Z shrugged as he listened to her speak, though in his mind’s eye he found himself shaking his head at her. He guessed it was a good thing she was not as skilled in potions then because if she were to act without direction from Elaine and get herself caught, it would be her fault alone. Once again it only brought to light the utter differences between the two of him. He didn’t like to get involved in others unless he had to. He had been successful doing so thus far but it seemed he would now have to get involved at the request of Elaine, now that she had given him his own task to complete. It was then that she asked if he had heard anything else. Directly after his meeting with Elaine, he had contemplated looking for Theodosia and telling her about it, just because of how eager and excited he had been but he decided just to tell her the next time he saw her. He’d figured that would have been soon but it seemed they both had been just busy enough not to have time to talk until now. Now that he knew that she’d had a mission and had not divulged it to him until now, he didn’t feel especially inclined to share it until he had also completed his. He would rather have it that way anyway. He shrugged then. ”Not particularly. I’m more curious about what comes next. And how that potion will play a part in it. Have you?" he’d take every bit of information he could get, especially if it would help him with his mission. Especially if it would allow him to get the upper hand.

Zaire didn’t have anything else to say to her, which meant that he was done being useful to Theodosia. She felt like he was holding something back, but the Slytherin was beginning to think that was just her own emotional projection, since she had failed to mention the Hufflepuff girl she had been tossing around. Zaire made some throwaway comment about what happened next, and Theodosia made a soft scoffing noise. “It’s not worth me thinking about the future, darling.” Theo said flippantly. It was Elaine’s job to think of the plans for the future. Even though Theodosia wished she could take more initiative in that respect, she realized that Elaine was much better at seeing three steps ahead. She was the master, and Theodosia was just her apprentice – even if Elaine wasn’t willing to admit that just yet. If she were to do anything to ruin the Dark Lady’s plans, then Theo would feel her wrath. Even thinking of an alternative path could be seen as treason if someone misconstrued her as saying that her plan was better than Elaine’s, so Theo thought it was better just to keep her nose out of things when she wasn’t being ordered, or when she was sure that Elaine wouldn’t want anything to do with it – like the Hufflepuff, Theo reminded herself. What would the soon-to-be leader of the Wizarding World want with one little badger? Nothing, Theo told herself. “Goodbye, Zai.” Theodosia said abruptly, disappearing back into the depths of the Slytherin common room with nary another word. If he was just going to speculate, she wanted no part of it, and it was better to leave sooner rather than later.
