hello there, my name is bernard sterden but you can call me just... bernard. i'm 17 so that makes me a 7th year at Hogwarts, where I reside in ravenclaw house. You could say I'm intelligent, knowledgeable, & witty but I personally think that I am nerdy, impartial, and easily flustered. People say I look a lot like emil andersson, but I don't really see it...

Bernard is fair skinned with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He isn't one for dressing up, or really putting much effort into his appearance in general because he finds it too much work and effort. He's let his hair grow quite long simply due to the fact that he can't be bothered.

Socialphobia - Bernard has an intense and uncontrollable fear of social situations that could cause discomfort or embarrassment to him or other people. Basically he is terrifying of getting embarrassed and seeing embarrassing situations.
overall personality:
Bernard is, simply put, a bit of a nerd. He spends the majority of his time with his nose in a book, inhaling it's contents as fast as possible with absolutely no preference of subject. If he can get his hands on it, you can bet he'll read it, no matter what. He is so enthralled with the world of written words that it consumes almost every aspect of his life and has hindered him greatly in developing other important skills.
He has a strong desire to be right, always. And with the amount of time he spends reading? He is right a good amount of the time.
Social encounters are extremely difficult for him. Since he lacks good social skills he can have a very difficult time relating to and empathizing with others. He prefers to dwell in the world of facts, and not feelings. So, when emotions are involved he can be completely clueless and inept. He is very likely to completely misunderstand a situation and misinterpret what someone might be feeling. To make matters worse, because he is so poorly socialized he has developed an extreme social phobia. Simply put, he is terrified of embarrassment. Situations that he deems 'embarrassing' make him extremely uncomfortable and anxious. It doesn't matter if he is the one on the receiving end, or if he is simply witnessing it from a far. It is an irrational fear that he is fully aware of, but still unable to control or prevent. So, as a rule he tries to avoid all situations that could lead to embarrassment, and when he sees it coming he gets out fast.
Despite poor social skills Bernard has an overwhelmingly strong sense of justice. Right and wrong.... The world is vividly black and white to him, with nothing in between. Not only does he uphold the rule and laws to an absolute T, but he also expects those around him to do likewise. He can be very judgmental because of this as he feels there is absolutely no reason you should ever cross the line. It makes it difficult for him to forgive those who have done a wrong and it is grueling work to regain his trust.
Bernard's life, in many ways, is organized chaos. The way he orders things, where he puts things, it will make little rhyme or reason unless you know him well. He isn't messy though, despite the appearance of it. He also tends to be quite controlling about it as well, but that stems from his need to be right.

history:
Bernard childhood begins with his birth. More specifically how he is the first born of the Sterden triplets. Unfortunately most people don't know them as 'triplets' due to the fact that the youngest, Owen, did not survive childbirth. Their parents already had one daughter already when Bernard and his sister were welcomed into the family. As fate would have it, they were descended to be a trio because another child had been left at the Hospital, abandoned by his mother. The Sterdens adopted the boy, a fact that many people considered insane but neither heeded the advice.
His actual childhood was... well, boring to put it simply. But maybe that was because Bernard in general was a very boring child. They grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, a fact that only seemed to add to Bernard's averageness. He disdained from most physical activities growing up, preferring to spend his days indoors reading and unintentionally driving his sister Olvia crazy. It wasn't that they didn't get along or love each other, simply that she liked things her way, and he liked thing his, and these two ways of doing things unfortunately contradicted the other's.
Despite his average childhood it didn't stay that way. But isn't that what happened when your family moved? Not just to a new town though, to a new country. And then, to top it off his older sister would disappear each fall, only visiting during holidays and then summer. School. That was where his parents told them she was, but nothing much more then that. If he'd been a nosier child he would have pushed the subject but he didn't care much to be honest. At least, not until they found out that his sister was a Witch. In fact all the children had magic. A representative from Hogwarts came to the family to explain to the children just what they were and how they would be attending the same school as their sister that fall.
The first night Bernard was sorted into Ravenclaw. And over the next few years the boy, like his childhood, spent most of the time reading and making few friends. There were, of course, a handful that managed to get close to him but he was by no means popular. He was just prone to fade into the background and be go unnoticed, keeping out of other people's business.
Sixth year was a trying time though. People like him and his siblings, 'muggle borns' were being murdered. In fact several Ravenclaws seemed to be the targets of this murder spree. It was difficult for everyone to absorb and handle, and all the scare did was make Bernard withdraw even more into his own space and hope the culprit was caught before anyone else got hurt.
Now in his final year, the world almost seemed to go back to normal aside from the Tri-Wizard tournament. But Bernard knows better. In all the books he's read he knows that it's only the calm before the storm and soon? Soon things would get much... much worse.
