogen waved one last time, and then faded back into the crowd of people, off to find someone else to talk with.
