Shay was forcing himself to be careful with his food – it would be awful if he accidentally slipped and ended up spilling his food everywhere, both because it would make someone else have to clean it up and because it would mean taking time away from when he got to talk with Dom. Shay led them to the little sitting area, sitting on one of the benches and gesturing for Dom to sit across from them. When the Ravenclaw began to question him, Shay sunk his teeth into one of his strawberries, giving him some time to formulate a response. He also was just really hungry again, probably because the smell of melted chocolate could make anyone hungry. When he was finished chewing, Shay gave Dom a tooth smile. “I h-have t-time f-for a l-lot b-because I’m n-not t-talking w-with everyone.” He said teasingly. He didn’t mind that Dominique always felt the need to be flitting around, but it just wasn’t Séamus’s favorite thing to do. He was an introvert, and she was an extrovert, and that was okay.

Dom sat across from Séamus and started eating a little bit of her fruit. Despite the fact that he performed the impervius charm to keep her dress clean, Dom was going to try and be as neat as possible. So far, she was doing a pretty good job at it too, which was surprising. Séamus had already taken a bite when she asked her question, so Dom ate a little more while she waited for him to answer. When he did, she couldn't help but laugh. "You're probably right," she agreed after a moment, pausing so she could think to herself. "But I'm okay with that. I like talking with everyone." Because it kept her from thinking. Not that she'd tell him that- or anyone, to be honest. Her social skills had always been good, but since Ethan's death last year, she definitely did more than she used to. "So are you enjoying yourself? Even though you're not talking with everyone," she teased him back, assuming he would know she was teasing. Most people figured she was teasing when she spoke with them.

Dom agreed that he was right when he said the reason he had time to do all of the things he did was because he didn’t talk to people. Shay had known that already, but he smiled pleasantly at Dom nonetheless, moving on to the next strawberry on his plate, which was much bigger than the one before. Séamus was beginning to wonder if he should have cast the Impervious Charm on his dress robes, too. He had been fine earlier, but he hadn’t been talking to someone earlier. Dom said that she liked talking to everyone, and Shay shrugged his shoulders. “I like not talking with everyone.” Once again, they were different, and once again, that was just fine. People being different made the world a more interesting place. Dom asked if he was enjoying himself and Shay shrugged his shoulders again. “It just feels like a normal night, but with more food.” Séamus hadn’t been spending time with anyone special, and he definitely hadn’t been dancing, so in some ways, this was just another night, with everyone else at a party that he was attending, but not really.

This was wonderful! Dom absolutely loved fondue, but rarely had the opportunity to have some. Besides, whenever she did get the chance, she also had to deal with her family making fun of her for how messy she was. And this time she wasn't! It was like a miracle! Maybe the charm Séamus performed made it so she wasn't messy too. No, she knew that wasn't true, but it was an interesting coincidence. Maybe she should try and take precautions more often and see if that helped prevent some of her more wild ideas. She laughed when he said he liked not talking with everyone. She already knew that. It was obvious the first time they met in the library. Still, she respected him for being his own person on his own. He didn't need people to validate him, which was cool. "So we're opposites, but that's just fine," Dom told him with a smile. She thought it was interesting, but didn't want him to think she was judging him. "Normal? With everyone dressed like their royalty and all the fancy decorations?" Dom winked to make sure he knew she was teasing once more. Then she shrugged, "I guess if you're not dancing or here with anyone it would feel pretty normal." She was glad it wasn't normal though. She was having too much fun.

Dominique reached the same conclusion that Shay had about the two of them being opposites. Maybe that was why he liked her so much – opposites attracted. And they also had more to offer each other than someone with the same perspective could. Séamus was reminded once again that he had thought about asking Dom to be his tutor, but now seemed a bad time to ask her for that. He doubted there was ever going to be a perfect time, but in the middle of a dance? Academics didn’t belong there. Dominique was skeptical of him saying that everything was normal when there were decorations and people dressed to the nines in every decoration. “D-decorations and d-dress r-robes d-don’t change the w-way things are, j-just the w-way they l-look.” Shay reasoned. Dom then realized that since he wasn’t dancing, it really wasn’t that different for him. “You d-don’t n-need a b-ball to d-dance, either.” He pointed out. People liked the excuse to dress up and dance, but, at least to Séamus, it seemed silly that they didn’t do it anyways. No one needed permission to do what they enjoyed.

Séamus argued that dressing up and decorations only changed the way things looked and Dom shrugged. He was right about that, but to her the decorations changed the atmosphere. She shrugged, "I get what you're saying, but it does change things, for me at least. I mean, I don't normally have the urge to walk into the Great Hall and start dancing with everyone, but with it looking like this, I do. So I think looks matter a bit." Dom laughed when he said they didn't need a ball to dance. "Don't I know it!" She agreed, "But most people feel self-conscious dancing unless a bunch of people are doing it too. Trust me, I try to get people to dance with me every one in a while. It doesn't normally work." Which she hated, but it was true. Most people were too self-conscious to do whatever they wanted no matter where they were. Dom wasn't one of those, but there were only a handful of people who did what they wanted with her around.

Shay raised his eyebrows when Dom said that she normally didn’t have the urge to dance in the Great Hall. He didn’t, either, but the decorations didn’t make that change at all. “M-maybe one d-day I c-can d-do that w-without the d-decorations.” Séamus said, attempting to joke. The stutter made it hard for a joke to come across, though, so Shay hoped Dom saw it as what it was, and not a come-on or anything. He was perfectly content just to have a friend in her, a friend who could help him study and show him a different way of looking at the world. Right after he suggested making her dance without decorations, Dom mentioned that she sometimes randomly asked people to dance, and they said no. Séamus would have said no because he didn’t know how to dance well, not because of being embarrassed. But, if in the future, Dom asked him to dance (randomly, that was, and not at the ball), maybe he would say yes.

Dom's eyebrows rose playfully when Séamus said that he might be able to dance without the decorations. She smirked at him, "Are you saying you might be able to dance with me or just in general?" She winked, to try and make sure he knew she was teasing. She didn't want to make him feel too uncomfortable around her. Séamus was a nice guy and she enjoyed his company. She took a bit of banana with the fondue and closed her eyes as she moaned a little. "This is so good!" Her eyes opened and focused on Séamus. "Thank you for bringing me here. I would have been sad if I heard that there was fondue and I missed it." Really though, she would have been disappointed, and then she would have looked for an excuse to have fondue. Not that she needed an excuse. If she really wanted it, she wouldn't mind finding it without one.

Dom had caught on to his meaning, and for a moment, Shay was tempted to deny what he said. However, he didn’t much like the stereotypes that Slytherins were duplicitous or deceitful, so he was going to own what he said. “M-maybe someday.” He answered. He wasn’t sure if that day would come soon, but Séamus wasn’t going to rule out ever dancing at all. Dom began to eat her fondue-covered fruit, and Shay hid a smile at the noise that she made when she ate the first piece. She was obviously enthusiastic about it, and it was…charming, Shay supposed, because they finally had something that they were both equally excited about, rather than one of them or the other finding joy in something. “You’re w-welcome.” Shay replied, uncovering his smile a little. “S-spread the l-love, r-right?” He asked. What was the point in having all of these cool things if they couldn’t be shared?

Dom grinned when he said maybe. That meant she could- more likely than not- make it happen! She had a talent for being able to convince people to do things, and maybe this conversation right now would help Séamus adjust himself to the idea that she wanted to dance with him. Then maybe when she invited him to at a later date, he'd agree. It wasn't a for sure thing, of course, but Dom was determined to act as though it was. "Yes, spread the love," she agreed, smiling in between bites. "The love of chocolate on all things! I swear, fondue is one of the best things ever created." She knew she was gushing about it, but didn't mind. Séamus seemed to like it also, so he probably wouldn't care.

Dom agreed that they ought to spread the love, and Shay chuckled when she said that they were spreading the love of chocolate on all things. He had more meant spreading love in general, but if she wanted to apply it to their specific situation, then he wasn’t going to complain. It still did work, after all. When Dom said that fondue was one of the best things ever created, Shay nearly choked on the piece of strawberry that he had been eating. “I w-wouldn’t g-go that f-far.” He said with a wry smile. “M-maybe j-just s-say ch-chocolate is one of the b-best things.” He suggested. Chocolate encompassed fondue, but also included many other things, like…well, chocolate!

Séamus seemed to think she was a little too enthusiastic about fondue, which was entertaining to Dom. She loved her fondue and chocolate and quite a few things, and she never tried to hide how much she liked them. Which was part of the reason why she always went from group to group instead of simply staying with one person. It was easier to not annoy people when she didn't stay for long periods of time. Which meant that her time with Séamus was probably coming to a close. She didn't want him to get tired of her. "I thought chocolate being a best thing went without saying," Dom answered with a laugh, eating the last of her fruit. "So doesn't that include fondue?"

Shay chuckled when Dom said that chocolate being the best went without saying. “B-better to b-be redundant th-than unclear.” Séamus told her. It was something that his mother had told him often when growing up, so he tended to repeat it a little too often. When Dom asked whether or not chocolate included fondue, Shay felt the need to begin to split hairs. “It includes ch-chocolate f-fondue.” The Slytherin said. “B-but n-not ch-cheese f-fondue.” He added, grinning teasingly at Dom. Personally, he wasn’t as big of a fan of the savory fondue, mostly because he wasn’t as big of a fan as savory things in general – at least when there was a choice to have sweets. It appeared that Dom had finished everything that she had grabbed, so Shay shoved the last of his fruit in his mouth, too, his cheeks pouching out like a chipmunks when he realized he had grabbed too much to chew all at once.

Dom laughed, nodding to show she understood what Séamus was saying, even though she didn't particularly agree with it. Dom had her own ways of making sure her opinion was known, without being redundant, but for someone who didn't particularly like talking, maybe that was easier for him. She giggled when he pointed out the how cheese fondue did not count in the chocolate category. "Fine, I guess you're right about that," she told him with a small smile. Then he somehow stuffed everything else into his mouth. Normally, Dom would tease anyone for doing something like that, but she had a feeling that might make it so Séamus didn't feel comfortable around her, so she somehow restrained herself. "You know, I should probably get back inside, see what my date's doing. I hope you enjoy the rest of your night," she said cheerfully, waving at Séamus as she turned and left.

Shay grinned at Dom when she said that he was right. He might not be good at book work, but he could do simple logic like that just fine, thank you very much. Séamus also liked to think that it didn’t take much intelligence to be funny – just the right attitude. Now that they were done eating, Dominique seemed a little fidgety, so Shay wasn’t much surprised when she announced that she ought to go back inside. Séamus’s mouth was still half-full when Dominique bid her adieu, and he tried to chew frantically to return the goodbye, but failed miserably. There were all manners of fruit juices dripping down his face, and Shay supposed it was probably better that Dom didn’t see him like that, but he was still a little disappointed he didn’t get to say goodbye.
