@cecelia Grey was getting the feeling that maybe this hadn’t been a good idea. The silence that had occupied their conversation while he was thinking had been eerily quiet. Cecelia was giving him the stage, and he had taken that chance. Only to botch it, in his opinion. All day he had been jumping around the one thing that he knew he had to ask, and here he was dancing around it once again. The only thing he could think was that asking someone what they were doing on the weekend could refer to going on a date, and apparently that was what his mouth had decided for him. The part where he realized that everyone would be going to Hogsmeade this weekend because of Valentine’s Day didn’t cross his mind until much later, after he had sat on it for a little longer. At this point, he had to stop caring about what other people thought and do something for himself for once. Cecelia looked like she was confused, and he knew that was his fault. Who even asked questions like that without any context? He did, for one, and usually when conducting interviews for the paper. But that line of questioning should be carried over to something like this. That was like bringing work back home.
She had removed her hand from his shoulder. Grey had forgotten it was there, too intent trying to figure out what she was thinking through her facial reactions. To be honest, he was pretty bad at that. He could tell if someone was blatantly lying or making something up, simply because interview after interview made that possible, but actually figuring out a person’s emotions if they weren’t obvious was difficult. To him, Cecelia dropping her arm to her side felt like she knew what he was getting at, and was already a sign that he had lost. Strange to think of this as winning or losing, but in a way it was. Most of it was a battle against himself to just ask her out. He expected an answer that sounded like she understood what he was getting at. Instead she wanted him to clarify. Grey blinked a few times. He could clarify, if that helped at all. “I was wondering if you wanted to go with me to Hogsmeade this weekend…” he trailed off, pausing for a second. This part was the important part. He needed to get it right. “On a date. With me.” Why the hell did he add the extra 'with me' part. Obviously it was with him. There was no one else around other than the two of them. He'd kick himself over that later.

Cecelia wasn’t sure if she had ever been so shocked by a question that someone had asked her before. She replayed Grey’s words in her head, wanting to be absolutely sure that she had heard him correctly, and that he wanted to take her on a date to Hogsmeade. It took all of Cecelia’s willpower to keep her from blurting out a stupid question, asking Grey if he was sure about what he was doing. If he still had the girl – hold on a second, was she the girl that he had a crush on? Cecelia felt a rush of something that felt a bit like excitement, but more potent. She felt positive giddy for a moment. Grey Slater… liked her? And she liked him! Cecelia had entertained the idea in theory but she’d never imagined that something like this would be possible. Crushes for her had been just that – crushes. Nothing had come of them. But this was different, because the person she liked liked her back, and the more she thought about it, the more Cecelia felt like she was about to explode with excitement. It took her an embarrassing amount of time to realize that she hadn’t said anything to Grey’s question, though her smiling like a dope probably was enough to clue him in that she wasn’t going to say no to him. “I… would like that.” Cecelia said. The word felt horribly anticlimactic compared to the hurricane that was going on inside of her, but Cecelia was more concerned with actually getting the word out. “Do you still want to get breakfast?” Cece asked, feeling rather stupid for the question but unsure if the offer and subsequent acceptance of a date had changed things at all. If anything was certain, it was that she and Grey weren’t going to be a typical couple – if they did become a couple at all, since this was really only one date, and not a confession of undying love or anything. Cecelia was hoping that “not a typical couple” meant that they were still allowed to do things together as friends, though, like get breakfast on Valentine’s Day without it being awkward.

@cecelia There wasn’t an immediate verbal response, and the growing seconds led Grey to wonder if maybe asking her on a date was a mistake. He had never done this sort of thing before, so coming out of it with a perfect record was a fifty percent chance. Though he felt like it was less than that. The lack of a response from Cecelia only made him more nervous the longer it went on. The first thing that would happen when she told him no was that things were going to become really awkward for both of them. There was no way that wouldn’t happen. Most of their friendship so far had been talking about their thoughts and feelings on things. He had seen other people go through this kind of thing before, and it all came to a halt once one was turned down by the other. While he didn’t necessarily need deep, introspective conversations on the regular, he wouldn’t have asked her about this if he hated it. He knew he’d miss it. Except she didn’t turn him down. Grey hadn’t even realized that she had been smiling at him throughout the silence because he had been so worried about what he would do after the fact. She said that she would like that…that was a yes right? He kept himself from asking his thoughts though, because the last response had been antagonizing enough. Having her think over it again could produce the opposite result. Last thing he needed was Cecelia second guessing it all. “Alright. Cool.” Grey nodded his head. He knew that sounded lame, but he had already made it this far. The real test would be a few days from now, on the actual date. There wasn’t a lot of time to think it over, but he could surely do better than he was right now. He was still nodding his head a little, like an idiot, when Cecelia asked if he still wanted to get breakfast. That had almost become an afterthought in the last few minutes. “Sure. Almost forgot about that,” he laughed awkwardly. At least he could enjoy breakfast now, instead of worrying about how to ask her out. So that was that. [THE END. FINALLY]
