Casey,Hmm your name does sound familiar. Weren’t you a Gryffindor? Did I know you in school? Hah, I’m only kidding, it's good to hear from you I’m doing alright, I was dating a kid from Durmstrang but for...personal reasons he went back to Durmstrang and our relationship ended. It was rough there for most of January, but I am feeling better now. Maybe not ready to take on the world of dating *just* yet but...getting there. Speaking of relationships, did I spot you with a certain royal Ravenclaw at the Yule Ball? I would have come to say hi but I was...distracted by the aforementioned Durmstrang. In all seriousness, Susan seems to be a lovely girl (I’ve had limited interactions with her so I can’t be too much of an inside judge). How is that going?

it's great to hear you're well. with everything that's happened in the world i was almost expecting a bad answer, glad i can breath a little easier to know one of my friends is safe. i think i saw you with him at the yule ball. it's a shame he left, i'm sorry to hear that. i still remember the day masin left, one of the hardest but it was better for her so i can still understand. it does get better and in time, trust me in time it'll be a lot easier to return to the 'dating scene'.
yes i was with a certain ravenclaw. well you should have come over! she left me for a while to talk to lysander. though come to think of it while she did that i was gorging on the fondue tower so probably not my finest moment for you to disturb me in. she's amazing but i won't gush about her. even though i'm sure i could go on all day. actually she's one of the reason's i'm writing to you. we went to a new years eve ball with her family and that was a date she planned, so the next one is on me and i'd like to try and top a royal ball if i can, any suggestions?
also, how's everyone else? it's been ages since i spoke to anyone from your family although i think my father mentioned something about running into your dad in the leaky cauldron not to long ago, i think. don't quote me, i was delirious with fever when he told me.

Casey,Yeah...I ran into James last Hogsmeade weekend actually. I’ve seen him upset before of course, plenty of times - I suppose when you’ve known someone since childhood that happens. But this was….well, it was something else. A lot of us still here are upset over Abby too - I know you were great friends with her as well, and for that I am truly sorry for your loss. It’s not fair that she never got the chance to be an Auror, and that Elaine keeps slipping through the Ministry’s fingers. Do you know how Adeline is doing? I can’t imagine the loss of a twin, what that does to someone the poor girl. On a happier note, I’m glad to hear you’d gush about this girl all the time if you could! Hopefully she is providing something of a pillar for you to lean on. As for topping a Royal Ball, in extravagant terms, you can’t. It’s just not possible. What I recommend is going the complete opposite way. Do something simple yet thoughtful, take what she likes and incorporate it into a creative date. I imagine being royal 24/7 can be exhausting, so to be treated as a regular person I think she’d appreciate. Everyone is well thank you! Nikolai’s still playing Quidditch, Ripley is recovering from a Quidditch accident that thankfully wasn’t so serious, and Tania is hanging in there too. Nothing too huge to report just yet. I’d ask you how Sao is, but with her being one of my best friends, I already know this So instead, how is the real world? Is Mediwizard training all you wished and hoped it would be?

yes, that was the biggest shock of all. i still don't want to believe it's actually true but denial is unhealthy. she should have had the chance to live and it's been taken from her. almost makes me want to join the auror program so i can join the fight. but rash choices never got anyone anywhere and i've shocked myself for writing that because i'm not the deepest thinker in the world. i haven't seen her in a little while, i looked in on her a few times after it happened but not in a little while. i'll check in on her and let you know.
i didn't mean in extravagence. i think it would take everything i had just to make in even slightly like that! i just meant something as special to top it. i don't want to take her on any half thought dates. the first two we had weren't exactly ones to remember, well they are but not for the right reasons anyway. how about tree carving. like they do in old muggle movies. c+s=forever or something cheesy like that.
good to hear. i follow the arrow's in the news but haven't been able to watch a game since i left school. been a bit hectic. well glad she's alright. can't imagine anything would keep her down though. you'd know how she is better than i would. i'm supposed to be catching up with her in a little while and i can't wait to see her. it'll be nice to see she's alright in person. not at all what i thought it would be. but it's just as great. i should be fully trained soon, out in the field and able to work on my own. how's that for a scary thought right?

Casey, Denial is definitely not a healthy thing, I agree with you. I had it for awhile after Daniel (the Durmstrang boy) left, but it was not healthy at all. It's not easy to recognize that your close friend is gone, and much more so to grieve them. If there's anything you need, like baked goods or something, please do let me know.
That does sound cheesy, but adorable at the same time. I think Susan would appreciate the Muggle sentiment behind such gestures (I myself am unfamiliar with them as both my parents are pureblooded wizards and I really only was immersed in HISTORY of the Muggle worlds!) I think that she'll appreciate anything you want to do, especially at this point in time. You might not like it, but Susan will be happy just to spend time and make YOU happy since you are grieving so much. It's just something we women do.
You're not joking of course; it'd take a great deal to keep Ripley away from a broom. She did promise she'd be more careful though when practicing with Bludgers. I think combined with the worry it caused me and the rather large bump to the head she will heed that. Since I didn't get to go home for Christmas this year, I haven't been able to go to any Arrows games which has been unfortunate. Hopefully if the Arrows make it to the finals, we Krums can go to the game!
I had a feeling the real world wasn't all it was cracked up to me - I have been corresponding with a Cursebreaker who is new to the job and she said that the training part only lasts about two weeks. Will you be coming to graduation to see Susan? You'll certainly see Sao then if not before then.
Your Friend, Irina

well you know me, i'm not one to say no to free food. but it's alright. i'll be okay. i'll try and catch up with james and finn in the next few days. that should help a little. well if they're free.
well i'm glad you think it's a good idea. i'm still worried i'll do something wrong and scare her off. after all, i'm not known for my long relationship skills. the longest one i had before susan was masin .. and well we all know how that ended. not that i hold it against her, she did what was right for her and that's the important part but i can't help but worry susan will start to want something more for herself too. stupid right? she's really the only person i really want to see right now. it's hard because she's so far away.
well the yule ball kept a lot of people away from home. it was a nice night though, glad i got to go back for it. they'll make it to the finals. nik is still their seeker right? my mind is blanking on them at the moment. i do follow them, i really do, believe me. well that's good, so that's what your thinking of doing after school? it's not exactly a safe job irina. not to question in a bad way, but are you sure?
i'll be at the graduation. to see susan and to see you of course. plus a few other people i kinda know in your year. okay friends. i'm supposed to be meeting sao in a few days to catch up with her. how's she doing by the way? i can imagine she tells you more than she'd tell me, especially at the moment. do you know if that longbottom kid is looking after her?

Casey, I am no stranger to that feeling, let me assure you. When Dan went back to Germany and Durmstrang, it stung a little. Okay, a lot. But don't let that seedling of doubt get in the way of your happiness with Susan, because she won't thank you for it. I have no idea what the future holds for my romantic prospects, but I know that I can't always hold onto the past (much as I would like to sometimes).
I am quite sure Casey - trust me, I know the risks. It wasn't as though I woke up one moring and said 'today I think I'll set my sights on becoming a Cursebreaker'. It started when my mum took me to the National Portrait Gallery, and kept building up from there. I''ve been corresponding with a Cursebreaker (perhaps you know her, Odette Greyback?) who has been giving me the inside scoop on life in the profession. It's something I can absolutely envision myself doing, and with her reassurance, I know I can still have a family life some day too.
Hah! Jayden is treating Sao quite well if you ask me, but you can ask her yourself when you see her. He set up the most adorable scavenger hunt for her before the Yule Ball, you should have seen the look on her face! I'm surprised you didn't run into them much at the Ball itself, though from what you've told me you were otherwise occupied. I think you'd approve of him, but again, make the judgement yourself. Have you asked Sao to bring him with her to Hogsmeade?
Oh! And yes, Nikolai is still Seeker for the Arrows. For now.
Write Soon, Irina

well you do know that you have some friends that would be able to try and set you up with someone. plenty more fish in the sea? that's what they say isn't it. well they used to anyway. it was said to me when masin left by my grandmother, probably an old muggle saying. i think finn's single right now? kidding. but keep your spirits up. like you said if it was meant to be, it'll happen. if it doesn't, you'll find someone.
i didn't think you did but i'm just making sure. i've lost too many friends irina. i don't want to have to say goodbye to anyone else. i know that sounds selfish but it's the truth. i've heard of her but i don't know her personally, word of mouth sort of thing. i'm sure you'd be great at it. it's great when you find the job that your meant to do. makes it a little easier to cope when your social life goes to bust. not kidding, that was literal. growing up sucks. okay kidding.
oh i will be, don't you worry. no we were both busy at the ball though i did catch up with her for a few seconds before i surprised susan. it's a big brother thing, gotta keep an eye on the guy dating my sister. even if i have known the kid his whole life. i do, he's the lesser of the evils she could have picked. no, i want to spend time with just sao. i'll spend some time with both of them later.
for now?

Casey,Hah! Finn is a lovely human but I get the feeling we're not that compatible, relationship wise at least. That's what I think is keeping me back - it felt perfect with Daniel, and I'm afraid I'll never find that perfection again. I suppose though I'll never move on with that sort of sentiment, which isn't good in the long run. Perhaps I'll meet a dashing Greek boy while treasure hunting in the Acropolis. Save him from a curse? Now listen to me, I'm beginning to spin my owl fairy tale when you're living one! I have to ask, what was a royal ball like? I've been to fancy dinner parties before with my parents, but somehow I doubt they're on anywhere near the same scale as the Windosr New Years Eve ball. I want details - I am a teenaged girl after all!
I know you're just trying to keep your friends safe, and I appreciate that, really I do. It's so horrible that in this day and age people our age have to go to their friends funerals; that should be saved for when we're old and grey. But hey, if I ever do get injured on the job, at least I'll know a Mediwizard who can at least get me some proper treatment? Not a bad position to be in if I do say so myself.
Yeah, for now. Nikolai always played Quidditch because it was 'expected' of him by our parents (moreso my mother). As you're very well aware of, I was a rebel and refused to play for my house team in school - no I have not gone and joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team in my last year here, I ended up winning that arguement. But...I dunno, sometimes I don't know if he's fully happy about his job. I can see the happiness in him when he's with his girlfriend, and there's definitely something missing for him. I just hope he knows he has my support, whatever he chooses.
Do you know anything about this Magical First Aid Seminar being held next week? Will you be here for that?
Your Friend, Irina

it's always worse when it feels perfect. like there's no effort behind anything you do with them. makes it harder to let go. you never know who you'll meet on your travels. though i can't agree that an adonis type would be a good match. unless you want to compete with his mirror. jokes, i'm sure they're not all bad. it was .. different? i mean i can't compare it to anything i've been to but i enjoyed it. the food was amazing and everyone was dressed up to the nines, like this the yule ball but times ten. we didn't spend much time inside though, we spent a lot of it out in the garden, she showed me how to loose an arrow so that was fun. can't say i'll make an archer anytime soon but i hit the target at least.
yes you know a mediwizard. i'll keep my eye out for your name on any jobs that come in. or if there is a call for a healer for a stubborn, dark haired woman giving everyone hell. i'll know it's you.
yeah i'm aware. i listened to you complain about your mother often enough. glad you stuck to your guns though, doing something you don't want to sucks. well hopefully he figures out what he wants to do and works it all out. no point in doing something he hates for the rest of his life.
i don't think so. i heard about it but i haven't been asked to go to anything yet so probably not.

Casey, Thanks Casey, I’m glad you can understand where I’m coming from, and why it’s taking me a little longer than I’d usually like to get over this relationship. I mean, it was only four months, but I’d known him since we were little, so there’s all that history there too. Hey! All Greek men are not Adonis self-absorbed prats Mister, but I could also meet a dashing Egyptian or a Nordic sailor descended from Vikings. You never know who you’re going to meet is certainly right. I’ll try not to raise hell if I ever (Merlin forbid) get injured during my travels, but I’ll be sure to bring your name to the mix so I know I’m being well taken care of. The Cursebreaker I’ve been corresponding with - Odette Greyback, do you know her? She was telling how the older Hagrid sibling got hit with a shrinking curse on a Cursebreaking run. It would have been hilarious to see him as a tiny person since he’s got to be what, over seven feet tall? At least that’s close to how tall Rubeus is and he’s two years older.
I’m glad I stuck to my guns too. It’s not like I don’t like Quidditch or anything like that, but the way I get competitive when playing the sport is a little too much for my liking. It brings out a pretty ugly side of me that I’d like to avoid if possible. And Nikolai doesn’t HATE Quidditch per se, he does love it, but I don’t think he sees himself doing it forever. We still have fun playing one on one or two a side when we get the chance though; friendly competition is the way to go!
Ah, I’ve heard some nurse from Saint Mungos is coming to do it, so I wasn’t sure if you were coming to assist or not. That’s too bad - it sounds really useful!

yes that's true. you could meet mirror obsessed prats in every country you go to. watch out for them, they aren't the kind of people you want to fall for. have fun with them sure. you know i'm kidding of course. jest is hard to accomplish over owls. no, getting injured isn't something i want to happen to you but yeah, name drops go a long way and if i ever need a curse broken i'll send you first. i think so? i know the name odette but i can't say i've heard it paired with greyback so it could be her. could not be, guess we'll have to find out someday. you mean carcer was that small? oh merlin i would have paid to see that. i mean, we were good friends in school so i should owl him and ask about that, wow.
well i'm afraid i can't agree. i quite like the thrill of a competition and i won't lie, winning isn't the worst feeling in the world. though there are some that take it too far and those that don't like loosing, well i can't stand those types of people. loose with dignity or don't play the games. it's that simple.
it'll be really useful for you guys to learn! i did some research into it, found out a little and you guys will like it. i won't give too much away, that way you won't get bored but take my word for it.

Casey, Hah! Do you really have that little faith in my judgment of a man? Casey Finnegan, I am appalled with you. No, I’m only joking of course - I like to think that I pick them well. Well, them has been James for all of five minutes and then Daniel so far, so I guess I don’t have much to make a full judgement of my skills. How is he doing by the way? I saw him in Hogsmeade last week and he was right miserable (which was not that surprising). I told him whatever he needed I’d be happy to help but I’m sure that’s everyones words to him lately. Hopefully he’ll take at least one of us up on it.
I can see where you’re coming from; with my personality I am afraid of being a sore loser. Like I said, I don’t really like the nasty, competitive side playing actual Quidditch brings out in me, I can get rather brutal to say the least. I think that’s what disappointed my mother; I clearly had the talent to play but decided against it (very firmly I might add). She seems to be getting over it though, she was very happy when I entered my name for the Tournament, and I think my dad managed to talk her down once I didn’t get picked.
Oh don’t take the mickey out of him too badly! He must have been mortified, poor Carcer. I can’t imagine what that must have been like. I think he’s lucky though that he has all that giants’ blood in him, I think his curse would have been much worse if he hadn’t.
Come on, no hints? Nothing? You’re no fun!
Irina

well they were both good choices! even if james only did last for five minutes. you could have picked worse, like me. you've seen him since i have. i haven't seen him since abby's funeral. it's been hard, i'm going to try and catch up with him and finn soon though, hopefully.
i can't imagine you being a sore loser irina. a dissapointed loser sure, but i can't see you gloating and taunting the other team if you did win. but to each their own, i couldn't see myself playing professional quidditch and i did play it in school so i totally get it. even though if we'd been on a team together we'd have made a pretty good one, not gonna lie, of that i'm sure.
i have to take the mickey out of him. it's like the bro code! things like that have to be teased. such as i get the green skin and all the spot jokes. it's just what happens. yeah i'm glad it wasn't worse, if had been worse i wouldn't tease him. so great thing he wasn't.
well it will involve .. wait for it.
magic.
