“I don’t think anyone does.” Dustin replied when Evelyn said she didn’t make a point of bringing up the things she couldn’t do to other people. In some ways, Dustin was sure that it was an ego thing. Dustin certainly didn’t like admitting that he didn’t know everything. And again, sometimes it just never came up in conversation. Maybe if they lived in a particularly icy country it would have come up earlier, but it seemed like ice was more of a nuisance than an opportunity in most cases.
Evelyn said that she hadn’t made any practice plans yet, and Dustin shrugged. “Well, you’re welcome to use the pond.” He told her. It was far from the lecture that he had been planning, because Evelyn said she hadn’t made plans yet and suggesting the pond as the venue would probably be better received than demanding she use it. Besides, it would let him see if she had been there, since the skate marks would show on the ice.

Evelyn smiled when Dustin said that he didn't think most people brought up things they couldn't do. "See? Then I'm like everyone else ... in that way, that is." Ev gave a wry smile. She knew, just as Dustin did, that she couldn't really say she was like everyone else. She was too logical for that and she knew that wasn't normal. Most people listened to intuition or their emotions, but she didn't. It was all about logic for her.
He offered the pond to her and Ev smiled, "Really? Well, I might come out here then," she said with a smile. She would probably ask Rocco to come here with her. At least if Rocco was there she wouldn't be alone. Besides, he was probably just as good at ice skating as Dustin was. Well, Dustin was probably a little better since he had a pond in the backyard. "Are you not going to be here?" she asked curiously, surprised he didn't tell her to come and grab him and come out to practice.

Dustin rolled his eyes when Evelyn said that she was like everyone else in that respect. “Evelyn Estrada, you are in no way, shape, or form like everyone else. And that’s why I like you.” It was boring to be friends with normal people.
Evelyn asked if he wasn’t going to be around, and Dustin shook his head. “Nope. I’m going on a vacation to France.” Dustin decided to leave what the purpose of the vacation was and who he was going with vague – it was easier for him to lie to Ev when it was a lie of omission. With any luck, she would just assume that he was going with his parents as a nice family vacation without all of his sisters running around underfoot. “So you have free reign. I trust you won’t do anything stupid.” Stupid and Evelyn never belonged in the same sentence, unless the words ‘is not’ were between them. Hopefully his parents didn’t make an appearance when Ev was skating, otherwise there would be a lot of awkward questions for him to answer about his vacation.

Evelyn couldn't help but laugh when Dustin told her in no uncertain terms that she wasn't like everyone else, which was why they were such good friends. "Well I'm glad you still want to be my friend despite how not normal I am," she teased with a wry grin.
Ev perked up a little when Dustin mentioned France. How did she not know he was going there? "Are you going to Paris or somewhere more in the country?" she asked curiously. France was one of the places her parents did take her on a vacation, because it was full of history and knowledge. They'd also been to Rome and other historically important places. So if Dustin wanted to know cool muggle places to visit, she could tell him ... not that she expected him to be too interested in that. She rolled her eyes when he said he trusted her not to do anything stupid. "Like what? It's not like your pond is going to melt between now and New Years," she responded sarcastically. Then she looked at the ice beneath her feet nervously as she continued to skate around with Dustin. "It wouldn't, right? How thick is this ice anyway?"

Dustin rolled his eyes when Evelyn said she was glad they were still friends despite how not normal she was. “It’s not despite the fact that you’re not normal. It’s because of it.” Dustin corrected. He didn’t want Evelyn to think that he was willing to overlook parts of her because it was easier to be her friend – he just honestly didn’t think that most of her flaws were flaws at all. And even if they were flaws, he had to accept those, not just overlook them.
“More in the country.” Dustin replied when Ev asked where in France he was going to be. “In the mountains, actually.” He said, elaborating even a little further to satisfy Evelyn’s curiosity. He wouldn’t be able to give her any more detail than that, unless she asked what mountain range he was going to be on. Dustin was confident that if she did ask that question, he’d be able to lie, because that wasn’t a real lie. Just an editing of details. Ev asked what kind of stupid things she could do on the pond, and Dustin shrugged. “You’re a Ravenclaw. You could probably think of more than me.” Evelyn was better at planning than Dustin, which wasn’t exactly difficult. When Ev asked how thick the ice was, Dustin shrugged again. “Couple inches, maybe a foot? It’ll be fine.” They wouldn’t be skating on it if it was any thinner than that.

Dustin was rolling his eyes and explaining himself a little bit and Ev smiled and laughed quietly. "Well that's a relief," she teased back, preferring to keep things light-hearted. Not that things generally got serious with Dustin. Both of them liked to tease the other, which was good. They just fit well as friends.
"Ahh," Ev said slowly when Dustin told her where he was going. He still kept it vague, but she decided that was probably on purpose. If he wanted to tell her something, he would and she wasn't going to push him to do anything. She laughed when he said she could think of things because she was a Ravenclaw. "Exactly Dustin! I'm a Ravenclaw, which means I tend to avoid doing stupid things." She grinned at him, shaking her head. She probably found that a lot more funny than it was meant to be. She looked back down on the ice. "Ok, then. That shouldn't be able to melt in the next few weeks so I should be good." Ev turned her attention back to her best friend. "You'll tell me when you get back, right?" Of course she'd find out eventually, but it was going to be weird not having him around. Sure, she'd probably find a way to be busy with Rocco ... but it would be different not seeing Dustin.

Evelyn made a noise at his announcement that he was going to be in the mountains, but didn’t press any further, which Dustin was glad for. Even if he could tweak a few details, it was probably better for his conscience if he avoided lying to her at all. “Well, to avoid doing stupid things, you have to know what the stupid things are.” Dustin reasoned. Normally when he did stupid things (which was often), he just did the first thing that popped into his head, so he couldn’t think of nearly as many dire situations as Evelyn could. At his appraisal of the ice thickness, Evelyn said that it shouldn’t be able to melt in the next few weeks, and Dustin smirked at her. “Unless it gets warm.” And honestly, it was Britain, so did it ever get warm? It would take some serious unseasonable heat to eat through all of the ice. “Test it beforehand anyway.” Dustin warned. He didn’t want Ev to accidentally plummet to an icy death because she failed to take proper safety precautions. “Yeah, I’ll tell you.” In all likelihood, he’d actually go to see Evelyn when he got back from the Alps, as long as he wasn’t too tired.

Evelyn grinned when Dustin said she needed to know what the stupid things were to avoid them. "Well then I guess I can't make any promises, but I'll try to make smart choices. Just for you," she teased. Honestly though she wasn't going to do anything that would put her safety in jeopardy. She made a face when Dustin pointed out that it would melt if it got warm. That was obvious. She rolled her eyes. "Yes sir, I'll test the ice, especially if it gets warm," which was highly unlikely, but Dustin knew that. He didn't need her to point it out first. She smiled when Dustin agreed to tell her when he got back and then started skating again. She was finally starting to feel more comfortable on the ice. Since Dustin was going to be gone for the next while, she was definitely going to practice. Maybe she'd be able to surprise him by how much she improved when he got back. Either way, they spent the next half hour skating before they got tired enough that they had to stop. Still, Ev enjoyed herself. She was glad that Dustin brought her here and taught her how to skate. ---the end--- @dustin
