Theodosia just raised her eyebrows when the other girl said that she couldn’t answer Theo’s question about the path she ought to take. Well, that was a shame. The Slytherin had to suppress a chuckle when the Hufflepuff said that she knew that Theodosia wanted her. That was the truth, but the Hufflepuff probably had overblown ideas of how Theo wanted her, or why. This was just a game to Theodosia, and she only won if she got the Hufflepuff to want her back… so allowing the other girl to think that she was interested in a way that didn’t imply manipulation or evilness or whatever values the Hufflepuff opposed. She didn’t say anything, just let the Hufflepuff preach. Theodosia just blinked up at the other girl when she said that Theodosia was attracted to women. Hadn’t that been one of the first things the Slytherin had said? She generally wasn’t the nicest of people, but Theo couldn’t recall a time where she had outright lied to the Hufflepuff in front of her. As for things not changing… well, they would eventually. Of that, Theo was certain.
At first, the Hufflepuff only said what the Slytherin had already established – that this was a bad idea (though the other girl had added in ‘very’, as if somehow that made it worse). But she wasn’t done speaking yet. Leave. The word rang in her ears for a half of a second, but Theodosia couldn’t show that it felt like a punch to the gut. This was still just one grand game to her, and however bad it felt for her to be told that she could no longer play her game, the feeling was just going to be transient. Unlike the Hufflepuff girl, she wasn’t going to have to spend her time wondering if she made the wrong decision, because she was just following orders. Theodosia was getting better at that thanks to her relationship with Elaine, so even though she didn’t necessarily like the fact that she was being ordered away… She was going to do as the Hufflepuff said. “You know where I’ll be.” Theodosia said simply. She wasn’t going to imply that the other girl would want to find her outright, because she was sure that would just be met with indignation or righteous anger, but Theo wasn’t going to let this be the end… and she was fairly certain that the other girl didn’t want it to be, either. There had been too many moments of silence, too much hanging in the air when Theodosia had gotten closer. And the other girl had also had to close her eyes in order to say that she said – if she had really been sure, then why hadn’t she been able to meet Theo’s gaze? All of those thoughts streamed through Theo’s head in the fraction of a second she had before she turned away. Theodosia didn’t look away as she walked out of the locker room – she had been making a point never to look back at the other girl. Theodosia couldn’t afford to have regrets about this. It was nothing more than a chase, and a predator never looked back at its prey.
