I think that might have been true a while ago, but now that so much time has passed, I think that me talking about it anymore would just be reopening old wounds. And I’ve got people that I can talk to if I ever need to – they’re just not my family.
Well, keeping your options open is a good thing, and finding something that fits who you are as a person is a good thing, too. Part of the reason I chose my first job was because I got to do it with my best friend, but then that kind of went sour. I’m glad that you have people giving you suggestions, though. Good to hear that Ranger’s still set on being an Auror. I was worried that after what happened to our parents, he wouldn’t want to do it anymore. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
Well I think having people that you feel comfortable talking about it with is the more important thing. What's hard is when you feel like you have to bottle things in because you don't have anyone to talk about it with.
Thanks! I think it's a good idea to wait to make a decision until I find something that suits me. It's interesting though, when practically everyone around me knows exactly what they want to do and I'm still in limbo. It's a good thing I don't care what others think. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ranger is still planning on that. We haven't talked about it in a while though. I think people get tired of asking me what I'm going to do because I don't have an answer so it's harder to talk about it. I don't mind though.

Will you take a gap year if you can’t find something, then? I know a lot of people do, so I’m just curious – not judging you either way. I’m sure there are plenty of other people still in limbo, too, but sometimes they don’t like to admit that. It’s easier for them to give one plan that they might end up doing than explain that they’re not sure. People get tired of asking me about my work, too, since I can’t say anything about my Ministry job other than that I can’t say anything. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
That's what I've been planning on. My sister doesn't really approve, she says that I need to be cautious with it because it can be expensive. I'm not really the cautious type, so I'll probably just go for it as best I can. Maybe there are others and I'm just the only one that openly admits it. Either way, I haven't run into anyone who has told me they don't know what they're doing. I guess it's not that big of a deal. It just feels like one. Are you an Unspeakable then, since you can't talk about your work? If you're something else, I'm sorry, that was just the first thing that popped into my mind. I expect it would be hard to continually be explaining that you can't explain what you do. That's one of the reasons I don't want to be an Unspeakable ... adding on to the fact that I don't really want to work in the ministry. That would feel like working under my sister and while I love her, I don't want to do that.

Your sister is the Minister of Magic, so I would be inclined to listen to her above most. I agree that it can be really expensive, but if your parents are willing to support you it might be less so. Most people don’t want to admit that they don’t have a clue what they’re doing, so I think you’re onto something there. Yes, I’m an Unspeakable. I doubt any other job is as secretive as mine is, so it was a good instinct. It’s kind of nice not to have to talk about work when I’m at home, or when I’m with friends. It can get more frustrating when people continue to talk about work anyways when I can’t participate, but I’m fine with it, for the most part. I understand not wanting to work under the Ministry. I didn’t want to become an Auror for the same reason. Well, that, and I’m not well suited for that kind of work. I don’t like adventure that much – I just like to think. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
I'm sure my parents would help me if I asked them to. I don't know if I want to do that though. Maybe I'll find a small job somewhere that doesn't require a lot of training so I can get some money and then travel around and explore things. Ha ha! I knew I guessed right! Don't worry, I won't try and ask you questions about it. And I don't have a job, so you don't have to feel left out while I talk about that either. Hmm ... I like adventure. But that's my personality. I'm not good at being patient for things or waiting around for anything. When I realize what I want I go after it. And ... quite often I'm looking for some type of adventure. I tend to go on a lot of adventures with my cousin Lily Potter. We have fun together. What kinds of things do you like to think about? If you don't mind me asking, that is?

There are some jobs that will pay you to travel, you know. My older brother was a Cursebreaker for a while, and they paid him to go to all sorts of places. Granted, he was working most of the time, but he got to see more of the world than I could have ever hoped to see. Maybe if you want adventure, you could be a bounty hunter of some sort? They only go after the most dangerous criminals, and they seem to get a kick out of the adrenaline. Don’t tell your parents I was the one who suggested that, though. It’s a dangerous game to play, bounty hunting. But you might enjoy it.
What I think about has changed a lot since my parents died. I used to think about knowing everything. I have an eidetic memory, so as soon as I see something, it sticks in my brain. I know it forever, pretty much. Now, I think about keeping my family safe, and making sure my brothers don’t ever have to feel like they need to do anything because of money, or because it’ll make me proud, or anything of the sort. I want to take care of them. So I guess that’s what I think about. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
Oooh I'm going to have to look into both of those ideas, they sound interesting! And definitely like things that would be something I'd be likely to do. Don't worry, I won't blame anything on you. I'm getting lots of ideas from lots of people. It's like the more people I tell that I don't know what to do, the more they suggest things! Which is good because it means that I have something specific to research instead of trying to come up with ideas on my own. So thank you for your ideas.
That makes a lot of sense. I think a lot about my family as well, but not in the same way. I worry a lot for Vic. I'm nervous that something will happen to her because she's the Minister of Magic. But I try not to let my worry show. For her or others. I think wanting to take care of your family is honorable.

From what I’ve heard, Cursbreaking requires more magical expertise, whereas bounty hunting just requires a lot of gall. I’d assume since you’re a Ravenclaw you’re doing well enough in your classes, but if you ever happen not to do well in Charms or something, bounty hunting might be the way to go. Trust me, people who ask me questions don’t ever need to research, since I’ve practically got an encyclopedia in my head.
Minister of Magic is a dangerous job, but I think that if anyone was going to do anything to her, it would have been done by now. That’s just the way I see it, though. I’m not sure if it’s honorable if I sometimes resent them for having to be this way. I remember the days when all I had to do was think and learn and explore, and I miss them. And I wonder if things could have been different. But it’s too late now. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
You are right; I do a lot with my classes and I do fairly well with all of it. But it's nice to know my options. I like being able to see the differences in choices and try to figure out what will fit the best for me. I really like using magic though so maybe Cursebreaking would be more my area. Is bounty hunting just for wizards or is it something muggles do too?
Thanks. I'll try to keep that in mind when I worry about Vic. Maybe your point of view will help me keep a calm head. I think it's natural to feel resentful. No one was planning on that happening, so it completely changed all of your lives in a way that is hard to recover from. I don't think it's wrong to miss the way things used to be; I'm sure I would do the same

Muggles have bounty hunting, too. As long as there are people who are trying to escape the law and other people with deep pockets who want to find them, there will be bounty hunting. As far as I know, it’s not typical for witches and wizards to use magic while bounty hunting, just because there’s a lot of ways to accidentally violate the Statue of Secrecy, but I never really researched it fully.
It might be natural to be resentful, but that doesn’t mean it’s right, or that I should try to stop it. It’s just…frustrating, I suppose, to know that I should be above this but still not be able to make myself be. Thank you for listening, even though it’s not really your job. @dominique

Dear Kegan,
Hmm ... then I'll really have to see how I feel about that. I love using magic and think I would rather a job where I can use it, but I'll have to look into it. See what the parameters are on it and such. It probably won't be the only option I'm choosing between. I'm good at finding lots of things that interest me, if I take the time to look for them, that is.
Of course I'll listen! I may be impulsive and a bit random, and we may be pretty close to being strangers, but I love listening to people. If you ever want to talk to me about anything, don't feel bad. I can imagine how wanting to not be resentful could be hard as well. Sometimes I find that while others think I'm doing a great job, being critical of myself is something I can't get over.
