Well, there must be a history of photography, right? I know I've seen a lot of photos that are homages to other photos, and I find those particularly moving.
I wonder which Hogwarts house I'd be in. I was in Thunderbird at Ilvermorny, which is the house of the adventurers. I would think that would put me in Gryffindor, but I'm not sure I'm courageous so much as curious. Maybe I should ask Rory.
Yes, having a friend in that does seem like it would make things easier. And not wanting pity sounds good, too. People who only ever use their woes an excuse to be awful people annoy me greatly.
I looked through the photos you sent me - they're really stunning. I wasn't sure whether or not you wanted them back, so I've returned all but my favorite - I hope that's alright with you. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , Oh definitely. But not in school. Not even magical photos. I guess that’s the one problem with going to a school that focuses more on education than hobbies. There isn’t even a photography club…we have an art club though, which I’m in. It’s the closest I can get and the other members are nice to me so I can’t really complain. The few Gryffindors I know are quite adventurous, so maybe? Me too. Except I don’t like telling them that because that’s not how I am… Thank you! And that’s fine. I have extra copies and the developed negatives so if I ever need more, I can make them up in a second…or more like fifteen minutes, but it’s a simple process. Looking through the ones you returned though, I’m surprised you liked the one that you kept. It was more “raw” than the rest I guess.

Can’t you all make your own clubs if you want? Find a teacher who’s interested in photography and start a club! I would say it’s a résumé builder, but from what I’ve seen, wizards don’t really need résumés, so…You know what I mean. I’ll be on the lookout for any books that discuss the history of magical photography, if you’d be interested in reading that sort of thing, let me know.
I don’t know. I can be hotheaded, but I feel like I’d fit in better with Slytherins, just because I can be very, very focused on what I want and always getting it.
I don’t necessarily tell people that…But they do tend to see a lot less of me after I give up on them.
That’s good to know. I thought that the one that I kept felt…I guess the word “raw” is a good description, but it spoke to that little part of ourselves that we tend to keep hidden. The rest of the photos appealed to my brain and my eyes, but that one appealed to my heart, and I liked that. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , I actually don’t know. The art club is pretty small already, I doubt there would be that many more people interested in photography over art… Muggle photography is far more interesting, if you ask me. They don’t have the abilities that we have, so they make up for it with their technology. I guess that’s a little different than with books, which are the same across both. Not all the Slytherins are hotheaded though. I think there are more Gryffindors like that, but they’re more irresponsible than everyone else as well. I don’t usually get that response. Appealing to the heart, I mean. I think a lot of people know what looks good and how to comment on that, but not how to see the deeper meaning if there is one. A lot of my photos are just that, photos. Nothing more to them than that.

Perhaps your friends from the art club would join it, though, at least until you could find some people who were genuinely interested in photography? I’m just spit balling ideas, don’t feel pressured if you don’t want to.
Trust me, I know a thing or two about Muggle technology. It’s always been fascinating to me, but since magic messes with electricity and I’m not the most disciplined of magic users, I can’t really spend that much time around Muggle tech. You’d be surprised how different books are between the two – a lot of Muggle printers are more efficient than wizarding ones.
Eh, maybe I’m a little of both. It’s a moot point anyways.
I think that if you can’t look at something with your heart, then you shouldn’t bother looking at it at all. Maybe that’s a little harsh, but really…what’s the point in seeing something if you never let it speak to you beyond just the physical? I think that you’re good at finding the heart in things, especially when you take your age into account. It’s not a talent everyone has. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , Maybe they would join…I’m not really big on taking initiatives like that, so…yeah. I never thought about printing books before like that. Also never realized that it would probably be weird if you had a muggle publisher to do that for you. I tried to convince my parents to get me a computer so I could work on my digital photographs, but that was too much for them to comprehend. They understood that I could take pictures on certain cameras, but not that I could put them onto a different piece of technology. Someday they’ll understand. I hope. No, I agree. But I also think there are different forms of art. Some are meant to just be visual representations, while others have more meaning. I’m glad that at least most people understand when something is only visual. I think I have ‘heart’ because I watch and listen more than most. But that’s because of other things…

How are you ever going to achieve your dreams if you don’t start chasing them? Sitting around and waiting isn’t a way to live, Cordelia. This isn’t something you want to argue about with me.
If I had a Muggle publisher publish some of my books, then I’d be in trouble with MACUSA. Even though the books are marketed as fiction, I don’t think they’d be fond of too many Muggles poking their nose into magic, especially since once you realize that magic is real, you start to notice it everywhere. Have you ever tried going to a Muggle public library? They have computers for public use, and some of them even let you rent digital cameras. There’s plenty in London, but if that’s not where you live, I’m sure you could find one near you, too.
That is true – some art is only meant just to be a copy of a thing that already exists. Why, if I may ask, do you watch and listen so much? cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , That’s why I’m ahead on my charms studies, so I can be a healer in case photography doesn’t work. I still take magic for granted, even though I have hobbies of the non-magical kind. I went to one once. When I asked if I could do that, they said they didn’t have the right things on the computer for it. I don’t talk because I stutter, and that brings attention to me which always makes it worse.

Having a backup plan is not the same thing as chasing your dreams as far as you can. I wouldn’t be where I am today, writing-wise, if I hadn’t kept pushing myself to get better and asking people for advice and editing and everything else. Please, consider being a little more aggressive, just for this one thing.
I don’t think that I do, really. Spending the first eleven years of my life as Muggle kind of took care of that, and since my aunt and uncle are still a part of my life and they’re both Muggles, I have to keep in touch with that side of my life.
That’s a shame.
Ah, I see. I talk a mile a minute when I get excited, so I think that any conversation we have in person will be…interesting. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , I’ll look into it. You’re probably right, the other club members would most likely help me out if I wanted to start a photography club. That’s what muggleborn students say all the time too. Sometimes I wish I had that upbringing, or at least half of it. I feel like there are a lot of things I missed out on, that I have to do on my own to be able to get the full “muggle experience”. It’s fun either way though. I’m a good listener, and I have friends that like to talk a lot so I’m used to it. What made you want to write in the first place?

Good, good. Chase your dreams!
There are quite a few things that I think every wizard should do at least once in their life as a part of the full “Muggle experience”. You wouldn’t believe how few people know how to cook a meal without magic. There are also a lot of Muggle tourist attractions that don’t seem to appeal to wizards, for some reason. But it is fun.
Well, I’m glad you have friends who can make up the talking deficit.
I modeled a lot after school, and there were a lot of models who were looking to write autobiographies about their experiences in the industry. Most of them didn’t have a gift for words, so I ghost-wrote a few of those autobiographies to help make some extra money. I realized that I enjoyed writing, but I liked it more when I could decide what happens, so I became a fiction writer. Rather boring story, I’m afraid. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , People don’t know how to cook? I’m sure it’s easier with charms, though my mum prefers to do it without them. I could understand not going to muggle tourism spots though. I’ve been to a few, but have had to go on my own. Suppose I was thinking there was going to be some glorious tale of how they came to be. Why mystery though? Did the other models have weird stories that sparked the need to turn to mysteries from their autobiographies?

That’s correct – they know the spells for chopping and such, and then they never learn how to do it themselves. I always find more satisfaction in doing things by hand, where I can. It can be calming to have to focus on doing a task instead of just waving your wand and having it be done. Visiting tourist spots is always better with a group – is it strange to invite you to visit some with me?
The mystery aspect more from my own experience. I have had a lot of mysteries in my life, questions I’m never going to know the answer to. Fabricating questions and getting to answer them gives me a sense of satisfaction I’d miss out on otherwise, since I can’t answer my own questions. cordelia regan smith

Dear @emilia , I agree, doing things by hand I mean. Developing film is really hands on, seeing as technology doesn’t work at school. If you’re asking me to be a tour guide, I’m not exactly sure how well I’d do. Only been to a few different places… That makes sense. It’s kind of funny though, because I try to communicate things through my photographs as well. Guess that’s what art is for?

I could take you on a tour, I mean. I know some pretty cool places in Scotland, from when I was a kid and my parents and aunt and uncle took me on day trips or what have you.
What are you trying to communicate? Kind of a broad question but there must be some theme that happens to underlie everything you do, right? I’ve always been told art imitates life and life imitates art, so it shouldn’t be surprising that we try to say something about our lives while imitating them. cordelia regan smith
