With a gasp, Kathryn woke and sat straight up in her bed, her breaths coming quick and labored, cold sweat on her forehead. She had had one of her nightmares again, the one of the alleyway where she had been attacked. She couldn’t see the faces of her attackers; in the dream they wore skeleton masks which made it even more terrifying, if that was even possible. She always woke as the primary man hit her over the head; as in life she had been unconscious during what had happened to her. With a soft whine, her dog Arrow scooted up from the foot of her bed and licked her palm, a gentle reminder that he was there to protect her. Kat smiled and scratched him behind his ears gently. She had always been a lover of animals, and after her attack her aunt had given her Arrow as an emotional support dog. He had done wonders for her daily life, but he still couldn’t drive away the nightmares completely. Seeing that it was about five thirty in the morning, Kat stretched and recognized with a sigh she wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep. She got out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen to fix herself a cup of tea, Arrow trailing behind her dutifully. As she put the kettle on, she heard a creaking of her front door opening and she looked up sharply. “Logan?” she called, hoping it was him and not an intruder. Logan had the key to her flat and he knew to let himself in; he was the only one she allowed to do that.

Logan was annoyed. He hated working nights and was often highly irritated when he was called in. Tonight had been packed full of things. First, a young muggleborn wizard-to-be had caused problems, then drunk wizards were messing around ... actually quite a few of those. Things happened so frequently that by the time Logan was finished it everything, it was early in the morning. Normally he woke up at six, but now it was five-thirty. He was exhausted, but a moment before he apparated to his own apartment, he changed his mind.
When he arrived, he was directly outside of Kat's apartment. He pulled out his key and stepped in quietly, hoping that she was still asleep. He knew that she didn't often sleep well, but hopefully tonight was one of the few nights. He closed the door and heard her call his name nervously. "It's me, Kat. Don't worry," he called back, locking the door and then moving down the hallway toward the kitchen, where he thought he heard her. "What are you doing up at this horrid hour, love?" He asked, though he already knew. He crossed the room and kissed her forehead gently, moving to wrap his arms around her. He hated it when he had no choice but to leave her alone.

Kat breathed a sigh of relief when Logan came into the kitchen, calling out that it was him while he did so. She knew it had to have been him, well she had been ninety nine percent sure at least. Still, she felt her pulse finally begin to slow down as he held her. She buried her face into his shirt and breathed him in, beginning to feel calm and safe. “I had another nightmare,” she said softly, her voice muffled. She tilted her head up so she could look at him, eyes wide. “I can’t remember much of it now, but when I woke I couldn’t breathe and my pulse was racing, so I think it was about...that again,” she said, the corners of her mouth downturning in a slight frown. She closed her eyes for a moment, shuddered then shook her head. “But you’re here now and it’s making me feel better,” she reassured him, opening her eyes and smiling at him. Giving him a squeeze, Kat reluctantly released him and bent down to fetch Arrow’s empty food bowl. Now that she was awake with no intention of heading back to bed, best to get a start on the day. She crossed over to her sink and rinsed out his bowl, the labrador following her obediently, alert to every movement she made. “Did you just get off of work?” she asked Logan, shutting off the water and reaching for a towel to dry it off. She looked at him worriedly. “I can make us breakfast if you want?” she added, offering a small smile. Cooking was something that calmed Kat down, and she loved breakfast foods in general. Cooking would get her anxiety down so she could feel comfortable heading into work later.

She'd obviously had a bad night and Logan held her tightly while he could. She started talking about her nightmare and he rubbed her back gently, looking down into her eyes when she looked up. "You don't need to talk about it, you know that," he told her, still rubbing her back, hoping she wasn't still overly worried about the nightmare. "I'm sorry I wasn't here, darling," he added softly, apologetically. He hated it when she had nightmares on her own. It made him feel guilty and helpless, because there wasn't anything he could do to take them away. He kissed the top of her head lightly. "I'm glad you feel a little better."
She moved to feed her dog and Logan watched, moving to the table to sit down. He really was exhausted, which was why he'd hoped she would still be asleep. She was clearly ready to start the day, and he was not. "Yeah, it was a long night," he told her, pasting a smile on his face. He didn't want to make her worry about him, but he wasn't going to lie either. At her next question his smile became more real. "I love it when you make me breakfast, you know that," he confirmed with a nod. Maybe that would help him be less tired, eating.

Kat gave him one extra tight squeeze before letting go. She knew Logan held onto a lot of guilt over what happened to her; they had been on their first real date the night she had been attacked. It ate him up as much as her that her attackers had never been brought to justice, and Kat's therapist kept telling her that there was a real possibility that they wouldn't be caught, since she could not remember their faces and she had very little memory of that night. Thankfully, nothing physical had resulted of the night; only the deep emotional scars she carried with her wherever she went. Logan stood by her side throughout it all, steadfast and caring, which only made Kat love him even more.
“I'll make crepes,” she decided, grinning as she set about her tiny kitchen to get the ingredients together. She loved the French confection, and even though they weren't exactly the best breakfast food in the world, she thought they both could use a little treat. She paused though, looking at her boyfriends tired face and walked back over to him. She laced her fingers around his neck and kissed him deeply, glad that she had not turned the stovetop yet. When she finally broke away, she smiled. “I'm glad you're here, even if you are dead on your feet,” she said softly.

She let go of him, declaring that she was going to make crepes and Logan smiled as she started moving around in the kitchen. "That sounds great," he answered, wanting to make sure she knew he agreed with her idea. He closed his eyes a little and could feel himself drifting into a sort of exhausted rest while he was still sitting up. Then he felt her touching his neck and she kissed him. Logan kissed her back long and hard, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her so she was sitting on his lap. This was one way to keep him awake. When they pulled apart, she said she was glad he was here, even though he was so tired. "Me too," he muttered, staring into her eyes a moment. "Sorry about the dead on my feet bit," he said with a small smirk. "I'll work on that. Do you work today?" he asked curiously.

Kat couldn't help but squeal a little bit as he lifted her off her feet onto his lap. "Careful now Mr. Hartridge, or I'll have to abandon all thoughts of breakfast," she told him cheekily. She kissed him again quickly, then hopped up after another moment. "I'll do one sweet and one savory, so we can just share both of them," she said out loud, half to herself as she busied herself with her wand, summoning the ingredients from the cabinets for their crepes. Ham and swiss for savory, nutella, whipped cream and strawberries for the sweet. Arrow sat dutifully by her side, obviously holding his whining in for cheese. But because he was behaving so well, Kat tossed him a cube of the Swiss cheese, which he ate happily. "Arrow loves his cheese," she said, chuckling a little.
She closed her eyes for a moment when Logan asked if she had work today and nodded. "Half day, I stayed late yesterday to finish up a report on a gryphon attack. Everyone is fine, including the gryphon but of course the idiot who decided to try and feed him wants the poor thing put down." Kat shook her head, setting her knives to chopping up the bits of ham and cheese into tiny pieces before folding them into the thin crepe. "People don't ever seem to see animals, especially not magical beasts as fellow living things," she added. "What about you - do you have to be in early today?" she asked him, curious if his boss would make him go in after sucha late night.

Logan winked at her as she pulled away. "How do you know that wasn't my plan," he teased her, only half kidding. He could definitely eat, but that wasn't too high on his list of things to do at the moment. Sleep, however, was high on the list, even though he knew it wouldn't happen with her being up and about. However, their interlude had woken him up slightly so he watched Kat as she moved around the kitchen comfortably. "Sounds good," he commented when she mentioned making both a sweet and a savory crepe. He chuckled when she tossed a cube of cheese at her dog. That thing was so spoiled. Then again, considering all it did for her, he had no problem with that.
She began to explain what she'd be doing at work today and Logan listened with interest. While he would never consider working with magical creatures high on his priority list, listening to her talk about it was fascinating to him. "So do you think the gryphon will be allowed to live, or what normally happens with this sort of thing?" He knew for a fact that Kat would be working furiously to protect the gryphon, but he wanted to prepare himself for what would most likely happen so he could slowly try and prepare her for it as well.
He shook his head when she asked what he had. "I have the day off," he answered. It was just as well. In this state, he wouldn't have been good for anything. After she went to work, he would likely spend the majority of the day on either his couch or his bed. Either way, he was going to sleep today, sometime.

Kat giggled and blushed a little at Logan’s comment. “Oh shush you,” she said with a small smile. It felt comforting, having Logan here in her kitchen, even though it was five o’clock in the morning. Then again, Kat loved every moment she was with him, as he knew how to make her feel safe again. She sometimes would even forget all the problems causing her anxiety, until he left of course. That was what Arrow was for though, and she wouldn’t trade her pup for anything. Sure, she knew Logan thought she spoiled Arrow with the human food, but Arrow had stopped two panic attacks this week alone due to his training; rewards were necessary! She folded the crepes in half and gently lifted them onto the plates she had set out in front of them. Waving her wand, the flame under the cooktop went out. “I hope they taste as good as they look,” she said, bringing them over to the tiny kitchen table and sitting across from him. She cut off a piece of the sweet crepe and blew gently on it to cool it down, then popped it into her mouth. “Mmm,” she sighed happily. Arrow sat patiently by their feet, waiting for a scrap to fall down but Kat shook her head. “No Arrow, chocolate is bad for dogs, go lay down,” she instructed, and Arrow obeyed; trotting over to his bed in the adjacent sitting room and flopping down.
“That’s good they’re not making you come in today, otherwise I’d have a few choice words to describe your boss,” Kat said, smirking a little as she spoke. She knew that she’d never actually confront his boss if she felt he was being overworked, as that would mean interacting in a potentially negative situation, which caused Kat’s anxiety to rise rapidly. “Perhaps I should call out sick,” she suggested, raising a brow before chuckling. She couldn’t of course; nobody else in her department quite shared her passion for magical creature rights, and the gryphons case simply could not be ignored even for a single day. “You are welcome to stay here if you need to; it’d be nice to come home to you,” she added, giving him a small smile.

Logan couldn't help but give a small chuckle when Kat said that she hoped her food would taste as good as it looked. "It always does," he complimented her, actually excited to try it. He couldn't remember when he'd eaten last ... those long shifts always ended up being busier than he wanted, which meant that Logan often didn't have time to eat during them. So Kat making him breakfast was a good thing, despite the fact that he simply wanted to sleep. He cut a piece of the savory crepe and took a bite, smiling when she told Arrow to leave the room. "It tastes delicious, Kat," he told her with a smile before taking more.
He smiled, but didn't say anything when Kat said that if he had to work she'd have something to say to his boss. He wasn't going to point it out because she knew as well as he did that there was no way Kat would be confronting his boss about his schedule. Even if she wanted to, she wouldn't. She mentioned calling in sick and Logan's mouth opened, turning into a smile before he heard her laugh. Blast. That meant that she wasn't planning on it. That gryphon. It was all because of that gryphon. "I very well may stay here," he answered when she offered her place to him. "If I did ... would you try to come home early?" It kind of defeated the purpose of her going to work so he could sleep, but Logan didn't care. He wanted to spend some time with Kat.

Kat was quite happy the crepes had turned out so well, and was even happier that Logan enjoyed them. They ate in a comfortable silence, with just the sounds of chewing and swallowing breaking it. Arrow sat patiently by their side, likely hoping for a scrap of ham and cheese from the crepe. As they finished, Kat relented and tossed one last piece of the savory crepe to her dog, who ate it eagerly. “I spoil you,” she admitted, scratching him behind the ears. Arrow simply wagged his tail in response and Kat laughed. “I know, you think I spoil him too,” she said to Logan, looking up at him and smiling. The smile widened as he suggested trying to get home early. “If all goes well with the gryphon, I can definitely arrange to be home early. But I get to be little spoon,” she told him, half teasing. She knew when she came home she’d likely find Logan sprawled out in the middle of her bed, maybe snoring softly. She wouldn’t mind though, if anything that would make him seem more attractive to Kat. Sometimes, she’d look at her boyfriend and wonder how she got so incredibly lucky to have someone as gorgeous as Logan be so steadfastly supportive through everything she had been through, and still stuck around despite her anxiety attacks.
“Right, well I need to start my morning yoga routine,” Kat declared, waving her wand and watching as the dishes flew from the table to the sink. She jumped slightly as they clattered into the sink, but took a breath and swished her wand again, setting the sponge and dish soap up to wash the dishes for her. Yoga had become part of a regular morning routine for Kat since the attacks; it helped get her focused and calm for the rest of the day. She tried to do it daily, but especially on mornings when she woke up from nightmares. “Do you want to join me?” she asked, holding out her hand invitingly to Logan.

Logan smiled as he watched Kat interact with her dog, "spoiling him" in her own words. He loved the way the dog could make her smile and lift her spirits, and was definitely grateful for the comfort it gave her when he wasn't around. When she looked up, saying that she knew Logan agreed that she spoiled him, he chuckled. "Of course you spoil him, but I think he deserves it for everything he does." There was no denying that. In fact, Logan did his own part in spoiling the dog, he just wasn't as obvious about it and tried to keep it on the down-low. He smirked when she explained what would get her home early. "Well then, I'll just wish you good luck with your gryphon case," he replied firmly, rolling his eyes when she teased him. She knew she'd probably find him asleep on the bed. He couldn't help it, especially since she was keeping him up now. Not that he minded.
He leaned back in his chair when Kat said that she needed to do yoga and proceeded to clean the dishes with a swipe of her wand. He smiled, watching her fondly, though he didn't miss the fact that she jumped when the dishes landed in the sink. He wished he knew something that could help her more and his thoughts flew through ideas that he'd considered long ago, but he knew couldn't help. An answer had to be out there somewhere. He came back to focus when he saw a hand in front of him. He looked up to Kat, not really knowing what she said, but assuming she invited him to join her. He took her hand and smiled. "Alright, but you know I'm no good at this," he warned. Yes, she was aware of that. This definitely wasn't the first time she invited him to join her.

Kat was glad Logan had decided to come with her to practice yoga upstairs; she knew he was right when he said he wasn’t all that good at it, but his presence did more to calm her down than a downward facing dog position ever could. So into the small spare room that Kat had created a calming space to practice in. For fifteen minutes, she breathed, changing yoga positions in sync with her breaths, allowing her always fast-beating heart to slow. When they were done, Kat leaned over to give Logan a kiss. “I’ll be back after work, though I expect you’ll still be sleeping,” she said with a small giggle. Another quick kiss and Kat stood up to be on her way to the Ministry.
Just a few hours later, Kat returned, Arrow by her side as she tried to regain control of her breath. It had been a bad idea to go into work that day; the Spirits division was hosting some of their Italian counterparts and they had been so loud and pushy and simply everywhere. The labrador had noticed when Kat’s pulse began to rise, and had laid his head in her lap as he was trained to calm her down. She knew though that it was too much for her to handle, and one look at her boss gave her permission to head home early. She poured out some food for Arrow with shaking hands, spilling some kibble onto the floor. Arrow diligently ate those first, so that she would not have to clean them up later. She scratched at his ear before hurrying upstairs to her bedroom where she hoped Logan still was; asleep or not she needed to be with him.

The yoga was fine, but the fifteen minutes seemed to take at least two hours to Logan. However, it was worth it. Just one look at Kat when they began told him that she needed him there and for that reason he'd push through the exhaustion. After all, it was only fifteen minutes. He watched hey add she went through the poses, trying to copy them as best he could. Oh well. He wasn't trying to impress anyone.
Then she had to go to work and the second she left, he was up the stairs and collapsing on the bed. He didn't even have time to take off his shoes before he was out. Logan's sleep for the next few hours was deep. When Kat came back, he didn't stir. He was still sprawled out on the bed, deaf to the world.

Kat opened the door and breathed a sigh of relief; Logan was there, albeit rather sprawled out on her bed. For a moment she didn’t even want to disturb him he looked so peaceful. Kat felt her heart rate lower a little bit, and then her mind began replaying what had happened at work. Sighing a little, she removed her shoes and crawled into the bed; Arrow padded around to her side and lay down on the floor, alert for any sign she may need him. She curled herself next to Logans’ body and draped one of his arms around her shoulders. She leaned her head against his chest and closed her eyes. “I had another panic attack at work today,” she said softly. She hated feeling this way; weak and unable to complete a day at work because there were too many voices, too many personalities fluttering around. Old Kat used to thrive on that; crowds of protesters were her bread and butter, and one could find her right in the thick of it all. Now she was reduced to this. Her therapist promised her one day she’d feel comfortable around crowds again, but Kat was impatient on waiting for the day to come. All she wanted was to feel normal again.
