Emmy was interested in the orphanage. Maybe that made her seem strange, but she was interested in the orphanage. She was, after all, an orphan. Maybe. She thought of herself as an orphan, but who knew what was going on with her parents? If only her aunt and uncle had bothered to tell her...But now was not the time to reminisce on her own status. She was here to see about donating some money, and maybe some time, to the orphanage. Rory had mentioned that his friend Freddie was its director, so Emmy had a fairly good excuse to be visiting it beyond just inquiring about volunteering. Emmy walked up to the orphanage with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. What if they didn't want her money or her time? It was a silly, irrational fear. She was wonderful - anyone would be happy to have her! But still, Emmy couldn't help but shake a bit as she knocked on the door.

Rory was volunteering, as he often did in his free time. It wasn't a particularly busy day and at the moment the students were all playing games inside. It was one of Rory's favorite things to witness: little children playing with bigger ones and vice versa. He just thought it was so much fun to see the interactions as they played with toys and actual games. Then he heard a knock on the front door, which was just outside the room he was in. Rory glanced at the students, who were all still playing and walked to the door, opening it. He grinned when he saw who was there. "Emmy, what can I do for you?" he asked with a smile. She was probably here to talk to Freddie, but Rory was definitely going to involve himself. It was Emmy, after all. He couldn't help himself.

Freddie was grateful to have Rory today, since he had some annoying paperwork to do. Well, it was great paperwork, because Thomas had been adopted, but it was still a LOT of paperwork, especially in these times. He had just gotten their background check back from the Ministry, and he was buried in it in his office when he heard the knock on the door. His office was directly next to the door, but it took him a moment to get out from behind his desk and remove the papers from his lap.
He removed his glasses and opened the door to his office, poking his head out to see Rory talking to a pretty redhead in the door way. Oh! Rory knew her name! "Well, who's this then?" he asked, stepping out of his office and crossing to the door, his smile wide.
@emilia @rory (don't know why writing this made me emotional )

Emmy hadn’t been expecting Rory to open the door. She knew that he volunteered here, of course, but she hadn’t expected him to be there right that moment. Well, at least now she wouldn’t feel strange about asking to volunteer there. Emmy was opening her mouth to respond to Rory’s question when a man popped his head out the door and then stepped out of whatever room he had been in. Emmy was absolutely stunned, and her mouth remained open as she stared at him. It was the Doctor! Her imaginary friend was a real person, right here, in this orphanage! The shock was enough to send Emmy reeling, but she needed to be cool about it. Rory probably remembered her obsession with the Doctor, and it was not a time in her life she wanted to repeat. “I – I’m sorry, you just look like someone I used to know.” Emmy lied. She still had two questions left to answer, which meant she needed to push the resemblance to the back of her mind for now. “I was hoping to volunteer here.” She told Rory. And then, to the not-Doctor, Emmy smiled and said, “Emilia Pond, at your service.”

Emmy seemed surprised when Freddie popped his head out of his office. Something about her expression was off, but Rory had no idea what it was. She seemed to shake it off, obviously trying to focus on her reason for coming here. Rory decided to ask her about it later. At the moment, Freddie and Emmy were talking and Rory felt like he should probably be a part of this conversation, instead of just watching it as it happened. He took a step back, widening the door so Em could actually enter the orphanage and he could close it behind her. He grinned when she said that she wanted to volunteer here, introducing herself to Freddie almost immediately after. Rory added, "We've known each other since we were children." Would Freddie realize that this was the girl Rory told him about? He wasn't sure, but thought he'd give it a try. "I told her about this place the other day," Rory added. Why was he talking so much? It wasn't like Freddie needed an explanation right now? But Rory was nervous. He didn't know why, but he was. He closed his mouth and took a small step back, giving the two of them the chance to talk.
