being confined to a bed was not ripley's idea of fun. granted this was one time she understood why she'd need to but it didn't make it any less boring. her only saving grace was the homework she'd been given and the visitors that trickled in and out at different hours of the day. it had been two days since her accident and according to the healers there was a good chance she'd be back in her dorm the night after, granted her headache stayed gone and her memory stayed intact. the brain was a touchy thing according to one of the healers and while they had magic to heal it it was still delicate. she sighed as she ran a hand through her hair, propped up against some pillows she leaned back into them, one of the books her parents had brought her in one one of their visits propped open against her legs as she turned the page, reading onto the next chapter. it had been nice of her parents to visit, she knew they'd come to see her the week she had been out of it and emile had too wich touched her, they were all busy people, her parents with work and her boyfriend with the tournament but they had made an effort and irina and tania too, they had both been there which meant a lot. she sighed slightly as she took her eyes off the pages of the book and folded her arms over her face slightly, closing her eyes and lifting her head to the ceiling as she took a moment to rest her eyes, feeling them starting to get sick of reading.

The last week or so had been strange, to say the least. Ripley had an accident while flying and was knocked out cold for the better part of a week, and then following that he was immediately shuffled off to get information for the second task of the tournament. Émile had been given the rules and instructions for it, which consisted of befriending a creature called a murtlap. It was an ugly, hairless beast that looked like a cross between a jellyfish and a beaver. From his research since then, he had discovered that the tentacles had healing properties if used correctly, though he was pretty sure that required the beast to be dead, and he supposedly needed to keep it alive for the second task.

With all that out of the way, and the other formalities that immediately followed it, Émile was finally able to find a second to take a breather and visit Ripley in the hospital wing. He had stopped by a few times over the week she was asleep, somewhat hoping he’d be the lucky one to be sitting there when she woke up, but it turned out that he was in a tent trying to befriend the naked beaver creature when that happened. Pushing the doors to the hospital wing open, he made a beeline towards Ripley’s bed. From a distance it looked like she was asleep again, but at least this time he knew she was awake and healthy. Or at least as healthy as someone could be after a fall like that. Quietly taking a seat in the chair next to her bed, he reached across her to take the book on her lap.

the moment she had taken to rest her eyes from reading the book had somehow turned into a nap. she stirred as the weight of the book was shifted from her lap and she grumbled sleepily as she was pulled from the comfortable position she had been in and she tucked her arms more under the blankets and snuggled down into them, not really wanting to be pulled fully from the sleep she'd been in. it was no use though, no amount of time was going to let her fall back to sleep so she opened her eyes, succumbing to the land of the living and when she saw who was sitting beside her bed she was glad she had. she glanced at the book in his hands and then to her lap and realized he must have been the one to move it off her. she shifted slightly, shifting against the pillows as she smiled at him. "well hi there." she said as she brushed her hair off her face. she hadn't seen him in the flesh since her accident. she knew he'd been there of course, she'd found the licorice wand he had left on the table by the bed so she knew. "i hear you have some super secret about the task." she said as she sat up in the bed and shifted to hang her legs over the side of the bed, facing him. she would be allowed out of the hospital wing soon so she didn't see the harm in sitting on the side of the bed for as long as she could keep herself there. the hospital pajamas's she'd been put in weren't the most flattering but they were comfortable enough for her to be able to pull her legs up, crossing them on the edge of the bed. "i got your calling card." she said, meaning the licorice wand as she reached her hand out to rest it on his knee, as she patted the bed with her other one, letting him know he should make the move from the chair to the bed next to her.

Émile had only managed to move the book off of Ripley when she started to stir. It must not have been that deep of a sleep, a nap at most, if a movement as subtle as that could wake her. That and she had been sleeping a lot lately, so it was also no surprise that dozing off could be disturbed so easily. “Hello.” Émile found himself grinning as he watched her move to sit on the edge of the bed. This was the first he’d seen her awake since the accident, so it was relatively amazing that she could move around as much as she was already. It wasn’t so much of the actual injury, but the fact that she had been in a coma for a week that was a cause for worry when it came to moving too fast. The nurses here were relatively decent, which was something he couldn’t say for the rest of the school, aside from the library.

“It won’t be so secret in a few weeks,” he knew he was fine telling people, as long as they didn’t go into the tent where his murtlap was housed. Ripley still needed to rest too, so having her worried about a task that was still a ways off wasn’t really worth it. Once she could move around outside of the hospital wing, he’d tell her what his creature was about, and his ideas on what the task could potentially end up being. “Ah. Glad no one else decided to snack on it while they were here. It almost tempted me a few times as well,” Émile laughed, moving towards the bed to sit next to her. “How’re you feeling?”

“Hello.” she smiled at the sound of his voice. it was a welcome sound in this almost empty hall. she rested her hands on the edge of the bed, just by her knees as she got her bearings as her body got used to sitting up. she'd sat up a little before now but this was the first time she'd sat up properly but there was no way she'd talk to emile laying down. at least not like this anyway. “It won’t be so secret in a few weeks,” she smiled a little and shifted slightly, drawing her legs up under her as she crossed them beneath the other and she leaned her elbow down on her knee, tugging slightly at the gaudy hospital shirt she'd woken up in. it wasn't ideal but it was only for a few more days. she could survive a few more days in here if it meant she'd get back on a broom quicker. "can you tell me the big secret? is it a perk of dating a champion?" she teased him as she rubbed two fingers into her eye, trying to make herself wake up a little more so she could fully focus on the conversation they were having. half of the fun of dating someone like emile was keeping one step ahead of them and as much as she trusted that he would understand if she wasn't her usual self at the moment, she wanted to be. “Ah. Glad no one else decided to snack on it while they were here. It almost tempted me a few times as well,” she laughed and winced a little, trying to hide it behind the hand she had up close to her face but her free hand moved to rest on her side, above the spot where her ribs had been shattered by the bludger. they'd been healed by the nurses but the residual muscle pain was to be expected apparently as it healed itself. bones were easier, according to the healers.

"well i'm glad they didn't and i'm glad you kept your paws off it too .. it was nice to see you'd been here when i woke up." she watched him move from the chair to the bed and she shifted herself, keeping a hand on her side she let her legs slip out from under her and she scooted across carefully, leaning against his shoulder gently and she smiled a little. “How’re you feeling?” there was two options here. tell the truth or skate over it. she didn't want to worry him anymore than she already had, he had the tournament to think of after all. "better now you're here." she settled for, which was the truth. she rested her chin against his shoulder and stayed leaning against him, her legs now curled under her. "distract me?" she said with a sweet smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she glanced up at him.

Émile waited until he was fully situated on the bed with Ripley comfortable next to him before continuing on about his little second task secret. He supposed it wasn’t too bad if he detailed what they had shown him in the tents. Outside help was allowed as long as they didn’t enter the tent and meddle with the creature. “I guess I can tell, as long as you keep quiet,” he motioned with his pointer finger up to his mouth. He wasn’t exactly sure what the plan was, other than getting to know the beast, so that much he could tell her about. “So,” Émile started quietly, “we have to each befriend a creature and protect it in the next task. Haven’t the faintest from what, but the bond between champion and creature is apparently the goal of it.” He shrugged as arched one arm over Ripley’s shoulder and pulled her closer, gently, still unsure of her condition. “Ever heard of a murtlap? That’s mine. He’s a naked rat looking thing with tentacles on his back. Ugly, but smart from what I can tell so far.” Émile had decided to name the creature Napoleon, which would be rather fitting for both his own ego and country. He was sure someone would get a laugh out of that when they announced him at the start of the task. Unlike the other two champions, he didn’t need to take everything as seriously, considering he was in first and figured that his lead would be padded by this next task as well.

He nodded his head as she stated that she was glad nobody had touched the licorice wand. After what had happened with Irina the night of Ripley’s accident, he had been sure that the older Krum would try to sabotage this relationship in some way. Maybe he was wrong. He had been rather brutal when it came to taunting her about Dave, or whatever his name was, and that seemed to only fuel the vitriol that already existed within Irina. Émile knew he had been poking an angry mother bear with a really large stick, and probably only enraged her further. Though he was pretty sure that what Irina said and did had no correlation to anything Ripley did, and meant that while older sister was pissed at him, the younger one wouldn’t. There were more important things to deal with right now anyway, and fighting over it was trivial.

A grin grew on his face as she said that she was better now that he was there. That wasn’t exactly the answer he had wanted, but he definitely needed it. Magic seemed to be able to fix almost everything. Comas were not one of those things, at least not in this case, and the constant sitting and thinking about what could happen over the likelihood that she would be fine had started to weigh on him. But that was gone now that she had woken up. Émile contemplated the idea of a distraction. Her previous answer about being fine now that he was there still didn’t answer the age old question of how she was physically and mentally. The accident wasn’t exactly a little damage here and there. Still…“Are those the doctor’s orders?” Émile found himself asking anyways. He trusted her judgement.

“I guess I can tell, as long as you keep quiet,” it was easy for her to nod and she held her own finger up to her lips. she could keep a secret when she wanted to. though she did like hearing about gossip at times, she'd learned a long time ago, being the daughter of someone famous, to take what was told to her with a grain of salt. everything was false until proven true. "just call me the secret keeper." she said with a smile as she listened to him talk about what the task would entail. “we have to each befriend a creature and protect it in the next task. Haven’t the faintest from what, but the bond between champion and creature is apparently the goal of it.” well that sounded like it would be interesting. she wondered how it would change things though, the first task had been hard enough for the contestants to protect themselves during it. the durmstrang champion had seemed to not do well in that department so she felt a slight pang of worry for what ever creature that school ended up with. she tucked herself against emile's side when he arched his arm over her shoulders. “Ever heard of a murtlap? That’s mine. He’s a naked rat looking thing with tentacles on his back. Ugly, but smart from what I can tell so far.” she nodded as she rested her head against his chest, pressing a little closer to him as she settled, able to hear his heart beating beneath her ear. she smiled slightly and wrapped one of her arms behind his back to secure herself there. "so you two should get along great." she teased him with a soft laugh.

"just kidding. i'm sure he's cute." she'd seen murtlaps before, and didn't think they looked any weirder than some of the other magical creatures. there were some that were just horrible. she had to admit she wasn't a fan of the giant squid. there was something off putting about that large creature that called the black lake it's home. she shuddered slightly as she thought back to the first time she'd crossed that lake, seeing the shadow of the thing gliding about under the boats. it had been creepy. but the murtlap, though the tentacles were a little weird, was a lot cuter. "careful though, i read somewhere they like to take bites out of people's toes." care of magical creatures came in handy for some things. “Are those the doctor’s orders?” she lifted her head from his chest and looked up at him, raising an eyebrow slightly as she shifted under his arm and slid the hand she'd had resting against his back up to his neck and she lifted herself slightly. "yes,doctors orders. would i lie to you?" she said with a small grin as she leaned in to kiss him, curving her hand over the back of his neck as she did.

Émile grinned as Ripley said she’d keep it a secret. Of course she would. It wasn’t like it had to stay a secret though. As long as he didn’t receive help inside the tent from other students or professors, than he was fine with telling people ab out it. The whole point of the task, from what he could gather, was to learn about the creature and then go from there. If she happened to know anything about murtlaps, then it would be even better. All the more reason to spend time with her. Upon completing his description of the murtlap, Ripley laid her head on his stomach, and then had the gall to say that he would get along with the murtlap. “Because I’m smart, yeah?” He chimed, poking her face with his pointer finger. “I’m certainly not naked. Or ugly.” A wonderful ego booster this was; comparing himself to something that was a magical equivalent to a bald beaver that spent too much time bathing in a pool of nuclear waste. He raised an eyebrow when she said that they liked to bite people’s toes. Most of his research had been about habitats and practical uses for the creature. Nothing had shown up about them biting humans though. From what he could tell, they were normally quite docile. “I’ll keep that in mind. You know me, always taking my shoes off and stuff,” he joked. At his mention of doctor’s orders, Ripley leaned back up and hooked her hand around his neck. Would she lie to him? He knew the answer to it, but didn’t have time to respond as she continued the motions upwards, eventually kissing him. “I think you would,” he stated, not pulling too far away from her. “But it looks like you’re better now.”

“Because I’m smart, yeah? I’m certainly not naked. Or ugly.” she smiled and felt his finger against the skin on her face and rolled her eyes slightly, even though he wouldn't be able to see it since her head was currently resting against his chest. "of course." she said, hoping that was a vague enough answer. she knew it wouldn't hurt his ego, he was tough enough to take some teasing which was one of the things she enjoyed about his company, there weren't many people in the school that could tease themselves and then take it when people teased back. it made conversations fun though, to her at least so she was glad she'd found someone like that. “I’ll keep that in mind. You know me, always taking my shoes off and stuff,” she nodded slightly, her head brushing against him as she did and she smiled again slightly. "well you never know. you might get a rock or prickle in your shoe .. or some weird little fire breathing shoe dwelling creature attack you in the next task .." she joked as she lifted her head off his chest and looked up at him. she hoped he didn't think she was kidding when she'd said she felt better with him here.

sitting there with his arm around her and pressed up against his side she felt better than she had since waking up, while it might seem strange she was sure it was just his company that was helping. her lips turned up at the corners while they kissed, she kept her fingers gripped gently on the back of his neck and when he pulled back slightly, she couldn't help the turning down of her mouth, her disappointment obvious. “I think you would, But it looks like you’re better now.” she shrugged one shoulder slightly, knowing that even though she was feeling better she did still have her limits, things still hurt and her head still felt like there was a slight buzzing at the back of it but he was making it easy to forget it. "never. i have no idea what lying is" she said with a soft laugh. "told you i was. like i said, it's all you." she said as she let her hand drop down from the back of his neck and she rested her head against his shoulder. "what are the chances of you sneaking me out of here?" she asked, half joking and half serious. if he agreed or said there was a high chance, she wouldn't even want to go far. just away from these four walls.

Émile let out a small laugh, staring up at the ceiling in the process. A small fire breathing shoe dwelling creature, huh? To be honest, anything was possible in this tournament. The first task had taught him that. He had never expected to fight a manticore in his wildest dreams, and yet it had happened. The same thing could be said about taking care of this naked mole-rat creature. There were some things that could surprise him, and so far the tournament was doing a good job. “A rock in my shoe? I might as well give up at that point,” he laughed again. “Seriously. That would be annoying. Do you think there’s a way to magically seal shoes up?” There probably was. There was a spell for everything as far as he could tell. One of the main differences between Beauxbatons and the few Hogwarts classes that he had found himself sitting in on, was the kind of spells that they were taught. Obviously everyone had the chance to learn them in the end if they took the extra initiative to buy a book and practice, but it was interesting to see what different schools thought was important to teach their students. Hogwarts was dumbed down, in his mind, and the more complicated charms and transfiguration techniques were all but absent. He wouldn’t even start on their defense against the dark arts, or lack of it. They were all decent gardeners though, but the former Headmaster taught that, so it was expected. Émile was sure if he asked around he would find someone that could help him seal his shoes up. Spending any more time in the library wasn’t exactly on his agenda right now.

The thought that she had been lying about her recovery had only briefly crossed his mind. The fact that she felt the need to say something about it had him wondering now. Émile had a feeling that if Ripley ever did lie to him, it would be over something small and not all that important. While there was a chance that she had been cleared by the doctor, Émile doubted it was anything past walking around the hospital wing for a few minutes a day. He had enough spills of his own back in the day, this one being far more severe than any of his, and he was always confined to a bed for a good amount of time after. “I think zero,” he said, trying to be serious for a moment. “Tomorrow when I stop by, I’ll ask the nurse.”

"well you never know, it might be a very sharp one." she said through her laugh and she bit her lip, trying to stop herself before it made her ribs ache anymore than they already did. “Seriously. That would be annoying. Do you think there’s a way to magically seal shoes up?” she shrugged again and thought back onto the charms lesson's she'd learned over the years. she didn't think there was one she'd learned but there was no harm in looking for one. covering all bases? it would also come in handy if he came across water or mud or worse. she didn't know what could be worse but since he'd faced a manticore in the last task anything was possible. "i can do some reading? i mean i'm stuck here for a while .. it'll help me kill time." and then she could feel like she was helping, since she wasn't actually allowed to help with the creature he'd been dealt with.

“I think zero, Tomorrow when I stop by, I’ll ask the nurse.” she pouted a little but didn't push the issue. while there had been a tease in her voice when she'd asked there had been a seriousness to it as well. she didn't like being confined and she hated the fact she couldn't fly at the moment even more but that was her own personal issue, not the issue of the people around her. "i'll hold you to that." she said, shifting the pout into a small smile as she snuggled against his side again and she sighed contentedly. "so, anything else been happening? any drama in the carriage?" she asked, looking up at him as best she could with her head resting against his shoulder.

Émile chuckled slightly about having a sharp rock in his shoe. It was relatively annoying to get one in there. He always had the debate of whether he could tough it through, or would give in and take his shoe off to remove it. Usually the latter won. On a normal day that consisted of casually strolling around, a pebble or two was never going to kill him. If he was working out or attempting to do something that required even a semblance of concentration, then he would have to take the rock out. It was just one of those things. Once his mind was on it, he was unable to think about anything until he removed it. But wasn’t he always like that anyways? Getting his mind set on something meant that he would have to work towards completing it or winning it, if it was a competition. The tournament was like that. “Those sharp ones are the worst.” Émile nodded his head as Ripley said she wouldn’t be leaving for a while, so reading up on it might help. “That’ll give me even more of an excuse to stop by then,” he grinned. “Drop off some books and help you research.” On top of his second task research as well. There was a lot to do for that still.

Drama in the carriage. Oh was there always some form of that. It wasn’t exactly useful to mention the same thing over and over again about the other Beauxbatons students and the way they acted towards him. Their animosity was still glaringly obvious. He was in first place! They could at least lighten up a little. Outside of Beauxbatons there was…that. He knew he had to tell Ripley about it eventually, but didn’t think now was the time. Not while she was still in the hospital wing at least. Émile knew he had a good handle on the situation, and right now her recovery and the second task prep work were more important than a stupid arranged marriage made by two extremely drunk sets of parents. “Nothing particularly interesting,” he lied. “Same old political nonsense amongst the other students. Some things never change.”
