Irina smiled and silently thanked him for being okay with her tangent. "I don't mind talking about Quidditch; just sometimes it can get a little...heated? Shall we say? Especially in the Krum household," she said with a wry chuckle. Put Dan in the mix and it could become a full out verbal brawl. "My sisters both want to leave school early to play Quidditch. I try to tell them to stay and finish their educations but it goes in one ear and out the other," she told him, then shrugged. "I'm not their mother, I can't tell them what to do with their lives. But from what Niko's told me they're stopping looking at students under seventh year,, so I guess you're lucky," she said to him.
They were getting close to the tree tops now; Irina could feel the breeze more strongly from this altitude. "A healthy appetite for competition is never something to be apologetic for," she told him faux sternly, then smiled. "And what do you think of us Hogwarts folk?" she asked him, eyebrow raised.

Dastan smiled when Irina expressed her opinions about Quidditch. She was pretty spot on. "Most people get pretty defensive when it's about Quidditch," he agreed out loud. Maybe defensive wasn't the right word, but many people could argue about it pretty decently if they were of a mind to. He laughed when she told him that they weren't looking for people younger than seventh year. "You may not want to tell them, but I am pretty sure that foreign teams do not care whether you are in school or not." Just an interesting bit of information that she might want to be aware of, since he could tell that she was concerned for her sisters, whether she admitted it or not. "I'm glad," he commented when she said that he shouldn't be worried about being too competitive. Truly though, he was. She had no idea, but it was probably better that way. "I think you are all nice. Pretty welcoming. The longer I am here, the more I like it." He thought for a moment before adding, "But your school is confusing. I do not like that at all. What do you think of having foreigners here?"

Irina laughed. “Defensive is what my mother calls me when we argue Quidditch. I call it a deadlock; she wants me to play, I don’t want to play. Seven years, and just this year she finally seemed to get it through her head I wasn’t going to play for Gryffindor,” she said, still smiling at the thought. She had less negative thoughts about her mothers insistence on her playing Quidditch nowadays; she remembered near the end of term last year she had come out and climbed this very tree to clear her head after yet another letter from her discreetly suggesting to try out for the team. Strange, how events affected ones view of the world.
“I’m glad to hear you think we’re nice, some of the students fear there is a bias on them based on what house they are Sorted into, but over the years the prejudice against Slytherin house has fallen away, for the most part at least.” There were certainly students who fit the bias Salazar Slytherin had originally prided himself on having, but there were less and less every year. She even knew of a few Muggleborn Slytherins, and according to the history books that was a laughable idea for many centuries. “Well, seeing as one of the foreigners is my boyfriend, I like having you guys here,” she said, grinning mischievously. “I’m a big history nut though, so to learn more about your customs, languages and history of your schools is rather fascinating to me.” She climbed as high as she could go; standing up straight her head just barely poked out of the treetops. The view was spectacular as usual; Irina would never get over it.

Dastan smiled and nodded, "Well it is a good thing you did what you felt was best. Most people would give in to what their mother or father wanted. It shows ... strength of character." Dastan was pretty sure he said that right. At least, it sounded right and he was pretty good at English, so he figured he said it right. She started talking about how there were biases in between houses and Dastan shrugged, "I do not know about the biases, or I might believe them, but I think I prefer to not know." At least, it made things simpler when you didn't have some sort of preconceived notion about someone before you even really met them. He laughed when Irina mentioned her boyfriend being here. "Well good. And if you ever want to learn more about Beauxbatons, let me know." Dastan looked up at the sky and then groaned. It was time for him to get going. He told Gwen he would meet her a little bit before dinner. "I am sorry, but I have to postpone the rest of our competition. I forgot I am supposed to be meeting someone." Without another word, Dastan started climbing down, which was so much simpler than climbing up because he wasn't as cautious climbing down. It only took a few minutes and he was at the bottom of the tree. He looked up and waved up to Irina before turning and hurrying away. He didn't want to be late. ---the end--- Irina Rose Krum
